I just finished up the single player campaign and I really enjoyed it a lot. It's not a perfect game, but its well done and quite enjoyable. A lot of it is 'linear and scripted' but its well done. I loved the open world of Red Faction: Guerilla as well, but I went into this game with different expectations and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'd be up for ICO, Prince of Persia the Sands of Time, or God of War - all three have been sitting on my shelf since I picked them up for $15 a few years back.
I just finished BG&E tonight (for the first time). Most of the end sequences weren't too tough, except for one. It made it that much better when I finally finished though.

I had a much smaller party this weekend, but I did manage to get 30 people over to my place. I had the Wii set up on one TV and Guitar Hero set up on another. There was no doubt that Guitar Hero was more popular - I even had to set up my 360 with just one guitar on a third TV so that people didn't have to wait so long to play on the other TV. The Wii was more of a hit at my place than it was at the party you mentioned though - we did have 2 people playing it pretty much most of the night, but there wasn't a line to play like there was for Guitar Hero.

I'll be playing GTR 3, Prey, and Runaway 2: The Dream Of The Turtle.
How long does the Halo 3 Beta last? I thought that was over at the end of May. If It's going for a while then I'll have to go pick up Crackdown.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [DS] Need A game Recommendation For A Vacation

I'm flying down to Florida for a week and I won't have my lap top with me so my DS will be my one and only trusty gaming companion. I've owned a DS since Christmas but I've only bought Elite Beat Agents for it. I loved that game, but I'm ready for something new. If you had to buy just one game for the DS (other than EBA), what would it be?

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Computer Restarts When Opening A Folder - Or screen goes crazy
|
on: February 03, 2007, 01:38:56 PM
|
|
I built a rig back in August and while I had a few hiccups over the last few months it's worked pretty good overall. The main issue I had was with system errors because I hadn't installed my WDM drivers for my Sapphire X1900 XT graphics card. Once I installed those my system was golden.
About a week ago I was pushing the system back about 3 inches since it was sticking out past my desk and in the process of doing so it just shut down on me and it wouldn't turn back on. I pulled it back out, unplugged it, and flipped it on it's side. I plugged it back in and it turned on.
Ever since then I've been getting Windows system errors when I first turn it on and when I click on a folder the system either restarts or my screen turns into a million different colors for a bout a minute before I here an extra loud spin from the fan on the video card. Then the folder opens and I can do work in it. Until I need to open another folder.....
Any idea what it is? I've swapped out RAM, the soundcard, and the LAN card since I had extras of those laying around and none of those had any affect (I didn't expect them to, but I figured I might as well try). It didn't help. I reinstalled the OS on another harddrive and even on a 100% clean install I had the same problem so it's definitely a hardware issue.
I'm pretty sure it's either a video card, mobo, or cpu issue. Any suggestions? I'm going to run out and buy a cheap video card for now and try and swap that out to see if it helps at all.
Thanks for any help!

I showed up at Circuit City at 8:30 and there were 18 people in line ahead of me. Unfortunately there were only 15 units available. I guess I'll try again next Sunday.

I've got decade-old games I have yet to really get into. Some part of me still believes I'll have time to get around to them. Fool.
My oldest game is the Police Quest Collection from Sierra....so I'm thinking I have about a decade's worth of games too. Ouch....

I have a horrible backlog. Between my PS2, Xbox 360, GBA, and mostly my PC I have over 130 games in my backlog. My problem is that I make a list of games that I want to buy and then when they get to $20 or less I pick them up. That means I end up getting about every game I want. The problem is that now that I've graduated college, have a good job, and have a girlfriend I don't have the time to game that I used to. My backlog problems really started when I got addicted to DAoC for 4 years. My game buying habits never changed but my I quit playing single player games.
I set a crazy goal to try and finish 2 games a week for the next year. We'll see if that happens, but so far I've been doing well since late September.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Netgear Wireless Router
|
on: November 29, 2006, 03:31:49 PM
|
|
I purchased a wireless router over the summe for the first time. I have 2 desktops and a laptop hooked up to it and running on WPA security. Everything works great!
Not to long ago, I had a few friends over to play games over the LAN. We started with just oneextra computer hooked up to the LAN, giving 4 total machines. Everything still ran smooth. Another buddy showed up with his PC and when he connected it started giving one of the other computers a "duplicate ip address found on the network' error. (That's not an exact quote - I forget what it said)..
We also could only connect 4 people to the games we were playing. It didn't matter who the 5th person was, they couldn't get in. Only the first 4 to try to connect could.
Is there some sort of setting on my router that I can change to allow more than 4 people toconnect? It has 4 ports that I can hardwire into, but I assumed that because it was wireless I could support a lot more computers than 4. Am I wrong?

Meijer was a no go. Apparently they had 200 people in line this morning and they only had 8 units. They handed out tickets to a lucky 8 and those people came back at midnight to get their systems. I guess I should have tried Walmart; oh well.
Seems like these are all going to be sold out a minute after the stores open tomorrow.

Meijer (a supermaket in the Mid West) is selling them at midnight tonight. I need to get groceries anyway so I'm going to go check it out. I doubt they'll have enough for everyone, but it's worth a shot.

Ouch. My Best Buy is getting 46 and the line is already 3/4ths full according to the guy I talked to. As much as I'd like to wait outside all night in 30F weather I think I'll hold off for a bit and just drive around town tomorrow looking for one.

Should I expect to be able to walk into Best Buy an hour after it opens tomorrow and have a chance at a system, or are there going to be shortages for this launch too?

I've nver played a Final Fantasy game before and I don't regret picking this one up. I'm having a blast with it. It makes me wish I hadn't missed out on the previous 11. I might go back and play a few of them when I'm finished with this.

Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Best Buy Pricing Glitch: Get $10 off each PC game 19.99 and up
|
on: October 25, 2006, 12:33:37 AM

Best Buy is running a deal where if you buy 2 PC games 19.99 and up you will get $10 off them. Well, based on my experience and a few others over at OctopusOverlords.com it looks like they are offering $10 off each game. I picked up Warhammer: Dark Crusade and SW: Battlefront 2 for $19.99 and $9.99 respectively. Bother were priced $10 higher. Good luck getting some deals! I think I'm going to go back tomorrow and look for a few more lower priced games to pick up for $10 off.

Thanks for all the input so far. I think I'm going to pick up PGR3 for something to play until GRAW and Fight Night Rnd 3 arrive. I was really close to getting NFS:W instead of PGR3 but everyone here seems to like PGR3 and it was $15 cheaper. I didn't own an Xbox before so I haven't played the previous PGR games so it'll be all new to me. I can't wait to gete home from work and go racing!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What's your favorite X360 game?

As you know from the other thread, I finally purchased an Xbox 360. I ordered GRAW and Fight Night Round 3 but they won't arrive until early next week. I'm looking for a game to tide me over until then. I already own Oblivion for the PC, otherwise that would be my choice. I know close to absolutely nothing about any of the other games on the system, so again I am looking some recommendations.

I wish LucasArts would release all of their games on CD also. I have all the Sierra games in boxes and I managed to find all but Quest For Glory II for download on the web so I can play them using DOSBox. I haven't been able to track down any old LucasArts games that I own unfortunately

I was carded for the first time 2 weeks ago. I was buying Dungeon Siege 2 at Best Buy. The guy at the register said he has to card everyone, even 'old' people. I'm 23 and I certainly look it. I get carded for buying alcohol so I might as well get carded for buying games

I started out with C++ so I didn't think it was that bad. That said, I seem to catch on to other languages faster than my co-workers who learned Visual Basic and COBOL in college.
