So what was the final verdict on this? Steam has it on sale for $16.99 and I am thinking of grabbing it.
It requires GFWL and I didn't know that, so I just flushed that $17 down the toilet.

Yeah, I knew the 4s was a flop and leave it to Jobs to make an extremist reaction. My first reaction was "Damn why wasn't it George Lucas?". My second thought was "Good Riddance. Maybe apple will stop hating us now." One can only hope. 4S a flop? All because it didn't have a new form factor and was called '5'? good lord... and "good riddance?" fucking hell, man. I honestly wasn't aware that ibdoomed was 8. I now feel that I know everything about him that I will ever need to. Fine. I realize that equating Jobs alone for all the nightmare that apple causes me on a daily basis is wrong. I'm sure it's not just his fault. Much like I'm sure it's not Lucas alone farking up star wars.

Whaaaah 3D is evil! Whaaaah! Seems like the cool thing to bitch about now. Just don't go. Easy solution. Bingo. I haven't been to a theater in over 6 months. I can't even remember the last movie we saw and it used to be that we'd go almost every weekend. And no, this has nothing to do with the fact there hasn't been a movie worth seeing this year.

Saw it last night and thought it was f-ing terrible. Shia is an awful actor. Rosie was actually pretty good, but her lips are strange looking. Visuals were cool, but what the F was that worm thing with Shockwave? I did like laserbeak I guess.
I looked at the box on the shelf of blockbuster and came to the same conclusion. Drivel just like 99% of all other movies this year. Sigh.

From the website : Not Your Father’s MechWarrior hmm... I wonder what that means? Fast, agile gun-toting Mechs and COD style gunplay? I really...really...really hope not. unfortunately, the trend is to make EVERYTHING a FPS, so I fear a little bit for this as well. I'm ok with that since my father's mechwarrior was on a tandy with a top down view.

Pretty much, if you want to play online, you have to buy the game.
Ah, so nice to be back in the multiplayer again. Honestly, if this was multiplatform, I suspect Uncharted would have been really big.
The new maps are also much more vertical than before, the night map is crazy.
Although, there seems to be a little trouble with the cover system, that and the cover system still isn't that useful in versus multiplayer modes besides allowing you to actually duck. But, they did redo the timing on the whole grenade throwback system so that if a grenade lands near you in cover, you can actually toss it back.
They've also changed up the objective mode, I think even from the beta it's changed. Basically they're doing similar to how Killzone 2/3 handled objectives, where instead of playing in a set objective mode on a map, the game cycles through short rounds of various objectives, and the first team that wins 3 rounds of those wins. The objectives I've seen so far is simple deathmatch (team with most kills wins), multi-vip (kill a specific targeted character on the enemy team while protecting yours), various plunder modes where teams either grab and hold onto a gold idol or race around grabbing idols to deposit, and other variations on king of the hill or territory capture.
I love this method of handling objective multiplayer as it keeps the matches fresh, and helps balance out the game. There's perks that might give you an advantage in one mode (such as the infamous perk that allowed you to carry the plunder objective really fast, which broke that game mode) but aren't as useful when it switches to another.
Power plays and other shenanigans have been toned down a little from the beta. They still occur frequently, but they've stopped it from happening every minute of the game.
Ok, so it only affects online crap? Those of us that never plug the ps3 into the network are fine?

We were discussing this in the podcast this week
I don't have an ipod but if I ever get one, I'll be sure to check that out. You know it's just an audio file, right? You don't necessarily need an iPod... Yup, all you have to do is click the play button and it'll play in your browser, or you can download them for convenience. You don't have to touch the wretched iTunes application in any way. Ahhhh ok, the term 'podcast' has changed so much over the years.

It's KD's video so naturally I assumed it was captured in the absolute best possible way. There are faaar worse quality videos out there but I've not personally seen one better.
This is no way deters my purchase, obviously, it was more of an offhanded comment that it should run on just about any newish hardware these days, even laptops. I am curious what resolution they are forcing on us this time though and can it be windowed so that it's not blown up on a native 25x16 monitor to look like arse?
I played the game at 1080p and the videos are the same. They are roughly 19-20GB per 10 minutes of video that I convert to .m2ts (a high-res mpeg-2 stream) that makes them come out at roughly 1GB per 10 minutes. The game will look slightly better, but not by much. I think the video does a pretty great job at showing you what you'll be getting. Crap. I was afraid of that. Here's hoping that, as previously stated, those are the low res graphics and they are holding back hi-res for release.

We were discussing this in the podcast this week
I don't have an ipod but if I ever get one, I'll be sure to check that out. I know what you mean. Also it IS Blizzard so I don't expect awesome cutting edge graphics, but more of a scalable setup. http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/_images/screenshots/ss166-hires.jpg looks pretty good, though if you zoom in you can still see that there is a lower detail. i don't think the game is meant to be played zoomed in though so it should be pretty good. That looks a lot better. Maybe KD does need to review his capture procedure. We were discussing this in the podcast this week- it's very likely that the high-res textures have been held back for the final release. All of the official media from the site looks much crisper. Blizzard has made it clear that they are concerned with gameplay balancing for this beta so full-res textures wouldn't be necessary. that also limits download sizes quite a bit Whew! That's a relief. I just saw the Path of Exile video too....

Bastion was static except for weapon changes.
Bastion was just the first newer game I could think of that shares the same non-rotating perspective that diablo does. I'm sure there are others but things like witcher2 rotates so I didn't think it fair to compare.

That screen shot does look pixelated, but I don't know for certain that's what it looks like when it's on your screen. Going by videos is always a risky proposition. Do you know what res it was recorded in? What res it was played in? Too many variables. It might look bad, but jumping to that conclusion based on early vids is a bit naive.

Can we move on to complaining about the lack of a pause button? If I get this it will be for playing single-player, so I'm pretty annoyed about the omission.
Use the soul stone to warp back to town. Problem solved. but then I lose my progress! WHAAAAAAAAAAA! (like most people complaining about this wouldn't end up replaying the same levels dozens of times anyway) Also the graphics look just fine to me. (hint: watch them in HD instead of low res in a tiny window) This HD button? Yup, got it. This doesn't look terribly pixelated to you? Again, I'm not comparing D2 to D3 but I am comparing it to newer games like Bastion.

Has any of the beta testers tried to play this in a laptop w/o a dedicated graphics card?
From the videos, the graphics are, by today's standards, terrible so I would think it'll run on just about anything semi-recent. I only hope they at least chose a widescreen resolution this time.

If they don't split the queues, how else will they switch to a more lucrative per-person subscription model instead of the per-household one?
Whoa.... I missed that part.... I'm not down for that. They haven't explicitly said the above, but one of the analyses I read suggested it as a reason and I thought it made perfect sense. Well, I think they've proven they don't know what they are doing so we're going to cancel the streaming side as well. When they get day1 releases in at least 720p with 5.1, we'll come back.

I can agree with the sentiment that its too early to abandon DVD-by-mail entirely (which is why they haven't), but there is enough risk in it that they need to work on their streaming service and they've stated that DVD-by-mail is hindering that.
This is the part I don't understand. Why would the disc-by-mail side be hindering streaming? And how does splitting them and breaking the queue fix that? It really seems they want people to stop using the mail service and if that's the case, just stop doing it.

man, you guys are behind the times:
Sweet, CK!!! Did someone bring that back from the future? Does this mean we don't have to worry about the apocalypse next year? Because this would imply the world will last at least another.... 20 years to get to D5, right? If you look close it's an expansion pack, so it's more like 23 years. And it's on DVD-9 ! Wow, what version do we have now?

This make me curious how much hard drive space folks have that they can have 150-200 or more games on their machine. I have two 486GB (labeled as 500GB) hard drives on my HP. I'm still nearing the point that I may need to delete some things to make room for SWTOR and some other large footprint games soon. Although maybe it's referring more to the number of games bought than the number still installed? A Steam bud pointed out a similar site that's focused more specifically on the value of your games. I wasn't able to get that one working last night though. I'll ask him again tonight what the URL was. It's games owned, not actually installed. I only have one 120gb revodrive total and just install what I'm currently playing.

Regarding the mail. Here we only get mail on odd numbered M-F days. It's not every other day, like it sounds at first. Point of note: September 1st was a Thursday so we got mail; Friday was the 2nd, no mail; Sat and Sun, no mail; Monday was the 5th but a holiday, no mail; Tuesday was the 6th, no mail, Wednesday the 7th we got mail. We went almost a week without mail service. It hurts.
That's really odd. Is that a city, county, or state thing? It's a state government thing.

Is this real? GMG still lists 10/21. If they are really pulling this ploy to sell more of the console version then I'm cancelling my pre-order and they can eat shit, puke it up, eat it again, shit it out, eat it again, squirt it out, and then rub it on their nipples. All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Miramax fucks who are making that movie, we're gonna make 'em eat our shit, then shit out our shit, then eat their shit which is made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. Then you're all you motherfucks are next. Love, Jay and Silent Bob.
Peace out.

We're cancelling the disc side. Not having linked queues is the dealbreaker.
I'll emulate what others have said: Netflix isn't going to get new releases streaming at 1080p+ and that's what I want from my home theater.
This could be a comeback opportunity for blockbuster.
