I'm enjoying it a lot. MP as usual, but surprisingly enjoying the campaign more than any COD since I dunno, MW2?

I really like the Apple leather case but obviously it hides the finish of the phone that you guys seem to want to show off. But in terms of protection and feel, I have not found anything better. It's also preposterously expensive, which is the major negative.

I know I quite enjoyed the 1-30 game before.  There was just a wall at 30 where all of a sudden things lived way too long.

Agreed. Hopefully I'll find motivation to try the game after 1.4. It sounds like a large step in the right direction.

So the Beta has been pretty fun. I'm optimistic.

It's two games and you don't need to install them both at the same time.

That being said, 90GB for IW is a ton and way more than I can think of for any other game.

I'm honestly starting to think that Gellar's drivatar may be bugged. I've previously commented on how it tends to zip ahead of everyone else regardless of car, but in this latest championship (Ferrari vs Lamborghini) it has grown ridiculous to the point of frustration. I could drive perfectly and I still wouldn't be able to even see his car, let alone have a chance of passing it. The only way I can tell where it is is by looking at the GPS. I race to second place within the first half of the first lap, and yet Gellar's drivatar is nowhere to be seen, having pulled far, far ahead of the rest of the drivatars in half a lap. It's impossible to beat this no matter how well I drive, which is why I'm wondering if it's simply a bug. My car is upgraded to its limits, but I stand no chance.

It's kind of making this particular championship feel pointless. Why try to excel if there's no way for me to win anyway?

What drivatar difficulty are you playing? I haven't seen anything like that. I've had a runaway leader I just couldn't catch but the fault was squarely with me.

I do have one race setup that I totally annihilate the competition. It's basically a collection of misfit cars and I have a D500 Meyers Manx setup for stupid speed and no handling and it is ridiculous (I thik I went for an engine conversion but left factory tires on it). I'm in second place when I hit the starting line. I have to drift and smash into barriers to turn without coming to a complete stop. It's pretty funny.

In general, speed is way prioritized over handling. There are races I cannot even come close to winning if I prioritize handling because the AI cars just walk away from me on the straights. I wish the game did a better job of balancing based on all of the characteristics vs just overall car score.

That doesn't seem to be the problem in this case either. I can eventually match your drivatar's speed as far as I can tell (with similar lap times), but the head start he gets and the fact that while I can match him I can't beat him, means that I can't get any closer to him. In other words, it looks like our speeds are equal as soon as I get to second place.

Yeah that's another issue. I really hate that I start at the back. Depending on the lineup and my car, I'm somewhere in the top 3 difficulty levels but a lot of that has to do with me having to make up a large amount of ground from starting dead last.

Open Amazon, then Metacritic to this link http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/genre/metascore/role-playing/xboxone?view=condensed  take the first few games and plunk them into Amazon and see what is cheapest used.  I don't see much reason to buy new since you are looking to fill in a few library.

Personally I would get The Witcher 3, Divinity: Original Sin, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.  Those three are great RPGs and they have a lot of elements of Adventure games too so you get two genres for one!

I agree with two of those three. I didn't think DA:I was very good at all. Witcher 3 though was beyond excellent.

So, again, I do think it's great.  However, the reviews made it seem like this is a masterpiece, and I wouldn't go that far.  I actually think Forza 2 was a tighter game than this (maybe not in the car mechanics and such, I'm not a gearhead).

I actually think I agree. FH2 had me enthralled until completion, whereas sometimes in FH3 I'm just sitting there going 'well there's all of these things I can do... but I don't really want to do any of them.'

Still having a blast, but it hasn't lived up to my own personal hype.

14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Forza Horizon 3 [XB1/PC] on: September 29, 2016, 06:38:29 PM
So a few minor questions and complaints:

1) Barn finds, while great in theory, are tedious and horrible. I've basically just skipped straight to googling the location and even then its annoying.
2) I don't know if it's just because I just suck now, but I cannot at all feather the brakes like I used to. ABS seems to be a requirement. On older Forza games, I used to be awesome with the brake trigger and it would be where I made up a lot of ground in races. Did they change the sensitivity or am I just old and bad now?
3) It really seems like racing line is a requirement, particularly in off-road races. This is a bummer - I like having as little of the HUD up as possible but having to rewind 5x a race just because I have no idea where the course is designed to go is frustrating.
4) I really wish they integrated Pandora (or even better, Spotify but I know thats a Sony exclusive) vs Groove. Groove is genuinely terrible. Pandora in the background works, but is suboptimal.
5) Some of the friends bucket list items are hilariously bad. I like the idea but the execution is lacking.

Overall I'm having a great time though.

Did I mention the solid-state capacitative home button is way more annoying than the absent earphone jack? imho, it'll be the biggest stumbling block to customers moving to 7. It's really more of a vibrating home button than a click now.

Also, you won't be able to use regular gloves with it.  disgust I thought the fingerprint sensor stuff was great -- this so far just strikes me as weird and difficult to get used to, and "gizmo-ing for the sake of gizmo-ing."

I wonder how they marketed it in meetings. "Now, you don't have to deal with that annoying home button click you've been so comfortable using for 9 years! We'll also remove that pesky 'finger swipe to unlock your iPhone' feature, because you didn't want that feature anymore!"

http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/09/16/iphone-7-solid-state-home-button-works-on-capacitive-touch-gloved-users-beware

I'm not planning to return it or anything. Just I think the non-physical home button may prove to be a bigger "get used to it" stumbling block than other aspects of the iPhone  7 or iOS10. fwiw. Maybe I'll feel differently in a week.  icon_smile

I actually found it really easy to adjust to and I was expecting it to be difficult, FWIW.

Here are some nice photos Sports Illustrated took at an NFL game:

http://www.si.com/nfl/photo/2016/09/11/iphone-7-plus-sneak-preview-photos

As for the headphone jack, it's always annoying when you lose a port or interface you are comfortable with, but that's also a move to the future and part of the growing pains of engineering.  Some day soon there will likely be NO interface port and everything will be handled wirelessly.  The phone will be water resistant by having the speakers shoot water out of them  icon_wink   Honestly it could already be done right now, but it would likely freak people out who can't handle too much change too quickly.  And isn't it just a little bit ironic that in an age of "wireless connectivity" people are getting so upset about losing a wired connection?  I can't wait to see how the masses react to autonomous cars, now *that* is going to be exciting.

If you really want to "fight the future" there are plenty of excellent alternative options with the 6 series.  And even with the 7, Apple provided what I felt was a surprising concession by including both wired (lightning) headphones AND an adapter to analog.  Only the simultaneous charge and wired use case requires the Belkin adapter.

And I'd bet there will also be cases coming out that add a 3.5mm jack.

That would be a significantly large case.

Well, my iPhone 5 is now 3.5 years old or so. What's another year if the 2017 version should be so 'absolutely amazing'? Then again, that's not like Apple to make major changes to a phone on the 'off years' when they release the S versions.

Who knows if my battery will last that long though.

Not sure about the 5, but I could easily get my 6 battery replaced for a small amount. Would be worth looking into if you want to keep the older form factor.

I personally have never, ever cared about issues that don't directly affect me. In general: sucks to be you, but I don't care.

I'm due for a refresh and the announcements made me happy. The nicest thing is that I'll have to pay $100 less for 128GB than I was expecting. Other than that the biggest thing I'm looking forward to is increased battery life, both from having a new vs 18 month old phone and just the increase in capacity.

I think we've got to the point where I don't really know what feature would get me excited for a new phone. I guess maybe if they made one drop proof.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: August 01, 2016, 11:32:08 PM
I hope Background Music brings Spotify to the system. Pandora is fine, but I actually pay for Spotify each month so having it on both the PS4 and XBone would be nice.

As a big detractor to the system in the past, I have to say the most recent updates have made it much better. The UI doesn't chug nearly as much as before and I can generally get to what I want quickly without trying to too hard.

Just tried a few more attempts with a friend, first as a pair and then second as a PUG of two randoms. Both failed miserably.

Basically the only real part of the end game at this point is DZ/daily grinding until you get a massively high enough gearscore that you can do the incursion. I'll likely be shelving it for a bit until they add more content.

I'm happy with everything in the patch except the Incursion. That thing is terrible.

I haven't done it yet - what don't you like about it?

It's horde mode, imo, with nothing but gold enemies with a APC as the end boss.   Basically, Challenge level enemies..  It's definitely a gear gated

Gear gated with not fun tactics required to make it. You definitely can't do it without coordination, which makes PUGs difficult. But mostly its just not fun at all. Its one room, wave after wave of enemies, with nothing interesting happening.

After mission designs like the Lexington Event Center, Police Station, and Russian Consulate... this is a big let down.

I'm still playing the game a lot though.

Is that on hard or challenging difficulty?

Hard. I can't even begin to imagine it on Challenging. And this is with a 175 gear score, which while not great is well above the recommended minimum.
