Awesome. I've been waiting forever for a good dino FPS. Though it sounds like it's heavily MP favored and I would have greatly preferred something more along the lines of Trespasser. Here's hoping it doesn't have some terrible DRM.

The "DRM" as it's being called with C&C4, isn't really DRM.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

off topic, but did you encounter a bug in the PC version that prevented you from going past the 3rd or 4th level? it was something like a missing platform in one of the sewers. HOW ANNOYING THAT WAS

I was 4-7 years old at the time and I could never even get beyond Rocksteady (the encounter right at the end of the first level and before the dam). Hey what can I say, I sucked at games back then.

Of course, it ran pretty poorly (I used an 80/88 with CGA graphics at the time), and it really isn't an easy game to begin with. Fond memories, though...

I think.
324  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PC GAMERS! LEND ME YOUR CODEWHEELS! on: March 10, 2010, 03:57:45 PM
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles also had the burgundy code book with black font. It contained hundreds of four digit codes set up in a grid and you needed to look them up to launch the game.

And yes, like an idiot, I too got rid of it. I'm also not having much luck tracking down a picture of it. Sorry...

Four maps for $7?

You're telling me people will actually pay $7 for four multiplayer maps? For a game they just paid $50 for not one month ago?

Gaming is fucked.

As far as which one to play, you install both and just use the Immortal Throne link to start up.  That gives you the enhanced experience through the original chapters and then leads seamlessly to the very large final chapter.

D'oh! I just got the gold edition and played all the way through the first two acts, and a couple quests in Asia using the regular Titan Quest shortcut...

Still, I've been having a lot of fun with this. My Warfare/Defense build is working out well so far. And yeah, money is certainly never an issue. Even at the beginning I was bringing in far more than I was spending (which was only on potions), and now I have over 3 million. I guess I can stop lugging yellow items back to town any time now.

The game looks really nice. Beautiful effects and texture work. It also runs very well, and the load times are virtually nonexistent, even when teleporting through the various acts. And looking in the task manager I see that it's only using up...200 megs of memory? Madness!

Oh well. Back to the grind! *click*

"Why put locks on your house?  Someone that wants your stuff will just break in anyway, and you might lose your key and lock yourself out.  It's just not worth it!"

That would be the equivalent of losing a CD-Key with the standard DRM of the last 20 years. This new DRM would be like having to ask the key smith for permission every time you wanted to enter your home. And then having him stay in the guest room while you're there.

And no, that wouldn't be worth it either.

So go ahead and purchase a copy of SH5 for me, too. In fact, you can do the same with every Ubisoft game they release henceforth, because they've lost me as a customer.

Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience "Alan Wake" was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform.

That's the biggest load of bullshit I've ever read. Oh well. Thank you for saving me the displeasure of playing your game, I guess.

Hell I finished the game twice and only compiled 92:53 hours (58:41 first time, 34:12 on the second).

Awesome game, though. I plan on playing it at least a couple more times (one with a rogue/thief/assassin build and one as a mage). Saving certain quest lines for certain characters makes replays a bit more enjoyable, I think.

Weird little lighting bug, I found. As you can see, indoors, the glow from my weapon looks fine, but outside in Denerim it seems to light one texture square and that's it.

337  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Laptop screen dead? on: January 15, 2010, 02:42:59 PM
A bad LCD power inverter is the more likely problem, I think. It's a little PCB that looks something like this:

He can replace it himself if he's the handy type. You just need to pull apart the screen casing; the inverter will likely be near the bottom or side of the screen. There are numerous tutorials online.

As far as testing is concerned...I'm not sure. I have 3 dead desktop LCDs and 1 dead laptop LCD (this can't be normal) and they all suffer from the same problem. I know it's the inverter because when I first turn on the monitors the backlights light up just fine, and then turn off a few seconds later.

349  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: So... should I give Thief a second chance? on: November 15, 2009, 09:46:08 AM
I did not enjoy a number of the levels from Thief 1 (which I just got around to finishing this year). I don't think you're missing too much, honestly. Lord Bafford's Manor and Break from Cragscleft Prison were my two favorite levels in the game, and if you didn't enjoy Down in the Bonehoard, then I doubt you're going to have a lot of fun with most of the remaining levels, many of which are an even larger departure from the setting and gameplay of the first few levels (as well as being even more protracted).

Return to the Cathedral is pretty highly regarded, and I will say that it's easily the best mission in the latter part of the game, but I'm not sure it would be worth trudging through the levels leading up to it if you weren't enjoying yourself at all.

I can't comment too much on Thief 2 since I've only played a handful of levels, but I'm hoping to finish that one this year as well.

I really enjoyed most of Thief 3, though, and I would highly recommend that you give it a shot if you haven't. The level design is much more straightforward so you won't find yourself constantly wondering where you are and where the hell you're supposed to be going. It is quite long, though, and it may burn you out after a while, but I implore you to at least get to the Robbing the Cradle level, which is exceptional.

They immediately go for the WASD keys, and when those do nothing they then try holding down the right mouse button to rotate the camera. Sometimes by accident they're reminded it's click to move."

It's not WoW! slywink

I usually play Diablo 2 with my hand on WASD. It's like the PC gamer's version of the home keys. biggrin

I think Fedor adds one more soul to his collection, here.

Which of course means he'll get brutally knocked out in the greatest upset in MMA history.

Of note, SpikeTV will be airing the following recent UFC main events to counter the Strikeforce card:

B.J. Penn vs. Kenny Florian
Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Randy Couture
Vitor Belfort vs. Rich Franklin

Obviously you should watch the live card, but you can tape this or whatever and watch it later, or turn it there during commercial breaks.

BTW Is it possible to edit an INI for KotOR2 v.2.1 so that it'll work with the UniWS? I manually located 2 of the hex strings for resolution and set my own rez, but my edit just crashed the game.  icon_confused

I just tried it out myself and it worked fine, so I'm not sure what to tell you. Here's what I did:

Installed Game.
Patched with file sw_pc_english_from200424_to210427.exe.
Downloaded the "CARBON" No-CD executable from GCW.
Ran UniWS and patched said executable.
Selected 1280x960 in game.
Opened swkotor2.ini and changed the resolutions under the [Display Options] and [Graphics Options] sections to my widescreen resolution.

Launching the game brings up an "insert CD into drive" screen, but clicking continue bypasses it. Everything seems to work fine otherwise.

Are you running Vista or Windows 7?
356  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Commandos sneak into GOG on: October 12, 2009, 01:22:58 PM
I've included a (somewhat) automated method of applying the widescreen hack to Commandos 2, so you don't have to manually hex edit it.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=156911

UniWS is a great program but unfortunately they don't keep it updated, so if I want people to use it to apply whatever hack I come up with, I have to tell them to edit the ini file themselves, which almost defeats the purpose...

What are you gonna do...

Yeah that was the general consensus, I think. Beautiful game and some good shooter gameplay, but almost completely on rails. And the whip was annoying. There is one Billy level later on where it's a bit more open (and is one of my favorites as a result). It has a slower pace and few (no?) enemies, allowing you to ride around and really take in the visuals.

I played through it once and tried to give it a second go but became bored halfway through. Definitely worth the $3 I paid for it at GoGamer though! :b
