do NOT support this shit. what a pathetic company bioware has become. WTF? They've released two GotY quality RPG's in the last 12 months and all of a sudden they're pathetic? putting out costumes for 2 dollars when this should be free. yes. bitter that i'm being nickeled and dimed? yes. have fun with your shitty over priced dlc, but know that you are part of the problem and nothing more. and here's why: hey, remember when tf2 added hats? remember what the cost was? zero. hey, remember when tf2 added a whole new fucking game type? zero dollars again! hey, remember when tf2 added new weapons? ZERO AGAIN actually, they could do that to animals. i despise them unless i'm eating them. fuck pets. if they did that i'd buy their stupid dlc as a way of saying thanks. Comparing Bioware to Valve (a company that has an entirely separate major revenue stream in Steam) is an apples to oranges comparison and means nothing. Also, why exactly should these weapons and armor packs be free? Oh, and say "Hi" to the Bioware rep standing next to you with a gun to your head.

When looking for extremely talented actors, Hollywood should just put Whedon on speed dial.
Reading through this thread for the first time and I just have to say..."please God, don't let this happen". I like Buffy, Angel, and Firefly but I think Whedon generally sucks at finding talent and has just gotten lucky with a few of them. I mean, he casts Elisha Dushku in everything and she might be one of the worst actresses I've ever seen.

godhugh I don't think the real issue is the suing. it is the coverup and moving priests around. It is the very apparent motive that it is more important to protect the church than the children. Were I a Catholic I would have to ask myself what is that the church wouldn't do to protect itself no matter the topic? Clearly they have no problem sacrificing children to protect the church. Now it's homosexuals offered up because they are an easy target. Just a few weeks ago it was a comparison to Holocaust. Is there anything they wouldn't do to protect the church?
No, the real issue as it concerns the article VR posted is the suing. That's what the whole bill is about. If you want to talk about the entire scandal then yes, the issue is whether or not the Church considers protecting itself more important then children. Even as a Catholic I would say that, in the past, it definitely seems like a large number of the leaders of the Church were focused entirely too much on protecting the Church and not their parishioners. Nowadays, however, aside from some asinine comments by Bishops who should never be allowed to speak in public again, I think that Church law is clearly focused entirely on protecting the children in their care over protecting the reputation of the Church.

The Vatican is becoming a joke these days... The second-in-Charge, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, has recently stated that its not celibacy that attracts pedophiles, its homosexuals... its an attempt to shift blame from the way of life for the catholic priests to the induvidual of course.
I wonder what catholics around the world think about all this? Do they see the Vatican is a power that cannot be wrong, or is more like a government that you can disagree with?
They're like a govt you can disagree with. As for this, VR misunderstands the article. It is well known that there was a problem with sexual abuse in the Church in the past. They've implemented extensive institutional changes to make sure that it doesn't happen now. The question isn't "Is the Catholic Church full of child abusers today?" as VR presents it, it's whether or not the Church today should be able to be sued for crimes committed 30+ years ago.

You might want to check and see if Gamefly has any Gboxes in your area. Chances are they won't, since it's apparently a pilot program right now, but it might be worth checking out. Since they don't seem to be terribly well known, they're apparently well-stocked with new releases. I was able to walk up and get a copy of Bad Company 2 the first weekend it was out. It costs $2 a night, so not great for extended rentals, but for short games that you can bust through in a weekend, it might work better.
Really, it would probably be better for people like Pharaoh and myself if Gamefly would offer an a la carte option. I'd be okay with paying like $7 a week to rent a game. I'm less okay with paying to wait for a game. Even with Godhugh's method, you're still paying for a week where you don't have a game, which is lame. I'd be more willing to wait on a rental if I wasn't paying for it. Plus, by charging by the week, people would be more likely to send back games faster, decreasing wait times for everyone.
Yes, you are, but I can also get 2-3 new releases a month for $24. It's saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Also, if I want to buy any of the new releases I can just choose the "Keep It" option and get it for $45. BTW, I wouldn't call what I do "scamming the system", it really is just about keeping only the games I really want to play (new releases) in my queue and making sure I have an open spot for them on release day.

godhugh's guide to getting new releases from Gamefly:
1) Keep nothing but upcoming releases in your queue. 2) Send one of your games back approximately 1 week before the next new release you want comes out. 3) When the game is received by Gamefly you should have an open slot with 2-3 days to spare. 4) 90+% of the time your new release will ship the Monday before it is released.
The absolute key to this is step #1. If you want an older release then send one of your games back and add a couple old ones you want to play to the bottom of the list. When one of them ships, take all old releases out of your queue so that is simply upcoming games again.
If you miss getting a new release the day it comes out, you simply won't get it shipped to you 2-8 weeks, depending on the game. You have to remember that games cost a lot more then DVD's and Gamefly simply can't stock the sheer quantities that Netflix can. The entire initial batch of Gamefly's stock is shipped out the day before a game is released. Those who have the new game in their queue at that point won't receive it until those of us who got it first start sending it back. For a game like God of War 3, this will probably be 2 weeks (1 week to finish the game, 1 week for laziness and shipping time). For a game like Final Fantasy XIII this will probably be between 1-2 months.
If you're not concerned with getting new releases the day they come out, then don't worry about this and just load your queue up with a mix of older games and upcoming games. But don't expect to get the exact game you want every time and don't be surprised or pissed when it's a month or two before you get a newer game.

I tried it, and it was a disaster.
First game I got was Sonic All Star Racing for Xbox. Disc shows up literally cracked in two. Return.
5+ days later, I get my followup game, Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox. Except the didn't include disk 2 or 3. Nice.
8+ days later, (which btw, God of War shipped on a Monday, and didn't get here until Friday, and I am in AZ, it was shipped from LA), God of War 3 arrives. I play it over the weekend, ship it back Monday.
Yesterday, I get a notification they have received it, and of the 2+ games I can have out at the time, all 11 on my GameQ are "Low" availability, and nothing is being sent to me.
I am not paying for this. Cancel. Ripoff.
That sucks, but I don't understand the discrepancy in experiences. I've gotten every single new release I put on the list at or just about at launch. What 11 games did you have that are all low? Yeah, I don't really get how some people have such a different experience. The last 3 games I've gotten from them have been Heavy Rain, MLB10: The Show, Final Fantasy XIII, all on release day.

Maybe for an experiment I will sit down and play Band of Heroes for 30 minutes and see if it gets any better. I will report back.
It won't, if you don't like the Mafia Wars style game at the start you won't ever like it. The only ones I've found that are different enough to be interesting are Castle Age and Starfleet Commander.

I like that song. Beats the hell out of 3/4 of the junk they have given us to download in the last 6 months. Wait a minute !!! Are you saying that the chart looks fun? Or do you actually....like the song. I can't imagine anyone actually likes that song (other then emo kids) in anything other then an ironic sense. It makes me laugh simply because of how bad the song is, especially the dance remix that breaks out 3/4 through, and the video is an absolute classic. As music though, it's just about the worst song ever made.

Some of them can be really fun. I play Mahjongg on there quite a bit, along with Warstorm (CCG type game), Starfleet Commander, Kingdoms of Camelot (Evony clone, without the Evony), Bejeweled Blitz, and a couple others. A lot of them are crap but there are some real gems.

I have to say, I don't get the excitement over this game. I played, and thoroughly enjoyed GoW1, enjoyed GoW2 but felt it was kinda stale, paid no attention to the PSP release, and was completely underwhelmed by the demo GoW3. It's the exact same game as GoW1, with prettier graphics and more head ripping (which was a little disturbing). As far as I can tell there have been zero gameplay improvements since GoW1 came out so I just don't understand why there's all the excitement.

There was a site I found that listed by serial number the common traits of all the 60gb machines. There was a very very brief run of quiet 60gb machines. Most of the rest were noisy in some way or another. Some had other problems with things like the WIFI and other things.
Anyway... UPDATE: I got the slim up and going and I am amazed at how quiet it is. I could turn it on by mistake and never know it was on.
Yeah, I've left my new Slim on all night a couple times simply because I didn't realize it was still on.

Two I don't think have been mentioned but that I would classify as "Must Play" simply because they're so polarizing. You either love these or hate 'em.
Dead Rising Heavy Rain
I adored both of these games and think they should make any "must play" list.

I considered carefully. This is more of a family friendly site than OO, so I figured I better censor it. Actually, when I went looking for my PS3 Slim a couple weeks ago I couldn't find the 120gb anywhere and, according to the Gamespot guys, they had a ton of people asking about them. 250gb's were plentiful and that's what I went with and I'm quite glad I did.

Best moment of the episode was James pushing Randy off the platform in 2 seconds and then throwing his shield thing right at him in disgust.
Really? I thought that was just about the worst moment of the season. James is the roided up freak who used to pick on the small kids in high school. He's a world class asshole who deserves to have a million bad things happen to him. The day he gets voted out will be the best day of the season.

Yes, console gaming is "cooler" then PC gaming. It's that way for a number of reasons.. It probably has the most to do with the fact that console gaming is much more popular and typified by games like CoD, Madden, and Guitar Hero while PC Gaming is known (in the mainstream) solely for World of Warcraft and maybe The Sims. So, you have Soldiers/Football/Rockstars vs. Orcs/Elves. Who do you think is going to win the "cool" contest?

Moronic drivel. You're a classy broad. Smart one too. You're also terrible at reading comprehension and have little to no understanding of this site or the people who frequent it. I'm a girl, and I can unequivocally say, you're all pussies. I can unequivocally say, you have no idea what a man is. Now this, this is a personal attack. Is it a requirement that all new readers of the site have some kind of comprehension of it or the people who frequent it? C'mon. her whole post was an attack on all the males who have posted in this thread already, I fail to see why it is ok and his isn't. I thought he was saying what she said was a personal attack. If not, 'she' clearly has some ties to the mods here because calling every guy in this thread a pussy is certainly a personal attack in my mind. A personal attack is singling out an individual. She made a general comment to no one person in particular, which has already happened several times in this thread. And we have no idea who she is. Thank you. Yeah, that doesn't work. If someone posted "All GT staff members are pussies" I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be looked at as anything but a personal attack.

Why do I have the urge to insult everyone's manhood after reading this thread?
Oh, I know why. You deserve it.
I'm a girl, and I can unequivocally say, you're all pussies.
I read this and laughed, loudly, several times. Yes, it's pretty super vulgar. Agreed, the subject matter leaves much to be desired - I cannot believe many of these games exist. You are correct, it is snarky and somewhat blog-like in style (yet, I would say this is not a detriment and in fact, makes the subject matter seem somehow less offensive and more ridiculous... which was kind of the point, right?)*. However, for those of you who say it does not belong on the site, you are the ones who have one pair of pants, eat the same dinner every night, and have had the same haircut since the womb. As a girl who has gotten to know many dudes, the one thing that is universally unattractive, yet rampant among men, is the inability to tolerate, accept, or enact change in any way. </feministrant>
I applaud the editors of this site who have decided to take a little step outside the box and, oh I don't know, attempt to amuse their readers. Maybe they should have broken you in a little first, but, really, how else are you going to learn to swim unless some asshole pushes you in the pool? Go buy some new pants and have a nice swim. I promise, it won't actually kill you.
*There weren't any actual grammatical errors. It was a stylistic (i.e. subjective) issue that I'm sure you were referring to. For the record, I don't feel that Strunk & White would've been anything but slightly offended or frightened by this piece, and only for its content. They would certainly not be grammatically/stylistically irritated, though.
This may be the dumbest post I've ever read, and that includes some of the wonderful diatribes from Kobra and U2K.

Also. I had five, count 'em five, women read the piece before posting. Let it be noted that none of them kicked me in the nuts.
Then maybe you should have shown it to women whose taste are more mainstream. I'm sure your gut reaction to my saying that is something along the lines of "fuck your puritan mainstream ideals!", but the fact of the matter is you're writing on a website that is trying to be (if it isn't already there) mainstream. This is the type of article you see on a tiny niche adult gaming website that might have porn banners on it. Everything from content to style to the quality of editing smacks of amateur. I don't get why the reaction from the staff in this thread (with the major exception of KD) is to tell everyone who didn't like the article that they didn't understand the meaning or purpose of it. We're a fairly intelligent group here and I'm pretty sure we all got what you were going for. You just failed.

I never used the retrofit mod and so I'm not sure how it loads when you start it. However, if it helps: the way to get Third Age to run on steam is to change the name of the Third Age folder to one of the Kingdoms campaigns (making that campaign folder called something else before hand like "backup Americas"). When you open up the game, click on that campaign (the vanilla name) and you'll have Third Age open up. Only drawback is you have to switch names again should you ever want to play that vanilla campaign again.
This. Works perfectly on my Steam version of Med 2: TW Kingdoms. I was also able to get the Kingdoms Grand Campaign mod to work on my Steam version without any issues.

Well, besides the minor issue of widescreen FOV (which the devs have confirmed again that they'll fix), it's a great game.
I'm a good bit into the game now, and every new area brings not only interesting story, but also drastic gameplay improvements.
Unlike bioshock 1, I find myself using a lot of the extra stuff beyond weapons not just because it's useful, but also because it's really fun. The plethora of gene tonics adds a lot to the game.
Myself, I've kind of got a Pet build. I have a bunch of gene tonics that boost hacking and the damage output of any security under my control. Also, I have a gene tonic that gives any turrets and sentry bots names when you hack them, and allows you to repair them using eve. Combine this with the way these new bots are able to follow me everywhere, I almost always have fresh sentry bots covering me. Although they're still just bots so against the big guys they get wasted, but with all the gene tonic upgrades they last long enough for me to really hurt the big enemies, and their gunfire does quite a bit of damage. I've also got the upgraded Hypnosis, which allows you to completely befriend a splicer, much like hacking a sentry bot.
That sounds pretty cool. I've been working toward a melee/close quarters build with upgraded melee armor, maxed shotgun, and upgraded drill damage. I'm still fairly early though so I haven't been able to specialize too much.

Why are people complaining about clicking on something that was put in spoiler tags? If you are that sensitive to being spoiled, perhaps you should have had some self-control. I could see if he didn't have it in spoiler tags.
Because he proceeded it by saying it wasn't a spoiler and anyone who had read about it BS2 would know about it. I've read about BS2 quite a bit (including multiple reviews), I'm playing BS2 and I can tell you that's a spoiler. Also, we had been having a conversation about Big Sisters in this thread that was limited to the first fight and I assumed (which is my mistake) that his "spoiler" that was labeled in all caps as "NOT REALLY A SPOILER" would be related to that. Had it been appropriately labeled as "MAJOR BIG SISTER SPOILER" then I never would have clicked on it. Regardless, I felt it would be appropriate to warn others who had never seen or read about that bit of information in some random preview that his "NOT REALLY A SPOILER" was actually a "MAJOR BIG SISTER SPOILER".

That's actually talked about in at least 2 different previews I can remember, and I've read it in reviews. There's a difference between major spoilers and "I was in media blackout and its new to me" Yeah, but I wasn't in a media blackout. I read previews and I read a couple reviews and I never saw it mentioned so when I see it here and it's labeled as "not a spoiler" when it actually is, I felt it necessary to warn others.
