Hepcat, now you've made me go and make a Burton list!!! Obviously this is personal opinion, but I wanted to see if my analysis was correct. For sake of simplicity, I'm only listing feature-length movies Burton directed.

i've been (finally!) learning Java the past eleven months. what i've mostly learned is that i really* don't like being back at school trying to chase grades again - especially on the back of working full-time - but i think it's been a worthwhile experience. i'm on the third-to-last assignment in the final 'Advanced Topics in Java' class, and i can look back at the hours i've invested over the past year and know i've accomplished something (trying as it has been, at times). my biggest complaint with Java is that the examples skew heavily towards server and 'middleware solutions', which is a bit yawnsville for me. so to bring the fun back, i've been eyeing Atari 2600 development (!), and think i'll move onto that when classes are done. talk about low-level... http://atariage.com/2600/programming/

they're going to have to chip apart the tons of concrete that was mixed in with the dumped material... i would be surprised if they got anything worth salvaging from this, but i'm hoping it won't all be for nothing.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / computer upgrade question (AMD sockets)

i'm looking into upgrading my machine to handle a larger, higher-resolution monitor - the one i'm using right now is a 17" Samsung SyncMaster 170MP from 2003. originally i thought i would just switch out the video card... then i thought that the processor might bottle-neck the graphics performance, so then i'd need a new one of those... but my motherboard is AM3 and has no update for AM3+.
questions are:
1) would my machine's performance be bottle-necked by a decent ATi video card? and if so, 2) is the best possible AM3 processor really going to make much of a difference over my current one? (if not, then swapping out motherboard and RAM and reinstalling OSes becomes necessary.... which i'd rather not do, at this point.)

I brought myself out of my doldrums yesterday after rediscovering the greatness that is Half Man Half Biscuit. I dare anyone to be grumpy after listening to even one of their songs. With song titles like "Fuckin' 'Ell, It's Fred Titmus!", "Lord Hereford's Knob" and the above linked "Took Problem Chimp to Ideal Home Show", simply reading their song list makes me laugh. If you’re going to quote from the Book of Revelation Don’t keep calling it the Book of Revelations There’s no “s”, it’s the Book of Revelation As revealed to St John the Divine See also Mary Hopkin She must despair You’ve got a shit arm, and that’s a bad tattoo You’ve got a shit arm, and that’s a bad tattoo
Authentic celtic band… there is also the greatness of Stump

saw this last night - i think it was good for some of the casting experiments (though i noticed there are no white people playing black people, only asians... that's kind of a cop-out!) and the overall theme, but it really didn't hang together otherwise. the original story probably works better. also, ... i think i haven't really formulated my thoughts on it. the Wachowskis are weird in that their films have Hollywood-y trappings, but i don't hate them like i would with those.

also happens when changing resolution, once in a while. this is only a 'sometimes' problem, but when it happens, it will occur several times in a row. powering off and then powering on the monitor will display the graphics properly again.
suspecting a monitor or video card issue... mmmmaybe even power supply. has this ever happened to anyone?

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / replacing analog controller on Sony PSP-1000
|

so the stupid nub kept falling off, until the socket finally split. i attempted to glue it back onto the PSP, but all i managed to do was dent the surface of the analog controller mechanism and now it doesn't work correctly. it looks like the replacement is simple, but i'm wary of buying an inferior component - what are the best places to order from? i don't mind spending a few more dollars if i can be assured of getting a quality or OEM replacement.
