It seemed to be making an attempt to try to find its footing.  Whether or not it's a case of "too little, too late" remains to be seen.

suggestion:  dump the time travel arc before you do even more damage to the plot.  plus, create a character bible that outlines what each character can and can't do and covers the history of each character and at least make some effort to refer to it from time to time.

Maybe it's only personally applicable, but Green Tea really helped me with the cravings.

If that doesn't work, try to expose yourself to as many folks with Strep Throat that you can.  Smoking through that requires more effort than it's worth...

As an aside, when I was trying to type "City Lights" I accidentally typed "Clity Lights."  Definitely a different movie.

how many times did you have to watch the latter before you realized they were different films?

Like four.  I kept saying, "I thought City Lights was supposed to be a silent movie."

I was the same way with "On Golden Blonde"...

I'm currently working my way through Lawrence of Arabia (3 1/2 hours). I've been watching it in 30 minute chunks for the past week because that's about as long as I can focus on it in one sitting. It's a really beautifully shot movie, but it's soooooo long........

I watch that film over christmas vacation every year.  it's in my top 5 film list.  o'toole is just so damn amazing.  there's a scene (i won't ruin it in case you haven't reached that part) where he unburdens himself and admits something to another character that obviously pains him a great deal that will just blow you away.

...now i wanna watch it again, dagnabit.   icon_wink

as for citizen kane, that's actually at the top of my list.  i think your disinterest in the film's story is a contextual problem.  If you had seen this during the heyday of Hearst, it would've had a much stronger impact on you.  Hearst's power during those days cannot even be imagined in this current world of celebrity as power.  he was a force of nature and welles just went after him in a way no man had ever done.

8049  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Why are there no Warhammer Online Impressions thread? on: October 01, 2008, 02:43:31 PM
Monday night I logged in for a few hours.  Took my level 13 Witch Hunter to a contested area and was just cruisin' around.  Saw a level 22 Squig Herder attacking a low level Empire character.  By the time I got near, the Empire character was dead.  Squig boy sees another enemy and sends his trusty Squig after him.  I stealth and go in for the kill, knowing full well that even a Squig Herder could kill me with that disparate a level difference.

I hit him with Burn Armor, losing my stealth.  I fully expect him to just turn around and start whaling on me.  However, he just starts running.  I chase after him, using back stabs the whole way.  Finally, he's down to about a quarter health before he realizes that he's being chased by someone almost half his level and turns around to start fighting.  It was a Laurel and Hardy moment when he thought to himself..."Wait, I'm being attacked by a 4 year old!?!?".    icon_biggrin

He killed me, but that was more due to the fact that he'd run to a destruction keep and I couldn't close for the melee kill due to his standing within attacking distance of lvl 55 champion guards.

It's a great little show.  I feel the same way about Chuck as I do Eureka:  great cast that works so well together that they make any inconsistencies in the plot/script a minor annoyance at best.

My favorite part?

Spoiler for Hiden:
The almost boyish glee Adam Baldwin's character shows when no one's looking as he races off to watch Jeff eat 90 twinkies in one sitting.

If you'd asked me who I would place on a list of my "best actors of the early 21st century" at the start of the millenium, I would never guess in a million years Viggo Mortensen.  But man, after the LotR trilogy, History of Violence and Eastern Promises the guy has really pulled himself up from his "pretty boy" roles early in his career to become one hell of a fine actor.

...plus, he earns extra points for having been married to Exene Cervenka from X.

So that means that Season 4 will reveal they are all aliens?

that's what happened in the 2nd highlander, so it's coming up on heroes this season.

sidebar:  highlander 2 has got to be one of the silliest sequels ever made.  Especially in light of how beloved the original was.  how can you go through the entire first film without even mentioning this fact once and then expect the audience to accept it as official in the sequel?

I will watch this show when the scourge that is reality television has been wiped from the earth, when midget wrestling takes it rightful place alongside professional football and baseball as an American institution, and when Martha Stewart writes and stars in a show about a detective agency comprised solely of hot blonde women who solve each week's crime with the liberal use of sponge baths and cleavage.

Well, I felt ep. 3 was a bit of a letdown, to be honest.  I'm still sticking around since it may yet find its footing, though.

The thing that ticked me off was the doctor's suddenly remembering that he was the guy who worked on the chubby guy all those years ago...and that he tore out a section of his wall at home to store a device used in the experiment.

I defended this type of story device for the first two episodes since those could be explained (albeit thinly) by coincidence.  However, this past episode it was just sloppy.

I hope this isn't an indication of how future stories are going to play out.

As long as everyone (including the women) start sporting Goatees, I'm okay with turning the entire cast evil for season 3.

Explaining all the discrepancies found in the season 3 premiere as due to time travel is a really, really cheap deus ex machina.  While I think DMD's theory was a good one, I also lament it if it is indeed true.  It's akin to waking up and finding Bobby Ewing in the shower at the end of the season.   icon_evil

8070  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Heroes Season 3 on: September 23, 2008, 10:29:44 PM
Mohinder has never once struck me as disappointed in the fact that he had no powers.  He's always come across as someone driven to understand his father's research and, after discovering the fate of his sister, to help those who were a danger to themselves or others.  Yet within 2 minutes of ep 1 of season 3, he roughly grabs plague chick and starts proclaiming that he can now GIVE people superpowers.

No, I'm sorry, that came from left field.  It was just sloppy writing.  They need to get together in a war room, hash out where they think they're going, then turn the bus in the right direction.  Right now it's heading for a crash.

My best guess on what's going on is that someone's boyfriend or girlfriend suggested that it would be fun to have everyone go "dark" this season so they could wear black leather outfits a lot.  So now they're rewriting all their characters so they can justify the purchase of 23 Matrix style trench coats.

edit:  i was also laughing at Mohinder, after 2 seasons of intensive research in both a lab and in the field, suddenly realizes within that aforementioned 2 minutes that it's (AHA!) adrenaline that's the key!

Where did you get your diploma, big brain...the Hasbro School of Science and Small Appliance Repair?

Overzealous, yes.  Wanting to give everyone powers?  That came out of the blue.  Wanting superpowers himself?  Another one out of the blue.

Odd that so many of you don't like it.  I enjoyed most of it (especially the fact that they played an extra episode).  Thought the story moved at a good pace and was enough drama and action in the mix.  Definitely couldn't compare it to season 2 imo.

not really all that odd since i believe the majority of reviews (both amateur like those found here and professional tv critics alike) are calling it a mess.

the change in the way characters act is worthy of complaint.  I noted this on OO, but when the hell did Mohinder turn into a power mad scientist?

It's just a mess, they need to fire the writers they have and get someone on board who understands the basic concept of continuity.

I love Supernatural.  It's just come together as a decent successor to Night Stalker, IMHO.  The interaction between the Winchester brothers, the use of classic rock, the underlying story arc that doesn't stray too far from the essentials established in the first season...the writers and producers have done a great job of keeping it on track.
