8521  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBox 360 Media Connect - Anyone actually running it? on: April 04, 2006, 05:46:09 AM
I've probably tried about 5x since I got the thing to get it up and running... it worked ONCE (though I'm not entirely sure why), and hasn't since.

I have now uninstalled it.  It frustrated me to no end.

What requires the 2 button macro? Sounds suspicious. slywink

Just changing the video inputs.  My television brings up a menu listing all the inputs and then you hit a button next to the one you want.  I could also hit the input button to cycle through them, but the ones I need are seperate (2, 4, and 5).

I think I've got it all figured out now.  Still can't seem to get the power to work quite right, but I added a custom button to turn everything off.

Seems like a very nice remote now that I've had time to get used to it.

Is it a Toshiba?  Mine has that same menu and the Harmony handled it out of the box.

Why do you give me false hopes, Los Angeles?  Why do you insist on keeping that ever small sliver of a playoff hope still alive?

You torture your fans.

Yeah, I guessed as much, based only on the logic of the show that everyone seems to be connected in some way, no matter how goofy it results in being.

Same.  It was the first thought I had when they revealed he conned those two dudes.

Out of curiousity, when will Sean Avery learn to shut his yap?  I don't think getting creamed twice on one shift by Dion Phaneuf on Wednesday night will teach him, either.

He won't.  Like him or not (I find myself on varying ends of that spectrum throughout the season), his job is to annoy the crap out of the other players.  If it means Phaneuf (who is awesome, btw) is spending time hunting out and decking Avery vs our skilled guys, then Avery has done his job.  If he could just learn to stop taking moron penalties, I'd absolutely love the guy.

I've been a Sirius subscriber for 1.5 years and an XM subscriber for maybe 4 now.  I listen to Sirius in my car, mostly Maxim radio with the occassional Howard.  When I sold my last car to my sister, I left the XM in there so she has that.  I still logon to XM online every now and then though.

Got my dad Sirius for Christmas and he loves it.  He's a big Howard fan though.

Oh last point... the Treo 650 does not take advantage of the new hi-speed data networks, which is certainly something to consider.  If you live/work within the coverage areas (major metro cities), wireless broadband access is a HUGE boon.

I've always wondered about that, but for me, having a high speed network on my phone just isn't worth it. I mean, how often do I really need to check up on my mail while I'm on the run? Actually, I never do that anyway, but you see my point.

Well... I check my mail constantly, but that's because I travel quite a bit.

It's also nice to tether the phone to my laptop and have high speed broadband basically anywhere I go in major metro areas.

Finally... there is this awesome product.

Oh snap, the Kings fired Andy Murray.  They were playing pretty poorly and could get bounced from the playoffs altogether.  Too bad, I kind of liked Andy Murray in that "he coaches a rival but you have to respect him" sort of way.

I liked Murray too, but this had to happen.  Two straight seasons of missing the playoffs due to a spectacular implosion at the end of the season = something ain't working.

gellar

But LA has the worst injury luck.  I agree they needed a change but that implosion was usually due in part to a lot of bodies going down for the count.

Agreed.  However, they lost something like 6 or 7 straight games to close the previous season, and they're on a similar track now.  Understood that you're going to lose more when your stars are down... but to not win any?  That's just players giving up.

I've used a Treo 650 and honestly found it awful for a phone.  Voice quality was medicre to poor, and the phone degredates over time.  Some people absolutely love it, however.

I've also heard mixed reviews of the 700.  Some love it, some hate it.

Another alternative is the 8125.  This is Cingular's version of the phone I use with Sprint, the PPC-6700.  I find the slideout keyboard far better than the Treo's tiny one and the screen is gorgeous.  The voice quality of the phone is also leaps and bounds over the Treo as well.  The only caveat is a) if you do turn on the 802.11b wi-fi, it drains the ever loving shit out of the battery, and b) if you like dialing the phone in the car, forget about it, as the dial pad is on the touch screen and you can't feel around for buttons.

Interesting trades for the Islanders.

Isles send Parrish and Sopel to the Kings for two young players Grebeshkov and Tambellini, who happens to be the son of former Islander Steve Tambellini.  Both are 21 & 22 years old.  Time to look towards the future.

As a Kings fan, this is a pretty fair trade from each side.  Parrish is fantastic, and if the Kings can lock him up long term, it ends up as a very good deal for the Kings.  Sopel is better than our 6th defenseman right now (Nathan Dempsey), but is no major prize on his own.

Scouting on the prospects shipped over:
Grebeshkov - I was once very high on this guy.  If he pans out right, he is very similar to the Kings own Lubomir "Norris" Visnovsky.  However, in the action I've seen (both at the NHL and AHL level), he is awful.  Absolutely dreadful.  He currently makes awful decisions on the ice and is entirely too timid on the power play.  Now who's to say he can't turn it around, but I'm glad the Kings sold him before his value dipped further.
Tambellini - Wicked wristshot.  Should be a legitimate scorer in the NHL.  I like the guy... good speed, good shot.  Pretty competitive attitude, and he's put up the numbers everywhere but the NHL.  Problem with him is that the Kings have a lot of forwards, so trading him for Parrish works out fairly well.

I agree with you there Gellar but the game is seriously unbalanced if both sides don't use the buttons. We can try one Tourney (this one) with TBC and then the next one Config 3.

How does that sound?

To be honest, TBC is alot more fun then buttons. I just feel more like I am throwing punches with it then just mashing the buttons like every other fighting game out there.
