Swerving away from the topic of my genitals, I was briefly a theater minor in college.  One of the acting teachers used to regale us with stories about some theater troupe he'd worked with years ago that went around hitting folks with a pillow.  They labeled it "art" because they were supposedly trying to get a reaction out of their audience.  I always thought that was rather stupid.  Getting a reaction with a physical act is easy, getting one without such a base visceral component, to me, is art.

If I show up without pants to a showing, would the resulting audience disgust be an artistic endeavor?  I know it would be a HUGE endeavor, but artistic?

Well, I went with the 360 version because I sometimes want to play this style of game from my couch, instead of in my computer room.  There's something to be said about lounging around on your back while killing Kobolds.   icon_biggrin

Tried connecting up to it yesterday and it doesn't work for me.  Keeps telling me "Whoops. Please make sure your XBOX or STEAM privacy settings on their Web-sites are set to public. Once changed, your data will correct itself within 24 hours."

I checked and I am set to allow everyone to view my account, so I'm not sure what that's all about.   icon_confused

edit:  nm...deleting and adding my account info back in seems to have given it the kick it needed.

The only thing I know for sure is that the 360 version isn't using the high rez pack that came with the PC collector's edition.  So the graphics aren't up to that standard.  If you're not using the high rez pack then you won't notice any graphical differences, i've been told.  The only other difference I'm curious about is content related.  It seems that the PC version has received quite a few updates since its release and I don't know if that content found its way into the 360 version.

That being said, the game world is so freakin' huge that I doubt I'd ever get around to seeing that new content if it was included.  I've put in about 6 hours so far since Saturday on one character and he's only seen about 5 percent of the world.   icon_eek  Leveling is just right, too.  I hit 12 last night.  With a cap of 200, I can see this one is gonna have legs.

That was one of the better comedies on television.
Its ratings were low on NBC's best night. It couldn't hang. Not NBC's fault. Plus it sucked. Well OK not sucked, but there's only so much one can stand hearing the word, "karma."

For a lot of folks, the fact that you thought it sucked is proof that it actually was funny.

Thanks to all who helped me with my buff activation issue.  It was simply due to my having a buff already active.  By selecting it again, I can deactivate and then activate another one.

I'm still lovin' the game, too.  It really does play like a Diablo MMO.  I've got 4 characters going at once now and I can't make up my mind which one I want to stick with.   icon_confused

The SW is a strong character who can use tons of different loot.  The TG is just cool.  The IN has some great spells.  And the Dryad is fun for ranged.

I'm not sexist, but if they'd have included the ability to change your character's sex, I would have been happier.  I just get into the game more when the character I'm playing doesn't have breasts.   icon_biggrin

Also, I'm still having trouble reading the quest arrows on the mini-map on my HDTV from across the room.  But that's probably more due to my aging eyes.  If they had the ability to increase the mini-map size it would've helped.

I'm not sure (because I didn't do the quick google search) what Ebert thinks about him, but I don't watch Almovodar films for the same reason. I find them bleak for the same of being bleak. But that isn't to say I don't like sad movies, or even dark movies. Let The Right One In is one of my favorites, but it isn't empty in its misery. L.A. Confidential shows the worst of humanity, and in the end nobody wins, but it again show me a part of humanity that I really want to see explored, even if it is a hopeless view.

I certainly appreciate the fine work that Van Triers and Almovodar do, but it just isn't for me.

Well now you spoiled L.A. Confidential for me!  I was expecting a happy ending. frown

and mytocles (and any others) ive been playing a ton of this game, and while im far from having it all figured out (particularly some of the skill and item stuff) i do have a decent idea of whats going on so if you want help and see me on send out an invite!

Don't you have to activate a buff?  or does slotting it make it active automatically?

Not a surprise but I will sit this one out.

Quote
Some audience members recoiled at the film's relentless tension and almost unbearably explicit scenes of violence, including genital mutilation.

"I thought I had my head down a lavatory, frankly," said Baz Bamigboye of Britain's Daily Mail, the journalist who asked von Trier to justify his film.

"I've defended his movies in the past," Bamigboye said after the news conference. "'Dogville' was hated. I defended his right to make that film, and I defend his right to make this film. But he still has to explain why he made it and what it represents."

I'm not surprised at your non-surprise of sitting this one out. If it's not a Disney film about a family running happily thru the European countryside singing 'the sound of music' you won't watch it.  Tongue

Would adding a naked Willem Dafoe help this film you describe? All it takes is a phone call and bus fare, apparently.

I heard that it's the most successful franchise reboot, beating out Batman Begins, Superman Returns and whatever else.

Hopefully it doesn't lead to the death of the franchise like Superman Returns seems to have done.

I've been playing with a Shadow Warrior and I hit lvl 6 last night (after starting and playing about 3 other characters).  I'm trying to specialize in Astral Lord so I took the Astral Lord focus and gave it 3 skill points.  Then I bought a rune for Nether Allegiance from a runemaster.  The combat art is available on my list of combat arts (meaning it's not greyed out in the list), but when I slot it it's not available to use.  Anyone have an idea what's going on?   icon_confused

That being said, and this is meant totally without any kind of offense in mind, I doubt most americans will like it, since its REALLY not the type of movie you'r used to seeing. Whats going on is NOT obvious, lots of things are being left unsaid, and he doesnt play on effects, but mostly on human drama, and the depths to which humans can move themselves

No offense, but we gave the world Orson Welles, Lee Strasberg, David Mamet, the Coen brothers and a whole slew of great filmmakers/directors and screenwriters.  I don't think the American audience as a whole consists of people who can't understand subtlety or nuance in a film.

Quote
I'm a staunch defender of the auteur theory. Some of the best films ever made have been made by auteurs: Coppola, P T Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Luis Bunuel, Alfred Hitchcock, etc. This is how I operate as a filmmaker. You seem to be calling for 'populist filmmaking' here, hepcat. Nothing wrong with that.. But making films that appeal to large, low-common-denominator audiences ain't my thing. That style of filmmaking is fine for summer movies, but not all movies can be this way. I don't know if 'Anti-Christ' is any damn good, but I gotta stick up for Von Trier here.

If it's successful and it touches an audience then it's not really a vanity project, which is what I'm complaining about.  You can make a film that's personal and still touch on universal themes, or you can make a film that is filled with really bad writing and blame the audience for not getting it.  I haven't seen this film but from some of the reviews it seems like he created something that is just that.

I love the defense that some filmmakers fall back on when their "vision" is ill-received that they made it for themselves and they don't care what the audience thinks.  If you make a film solely for yourself, don't be too surprised when the inevitable lack of context causes your audience to scratch their head and wonder what the hell is going on.

I picked it up yesterday after trading in a bunch of old games I had finished.  While I certainly understand and agree with the assessment that this game has a pretty awful story, I still enjoy it for what it is:  a hack'n'slash with tons of loot.

By the way, are the light and shadow campaigns different enough to warrant a replay with a different character?  I'm torn between the inquisitor, the shadow warrior and the temple guard and I'd love to be able to play two of them, but I don't want to if it's simply going to be the same campaign for the most part.

I've been keeping up with the show only because I'm incredulous as to why they keep renewing it.  It is, imho, one of the worst shows on television at this point.  They continuously butcher a comic book icon with seeming glee each and every episode, but that's a distant issue compared to the level of bad writing.  It's like watching a train wreck...I can't look away because it is so terrible.  Right now I put this in the same category as According to Jim in my book of "why in the hell do they keep renewing this?"   icon_eek

I'm really surprised at how much I enjoyed this season of Lost.  I had all but given up on it after the first season as it seemed to just ramble on without a point.  Establishing a definitive end date for the show seems to have reinvigorated the writers, though.

I don't believe that temporal towers stack, but I've noticed that they pulse at different times, depending on when they're built.  Therefore two of them will oftentimes catch the racers that sometimes slip through between the pulse of a single temporal tower.
