Saw it at my local Target this afternoon.  Had a clerk grab it from the case and take it to the register.  However, half way there the guy tells me, "I don't think I'm supposed to sell this to you until tomorrow.".  When we got to the register he scanned it and then says, "Nope, not until tomorrow.".  He then yells over his shoulder to a coworker to get them off the shelves.   crybaby

ah well, after the impulse buy fervor died down, i realized it may be best that i wait until some actual reviews before plopping down my cash.  i have WAY too big of a backlog to justify anything but the "must haves" right now.   tear

I know that personally I was eating WAY too much junk food.  Paying even a little attention to what I ate helped tremendously at first.  Looking back I'm amazed at how much I'd put away in a day.  Being able to say "no" to the cookies and cakes people leave in the office kitchen each morning is tough, but worth it!

Okay, down to 200 from 220.  Switched to a low carb diet after seeing a report in the New England Journal of Medicine that showed the results of a 3 year study.  Seems high cholesterol and weight were both significantly reduced in the low carb plan when compared to 3 other popular diets (low fat and another called the "Mediterranean diet").

Started the couch to 5k plan about 45 days ago.  I'm up to half mile run, quarter mile walk, rinse repeat ad nauseum.

170, here I come.   icon_wink

Hepcat...checkout the TNT Diet - http://forums.menshealth.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1991017124/m/1431038013

In just over two months of following the diet and excercise plan I've dropped over 20 lbs. Started at 208 on June 23rd, weighed in at 187 this morning. I look fucking good.  icon_biggrin

Yeah, Black Dahlia was also disappointing, I must admit.  But Street Kings is so amazingly shallow when compared even to that film that I had to check the credits again to make sure I didn't actually see a similarly named James Elroy credited instead of THE James Ellroy.   icon_wink
8290  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: James Ellroy on: August 28, 2008, 05:32:14 PM
I just watched Street Kings because James Ellroy is listed as one of the screenwriters.

...I gotta say, it was a big disappointment for me.  I saw none of the character depth or complex story that I've come to expect from Ellroy.  To me, it seemed extremely derivative and superficial.  I can't believe that Ellroy was that invested in the process of creating this film.   icon_eek

I've logged so many hours in the 360 version of Oblivion that I've decided I'm going to restart (and hopefully this time finish) the Shattered Isles expansion on the PC with the new version 2 poopmod that some kind folks are currently working on.  I also need to finish the Dark Brotherhood and Fighter's guild lines while I'm at it.  Hopefully going this route will make the experience fresh enough that I won't notice stuff I've already done countless times in my many, many hours on the 360.   icon_wink

edit:  poopmod version 2 is done!   (hope it's okay to cross post this.  If this is a breach of etiquette please let me know and i'll remove it)

We now return to our regularly scheduled program.

I have to agree somewhat with Yellowking.  I thought Ledger gave a much stronger performance than Nicholson (as pointed out by others, Jack was just being Jack for the most part), but I thought his Joker was lacking some of the over the top maniacal antics that I've come to expect from The Joker as depicted in the comics.  I'm not trivializing Ledger's accomplishments though.  If the Joker had been a new character without such a rich history, I'd have been knocked out of my seat by his work!

I wonder if you get the same urges when you read reviews around the net, and if you notice just how "condescending" people can get when they don't enjoy something.

Most folks around here don't (consistently) tell folks that they're morons if they don't agree with their view.  You really should seek out professional help.  I was sincere in my appraisal of your issues and I think you need to look into yourself to see if perhaps there's something that can be done.  You've been the object of many, many thread fights over the last year or so, both here and at OO, and perhaps it's time to accept the idea that that may be due to some subconscious need to elevate yourself at the expense of others.  If you want to be able to exist within a social environment such as an online forum without constant conflict, you're going to need to do something about the way in which you express your opinions.  Everyone argues on the 'net from time to time, but I don't think I've seen as high a number of negative reactions to a poster as you seem to collect in your travels.

You demonstrated long ago that you didn't have the kind of online personality that I would ever invest anything emotional in.

If you're investing any emotion in responses from folks in an online forum, you should probably reevaluate your participation in such venues.

I love, love, love the map packs for GRAW2 that were released.  Especially the one that includes a ton of old maps from the original Ghost Recon PC series.  It brings back such fond memories when I load up those maps and try to go it alone.  It's like replaying the original series but with all the new bells and whistles.  If you haven't picked these DLC's up, I can't recommend them enough.

Heck, now I wanna organize a GRAW2 night to play these maps in MP.   icon_wink

I understand that being contrary is what makes you feel special.  Makes you feel like you're somebody.  It's oftentimes a symptom in cases of almost debilitating low self esteem.  I realize that you're driven not by actual logic or true bouts of insight, but by a pathology that dictates that in order for you to justify your existence you must belittle all others whenever the opportunity arises.

I actually am not angry or upset with you.  In fact, I pity you.  It must be very difficult for you and I can only imagine the anguish you feel when you're unable to convince others of your superiority.

I hope you someday get the help you need, truly I do.   icon_cry

No you don't, and you know it.  You're just saying that because those games were not well reviewed/liked.  Don't be such a predictable drone.  Pete's right:  you're just contrary for the sake of being contrary.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed Dark Knight. So did I, really, and I believe it's a fine film in terms of entertainment. Does it belong where the hype originally placed it (No. 1 on IMDB)? No, and you all know it. I haven't checked the score, but I'm pretty sure it'll end up below top 10 - which is somewhat more realistic.

your original statements implied that anyone who thought the story in The Dark Knight had any depth was a 10 year old child.  Now you're simply saying it's not the best movie ever made.   Problem is, no one took issue with the idea that it wasn't the greatest film ever made.  You're just hoping to get SOMEONE to agree with you, it appears.

Try this statement next:  "It's got people in it!  And there's talking!".  You may get someone on board after that.   icon_lol

Elaborate on the 10 year old moral concepts, please.

he didn't understand the actual message of the film and is giving you his view based solely on this inability to grasp that message.  therefore the elaboration will simply be an extension of that misunderstanding.  ergo:  pointless

Yeah, I do NOT look back fondly on the umpteen gates I had to close in the main quest.  What made it even more unbearable for me was that each one had hall after hall and room after room that looked exactly alike.  It was so friggin' easy to just wander in a circle for hours until you found the one right door amongst the 1200 that looked exactly the same that I almost threw my controller down in disgust more than once.    icon_mad
