I'm confused as to why there are two EQ2 bundles, both of which say they have all 4 expansion packs, but the one that seems like it would have the fewer packs is more expensive.

I saw that too.  I think it's a mistake.  As far as I know, sony online releases each expansion for EQ2 with all previous expansions included..or at least they have for the last few.
7362  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Steam Weekend MMO sale on: June 12, 2009, 07:46:04 PM
EQ2 is EQ lite, from what I've heard.  I played EQ2 for quite some time, but never really played the first EQ.  I enjoyed it.  My only complaint was that the combat wasn't as tight as WoW or LotR.  What I mean by that is that there was always a disconnect from the actual blows.  You could fire an arrow at a distant mob, but standing on the edge of your bow's range didn't mean much since usually the mob would just warp to your spot before you got a game determined number of shots off.  In WoW and LotR, it seems that the combat is more interactive...even though I'm sure it's probably not.

other than that, there's tons of content, a huge number of different classes, multiple starting zones, and a healthy crafting system.  I'm not a big fan of the armor/weapon bonuses because it's one of those games that gives practically imperceptible bonuses for special items.

still, the amount of stuff you're getting, combined with the fact that you're getting it all for less than the cost of a month's subscription, makes it a pretty easy choice for any fan of MMO's.  Unfortunately, since I've already subscribed to EQ2 in the past, I'm not eligible for the 30 days free unless I want to lose the characters I played with when I originally subscribed.

EQ2 with all the expansion packs (including the latest), adventure packs and base game for 9.99?

In!

Doomed, all kidding aside, I really suggest you talk to someone.  The tin foil over the windows thing is something a friend of mine did when he was going through the darkest part of clinical depression.  If nothing else, talk to your physician.  he/she can suggest a good mental health counselor.
7365  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [trailer] Moon on: June 12, 2009, 03:45:37 PM
Doomed, I have a few questions for you.  Please answer truthfully.

1) Have you ever purchased a van and covered the entire interior in sound proofing material and carpeting?

2) Do you have a windowless room in your house whose door you've hidden behind a bookshelf?

3) Do you ever find yourself watching Silence of the Lambs and nodding your head a lot?

If you've answered yes to any of the above questions, I would like to announce that I actually don't live in Chicago.  I live in Denmark.

Aiming with a gun can be either free aim or lock on if you use the left trigger.  flicking the stick to the left or right while locked on to a target will quickly switch to another, nearby target.

I can't imagine that playing Burnout (or any racing game) that way would be even the least bit enjoyable.  The steering wheel is an essential, tactile component of a driving game, imho.

Ah, I remember you and I playing MP in DA one once or twice.  I really do enjoy the Agent/Merc mode and I hope Conviction includes a healthy MP upgrade.  If so, we need to get a GT game night going for that.

Just typed up a whole lot of impressions...and promptly erased them by accident.  Damn compatibility view mode.   mad

Anyway, to sum it up after 2 hours of play:

It's The Hulk Ultimate Destruction and Spiderman 2/3/Web of Shadows.  If you liked those games, you'll love this one.

The powers are great and varied.  The events give out EP to buy upgrades and powers, so they're useful.

Missions are multiple part.

I thought the game was going to be easy at first...until it stopped being easy.  Having claw hands and superstrength means diddly squat to a rocket launcher.

I think the current ratio of vehicles is 1200 cab drivers to 5 non cab drivers in the game city.  You think I'm kidding?  Just look around.  I stopped in a busy intersection and counted 17 cabs and 1 mini van at one point.

Dennis Hopper plays Dennis Hopper in every movie he makes.  While sitting on his deluxe-o throne on that friggin' waterboat of his, I fully expected him to yell out ""Heineken? F*#k that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!"" at least once...

I don't get this line of argument against SBC. There's a long tradition of humor that's based on humilliating or embarrasing hapless people. I don't think it's wrong. SBC does it in such a smart, confrontational way. Most of the people in 'Borat' really deserved to have their chains yanked.

Which is fine, nobody is saying you can't do it.  But not everyone enjoys that kind of humor, just like not everyone enjoys Eddie Murphy or Katt Williams or any other comedian you could name.  I'm sure part of it is based on life experiences.

Personally I'm not a big fan of SBC, for the same reasons as Hepcats friend.  It strikes me as high school behavior, where everyone laughs but the kid that's the butt of the joke.  And those kids don't usually look back on that as a humorous experience if they feel like they were humiliated.  Not all of SBC's stuff crosses that line, but some of it does.

but those of us doing the humiliating look back on those moments and laugh our asses off...then we have a diet coke and watch 24.

It was at the student center of my college when I was a junior as part of some midnight movie festival.  not first run, for god's sake!  bad played about 3 weeks later as part of that same festival.  so i had both of my "walking out of a movie" experiences pretty close together.  now, i'm old enough to just go "well, this sucks.  nap time." and i'm out like a light until an usher knocks over my walker while cleaning up.

My only complaint is that I was hoping the first one would continue adding campaigns.  If they're jumping into a sequel this quickly, I doubt we'll see any new story content for the first game.  If they continue this pace, then the sequel will have that issue as well.
