Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: I got 11 hours of sleep last night!

I generally sleep nine hours every night. No kids FTW.
Nine? I usually get 7 (although I do have bouts of insomnia that pops up every few weeks for a day or two) and if I sleep more than that, I actually feel a bit tired the following day. I know a few others that have the same issue, so I wonder why that is. Yeah between seven and nine is usual unless I go out that night, which happens once or twice a week. Typically asleep sometime between 10-11 and always up around 7am.

The Airports are pretty good in general and have excellent signal strength. The one thing I absolutely detest is having to use Apple's software to interact with them. Give me a nice, easy to use web-based interface!
I have no problem with the interface... I just hate how often it asks me to update the software.

p.s. you DO realize there's already a cap on annual contributions, right? It's not like retirement funds are currently untouched by government.
Was gonna post the same thing really. Out of some of the other crazier shit that I expect to see in this budget, this is actually a pretty good idea. Please Eco, save your rage for stuff that might actually be worth raging over.

just out of curiosity, are you using the 'alternative' post processing setting? I hear that one is screwing up the details on close-up objects.
That one I'm not sure. Will have to look into it when I get done with work today. I'm not using alternative and some of the textures are pretty bad. The roses are a good example. It's like 95% beautiful and 5% bad. Running at Ultra Settings, 2560x1440 resolution.

For what it's worth, I don't think I've ever seen MSE actually stop any kind of virus, trojan, or piece of malware from installing and running. Ever. A few weeks ago a family member clicked on an e-mail attachment which then proceeded to install some feux AV scam which made the computer unusable while constantly throwing up scare notices about porn viruses (the scam was they wanted you to send them your credit card info so they could send you a "key" to enable their software and remove the "virus".
Their PC had a fully up to date MSE running which proved to be utterly impotent. I had to run RKILL to find and kill the process before installing and running MalwareBytes as well as HijackThis and another program I can't remember the name of so I could track down and delete the remnants. While doing this I had the process manager open and found that "iexplorer.exe" was running, even though Internet Explorer wasn't. I killed it and a minute later it came back. So it had another trojan on it as well, apparently, that MSE wasn't aware of.
By far, the best anti-virus is common sense. But if, on the other hand, you have family members who think browser toolbars are obviously an essential part of the Internet experience (and don't we all), then you have my sympathy. I can only recommend that you also make sure you have programs like MalwareBytes and Spybot S&D installed to help catch what MSE can't.
Candidly while I don't think its true that MSE won't stop *anything*, it will stop less than the likes of McAfee, Norton, and Kaspersky. MSE does not have the same newer detection technology that the big guys have and does not innovate at the same speed. But it's free and is often good enough for a lot of folks. Put it this way, the free stuff will block say 90%. The good pay stuff will block another... 8-9% on a good day. There's >1-2% no one will block. Whether that 8-9% is worth the $50 or so a year is up to the individual. *disclaimer* Once again I do work for one of the major pay security organizations noted above and my opinions are my own, not theirs.

We cut the cable a couple years ago and do netflix, hulu + and NHL Gamecenter Live. There are some annoyances - I can't watch any Colorado Avalanche games, and and any nationally televised game is blacked out. The major annoyance is that the playoffs are not available through GCL. However, we've saved an absolutely *insane* amount of money by not paying the ridiculous cable fees every month. Overall, it's a plus. I might try adding an HDTV antennae, which would get me some playoff hockey, I guess, and we would have the option of watching some stuff when it aired. Dunno though, might keep things as is... we certainly have enough going on that we don't spend much time watching anyway.
Wait, what? The playoffs aren't available through GCL? They were when I had the service a couple of years ago! So does that mean that I've paid $50 for this year's GCL but I can't watch any playoff games with it? That's the whole reason I got it-I don't give a damn about the regular season. It might be different overseas, but certainly in the US any game that is 'nationally televised' (whether through a major network or any of the NHL's cable options: NHL Network or NBCSN) is blacked out nationally on GCL. Sometimes the first round of the playoffs are local broadcasts (can't remember what the situation was last year), but anything after that is absolutely, positively not on GCL.

MSE did fail a recent industry benchmark, but their reasoning for failing it was fairly sound. Still, they failed where lots of others passed.
That being said, their reasoning holds true of the world as it stands today: No software will is capable of blocking everything. If it's new, innovative, or targeted... most software will miss.

I'm also pretty sure after reading eco's post above that he's not quite sure what "completely" actually means. Gonna have to agree here. The reason 'nothing ever changes' is that that the entire populace of this country is too caught up in OMGPROBLEMZEVERYTHINGSUCKS rather than coming up with rational solutions. 'CUT SPENDING' is not a rational solution for any person of even moderate intelligence. It's just as good as 'MAKE MOAR MONEY.' This country needs plans, not postures. Our politicians and the bases they serve are really only interested in the latter. THAT is the problem. This may be the best summary of the situation I've read so far. Nice work gellar. EVERY. MEASURABLE. WAY. You're really not that great of a dresser. Sorry to break it to you. I mean first of all that's subjective and not measurable, but secondly: you are incorrect.

I have a GE Profile that came with the house. It functions rather well. It's a french door style with no bottom drawer, which is preferred for me since I have very little in the freezer.
My only complaint is the water filter seems to need to be changed a lot more often than I figure it should... but that may be a factor of how much water we consume more than anything else. It still seems quite frequent though.

I actually struggle with this particular topic (though it's somewhat off topic for this thread and we should perhaps continue elsewhere).
On the one hand, I believe very much in a free market for goods AND services (including employable persons) and that fundamentally, we are all paid what we are worth simply because we accept that payment for our services. I also have trouble with what seems to be a broken welfare system. I also pay more in taxes a year than the average american household makes and I know that shit isn't being spent well. This all bothers me.
On the other, my immediate family was a recipient of said welfare system for a few years when I was growing up. Kato's story along with dozens of other personal stories (including my own) show that it's necessary. ALL children MUST HAVE a standard of living in order to further our society.
There must be some middle ground here.

I was on food stamps the first two years I was in the military. Being a private, moving around every few months, it was hard for my wife to pull down a job. I found it humiliating using them, but hey I needed it. Hello my name is Kato and I'm a moocher.
Freedom isn't free, Kato. Apparently not even for those who are fighting for it. Thank you for your service.

Yeah Reed has lost a step and Whitner isn't very good at covering deep.
Honestly I don't think we need either of them (Goldson or Reed). If the Niners have a cover Safety identified in the draft, I think that's the route they will take.

I do not like the idea of Harvin in Seattle. The only bright side is that he will probably be injured for at least one of the 49ers meetings per year.
Boldin for basically free is pretty awesome.

well, it was smoked and the heat source came from the fire box on the side.
Hmmm so no direct heat? Weird. How hot were you running? Personally I don't actually long smoke tri tip, so I don't have a ton of experience with it other than general experience with things I do smoke (ribs, shoulder, brisket, etc...).

The outside looked a bit dark than what my friend did with the same recipe. But it was pretty good. The outer part was a little crunchy (fat side) where his isn't. I think where I went wrong is I put it fat side down for 30 minutes and then flipped it for the rest of the time time 3.5 hours or so. I think next time I'm just leaving it alone. Everything else under the layer was great. I now need a meat slicer Overall turned out great! Not as good as my friends (who I think makes the best tri-tip I've ever had anywhere) but it was close. If there's too much bark, you probably had it too close flame. You want more of an indirect heat than a direct heat.
