I used to work at Mattel Interactive (when it existed).  I am ashamed to mention the projects I was involved in.

So in for this... I'd imagine BC will probably have a server up that you guys are more than welcome to join in on.  The Battlefield games have always held pretty long legs with the IRC crew.

Now, the bet we have right now is whether this game will be poorly coded enough to where even my monster new rig can't run it with full details.

Put me down for the regular Tim's as well.  I brought home the Habanero version that were very hot and got quite a laugh when my wife grabbed a few to try! And I got to eat the rest of the bag myself.  On a side note I've  just started to put the chips on my turkey sandwich as well, adds a nice crunch.

I like the Habanero version as a nice compliment to Jalapeno, but the flavor is so strong that it will never be my go-to chip.  I can't eat enough of them before I kind of get overwhelmed by the taste (not in a good way).  As a light snack every now and then though, they go well.

QFT... And if you mainly play WoW like me, dont even bother with the 7950GX2 as its SLI in a single slot and WoW doesen't support SLI and you will see zero benifit from it.

Cause I can slywink.  And I actually play lots of games on the PC (just not for long periods of time).  WoW was the example I used cause it's the only PC game in the last 3 years I've played more than 10 hours of.

I'm with Devil on this one.  In fact, one year (not last year, but some year that I cannot remember exactly) I enjoyed the EA offering more.  Sure it was more arcadey (not necessarily a bad thing), but it wasn't broken and was a lot of fun.

8376  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Heartache! Disbelief! - A thread to vent, cry, pout, SHARE.. on: August 01, 2006, 05:21:57 AM
Dammit... I got one tonight.

Tired of pwning with USC, I created a Dynasty with Oklahoma State.  I blew past the cream puff I-AA team in week one and went heavily favored into week two against Arkansas State.  First half goes well... I'm up 21-14 and controlling momentum.  First possession of the 2nd half, I extend my lead to 28-14 on a great drive involving some nifty moves by my QB and RB.

Then all hell breaks loose.  Ark State comes storming back.  First just a simple Figgie that doesn't scare me.  28-17.  Then they score a TD... 28-24, and I am sufficiently scared.  3 or 4 mins left, I get the ball back, run two mediocre running plays... and then third down.  Knowing that my RB has been left open on a few option reads throughout the day, I call a Play Action Read where the RB keeps going and is available as a receiver.  It works... except the ball clanks off his hands as I pass it to him.  4th and 5.  Punt.

Less than 2 mins left and Arkansas State has the ball at their own 40.  They drive.  I pick it and break for the end zone.  I score.  Play is called back... pass interference on me.  God.  Dammit.  They score the TD with 1:10 left on the clock.  Thankfully, they fail the 2 pt conversion.  30-28, 1:10 left, and my turn.

A big kickoff return by my star WR gets me to my 40.  I then promptly proceed to do nothing with the next 3 plays.  4th and 10 and by some miracle, I convert a crossing pattern to my speedy 4th WR.  Getting closer.  A few plays later and I'm on the fringe of FG range and marching.  25 seconds left in the game and I spot my star WR wide open down the right hash.  I hit him with a strike at the 10 yard line and he turns upfield... right into a defender and FUMBLES THE BALL.  Arkansas State picks it up and goes 91 yards for the score.  They miss the 2 pointer and are now up by 8.

I have time for one hail mary that fails miserably.

I lose.  Final score: Ark St 36, Ok State 28.

Well, they are about $150 more expensive than Alienware for a comperable machine... but they do have the machine I was *planning* on building (that I can't do at Alienware) for $2105.  Decisions, Decisions.  It's basically the same machine as above, but with a regular 7900 GT video card and an E6600 instead of E6700.  $500 less though...

I've been really looking as well, and comparing Velocity Micro to Alienware.  I think I like Velocity Micro more right now.  They are about the same price, and that Alienware case looks horrible.

I also really like the fact that Velocity Micro's customer support is 100% based in America (no Alienware info that I saw on theirs, but if they share with Dell, good lord...).  Velocity Micro's CEO posts frequently on HardOCP as well, helping out people.

I'm skeptical that the video cooling is worthwhile, especially on the 7950.  Reviews I've seen of the 7950 say its relatively quiet on its own.  Comments on Alienice I've seen in general claim its a rip off (from various forums).

My other question was going to be to go with the Soundblaster X-Fi or not...

Velocity looks like it ships quicker as well.

Hmmm... may have to take a gander at them for sure.

Thanks!

I wish I could say I'll pick this up on release day, as I am quite interested in it, but 2K has not exactly had a stellar track record with non buggy, playable software as of late (MLB 2k anyone?).  Even my copy of NHL2K6 still locks up on me frequently.  I'll have to take a wait and see on this one.

Why doesn't Visual Concepts (Take Two?) just make a football game based on the real players (though with different names and on teams like the Baltimore Crows) that allows the user to change the names (like they do for their college basketball game). Couldn't they get around the NFL license that way? I'm sure most NFL2kx fans would buy that game over Madden.

On the one hand, this is a bit ridiculous to charge for and hope people buy it.  It's corporate arrogance and corporate ignorance at it's worst.

On the other, I honestly can't blame them for trying to make a buck on the idiots who would pay for this thing.  I'm sure EA has done enough research to know that this will, in fact, make them money.  Can't blame them for that.

gellar, I would seriousy reconsider that purchase and look at the E6600.  Especially since they can be cranked up to 4Ghz.

I don't overclock, as I am entirely too lazy to.  I don't even overclock my video card.

From what I can tell, the E6600 is marginally faster in the benchmarks I care about (games).  If I can get one as easily as I can the 5000+, I will certainly do so.  However, if there are supply issues or stability issues with the new mobos, I'll be going AMD for sure.  I understand I'm giving up a bit of performance for some convenience, but that's something I'm more than willing to do.
