I'm thinking of picking up a second 4850 card on the cheap to crossfire in my system to give it a little performance boost, but I've been reading comments that crossfire (and sli) is just a big PITA.
Does anyone use a crossfire system? Would you recommend it?
It used to be but not so much anymore assuming you're playing games made in the last couple years at the latest. With SLI sometimes you need to add a .exe to the profiles list in NvidiaInspector (even dead island needed this). There might be something similar with crossfire but I would do it in a heartbeat if I were ati.

I opera. On an unrelated note, the Companion cube look eerily similar in design to the crate that workers hauled onto the millenium falcon shortly before TK-421 was ambushed by terrorists (Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie). QFT. Opera's fast forward feature sold me on it years ago when browsing image gallery websites that wanted you to go back constantly so it would load the ads again.

a bit about 'Avengers Phase 2' from the New York Comic Con: "We've already announced Iron Man 3 and Thor 2; both of those will be spread out within 2013," explained Feige. "We haven't announced yet the 2014 movies, but we are working on a draft of Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, and some of these other ones we've been talking about for a while. Ant-Man I'm hoping we can get off the ground sometime soon. If these first group of films – "phase one" of this Avengers saga starting with Iron Man and ending with Avengers – has an overarching theme, which it does. As people sort of watch all the movies together and then watch The Avengers movie, they'll see this big picture we've been building towards... we have started working on the bones and structure and threading for a phase two. It does start with Iron Man 3 and if it all works – which we hope it does – culminates in another Avengers film." So, it's like a TV show....but in blockbuster movie form. And with less value.

yup. Although even up here in Canuckistan there are like ZERO music videos. Programming is filled with 'reality' shows and then shows talking about those shows......
Doens't MTV stand for Miscellaneous TeleVision? Where everything that all other networks refuse to air goes to die?

I'm doing the double dip myself, but the 360 version is paid off with trade in credit, and I figure I'll be able to get decent trade in value for it from a quick turnaround as I'm going to save most of the trophy hunting and sight seeing for the PC version. I imagine the PC version will have some sales- Green Man Gaming has it discounted, and if they run another code it might be even cheaper.
This one brings it down to like $36.04: TECHB-ARGAI-NS015 but there may be a better one out there.

I don't know why you think the delay is because of art assets, but I can pretty much guarantee you that those are not the issue. This is more likely caused by last-minute bugs (it's harder to debug a PC-game than a console game), driver issues, work needed on the menus, or marketing. Or all of the above. Art assets don't enter into the equation.
That was the impression given by the IGN article. I agree that makes no sense, but since they aren't stating what the issues are the natural conclusion is money. On the contrary, it's far less work. You begin with the most basic version (which is the console version since consoles have the greatest limitations by far) and make sure it works there, then add extras on top of that for the PC version. Of course, the basic version isn't built in a vacuum, so the groundwork is laid for the added features to make it easy to implement them later.
I guess I was thinking of it like a picture. If you take a 1mp picture and blow it up to poster size, it gets pixelated and looks like arse. Where as if you take a 12mp picture and shrink it, it still looks good.

The general feeling is they start with console and upgrade rather than down grade. Wow, that seems back asswards and a lot more work. Personally I think they hold back so it's not snapped up by the Pirates and causes console versions to sell less as free on PC could be more appealing than £40 on console if you have both or all three.
Excellent point. I also just realized that the console price is $60! Sheesh, with the legitimate price for PC being $36, I can understand them wanting to push the console versions more. That seems more likely than M$ or $ony offering kickbacks.

http://pc.ign.com/articles/119/1196634p1.htmltake it for what it's worth, but they are saying it is because the PC version isn't done yet. considering the state of RAGE at it's release I'm willing to take them at their word as it seems like they're not willing to release an unfinished product. they did the same thing with Asylum, and you could see the difference between the demo (horrible framerates) and the final version (smoother than ibdoomed's freshly shaven ass). Hmmmm. I guess what I don't get is that if the source textures and assets are created at a high res, then dumbed down for the consoles, wouldn't the PC version require less work since they can give out the native res? It really just seems like M$ or $ony called them up and said "Hey, can you delay the other versions and we'll slip you a little extra" and they said "No, but we can compromise and delay the PC version for you". Unless mouse and keyboard support require that much more work?

Ah. My mistake...not getting an obscure reference to a 30 year old movie that sucked.
There are exactly two parts of that which are correct. We'll give you 30 years, and it is definitely your mistake. heh, obscure reference... in what world? It's not like the tagline being quoted. A silly exchange between a main character and a henchmen. Do you remember every word that Auric said to Oddjob?

Except he did spill A lot. Someone needs to capture a still and slap FAIL on it. If it was anyone but you, I'd assume you were kidding. Honestly, I can't tell anymore. Check out second 27, 28, 29, and at 31 he overflows the pinky-orange one quite a bit. I thought your original post was in jest. P.S. I don't know what "encroyable" means. So, the feat is not impressive at all because I exaggerated the state of spillage? The man poured 12 martinis at once! How is that fail?! "Encroyable" means incredible. Sure, it's impressive, in the same way that lifting 500lbs is impressive. Lifting it with your private parts is a whole different world and monumentally more impressive. So if someone were to post a title "Woman lifts 500lbs with impressive body part!" and it's actually weights on her shoulders or something... Gotcha on the encroyable thing and I can hear Curly saying it in my head now, just never saw it typed out.

So I've used SkyLander for the better part of 10 years now. And now there is the new game Skylanders: Spryo's Adventur which I'm sure I'm going to get some "hurrrrs why did you choose that from a kids game". So given a situation like this would you find a new online nick? Only thing is that I've used this name everywhere....
I had that problem when Doom came out and I got past it. I also had that problem with Dirk when Boogie Nights came out, I got past that too. Stay tough.

Doesn't surprise me considering the number of times I go into the bathroom at work and hear somebody playing a game or texting while in a stall.
Although, to be fair, your toothbrush likely also has bacteria on it (including fecal coliform). Just because the bacteria is on there doesn't mean it is of levels that would make you sick.
Exactly. Never keep your toothbrush within miles of your bathroom.

. Now I no longer dread the snow. In fact, I'm kind of looking forward to using my new machine.
This is the only reason I'm still paying someone to shovel. I don't want to look forward to snow. I'm sure the novelty will wear off fast. I've always done all of my own shoveling, so I don't know what it costs to have somebody else do it. How many times would you have to pay your shoveler (or a plow driver, for that matter) to recoup the cost of a $500 snowblower? I'm under the impression that it will pay for itself within 2-3 seasons -- assuming, that is, that I couldn't just continue shoveling it myself for free. It's $20 a shot before 10am and $30 before 7am. We just go with the 10am and if I'm late for work, the hell with them. So that's 25 times at roughly 5 per season based on the last three years, basically 5 years. But if you have a really bad year that could be one month... that's the problem with snow versus grass, you know how often you need to mow...

Doesn't everyone like The Last Boyscout? Perhaps there are certain films that are simply "givens." Such as The Last Boyscout, Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Major League, The Blues Brothers, Aliens, The Secret of Nimh, etc. But my wife seems to prove me wrong whenever I assume she'll enjoy something I consider to be timeless, such as The Blues Brothers (I've never seen someone with such a look of disgust for such a sustained period). I'm apprehensive about having her watch The Last Boyscout. It has been in my DVD collection for decades, and she has somehow managed to go through life thus far without having ever seen it. She even tries to argue that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. Sometimes I wonder how we've managed to stay married thus far. IMO you can't go wrong with any of the movies that Shane Black has scripted (yes, even The Long Kiss Goodnight which I think is highly underrated).
I enjoyed The Long Kiss Goodnight as well. And you may be right, as Shane Black wrote The Monster Squad, Lethal Weapon, and one of my favorite comedies of all time, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Whoa. Wait a second. Isn't Days of Thunder a nascar movie? I agree with everything else you said, so that has to be a mistake.

a few reviews have started to trickle out,and they have been very positive Games Master Magazine gave the game 97% and said its "one of the greatest games ever made",GM magazine were one of the first to review Arkham Asylum, there was a rumour going around at the time that they could only review it early as long as they gave the game over 90%,they gave it 94%,whether the rumour was true or not it doesn't really matter as i thought the game deserved 94%(IMO),so Arkham City getting 97% is definitely a good sign Game Informer gave the game 10 out of 10,saying that "its the best use of a license in the industries history" German magazine Play 3 gave the game 92%..."Huge, exciting and beautiful. The best superhero game ever made." OPM Australia also gave the game 10 out of 10..."VERDICT: We can't imagine how a superhero game could be better than this. Absolutely sublime." "Presentation: Endlessly creative, perfectly moody, and technically flawless. This is Epic's Unreal engine pushed to its absolute limit." in other Bats news,DLC has been confirmed for November 1st CVGLaunching on November 1, it introduces Nightwing as a playable character across all challenge maps in the game, including two additional one included with the pack: Wayne Manor and Main Hall.
Nightwing comes complete with his own unique gadgets and special moves, while the pack also contains a bonus Animated Series Nightwing character skin Good to see they have time to work on DLC instead of the PC version.

No... it's the crank to turn blower. You can see the teeth near the front, and the crank has a coiled bar on the end.
The starter is a pull-start on the back. I, like this owner, also have an electric starter added to it on the top.
Wow. Look at you all fancy schmancy with your boxy things. Kidding aside, that's a gorgeous machine.

Cripes, what a bunch of jugheads.
Seriously. What happened to all those reasons that required them to separate the businesses? Negative feedback actually worked for once. This. We complained. We canceled. We spoke out with "vocal" feedback and monetary feedback and, on what seems like a very rare occasion, THEY LISTENED! Hoorah! We should be celebrating. Ok, sure, it seems like they don't know what they are doing and while I'm not sure they do, I feel like rewarding them for actually listening to us. Now the dilemma, blockbuster recently lowered the 1 out games/movies plan to $15/mo and there's no way I'm giving that up, so do I want to resub netflix disc service as well or not...

|
on: October 10, 2011, 01:12:50 PM

Yeah, I knew the 4s was a flop and leave it to Jobs to make an extremist reaction. My first reaction was "Damn why wasn't it George Lucas?". My second thought was "Good Riddance. Maybe apple will stop hating us now." One can only hope. 4S a flop? All because it didn't have a new form factor and was called '5'? good lord... and "good riddance?" fucking hell, man. I honestly wasn't aware that ibdoomed was 8. I now feel that I know everything about him that I will ever need to. Fine. I realize that equating Jobs alone for all the nightmare that apple causes me on a daily basis is wrong. I'm sure it's not just his fault. Much like I'm sure it's not Lucas alone farking up star wars. Apple causes you to have nightmares? Are you sure you're just not allergic to delicious fruit? Not that kind of nightmare. Because of all the hatred that apple has for the business world, they add a lot to my daily workload. For instance: Time Machine doesn't officially work over a network to anything but a time capsule unless you hack the com.apple.systempreferences through the terminal then jump through hoops of creating the sparse.bundle file yourself. Then every update, or randomly for no apparent reason, it breaks and you have to do it all again. Just to try and sell more time capsules. Support is terrible. For instance, I had a magic trackpad die recently, doesn't function on any macbook around, and since it's only a couple months old, I called to have it replaced but they require I be at the specific users macbook, mine isn't good enough. I've been through things like this before, we usually give up as the time spent trying to make apple replace something under warranty costs us more than just replacing it. Apple is also the only major computer manufacturer that will not send us parts when something like a motherboard goes bad. Everyone else will, lenovo, hp, dell, ibm, mpc (gone, cry), sony, toshiba and we're not "certified" with anyone. Then there's the whole "can't buy from anyone but direct from apple or apple doesn't honor the warranty" crap. Transfer mode us firewire only but then they remove firewire and don't implement it over usb? Nice. How about needlessly proprietary hardware like hard drives? Thankfully there's transfer mode... oh wait... I should stop, this just raises my blood pressure.
