PS3 people dont play MP games?  eek Or, do you mean people here?

I think he means that the majority of folks on GT seem to have 360's when compared to the PS3 owners.

Ah, the "I know you are, but what am I" gambit.  Well played.   icon_lol

And the reason my arguments are being kept simple is because your original post was a kneejerk reaction to a critic disliking something you enjoyed.  Since then, you've done nothing to merit rising above that level.  Especially after reading that whole "they're not running from explosions....bombs are just appearing behind them and they just happen to be running in a different direction" line of reasoning.

After reading your posts I agree that you seem to throw alot of smiley faces around without actually saying anything of substance.

Oh.  I guess I shoud add  icon_biggrin

as i intimated earlier, substance has never been introduced at any point in our exchange...nor have you changed that with your addition.  cheeba's argument was that ebert was "stupid" and that he lied about the action in the film.  Unfortunately, his reasons for arguing this were limited to the lame semantics of explosions argument and some assertions that the plot wasn't incomprehensible because he understood it...which misses the point Ebert was trying to make that the story, while it might be easy to follow, was something he felt was still gibberish.

add something to the debate if you feel that that the current one doesn't meet your standards.  otherwise, you're simply guilty of the crime for which you're accusing others.

p.s. the only post i took umbrage with was cheeb's when he decided that Ebert was "stupid".  i actually agreed with you at one point and have frequently said that if you like the film, that's all that matters.

...did you watch the movie or are you just judging it by the commercials? They had bombs exploding behind them, but they were not outrunning anything. They were just running away from the target as bombs kept dropping in a line (as bombs tend to do).

The great thing about being a professional "critic" is that there is no right or wrong opinion.  Ebert hated Transformers 2 but enough people liked it for it to gross $300 million.  Does that make him wrong?  No. But apparently a lot of movie goers disagreed with him.

The funny thing is when Ebert or the USA Today pans a movie it means nothing to me when it comes to summer action movies.  I am paying to be entertained.  Not to fuss over people out running explosions or counting bullets between reloads.

This I can agree with.   icon_wink

If you liked it, that's all that matters.  My stepfather called on the 4th to tell me how much he enjoyed Transformers 2, but everything he said about the film only served to reinforce my belief that it's a movie i may one day catch on dvd...but only if I've exhausted all other options.  But I was happy that he had fun, so my opinion is just that...an opinion.

I comprehended the plot pretty quickly and easily.  Apparently I'm just a whole bunch smarter than Ebert.

Or you're just perfectly happy not having to think when the projector starts.  Everyone who enjoyed it pretty much agrees it was mindless fun.  You're one of those rare folks trying to defend the story, it seems.   icon_lol

How moronic. I don't care if he doesn't agree with me.

They never outran explosions.

They sure did in the commercials.

Liking vs. disliking is one thing. I'm perfectly OK with someone disliking the movie. You just gotta be able to formulate a coherent argument about it. This time, Ebert did not.

We like what we like.  To try and defend those prejudices by blaming others when they don't agree is just ridiculous.

We should simply blame CeeKay as he has been the official GT scapegoat since the late 90's.

What a bunch of narcissistic crap from Ebert. It would be a better argument if he hadn't outright lied or intentionally misrepresented the action in Transformers 2 in his review.

He's a crotchety old man in love with himself and especially in love with his own words. His closed-minded, dated view on video games (they can never be art) shows that he has evolved poorly.

I think he's one of the more open minded reviewers of genre films out there.  He loved Aliens and called it one of the best action films he's ever seen, so he's able to accept popular entertainment at the level it's intended.   Just because he doesn't agree with you on everything doesn't mean that his point is dated or wrong...it just means he doesn't agree with you.  Something adults learn to accept eventually.

I wasn't really impressed with Caprica either, to be honest.  It wasn't the religious overtones so much as the virtual reality crap that annoyed me.  That's something that really, really needs to die off as a story device.
7336  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Torchwood: Children of the Earth on: July 07, 2009, 04:47:17 AM
Let me take a stab at guessing what happens:

Everyone in the cast displays bisexual tendencies because the writer believes this is 1955 and that's shocking.

Jack will pose repeatedly.

Someone will mention the Doctor at least once in passing.

The main villain will use sex in some manner because, as mentioned earlier, the writer believes it will be rad cool!

I kept tuning into the show, waiting for it to hit its stride...to get better.  But it just never did (to me).  Jack is great in small doses, but he acts for the stage not the small screen.  Everything he does is WAY overdramatic.  And the stories are just lackluster.  They need an overhaul in both characters and writers.

EDIT:actually do you guys have commercials during Family Guy?...Family Guy is on BBC3 here,so no commercials so that might be why it felt less than an hour

Have you tried using them yet?  I'm just curious because I've been checking out the thread on cheapassgamer for this deal and there's a lot of speculation that the seller (who is apparently some college student) is either using stolen credit card numbers to buy them from Microsoft (which would be really too stupid to believe since he's using his real name supposedly...so I'm not believing this theory), buying them at liquidation prices off Circuit City or some other bankrupt entity/troubled retailer (believable, I suppose), or he's just buying them up with his own credit card in a ponzi-like manner.

7351  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [HBO] Hung starts tonight on: June 30, 2009, 07:30:14 PM
I think Weeds has followed a pretty logical course.  If you're going to sell drugs, you're eventually going to come across criminals.  If you try to sell larger amounts of drugs, you're going to meet larger (and more dangerous) criminals.  The show clearly displays this progression...albeit with a somewhat darkly comic twist.  But it's never going to be The Wire, if that's what you were expecting.

As for Hung, I was pleasantly surprised.  Thomas Jane earned my respect for his appearances on Arrested Development and his resume of (mostly) decent films.  In this show, he gets a chance to show his acting chops.  As for the story, his anguish over the state of his life felt organic and not at all like a plot device (with the exception of the scene in which he walks towards the hotel door, mentally listing all these great earlier achievements...I would have preferred a little less in that list to make his plight all the more poignant).  It clicked and I believed it.

Also, the kids and the ex wife not being played by male/female models was a nice touch.  It added an everyman feel to it.
