I actually really enjoyed that game. Two excellent defenses. Difference in the game was that Panthers o-line was horrifyingly overmatched (much like the Pats line was) and the Broncos D just put their offense in excellent position all game. Manning was horrible, but predictably horrible and his D won him the game.

I really wanted to see Cam dominate, but defense wins championships.

I enjoyed the beta quite a bit. Really looking forward to the full game now. Dark Zone is well implemented versus a pain in the ass, which was a pleasant surprise.

I do wish the combat was more satisfying (comparing it to Destiny primarily), but its a small nit on what otherwise seems like a game thats right up my alley.

I've definitely not noticed a change with the Kuda and Vond didn't tweet anything about it (he's been good at that for Blops 3), so I think its in your head/connection.

I've moved pretty much exclusively to TDM now. Just easier to get a game and I found that KC just takes a long time now that I am used to the TDM match pace. I really wish I could play some Dom, but solo Dom is just asking for pain.

I'm a huge fan of the Ripper as well, though using it does basically always lead to an eventual death for me. It's still fun as hell and I can get 2-3 kills before someone shoots me as I'm trying to stab them in the face.

I can see ATB not enjoying it based on his self-described play style. You have to run around a lot to make it fun, otherwise its never useful.

My best case realistic hire for SF is Doug Marrone.

He had the Bills poised to do something at the end of last season before the whole he resigned and rex ryan debacle.  It will take him a couple seasons, but he could be a good coach for SF.

Yeah I wouldn't hate the hire, but I wouldn't love it either. It would depend a lot on who he could get to coach the offense and defense. It certainly would be better than this year.
47  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NFL 2015 Week 17 on: January 04, 2016, 05:15:26 AM
Tomsula certainly wasn't the entire problem, but he was definitely a problem. Keeping him was a non starter since his assistants are extremely terrible and no credible NFL assistants would work for him.

Kelly would be a significantly better hire than Holmgren, but I don't think he's stupid enough to come to SF. Payton would be better than either, but I don't see that happening either.

My best case realistic hire for SF is Doug Marrone. That's not really filling me with confidence. Then again I somehow managed to not lose a ton of money on my tickets this year, so maybe there's some hope for next year.

Ah that's a good point. My time has been 100% solo.

Agreed on KC, but I just find it more interesting than TDM. It's also easier to get reasonable streaks vs TDM because you can luck across three or four tags vs in TDM where you have to hope you don't die to some corner camping asshole.

Holy crap what game mode are you playing to get that W/L ratio?

My KD is barely over 1.0, but my SPM is over 100 pts higher.

My W/L is basically even though. I've been playing primarily KC lately and the game's matchmaking puts me with the worst goddamn players in the lobby. I've gone 41-17 with 30 confirms in KC and we've still lost by 20. It's ridiculous.

Less extreme example: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-bhTaO28BpzU/Vl6V0EZTzCI/AAAAAAAAAzU/QELdP0KGBK4/w860-h1146-no/2015-12-01.jpg

The shooting is also good. I haven't used VATS at all and I used it extensively in Fallout 3 and a good 25% of the time in New Vegas.

Yup, I've been noticing this too. VATS comes in handy in certain situations, but otherwise it's playing very well as a FPS.

When I hit about ten hours in I was feeling very meh about the game, but now that I've hit about twenty hours I'm really enjoying it. However, I would say that part of a reason (maybe a big part of the reason) is the settlement activity. It gives a reason to go wandering around looking for fans and radios and other odd stuff.

I assume you guys are playing PC? The shooting on consoles is... bad.

I think I'm level 9, somewhere around a dozen hours in, and so far this game isn't really grabbing me.  I think at least partially because 90% of my time is just looting, worrying about loot, and emptying my bags.

I don't particularly like the combat, it tends to feel bad whether I'm shooting something in real-time or using the VATS system.  It's like the worst feeling FPS in the world, so any time enemies show up I groan inwardly.

I also don't think that any of the base building stuff is very good, or has much of a point.

I'm right there with you. I think I'm level seven or eight and I don't fully understand why I'm playing. Agree with all of your points.

Yeah I'm really impressed so far. The map design is just... well after the last two COD games, going back to Treyarch maps just makes me very happy. Creative, colorful, and fun.

I actually even played two of the campaign missions and had fun with those, which might be the first time I've ever said that about a COD game.

Quote from: Destructor on October 16, 2015, 05:14:24 AM

I bitched about this with my Surface Pro 3 (I own one and I love it), and I'm gonna bitch about this with the Surface 4:

OMGWTFBBQ does Microsoft rip the everfuckinglove you off with their 'upgrades' for their Surface lineup.

It costs $300 dollars, THREE HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS, to go from 4GB to 8GB of RAM and to go from a 128GB SSD to a 256GB SSD.

Did you know that 256GB SSD drives BY THEMSELVES cost on average 50 cents per GB, or about $128? And RAM costs next to nothing (seriously, 4GB is like $20-30 or so, if even). So for the AT MOST $100 upgrade (~$64 for the SSD upgrade, ~$40 for the RAM) Microsoft charges you $300 for.

And I thought Apple was bad.

Absolutely do not buy the i7 version. There is absolutely no use for it whatsoever unless you're going to be using say AutoCAD on it or rendering videos constantly. It is a complete and total waste of money, ESPECIALLY for the stupid-insane prices that Microsoft STILL charges.

Its pretty in line with Apple Macbook pricing, I think. I personally agree about the i7. The only time I ever had an i7 in my laptop was when work was footing the bill for a monster Macbook Pro. For my money, an i5 is plenty (and probably overkill, if we're honest).

Quote from: gangeli on October 16, 2015, 04:37:21 PM

Eh, apple charges $200 to go from a 128GB ssd to a 256GB model.

So, for an extra $100, you also get another 4 gig of ram.

Sounds like they are pretty much in line.

Yup.

Quote from: Canuck on October 16, 2015, 09:28:12 PM

My problem is the limits in customizing. Say for example I want an i7, but I want to keep the cost down and go for 128GB of RAM. Can't do it. Or maybe I want to stick with the M3 but I want a lot of memory to go with it. Can't do it.

The problem with customization is that to keep these things slick and integrated, Microsoft is probably soldering memory chips to the boards (just like Apple has done for years). Not to mention supply chain - Microsoft wants you to go into their store (online and virtual) and either walk out with a machine or have it on your doorstep in the matter of days. If you want customization, you aren't the market for the Surface Book. If you want probably the best made Windows laptop on the market, you are the market.

It's the first Windows machine I've wanted since the days where I lusted after Falcon-NW computing rigs. I've never thought of a Windows laptop as anything close to desirable from an aesthetic/build quality standpoint, but this thing looks like its going to change my mind... and this is coming from a guy who switched to Apple in 2007 and never looked back. For years my answer to the question "Best Windows laptop money can buy?" has always been "Macbook Pro running Windows." Might be different now.

I'd like to declare that 10/2 will be Taken War Friday. I've put the call out on OctopusOverlords. We're going to take the war to the Taken, which means doing Taken War: <blah> quests, Court of Oryx, and even Taken war story for those of us who haven't finished the main story mission yet. Let's shoot for 8:30pm EST again and see who shows up. We'll need to split up if odd numbers show up since everything except the raid and Crucible only allows a max of 3 people in the fireteam.

Taken War: <blah> quests are pretty quick to finish and definitely go faster with a fireteam.
Court of Oryx is a blast, is a good source of engrams, and also goes pretty quickly with a fireteam.
And Taken war story missions are always a good chance for those of us with alts to take them and help our fellow guardians who are doing the Taken story for the first time.

See you there.

I'm in. Will be there on the early side and hopefully will be 40 by then.

It's somewhat liberating to have literally zero positive expectations of your favorite team. No stress, just laughter.

It's like the Ericson days all over again Tongue

Or Nolan. I guess I had some level of hope for Singletary for that one fully year.

I had zero hope for Harbaugh's first year (and was wrong), so that was the most recent time I had this feeling.

Ya I had hopes for Ericson, and you were right to tell me how wrong I was on that one Tongue  Nolan was an idiot.  I did have hope for singletary, but he turned on not know what to do.  Harbaugh I bought in on day one, and I still think it was a horrible move to dump him over ego.  Quickly they forget how it was.  Well, they're about to be reminded. (no offense to our newest coach)

Yeah I knew Harbaugh would be good, I just assumed he was going to struggle in his first year, especially because a) there was the lockout that prevented any summer coaching and b) he had Alex Smith as his starting QB.

I was very wrong. It was a glorious year.

And now we're here.

I would say outside of RPGs, Assassins Creed+clones, or Uncharted+clones, the majority of my gaming time is spent competitively online. It's probably 90% of my time. I like playing MP in the sense that humans are better competition than AI, but I have zero interest in interacting with anyone I shoot/shoots at me or scores/scores on me. Basically I treat online MP as games with really good AI.

Challenge 3%: "These gamers play at the highest difficulty settings and donít mind failing missions repeatedly in games like Dark Souls because they know itís the only way theyíll master the game. They want gameplay that constantly challenges them." SURE DON'T

Completion 1%: "For gamers who score high on Customization, this may mean collecting costumes and mounts in games like World of Warcraft." SOUNDS TERRIBLE

Community 2%: "For them, games are an integral part of maintaining their social network." NOPEDOTCOM
