1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: MLB - The Show 09 on: March 14, 2009, 03:03:14 PM

Given my limited gaming time, I've been playing as a closer in RTTS. It's a great way to play since typically every situation is important. Of course slightly less so given that I'm playing for Marlins' AA affiliate.  icon_cry

And I've only had two at bats through July.

Did it take you guys a bit to get into the game?  It seems to be like it really starts off slow.  Travel is difficult and tedious and it really seems vague about what to do.

I'm just starting out too - playing on PC - but it definitely started out slow, but now that I've picked up a better understanding of the different types of missions and weapons, it's grown on me.

This game is so much more than I realized. There's an incredible amount of openness that doesn't exist in the typical on-rails FPS.

There are some annoyances, others have mentioned them, but while they detract from the overall experience, the big picture is that this game is lots of fun.

By the way the 360 version of this is $39.99 right now at gogamer.com

Well I'm probably about to be crushed to death by all of the games coming out, but thanks for the tip. I just picked it up. Just can't use the voice control when the wife's around.  paranoid

anyone pick this one up?

Got a pretty strong review from gametrailers and it caught my eye.

I've been playing through this game too. I am really enjoying it. Great design and the level of challenge is perfect. It's been hard at times, but never ridiculous.

Really looking forward to the sequel now.

Does anyone have any helpful links to valid discount codes for renting a car or if you have the actual codes, that would be good too. Thank you.  biggrin

HDMI from the 360 is capable of carrying both the video and the audio signal. Because your HDTV supports optical out it should allow a 5.1 DD signal to pass through to your receiver. From what you describe it sounds like it is in fact doing that. Does your receiver display icons for the active audio signal, i.e. DD 5.1, PL II, DTS, etc? If it does, that should be all the confirmation you need.

My receiver displays the Dolby logo with PL II.

This is from Wikipedia, so I guess everything is in surround sound after all. Thanks all for the info.

[In 2000, Dolby introduced Dolby Pro Logic II (DPL II), an improved implementation of Dolby Pro Logic. DPL II processes any high quality stereo signal source into "5.1"—five separate full frequency channels (left, center, right, left surround and right surround) plus one low-frequency-effects (deep bass) channel. Dolby Pro Logic II also decodes 5.1 channels from stereo signals encoded in traditional four-channel Dolby Surround. DPL II implements greatly enhanced steering compared to DPL, and as a result, offers an exceptionally stable sound field that simulates 5.1 channel surround sound to a much more accurate degree than the original Pro Logic./quote]
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 connection question (is re: HDMI & audio) on: May 06, 2008, 12:58:15 AM
I'm fairly competent with video, but not so much with audio.  icon_confused

My xbox360 is connected to my TV with an HDMI cable (this is the only thing connecting the Xbox to any audio/video device). There is an optical digital audio out on my TV. I have this outputting to my receiver.

Does that sound right? Everything sounds good when I'm playing (i.e. surround sound) but I didn't know if this was the best way to set this up.

Can anyone advise?

thanks.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gameplay - freezes and stutters - bad copy or bad XBox? on: October 20, 2005, 10:25:27 PM
I just got the new World Series Baseball 2k5 for the XBox.   Periodically when a ball is hit, it takes like four seconds for the actual ball to be seen in the field.  The game just stops and hangs for that time.

Same thing when you're picking teams, the team logos sometimes take time to come up.

Should I exchange the game for another copy or is this being caused because I have one of those original XBoxes w/a drive that occasionally can't play a DVD correctly and sometimes gives me a message that my game disk cannot be read.

thanks.

I want to donate but not to the Red Cross.  After the debacle about how they mishandled funds donated for victims (& their families) of 9/11, I would rather donate my money to Unicef http://www.unicef.org or another worthwile recipient that I identify.
