She (was) a man, baby!

Spoiler for Hiden:
seriously?  I know I saw a scar, but didn't really think of that.  Weird.  I know there were conversations from Eli asking Oskar would he like her if she was a man, but I really didn't really see anything else to suggest that

Spoiler for Hiden:
The book that was the source for the movie gives a much more detailed history of Eli's past.  Look it up on amazon and read some of the reader reviews to get more info.  I don't want to ruin the book for you if you're planning on ever reading it.

Whoo hoo, finally got into an online skirmish game last night.  Took freakin' forever, but eventually it found some players and away I went...

...and died...

...then died again...

...finally figured out why i was dying so quickly...then died.

....realized i was wrong about why i was dying...and died again.

finally, the other team just put us out of our misery and finished off our fortresses.

final scores were ridiculously disparate.  damage of 162344 vs. 12 or something.

god, it was embarrassing.   icon_redface

i'm confused about favor points, though.  before i started the game, i had close to 400 favor points from single player tournaments.  after the online game, i had MINUS 740??  do you lose favor points if you do badly?

I will forgive you a great many things, but do not insult the great Adam Baldwin again.  I don't want to have to release these photos....

p.s.  I don't give the original Doomsday stories much love to begin with, so that may play into my lack of outrage when comparing the comic book source to the animated version.  I thought the death of Superman was an incredibly cheap, badly written attempt to cash in on multiple foil covers and derivative heroes who didn't require much thought to create and market (Steel, Superboy, etc.).

I'm confused about the friend's list.  I added a few folks last night and they appear in the Impulse friend's list outside of the game, but when I'm in Demigod they don't appear on my friend's list in the overlay.

Here's my setup:

I have an impulse account under the name hepcat1 that i can log into using the hepcat1 username, or the email address i used for the account.  both will show me the same "hepcat1" account name when logging in with either.

When i'm in the game, I created a profile called "hepcat" and then logged in with the email address as the username.

Am I doing something wrong?

The presentation of the joke was what I found funny.  Not that he simply made fun of it.  Adopted Hollywood babies are old hat, true.  But also remember that this was being filmed when a lot of that stuff was just happening.

I can't believe all the hate towards this episode. Brian's declaration about being an Atheist "That's just about the worst thing a person can be." Making him fetch the cross. The news cast outing Brian "Worse than Hitler!" and "I would rather have a terrorist living in town. At least they believe in god, even if it is the brown smelly kind."   icon_lol

Taking the Star Trek crew around town and dealing with their bickering, mundane comments "I have to pee" was funny. Problems at the drive-up window, wanting to use nick names at the bowling alley, I don't know, but I found this stuff funny. It was a great demonstration of Stewie thinking it would be awesome to have these people to hang out with and really they're just like a normal family.

I thought it was pretty funny.  Too bad it's trendy to "hate" Family Guys these days.

Not trendy, simply reality.  Family Guy stopped being funny after the 12,387th pop culture reference presented as "comedy".  I have the first two seasons on dvd and enjoyed them.  Then season 3 came along with pretty much the same thing, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (sorry, I thought I was writing a family guy episode there for a second)  Tongue

Now i tune in every few months, see yet another joke they've beat to death and quiety turn it off.

Bingo.  Pushing a joke too far is funny.

Once...maybe twice.  But pushing it too far more than that usually means you don't have anything else that's funny.

The odd thing is that outside of Family Guy, Seth can be a funny dude.  I find American Dad fairly entertaining.  It just seems like he's been phoning it in for Family Guy for quite some time now.

7391  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Firefly's Capt. Mal's new show..Castle on: April 01, 2009, 01:51:05 PM
The show is utterly ridiculous (letting a civilian interrogate a suspect?  try getting THAT confession to stick in a court of law.), full of holes you could fly Serenity through...and still have room for the Enterprise, and completely addictive.

And it's all due to Fillion.  The guy's hilarious.  I don't watch the show for a cohesive story or a challenging plot, I watch it in the same way I watch Monk...it's a character driven series that derives 99.9 percent of its charm from one person.

Man, I just never *got* Farscape.  I know people loved it and I watched two seasons thinking it would get better but I eventually just gave up.  It's like it was designed by a committee or something:

"We'll start off with puppets and add a blue-skinned mystical lady and a Wookie then an astronaut and a smart-alecky lady with a big nose and a thief!  We need a thief!  And then we'll have a bad guy in S&M clothing who has to insert this tube into his head and the ship will be alive and then..."

I just got tired of all the random crap they kept throwing at me.  I wish the show had some focus, some cohesiveness that tied it all together.  Maybe that happened in season 3 but I was burned out by that point.

Since that level of extrapolation can be applied to anything, that's not really an argument:

"well, you got the a bad guy in black who is really a tragic figure, then you have his son who is a good guy but doesn't know he's the son of the bad guy, then you got a smart alec thief ...you ALWAYS have to have the thief...who has a heart of gold...." - star wars

"well, you got the son of a supreme being who dies in order to save everyone else, then you have a guy who betrays him who really likes wine..."  - the bible

and i completely disagree that the show was unfocused and incohesive.  there was also an overall theme that tied it together (john trying to survive outside his own world).  it made perfect sense to many folks...and i wouldn't consider any of them stupid.

I recently watched this after hearing about the twist in the story.  I have to say, out of all the french horror films I've seen over the last couple of years, this was my favorite.  Yes, it's gory (and unflinchingly so at times), but it's not as gratuitous as its peers.  I think that's because the visceral aspects of the movie make sense in the context of the film.  It's like a thinking version of Hostel (if that's possible  icon_wink).

Is it a movie I'd recommend?  Probably not to anyone who doesn't like horror films.  But for those of us who enjoy a creepy time I think it's the right combo of smarts and scares.
