I'd take HL2 if you still have it, didn't have a PC that could run it at the time it came out. PM sent.

Loved it. Exactly how I though it would end, couldn't be happier.

There are some upset folks, but all I can say is...if you watched this show from the beginning and didn't see that ending coming...sorry.

Avast was one of those companies with years of backlogs on new virus additions.   slywink

Avast updates daily, and has caught stuff Norton and MCafee completely missed, in my experience.

Avast, avast, avast, avast, avast!

The last time I used AVG, it didn't check malicious scripts on webpages, and Anti-vir popped up a nag window. Not sure if things have changed, but Avast goes on every PC I have, and any PC I work on, if I can help it.

At least they have him living in the skull. Still, that was probably my biggest disappointment. I guess they didn't have the budget to do some good CG.

I thought the show was just ok, on it's own, but compared to the books - bleh. Way too many things changed.

And yes, the PILOT airs on the 25th. I felt like I walked into the middle of the season with that first show. I'll prob watch for a couple weeks, at least until Stormfront airs, then see how I feel.

18  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Please recommend a good freeware MP3 ripper/encoder on: January 05, 2007, 03:35:55 PM
Regardless of charts and comparisons and graphs - I think most of us can agree that unless you are playing the files on a pretty good sound system, or a really nice pair of headphones, the difference is really negligible. If you are encoding at 128-160 for a portable device with earbuds, you are not going to hear that much of a difference, unless you have a very acute sense of hearing. While I prefer to rip with LAME, I am not sure I'd hear a difference in casual listening, unless the file was encoded at a super-low bit rate.

19  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Please recommend a good freeware MP3 ripper/encoder on: January 05, 2007, 11:39:36 AM
I personally don't use WMP for anything, but I have ripped stuff in the past with it. I personally prefer all my MP3's to be ripped with the LAME codec. WMP does not use it, it uses it's own thing. If you like to rip everything to WMA, WMP would be fine, I guess. It depends on how picky you are about your audio quality. I've used LAME for years (which CDEX, winamp and others use) and it's done well by me.
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Just Finished Dungeon Siege (PSP) - Spoiler Free on: January 04, 2007, 06:27:29 PM
I agree, the load times are excessive in DS. GTA:VCS are even shorter. That said, they are usually just when you enter a new dungeon or area. They don't interrupt actual gameplay much. The menus and maps could come up a bit faster, too. I am not sure if this is on the PSP side or the developers - I've got plenty of games that load much faster. Either way, don't let the load times stop you from getting it, they are tolerable.

That said, DS:TOA is almost my favorite PSP game - if not favorite, it's the one I've played the most. They did a really great job with varied locations and tons and tons of loot, with many unique items, not the same ones over and over.

As for the henchmen being useless, I agree - to a point. If you stick with one of your starting guys, and only use him, he's quite useful. It's the later ones that are just too low levels to be any use. My archer that's paired with my blademaster is just awesome. And yeah, it's easy. Like KC said, by the end, not much stands in your way, and the bosses while cool, are a total joke challenge-wise.

Edit - One thing I found on my 2nd playthrough - you won't gain exp if the monsters are too many levels below you - while exploring, I found a cave with level 58-60's, so I leveled in there for a while. When I went back to the final areas, I was much higher in level than the creatures, so my xp bar didn't budge at all, and I am pretty sure if yours doesn't, neither does your henchmens.

I did really enjoy the variety of enemies it kept putting out. There were lots of different ones, and many were quite cool. Also, just about everything you equip changes your characters appearance, which is nice.

All in all, if you like Diablo type games, you can't really go wrong here.

21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Need help with Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony - Quest: (28) The Corrupted on: January 04, 2007, 03:14:31 PM
No. After you do the cathedral quest, you go back to the guy in seahaven, the one who gives most of the quests. His name escapes me. After that, you need to talk to the guy who sells potions, even though he does not have an indicator above his head, he needs to be spoken to in order to finish the quest and let you move on. He's right across from the weapon merchant.

24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Need help with Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony - Quest: (28) The Corrupted on: January 04, 2007, 12:28:30 PM
That guy at the top won't open up until you have done the initial quests - did you do the quest in the cathedral at the top of the rock area? If so, you need to talk to the guy who sells you potions and revives your characters in Seahaven. I am pretty sure speaking to him will trigger the next set of of quests - you'll know if it does when he says something like "You did it!" and goes on for a second about it. It's not obvious because I don't think he has a big sign over his head like the others. If he just goes right to his buy/sell/revive menu, that's not it. If that's not it, look in your completed quest log and let me know the last couple quests you did.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Need help with Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony - Quest: (28) The Corrupted on: January 04, 2007, 01:31:33 AM
You've got a good while before you find him then, it's a bit down the road.

Where are you exactly, questwise? Have you done all the quests in Seahaven, and then gone north to the guy for a bunch more? I don't want to spoil anything for you, so give me a basic idea where you are and the last quest you did. Once you complete all the quests in Seahaven, the man at the top (at least if that's who I think you are talking about) will have quests.

Killzone is a blast.

My top

1. Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
2. Dungeon Siege: Throne Of Agony
3. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
4. Killzone: Liberation
5. Tie: GTA:VCS & Lego Starwars II

Our local Wal-mart told us they would have more on Dec 3. Might be worth a try. Our Best Buy had 51 this Sunday, they seem to be getting the most in at a time, at least up here in Maine.

I have not really bothered with movies on it either. I've checked some out, and they do look very nice on the display, but I have not had much of a reason to get any. Maybe if they were much cheaper and I was on a trip or something. They are very watchable though, even on the small display.
31  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (9/18) on: September 18, 2006, 01:01:45 PM
Okami for sure. Still pondering Bounty Hounds, from last weeks list.

Their top 100 guitar players of all time was just as much of a joke. I think Cobain and Jack White were top 20, while Eddie Van Halen was 78 or something. Not to mention the people that were not even on the list.
33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Okami? on: September 16, 2006, 01:25:43 PM
I just played the OPM demo, and I am in.

Okami is the rare game that made me feel like I was playing games for the first time again.
34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP LEGO Star Wars 2 impressions . . . on: September 16, 2006, 01:23:53 PM
Toss in another reccomendation. Probably my 2nd favorite PSP game. I've got over 4 hours in, and that's just with the first three levels of Ep IV. I don't have any issues with the load times (my psp stays in sleep mode half the time) and the graphics are fantastic. Seems like there is a lot to do.
35  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hell has frozen over - I'm probably getting a PSP on: September 16, 2006, 01:20:18 PM
Don't miss Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror. And while it's out on all the various consoles, Lego Star Wars II is very nice on the PSP. Daxter is good if you like the platforming stuff. MLB 06: The Show for sports. Don't let anyone tell you there are no good PSP games.

I don't regret one second that I bought a PSP. It's almost become my main gaming rig.
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (9/11) on: September 11, 2006, 02:35:02 PM
Bounty Hounds & Lego Starwars II for the PSP are mighty tempting...
37  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Marvel Mmorpg on: September 06, 2006, 05:11:08 PM
As I die-hard DC fan, I was thrilled when they announced a MMO. With Jim Lee directing art, no less!

Then, I kept reading. Published by Sony, and made by the same folks who made The Matrix Online.

*woe*
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP - $149 by year's end? on: August 15, 2006, 01:27:00 PM
UL2 is a bit better than the first, but it's not perfect. They tweaked the graphics a bit, added cut-scenes with voice acting, and polished it. Unfortunately, most of the characters feel the same to me, and like the console versions (Norraths) you just get so much cash, you can pretty much buy anything without hassle. The loot is a bit boring too. That said, I think for a hack and slash, it's just fine. It's nice to look at, your weapons and armor change to reflect upgrades, and it's a decent length. Oh, the changing forms is really just a gimmick that I forget is there half the time.

It's one of my 'play at work games' since I can save anywhere and pick it up/put it down easily.

Considering the amount of failures I've read about here, combined with the fact that EVERY IGN editor has had theirs fail, well it scares me.

3% or no, or small amount or not, when I buy hardware the fail rate should be less than 1%. Yeah, that's what I expect, I've been spoiled by Nintendo and the relative sturdiness of their machines. I don't want to spend $400 bucks and then have to argue with Customer Service.

I've been working in consumer electronics retail for 10 years and Nintendo is the only company with that kind of fail rate.  Not Sony, not Samsung, not JVC, not anyone else can say that.  The 360 fail rate is about average from what I've seen for a consumer electronics device.

That's bizarre. I've owned just about every nintendo device, and have only had one fail on me, and that was a gamecube with was used constantly by my kids for a year.

I think you misread, Sarkus is saying only Nintendo has seen that low of a failure rate, and that MS, Sony etc.. all would be considered the normal rate.

Doh! Sorry, I did indeed take his post for the opposite, my bad.
