well, looking at the episode list, I guess sealab devolved pretty quickly.  The early episodes were pretty coherent, like the one with the kid from the make-a-wish foundation and Debbie interviewing people to father her baby, but then you got in to stuff like the Bizarro episode and the one where the captain is playing golf through the station. That stuff was funny at times but often had me shaking me head.

Brak went bad when they changed the Mom's voice. That was really jarring.

Yeah, i agree.  The first two seasons of Sealab are priceless.  Murph was my hero.  Unfortunately, after the actor who voiced him passed away, they lost their momentum.   icon_cry

The fact that the author is a devout Mormon who set out to write wholesome stories promoting good values and vetted by her minister explains a hell of a lot about these books.

Jeebus, why don't they just call the series "Big Love: Transylvania"?

My question:  Why can't they add a shuffle function to playlists???  Or even to an album?  Or an artist?  WOuld that be so hard to do???

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but isn't that option under "settings:music"?

Ah.  So I have an option to turn on a permanant shuffle mode, and from there the playlists, albums, etc will always shuffle.  Not quite as elegant as having an option at the top of the playlist that said "shuffle" but I can live with it.

I'm confused.   icon_confused  I'm looking at my zune right now and at the top of every section except playlists are the words "Shuffle All".  Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're looking for?

8286  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Fringe Premiere on: September 17, 2008, 03:11:02 PM
Supernatural is still the best horror based show on prime time.  I like Fringe and think it shows promise if they give the crazy doctor more screen time, clear up the conspiracy plot (really, it just seems tacked on at this point) and get some good talent to craft "monster of the week" shows (right now it's like they've hired all the former writers from that abysmal Night Stalker remake); but Supernatural has decent horror stories combined with some genuinely funny moments with actors who I honestly thought I would never like in a million years.  Over the course of the last few seasons, the writers on Supernatural have figured out the proper formula for the show and have it down to a science at this point.  I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night's season premiere.

It was fun for a month, but ultimately it became just the same old song and dance for me.  To be clear, ALL mmorpg's lose my interest after a period ranging from a month to 6 months.  The ones that have kept me longest (EQ2, DAoC, City of Heroes/Villains, LOTRO and WoW) do so primarily because of content (especially when it comes to starting up new alts) or because of neat loot that I can use to really make a difference in my character (WoW is especially good at this...and the new Warhammer appears to be following that paradigm so far...although whether that lasts remains to be seen).  AoC has one starting zone for all characters and the drops weren't terribly impressive to me.  The much ballyhooed interactive combat was really just a gimmick, imho.  I didn't really see any substantial strategy involved in the combat, to be honest.

In the end, it was a very pretty game with some nice mechanics, but nothing to really push it ahead of the pack.

due to the wanderers choice in servers, i'm planning on making a character on ostermark.  this will be my first real experience with an RP server in an mmorpg (i tried one in wow but quickly abandoned my character after a few days), so i'm not sure how i should behave.  is there a guideline somewhere with suggestions on how to talk, act, etc..?

thanks for any suggestions!

without having to go through this entire thread, i have a quick question....

for someone who didn't play the beta or preorder or anything, can i just go to D2D and download the game and start playing today or do i have to wait a couple days?   is today just for beta players and those who preordered?  i was in Best Buy and looked for a copy and they didn't have any yet.

i don't know about the D2D question, but i would imagine that if you wanted to play today for sure, you could just pick up a pre-order box at best buy.  I was at my local BB at lunch and there were a ton of those things still on the shelves.

just use the pre-order key that's on a slip of paper inside the box at the mythic account page (after creating an account, of course) and you should be good to go.

For those of you getting authentication errors this morning when trying to update your game for the SE, try changing the password.  It may be a coincidence and the authentication servers came back online during the 3 minutes it took me to change the password, but it worked for me at 7am Central Time (SE was supposed to start at 7am Eastern, so I waited an hour before trying to find a resolution).  After numerous authentication failures, I just went into my mythic account page and changed my game account password.  Patcher started up right away.  Like I said, could be coincidence and they just started them up an hour later for SE head start, but it's worth a try if you're still having issues.

(And the only reason I was in the movie was because the movie theater dropped an early screening of the movie that I wanted to see, and this was the next thing showing...)

I saw it saturday and while I enjoyed it, it still pales in comparison to many prior coen efforts.  the characters were just too one dimensional.  pitt's character, for example, had no back story whatsoever.  not even a slight hint as to what makes him tick.  i usually look for these details in a coen film but found them missing this time around.

As i said, i enjoyed it.  I laughed out loud more than once.  But i can't recommend it for anything beyond a rental or a bargain matinee.

oh, and the funniest parts of the movie involved J.K. Simmons.  He was hilarious in his befuddlement.

I was careful to point out that I'm talking about people who wouldn't have bought the game anyway, in which case I think the crime is victimless.

I'm also not trying to be a jerk, but you seriously don't believe that, right?  I mean, that's just wrong on a level that cannot even be debated.  The victim is the person who created the item.  By downloading it illegally, you're taking the money that would potentially be in their pockets from that sale away from them.  And this crap about theft not applying to anyone who wasn't going to purchase it anyway is just ridiculous.  If they weren't going to purchase it, why are they downloading it?  that's like me stealing tampons.  If I wouldn't purchase tampons (being a guy), why in the hell would I take them for free?

if you download it, you wanted it.  if you wanted it, the potential for a sale exists.  end of story.   icon_eek

Look, i can't stand the DRM used by EA in the aforementioned games.  However, I also place the blame squarely at both EA's AND a software pirate's feet.  EA for overreacting and instituting knee jerk reactionary anti-piracy measures, and the warez scene for making them react at all.

No, it isn't theft.  It's copyright infringement which is a different thing.  If someone downloads a game they would never have bought anyway, no harm has come to anyone and nobody has lost anything.  That doesn't fit the definition of theft that I know.

Huw, that's theft.  If I go out and steal car I never intended to purchase, that's theft.  True, this is digital media, but the same concepts still apply.  Saying that Copyright Infringement is not technically theft is like saying that Manslaughter is not technically murder.

and it's not victimless.  the software company that paid developers to make the game are the victims.  the distributor that sought to reclaim the expense they laid out for the right to distribute the game are the victims.  ultimately, those of us who have to deal with draconian DRM applications as a direct result of people downloading and not paying for games are the victims.
8309  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Warhammer Online headed to Open Beta on 9/7 on: September 15, 2008, 05:52:16 PM
if it's anything like LOTRO or any of the other MMORPG's I've played during a "head start" type program, then yes...the retail box (or full online version if purchased in that manner) will have a specific key intended for post head start use.

after the head start period ends they'll shut down access to users who don't have this key.
8310  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [DRM] Red Alert 3's DRM crapola revealed on: September 15, 2008, 05:21:17 PM
actually, that would be theft.  i don't like the drm situation ea is pushing on people, but i'm not going to let that oversight on their part cloud the nature of piracy.
