Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon Kindle: Kindle Fire, Touch and Keyboard unveiled! Lending Unleashed!

So my dad got a Kindle Touch and it's just absurdly slow. You click the shopping cart, and fifteen seconds later it starts to load Amazon. You click the search bar, and five seconds later the keyboard shows up. You click the a, three seconds later an a appears, etc. Often times after showing a search result, if I want to hit the back button the entire thing becomes completely unresponsive and I have to hit the home button and start the process anew. Doing anything aside from actually reading a book on this thing is just a chore.
Resetting the system makes it slightly more responsive for a while but I really hope they release an update that fixes this shit soon. So far my impression is: I'd rather have a Nook. Or an iPad. Or a netbook. Or a laptop. Or an actual book...

$10 Logitech keyboard with The Wizard of Oz test. I could boost the score ten or fifteen AWPM but their applet is acting squirrely in Firefox for me right now and shifting text around as it scrolls. And also, I don't wanna. :b

And it was. I updated VideoDownloader and NoScript and the problem is solved. NoScript was probably to blame.
All is well!
edit - All is not well! Turns out when I first start the browser and search from the address bar it works fine, but if I make a new tab and search from that address bar it doesn't! Disabling TabMixPlus solves the issue, though.

If that link works then your DNS server is having issues with it. If it doesn't, then there's a genuine problem somewhere between you and the Qt3 server.
If your DNS server is having issues you can change it to something else.
Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Your Internet Connection > Properties > TCP/IP > Properties > Use The Following DNS Server
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are Google's DNS servers, for instance. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 are the OpenDNS servers.

Can't you always sell Collector's Editions on eBay a year later for twice what you paid for them when it comes to Blizzard games? I don't have the money to spend on it, and I have no interest in buying Diablo 3 in any case, but I probably would otherwise for that reason alone.

I haven't had it enabled in years. If you back up your stuff and aren't averse to the idea of reformatting in the event of total catastrophe then I see little point in keeping it on.
I really can't remember the last time one of my installs got to the point where I needed to reformat, anyway. I got a piece of malware on here once but I was able to clean it up easily enough with Malwarebytes. Any other kind of issue I've ever had could be fixed manually. I struggle to think of a situation where system restore would be vital to me.
That said, most people should probably keep it enabled on the off chance that it could save them from some grief. Its performance impact and HDD usage is probably of little concern to most with modern hardware.

On here, Defraggler colors the page file tan, though. It could very well be system restore files. I don't have system restore enabled so I couldn't say for sure, but looking around it appears that they are stored as randomly numbered files and folders similar to that (x:\system volume information\_restore{558C94FD-3C7F-4954-A02D-26679E6D849E}).
Disabling system restore and then re-enabling it should get rid of them so that space can be defragmented if you want.

Are you guys sure your page file isn't part of the fragmentation you're seeing? You can disable it, reboot, defrag, and then re-enable it if that's the case.

You can try turning it on and off manually.
XP - Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Print Spooler
Whenever my printer screws up the first thing I do is unplug its power source and then wait a few seconds before plugging it back in. That usually clears up the failed jobs.

Inverter probably. Sometimes the inverter can shut the monitor off if one of the back lights is on the fritz, though, so that could be the issue as well.
When you turn your monitor on, do you get a picture for a few seconds and then it shuts off, or does it shut off immediately? If it's not immediate, are you sure you're checking the screen with the flashlight while it's on?

I have a tote full of PC Gamer as well. My first issue was January 99 which I bought off the stand. I'd been playing PC games off and on since the late 80s but that issue blew me away. I bought Half-Life shortly thereafter and the rest is history.

Yeah it's probably going to be a very rough night for Rampage. Jones has a reach advantage of almost twelve inches and he has displayed far more versatility in his striking game. Jones is also a very strong wrestler, so Rampage may find it difficult to even fall back on that if things aren't going his way.
I think Rampage needs to rush in and try to end it quickly. The only advantage Rampage can really bring to Bones is his raw punching power and durability. I very highly doubt he's going to outpoint Jones on the feet, and I don't see him doing much to Jones on the ground, if he can even get him there in the first place.
I can't imagine Hughes beating Koscheck at this point in their careers, but stranger things have happened.
