Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Recommend me a programming language

Thanks Skylander, but for now, I think the best way for me personally, is to go ahead with something I'd find interesting myself, and Visual Basic seems to fit the bill. I may change my opinion of course ;-)
Does anyone know of any good tutorials for Visual Basic 2010 other than those at MS's own website? The second tutorial there has loads of errors in it, making it pretty hard (for me) to complete
I was going to add some other ideas, but then you said VB and I have to just yell STOP! If you think VB is ok, then go with C#. Where some people said you will learn a lot of great fundamentals by going with C/C++ you will do just the opposite with VB. It is a horrible language that needed to die many years ago.

Has anyone used the Onlive service? I'm debating whether to get Deus Ex through them instead of upgrading the rig. I will still play over the PC rather than a TV though.
I have used OnLive and have the micro-console. I can't say I have logged a bunch of hours, but I have played off and on and find that the service has huge potential. The only real problem right now is that connections are not consistent, and you really need that to pull it off flawlessly.

So I was lucky enough to get invited into this site http://www.steamgifts.com for doing giveaways of steam games. It is still at a very beta state right now and invite only, but one thing that I think the GT community might really like is that you can seutp private giveaways. You can attempt to sign up with the invite code reddit but I am not sure if that is still working. If not, I will gladly send out some invites as soon as I get some. P.S. This site was created by the person(s) who run http://www.steamgamesales.com/ which looks like a pretty neat resource also.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best option to replace a dying 360?
|
on: June 06, 2011, 10:44:22 PM

So I am starting to see signs of my Xbox kicking it again. Sometimes the screen stays black after turning it on, or there are video glitches. So far a reboot clears it all up, but I imagine that won't last much longer.
So I am thinking about upgrading it to one of the new (much quieter from what I hear) slim Xboxs. My understanding is that the HD isn't compatible, so I will need to get one with it. What is my best option? I have some time as long as the current box holds up, so if there is a chance of a better deal in the near future I would wait.

this is a great deal BUT make sure you cancel the auto renewal or they will bang you on this. Also for some reason I was only allowed to extend 4 times.
I keep seeing this about canceling auto renewal. Is this just a concern that you forget about it and end up paying full price, or is there more to it that I just don't get?

I am artjumble.
Note that you can expect to get followed by the two guys who started the site. (or maybe just if you follow them they follow back, can't remember now). Either way, check out the forum and post feedback. They are active there and really want feedback on improving everything about the site.

A new site called Fitocracy.com is in beta right now and I was lucky enough to get in. It allows you to track your workouts (most people there seem to do weightlifting, but there are runners also) and is a bit of a social network. I have 10 invites that I can share if anyone is interested.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Anyone familiar with Sleep Number beds?

We had a sleep# for a few years. You could notice the "seam" in the middle. Actually it is just a 6" section of pad between the two sides, but when you were on it you could tell. Another annoyance was that over time the pressure changes, but the gauge wouldn't show it. So every couple weeks we would deflate and re-inflate it to get it back to the right setting. Also one side started to sag. I took it apart, checked everything, re-inflated it, checked under the bed, etc. but could not come up with a reason for it. We got rid of it shortly after that.
Overall I would say we weren't happy with it. I know I won't be purchasing another, that's for sure.

No, I'm right because when you look at games from a high level view you can see that almost all games fall into just a few categories. Within these categories you get a lot (no really a LOT) of the same. Sure they look different and maybe even feel different, but they are really just a new view of the same gameplay.
Don't get me wrong, I do think there are games that really stand out as different. Either just because they feel so different (Limbo is a good example of this) or they really are something very unique.

Out now on XBLA. Haven't tried it, but I will give it a shot at some point.
While he could have done something to make this game different than MineCraft, I don't think it is more of a ripoff than most other games. Just look at racing games, while there are a few that really innovate, most are just Pole Position with better graphics.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Cable Modem
|
on: March 21, 2011, 08:58:18 PM

OK, so I am not sure if it is worth it or not, but I was thinking I should get a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. After looking at the cox site I found that the Motorola SurfBoard 6120 is supported but I also found the 6121 is cheaper but not 'officially' supported. So the two questions are is it worth getting the DOCSIS 3.0 modem and if so, would the 6121 work for cox?

Have you called them? They'd probably replace it for free.
I own the modem. I have had it for about 10 years. You can always rent them, but that would not have been cost effective.

So I think I need to get new a cable modem because my connection drops a few times a day. I have Cox as my provider and really have no idea which to get. Any recommendations?

On a whim I did the onlive pre-order that gets me one of the "consoles". I figure it will be a good way to test gaming while I am traveling, and give me a bonus.

So this guy can't even play Dead Rising 2 because of having to administer Zombrex shots to the daughter? I think this guy needs to see a shrink. Why, because he makes a strong emotional connection to visuals applying them to his own life? It would be fair to call him a pussy, but I wouldn't say he has a problem.
