I loved the fact that your character could continue to level up even if you started a new game.  If you found that the game is insufferably hard, you could just return to it after bulking up.  The save system was annoying, but only because I'm used to the luxury of pc game save systems.  On consoles, that type of save system is fairly common.

The sheer joy of whacking wave after wave of zombies with an electric guitar was worth the price of admission and the frustration of going from pc gaming to console gaming norms.

I'm with EroticCabbage on this one.  DR was a great, great gaming experience for me.  I admit, I had no desire to pick it up based on the demo that they released a few months before the game came out.  But after seeing more and more positive reviews on it when it did hit the shelves, I broke down.  I'm glad I did.  It really is a game that's greater than the sum of its parts.  The overall experience is just fantastic.  I still go back and replay it every few months just to try and save more of those losers holing up in the food court or whatever.

I'm actually enjoying my little stockpile so far.  10 games for 100 bucks isn't that bad a haul.  I'm about an hour into Jericho and even though I can understand some of the complaints, I'm having fun with it.  I plan on playing through most of what I got and trading in what I find I don't like (Hellboy going first).  I look at it this way, it's only a couple dollars more than a rental on the game at blockbuster.

P.S.  I'm going to check back for a copy of Devil May Cry 4 as I've heard from more than one source that they might be restocking today.

I got this also during the BB clearance sale Sunday.  For 10 bucks, I figure I can't go TOO wrong.

Question though:  I thought the makers were talking about releasing a fairly comprehensive patch that included content and changes to gameplay that were supposed to bring the game more in line with their original vision?  Has that ever been released?

You need to be connected to Xbox Live(just a Silver account) in order to play BC games.  You need to usually download a small update for most games.  The Halo games were the only games that didnt need a 1st time update.

I think he mentioned either here or the crosspost on OO that he'd already downloaded the updates.  My suggestion was based off the assumption that something might be wrong with the software on his system and that maybe a connection to the Live servers might help.

Not to undermine the premise of the movie, but who would come up with the idea of putting a person alone on the moon for 3 years? That just seems like a recipe for disaster that no one outside of the University Psychology department would contemplate.

Oh, but he's not alone, he has that friendly not-HAL to keep him company. And I'm sure not-HAL has nothing do with any of this.

Made me think of Silent Running.

God, that movie made me cry like a little girl when I was kid.

On a good note, at the Best Buy I was at yesterday, everyone was great. People were helping other people find games and check prices. Didn't see any asshats hoarding anything.

I had the same experience at the BB I went to yesterday morning.  This one guy was talking on the phone and every time he'd repeat the name of a game that his son (I assumed it was his son because of the tone of the conversation) asked about, someone would hand it to him if it was available.  It was actually pretty humorous.  The guy would wave away most of them, but he took a few that were offered.

I would try hooking it up to the 'net before throwing in the towel.  If it's got some mucho old copy of the dashboard running on it that's all screwed up, it may be causing your problems.  I've never encountered an issue with BC games, so I'm surprised at the trouble you're having.  It's usually completely painless:  put game in the drive, xbox downloads update, i'm playing within 3 minutes.

7616  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [trailer] Moon on: April 27, 2009, 06:42:06 PM
It looks good.  The only concern I would have from watching that trailer is that the writer may be going for yet another retelling of occurrence at owl creek.  Hollywood loves to trot out a retelling of that story every single friggin' year, put a new name on it, then try to convince everyone that it's high brow entertainment (a la Jacob's Ladder).   I hope I'm wrong though.
7617  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Elder Scrolls: The Novels on: April 27, 2009, 06:28:20 PM
They should make a whole series of young adult books set in the Elder Scrolls universe.  They could get the writer who does the Twilight series.  Man, that would rock...
7618  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Best Buy $10 game sale on: April 27, 2009, 05:41:50 PM
<sigh>  I went to BB near my office at lunch and they had a copy of Silent Hill, Fracture, Pure and Universe at War so I bought those too.  My god, what is wrong with me that I can't resist buying mediocre (for the most part) games when they're priced at 10 bucks???

Anyway, I know what you mean about some games getting horrid reviews but still being somewhat fun.  I fired up Operation Darkness last night and loved it (other than the horrid camera and the ps2 level graphics).  Then I tried Jericho and Infinite Undiscovery and quite liked those as well.  However, Warhammer was not something I'll probably play after trying for 10 minutes to understand the rather frustrating control scheme.
7619  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox 360: Operation Darkness on: April 27, 2009, 02:25:25 PM
Picked this up at the BB 9.99 clearance sale yesterday.  If it weren't for that dang camera and the subpar graphics, this would be a fantastic game.   I'm still playing it, but this could easily have been a gem if they'd just spent a bit more time on it.  The missed potential just makes me wanna scream in anger.   icon_mad

I was pleasantly surprised that my local BB wasn't swamped with buyers this morning.  I managed to snag:

Infinite Undiscovery
Alone in the Dark
Operation Darkness

They're all games I was interested in, but not more than 10 dollars worth of interested in.   icon_biggrin

P.S.  I went back about an hour and a half later because I forgot to look for Silent Hill and the friggin' stands were picked clean.  There was absolutely nothing left.  I then drove over to another one about 6 miles away and they're shelves were also bare.  The hoarders must have swooped in after I left the store the first time.   icon_eek

I'm going to run over and check my BB when they open, however I'm telling myself that nothing will still be available so i don't get too disappointed when I arrive only to discover that every single game has been snapped up by employees and people who purchased them before today and plan on price matching the sale this week.   icon_frown

thanks for not picking on my cluelessness, turtle.   icon_biggrin

i haven't ordered my starter kits yet (since I'm the only one who has expressed any real interest in this game, I'll probably need to order enough for another person to play), so I'll drop by my local gameshop tonight and take a look at some 28mm figures to see if it's going to be too much for these old eyes/hands.  If it looks to be too daunting a task, I'll order them and have a friend who's an old warhammer player assemble/paint them and pay him back with his own set.

Very nice!  I'm still digesting, and loving, the rules.  Please excuse my ignorance, but my experience with miniatures is very limited.  I'm about to order a couple starter sets and I notice that the sets come with arms, heads, etc.. I realize I have to assemble them, but is this difficult to do for an inexperienced player?  Do I use some form of epoxy?  Or do they snap together?  Again, sorry for the dumb questions.   icon_redface

I'm probably going to attend Gencon on Thursday and Friday, so I'll make sure to check out their vendor booth.  I just wish they had zombies in the game.  That would be the weird war trifecta for me!

The Secrets of the Third Reich includes a few things that appeal to me (the aforementioned zombies, vampires and customizable mechs...along with what appears to be almost an rpg like rules variant).  I'll have to look into the upcoming AE stuff to see if they've added some of that stuff.

I picked up the rulebook this afternoon.  So far I'm diggin' it.  Just need to order some starter sets now.  Who do you folks order your minis from?  oh, and turtle, you mention the druids but I thought they were only in the occult expansion, which doesn't seem to be out yet.  is that coming soon?

I have fond memories of playing this into the wee hours of many a night.  However, it eventually became just a grief fest for high level kiddies who'd camp outside cities and take down anyone they saw...even if that person was 20 or 30 levels below them.  It got so bad that new players couldn't level up outside the starting area unless they had escorts to take them everywhere.

Ultimate Alliance, which I did get on PC, was a fun bash-em up but it's not terribly deep.

My vote for best damned superhero game ever made.  I really wish they'd do another one.
