Oh god, Order of the Stick is the worst.

I'm gonna catch some shit for that.

I guess while I'm catching shit for that I should get it all over with at once and say that George RR Martin is one of the worst writers I've ever had the displeasure of reading, and Christopher Nolan's movies are pretty bad, and um... what else is held sacred here...

PBF ftw.

Part One.  As in, there is more to follow... so there's no punchline yet, just setup.  Of course it doesn't make sense.

I think we already covered that in, oh, the first reply to the OP  Tongue

And then everyone proceeded to ignore it.

I like you.  Steel Pole... that's a band not enough people knew about.
Yeah, that was a band I never expected to see mentioned... anywhere.

I picked up Tulip on cassette long long ago. Not sure if it was because it was on Boner Records (I like the Melvins) or just because of the name and the song titles. Always liked them since then even if I took forever in getting more of their stuff. I did get to see them live once at a local club in the early 90s.

Darren Morey (Steel Pole Bathtub's drummer) has a brother named Todd Morey who sang in a Portland band called Atomic 61 that put out some really fantastic albums in the early/mid 90s... they played their final show right here in Laramie in... hrm.. 97?  Not really like Steel Pole, but an interesting connection to a kickass band... look for the album 'Purity of Essence'.

I agree with the suggestion of The Who's Next... if you don't like that, you don't like the Who.

I also agree that Quadrophenia is badass... it's just not as accessible to the uninitiated as Next.

My favorites (in order of favoritenessishness)

Rainbow 6 Vegas
NHL 07/08
GTAIV
Battlestations: Midway
GRAW2
PGR3
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2
Guitar Hero II
Ace Combat 6
GRAW

I remember your enjoyment of the first PC GRAW... you definitely want to check out R6V and GRAW2... and if you are going to do that, you might as well check out GRAW and R6V2.

If you haven't played COD4, you could give it a rental on 360... or buy it on PC since it's better there.

Yeah, if my wife and kid listened to stuff like that I'd keep it separate too... like in a different house... with their new daddy who loves them unconditionally.

You'll note I've added a line for testing; your intensity isn't locked in so if you fail to stay in your higher category you simply continue on a lower track. At the end of each week you are to test again (check week1's description at the bottom). So your growth isn't limited by the curve of the program.

I've filled in 2 of 6 weeks for all three intensity levels; if people find this form more useful I'll update the remaining weeks and include info for the three tiers.

Cool... but... It seems backwards to me with goal/accomplished instead of accomplished/goal...

Exhaustion Test 4:
sixone--/----/----/----/----/--
two--/----/----/----/----/--
three--/----/----/----/----/--

6/24 - Day 1. Pretty good.  Managed 15 at the end.
6/26 - Day 2. Harder. Managed 13 in the final set.
6/28 - Day 3. Getting easier... managed 22 in the final set.

6/30 - Day 4. Between this and baseball I've developed a seriously sore shoulder, and it doesn't seem to be the muscles, but the joint. Uh oh.

7/9 - Day 5. The small time off made a big difference... hitting week 2 again and feeling much better.

7/13 - exhaustion test two... 30... I didn't really exhaust myself though... I was worried about being screwed for week 3.
7/14 - Week 3, Day 1. Brutal.
7/16 - Day 2. Very difficult.  But I think I'll clear the week.  I can't go past the minimum on the max out set this week, as I have in the past...
7/18 - Week 3, Day 3... I actually did my new personal maximum at the end of this massive set... I'm stoked on myself.

7/21 - Week 4, Day 1.  For some reason, the hardest day so far, even though W3D3 was more pushups... I think because I got tons of exercise this weekend, not much sleep, and I'm just really tired.  Ouch.
7/23 - W4D2.  Did a bit better... went over the minimum on the last set by 5.  Still a rough week for some reason, even though it doesn't seem like a huge step from week 3... hrm.
7/26 - W4D3. Ugh. I matched what I did for week 3, day 3... only it was more difficult this time.  I think it's probably just fatigue from a show last night and lots of loading and unloading of heavy gear, enormous energy expenditure, and getting 5 hours of sleep.  I'm a day off of the MWF schedule now because of the show yesterday, and am supposed to do an exhaustion test tomorrow... when I have a baseball game... ugh.

7/28 - 4 Week Exhaustion: 55 whoo!

7/30 - W5D1. Holy shit that was rough.  I'm super proud of myself for actually completing it.  I didn't think I would be able to.

I was recently comparing stuff because I've been wanting to get back into shooting... I was looking more at .40 SW stuff, but they generally have the same designs chambered for the big 3 (9mm, .40, .45). The HK USP was what I was originally looking at, but as I did more research the Sig P22x stuff seemed like it might be a little better, or at least on the level depending on what you like.  Are you going to a try before you buy place?  I don't know what you want to spend... they are both kind of pricey, but maybe you get a discount?  That Sig P220 Combat model looks like the perfect fashion accessory for a Marine.  Those S&W Sigma series pistols seem decent for what looks to be considerably less money.

Curious to hear what you get and what you think of it.

I'd be in if I could... the last time I was doing regular pushups I discovered that I have bone cysts in my left wrist, so if I do them regularly I eventually end up in a brace for weeks at a time and unable to do shit.  I was up to about 50 when I figured that out.

Do I get a handicap if I try this on my knuckles?

Yeah, I kind of agree that a lot of games are too long... I get bored... I also think that while for a while it seemed like the really good shooter/action titles were getting super short, they've kind of hit a nice middle ground lately, where it's not so short as to be over in one sitting (for me, anyway), but not so long that it just feels repetitive and dragged out for the sake of falsely extending the length of the game...  COD4, R6 Vegas, R6 Vegas 2, Crysis... longer than stuff like Max Payne a few years ago...

I'm also much more likely to go back and re-play a really well paced, reasonable length game like COD4 than I am to finish a game like GTA4... though I'll probably eventually finish that particular one...

I'd pad that box on the left... that was the one I was originally talking about.

Think about using bolded font for the 'titles' of the sections in there (e.g. .Welcome to the...., and 'Tips').

I would suggest making the content section of the site a fixed width (say, to display well on a 1024w screen), then work with what you have in that width to get it just how you want it instead of letting it be dynamic and messing up your formatting.
3434  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Talk me out of getting a Zune? on: June 17, 2008, 04:17:34 PM
The 30GB is the Zune 1.0 or some crap, and the 80GB is the 2.0... or some crap... the first model, and the newer model.

The 30GBs (which can at times be found for dirt cheap) will upgrade to the 2.x software, so you get the same features.

3435  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How the hell do you promote a website? on: June 17, 2008, 04:15:17 PM
That's better... still need some padding on that leftmost box, and padding around the main light blue box so that your search controls and buttons are not sticking to the side of it.

You are on the path... At this point I would look at getting some nicer looking button graphics (also some *consistent* button graphics in terms of vertical alignment), and a less jaggy rating graphic.  Maybe make your banner graphic representative of what the site is about - have a rock band screenshot or something with the name of the site over it, and even better, an accompanying blurb that says exactly what people are looking at... and remove 'beta'... that's like saying 'under construction', when really... all web sites are under construction.
3436  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How the hell do you promote a website? on: June 17, 2008, 03:54:21 PM

And if you just went with the default everything in HTML your website would look like poop, you know?

The 'smell funny' aspect is one of my big problems with most of it.

On the other hand, some of the cleaning products smell really good... and I actually made my wife do an item by item comparison before agreeing to it (and did a lot of poking around online as well, because I was dead set against it), and the prices worked out to be about even, or a little less.
