Keep in mind if you do this, your Steam account will be suspended and you'll lose access to all your games. You'll have to get a CS rep from Steam to fix this and remove the disputed game. I don't know if this is worth $14 of your time, but that's your call...

Thanks for the info. In light of said info, I probably won't dispute the charge. I don't care if they don't want to give me the $10 price, but I do want them to give me a refund if they won't. After I saw that I was actually charged $24, I even fully exited Steam and restarted it, and their front page still showed the price as $10. Then after I submitted my service request it had gone up to $24. I haven't heard back from them yet.

It's been showing up as $11.99 for me all day.

Also, why is Arma 2 CO still the number 4 top seller a few days in?  It's been $4 cheaper at amazon for a few days now.  does nobody cross check for better prices?  At this rate, why would Steam lower the price on it any more if it just keeps selling.
42  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Final Fantasy VII coming back to the PC? on: July 06, 2012, 12:15:53 AM

Quote from: Destructor on July 05, 2012, 02:41:38 PM

The only thing 'revolutionary' about FFVII was its CGI cutscene use due to the storage mechanics of the system. The story was bland and generic, the characters were meh and stereotypical, the combat system worked well enough, but its overuse of unskippable cutscenes for its more powerful attacks means you fired off your powers then got a drink, and the whole thing just doesn't hold up (especially the very low-resolution visuals combined with polygon characters).

Oh, and the main reason it sold so well? The constant, constant, CONSTANT TV/movie ads EVERYWHERE showing 100% CGI footage. People were fooled into thinking it actually looked that good and snapped up the game and console because of it. Period. Like Gratch just said.

When Squenix said that they wouldn't redo FFVII until one of their games topped it, I just laughed. FFIV and FFVI (especially FFVI) were far superior games.

I think the story was pretty good, at least for the time.  I also think one of the reasons it sold so well, at least as I remember, was because they were tauting the large amount of gameplay hours one could expect, which was much higher than many people were used to seeing, compared to action/adventure games.

Personally, I always liked FF8 better.  I enjoyed the story and characters more, and liked the art direction much better.  it was a little less "cartoony".

about 2 minutes to go, and we just hit over $330k, adding animals and animal allies.  that's awesome.  not enough time for $360k, unfortunately.

This.

In for the $15.  That's a very small risk compared to what the reward could potentially be.

i refrain from buying too many games so my backlog is never more than a few games at the most.  but i find this interesting, what you're doing.

Although the game mechanics were a little rough for Alpha Protocol, I felt the content, and choices made it fun and I played though it several times.  I hope you are enjoying it.

they really need to fix that hack/bug whatever it is.

Everyone on the server spontaneously died at once?  That's a known bug, or a hack?

My computer seems to dislike the engine they use. Any game made on that engine, my computer pretty much refuses to run. I had posted on their forums for help on one of their games, but they were completely puzzled and even had to bring in the help of another developer using the engine to try to help. Shame as it looks pretty good.

I'm impressed they didn't just shrug off your complaint, and went the extra mile, consulting with other developers to try to solve your issues.

Bill Harris mentioned this on his blog a couple weeks ago, and I meant to check it out.  After reading a couple of those reviews, I'm pretty sold.  Especially comments like these:

Quote
Those with patience will find 4-5 hours of storytelling that will entrance and move all but the most hard hearted of gamers, and will come out of the experience with many things to think about. For this writer, the chill in the air this morning was a little bit crisper, the sun a little brighter, and his sleeping wife a little more mysterious and beautiful thanks to this game. If that isn't worth $11.99, I'm not sure what is.

As someone who loves story-driven games, this sounds incredible.  Will grab it tonight.

For those who have finished, does it really only take 4-5 hours to complete?

Yes, though you could push it to 6.   Much like with the original Portal, though, it's quality far, far outweighs the quantity.

Are you saying you would be surprised if Hollywood did or did not get it?  Bit of double negative.  I would assume you mean they will grab it based on the generally positive tone of your comments.

Ran out of brain steam by the end of that, but, yes, I meant that in no way would it not surprise me if Hollywood didn't not snatch that up.  Not at all.

Well, folks, we're at the top of the half, and here's the score sofar:
I meant that in no(-) way would it not(-) surprise me if Hollywood didn't(-) not(-) snatch that up.  Not at all.
I meant that [it would] surprise me if Hollywood [did] snatch that up. Not at all (which is irrelevant to the prior statement, but in its own fashion contradicts the prior statement).

The "Not at all" was in no way entirely not intentional.

I'm not at all sure if I wasn't not quite paying attention.  Couldn't you not try to further explain yourself?

The story is so engaging because it's bleak and complex. It reminds people of great fantasy like A Song of Ice and Fire because of the way the world isn't just black and white (and neither are the characters) and because of the heavy political focus. For people looking for swords & sorcery fantasy, it's going to be a turnoff. For those of us who like our fantasy a little darker and a bit more mature, with plots that go beyond "defeat the evil villain" and which actually make you think, The Witcher is brilliant.

Bioware attempt to play at the same strings with their Dragon Age games, but they don't come close. They are still caught up in black & white world building, even if they try to make things edgier through more complex NPCs. The Witcher games are the only CRPGs I can think of that offer this kind of depth in story these days.

Interesting...maybe I didn't get far enough in to see the game as not being black and white.  Everything in the dialog/story I came across seemed very clear cut to me.

Holy crow.  I don't know if this throws out any spoilers, but choosing who you side with is a major gray area thing to me, and not clear cut at all.

I know I'm going to jinx myself, but I'll just go ahead and say it.  I feel bad for you guys or gals who have felt motion sickness from gaming, as I've never experienced that from gaming, myself.  I wonder if it has something to do with how close you sit to the monitor or anything like that.  I had no problem with the original 62.5 or edited 90+ FOV.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blZUao2jTGA&list=FLAqwCYmmc28QiyG1I4OlyWA&index=2

In short if 62.5 bugs you, you're sitting too close Tongue

if 62.5 doesn't bug you, you are wrong. period.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blZUao2jTGA

not to mention this is a major cause of motion sickness in games. this is pc gaming, not the console peasant gaming. i bet you're ok with the shitty mouse lag  in menus too. this is why companies are allowed to get away with shit. don't fucking promote this like it's ok, it's not.

If 62.5 is wrong, than I don't want to be right.

No, I'm joking.  I think it's a preference thing sometimes, and for this game, I'm personally having no problem with 62.5.  There should be an easier way to adjust it, but you shouldn't just tell people flat out that they are wrong on something that's not factual.
