You can't give us the incredibly great Nightcrawler in X2 and then take him away in X3.  You just can't, for cryin' out loud.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a DS pretty much just for Jagged Alliance (if the reviews are good).

edit:  wait...the fallout 3 dlc broken steel is coming out this week???
7325  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Demigod on: May 04, 2009, 04:38:31 PM
I try to avoid day one purchases as well, but I tend to let that rule become more of a suggestion when it comes to developers/distributors I trust.  Steam and Stardock being two of them as I have no doubt that they'll do their hardest to fix any issues that might pop up (Stardock being the more reliable of the two as Brad himself will dive in and work on stuff). Am I disappointed in the MP and favor points problems that have plagued the game since release?  Of course I am.  However, I look at this way:  I put money in the pockets of a small developer (in comparison to studios like EA and Microsoft) who actually cares about their products and will work to fix them.  I'm willing to live with that.

While I appreciate the half off coupons in an effort to up the playerbase, it does make me a bit miffed as an early buyer.  Basically, by buying on day 1, I had the joy of having an MP focused game with serious connectivity issues.  Had I waited, I would have had far fewer issues, and been able to get a code for 50% off from a friend.  Remind me, why did I buy on day 1 again?

hindsight is always 20/20.

If I alt-tab out of a game to my desktop, I'm actually surprised if everything still works when I alt-tab back.   icon_biggrin

As for the status update, that's why I may get disappointed from time to time with Stardock, but also why I always come back to them.  They fess up to their mistakes and they handle them.  Then they go the extra mile.  That means a lot in my book.

We should get a list together of folks who need/want the 20 dollar demigod coupons so we can get as many GT folks into the game as possible.

They had it on Xbox Live video marketplace for a while.  Still might.  But they were charging like full movie theater ticket price for it and I wasn't about to pay that much for a film that badly rated.

In other news, I bought the revamped board/mini game at Gencon last year from the FFG booth....only to find out 9 months later that they are dropping the game due to poor sales.    icon_mad

Could on mine.. problem is that it would say IN FUNGI E when I was disinterested.

So you have a pool stick that actually grows and shrinks depending on the level of attention you're paying to a pool game?  My god, that would be cool.  You'd be like a watered down version of Midnight Eye Goku

Closing Comments
Velvet Assassin could have been an interesting take on World War II by highlighting a facet of the conflict that's rarely covered by gaming. While it does bring in the secret agent angle, it also brings in a story that's completely thin and unsupported. Even worse, Assassin features flawed stealth action elements that can ruin the gameplay when they go awry, and only point out the hit-or-miss nature of the mechanics when they work well. If you need a stealth action experience, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

Usually if it dips that low in a review, it will rate fairly low across the board.  Too bad though, it sounded interesting.

Spoiler for Hiden:
SL, I didn't (and still don't) see any signs that anything other than Oskar feeling like he wasn't wanted by his father was going on in that scene.  He left because he felt like he didn't belong.  That's a constant theme with Oskar.  Also, the director himself basically stated that there was no intention of any homosexual overtones in that scene.  While I don't recall that the director ever explicitly stated that Oskar's dad is an alcoholic, it's a fairly easy jump to make considering the almost embarrassed looks he gives his son as he sets out the booze.  Also, sorry if I came across as insulting in my reply at any point.  That was not my intent.

One thing I didn't get- that ties into the whole pedophelia thing- is the odd occurrence of the visitor at oskar's dad's house.  Was he (the dad) setting oskar up to be raped?

Any way, glad they played down the pedophelia angles, as if I had caught on to that I probably would have turned it off.

Overall solid film.

Spoiler for Hiden:
In an interview with the director, he noted that some people thought that Oskar's dad was gay because of that scene.  The director said that was not his intention at all.  So I doubt that was what going on.  I believe it was intended to show that Oskar's dad liked his liquor more than his son.

Regardless, I'll probably see her this weekend and discuss the situation.  A big deal about nothing.  My biggest problem was with my wife's demands and orders.

I think it's best to swallow your pride in this instance.  Your wife will admire you for it and she may purchase a new pool stick or other pool related item for you as a sign of her gratitude.

Conversely she may see this as a sign of weakness and attack.  I'm not sure how it's going to play out, but I'm fairly certain I want it videotaped.

can't post the link since I am on my phone, but I read a CDC report on the swine flu outbreak at Fort Dix in 1976. Looks like this one is similiar. Also read that this is a H1N1 Strain that is similiar to the normal human flu.

Lastly, I think the 'overreaction' is a good thing. It should help keep this from blowing up out of control, and keep us better prepared for when the big one does come.

There's a discussion going on at OO over this, as well.  One thing that DOES make it very different than normal strains of flu is that it includes animal genes, which makes natural immunity in humans very, very rare.

A side note but I hate it when people go places with their dog.....

This always surprises me and momentarily makes me feel guilty because my dogs never leave the house/yard except for their daily 2 mile walks. I don't take them to dog parks (too scared of disease and inattentive dog owners with their overly aggressive dogs) or to go visit other people's homes. I would be too paranoid about them doing something destructive.

I'm a huge dog lover, but I completely understand that sentiment.  Whenever I've had dogs, I've always been hesitant to take them to another's house as I'd be incredibly embarrassed if they decided to do something nasty on the carpet.

I hate to admit, but I'm incredibly sensitive to body language and tone.  It is with great remorse that I have to say I sympathize with this person.  She may be wrong, but short of confronting her and forcing her to seek out the therapy she needs to develop a thicker skin, you're going to have to deal with this situation as long as she's your wife's friend.

...which brings up a potential solution, if you're willing.  Steal some of this woman's clothing and leave it scattered around your bedroom when your wife's away.  When she comes home, quickly kick this clothing under the bed while whistling and looking at the ceiling.  There's a very good chance that this Dana person will soon be UNinvited to any social events.

of course, you're probably going to lose a testicle in the process.  but it may be worth it if this person is troubling you as much as it seems.
