I'm just sitting pretty, waiting for my pre-loaded Witcher 3 to activate.

I get why they're doing it, but i hope it won't complicate the way their system works now, which is drm free and easy.

yeah, I don't want to sound crotchety or old, but teens of today make online gaming a bit more difficult to enjoy.  I get horsing around and having fun being a bit goofy, but I can't stand straight up trolls who only play for the sole purpose of griefing anyone and everyone they can.

I also like to be methodical and calculating, so these fast twitch FPS games like CoD or even Battlefield just don't really do it for me anymore.

Trolls and griefing have existed since the dawn of online gaming, heck I'd argue before then in the arcades.   FPS games are actually a bit slower these days thanks to consoles than they were 15 years ago, Quake/UT (especially instagib) are faster/twitchier than CoD etc.

OMG I forgot how much I hated those games.  There was no enjoyment at all to those games.  You couldn't enjoy scenery, utilize any real cover, or anything.  It was just run as fast as you can, jump around as much as possible, and get head shot every 15 seconds.

I keep thinking one of these shooter-style games is going to mix/change it up to allow for significantly different play-styles and skillsets to inter-mingle and all contribute in different ways, but still allow everyone to enjoy the overall experience together.  It just never seems to materialize the way I imagine it.  I'm wondering if Blizzard's Overwatch might be the game to do it.

The Arma series always did a good job of this, I thought.  It's much more important to be tactical, calculating, and have teamwork than it is to be a twitch shooter.  It's very realistic in that sense.  If you have a team of three against one opponent, it's extremely rare (but not impossible) that the one guy can take out all three, much like real life.

this whole thread is a relief for me.  I thought there was something wrong with me until I saw that my gripes with FC3 mirror what you've all been saying, but the game reviewed high on "professional" sites.  not saying that nobody should enjoy it, but I feel justified, and that I'm not missing out for some unknown reason.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Cinemaware Anthology on: November 25, 2014, 01:20:02 AM
it does not look like their rocket ranger kickstarter is doing very well.  it's been pretty stagnant for a bit, and that's with their goal being pretty low
8  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: AMD Raptr/Gaming Evolved (WTF?) on: July 17, 2014, 03:48:08 PM
if DOS was still the only way to operate a PC, than I'm pretty sure PC gaming would be dead by now.

I don't like all the emails and crap either, but I just click "unsubscribe" when I get the first email, and then all is well.
9  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Should my GTX 780 be running at 80 degC? on: April 30, 2014, 09:30:06 PM
I'm no expert on that card (or any card, really) but I don't think that 80*C is in the danger zone for cards anymore.  It seems that Nvidia cards run a little cooler than AMD cards lately, but it's not a huge difference.  I think you're ok.
10  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Watch Dogs Cheap preorder Uplay key on: April 22, 2014, 06:17:19 PM
I've heard a lot of places like this sell keys that work at first, but then companies catch up with the unlicensed key and remove the game from Steam accounts.  Just what's I've read, so I have no personal experience myself with it

just can't get into Farcry 3.  I want to like it, and I know how dumb this will sound, but the gameplay, or gunplay, is just too unrealistic.

I play 2k13 for pc, and don't know if it's worth going to 2k14.  i'm pretty sure the pc leaves out certain features that are only available for the PS and Xbox.  Makes no sense.

this looks like a fun game.

I'm interested, but just received a free game yesterday from wonderpug, and don't want to get greedy.  If nobody is interested after some time, i'll be happy to fire this up.

Got a few Steam codes myself to put up.

I liked Vietcong quite a bit too, but that came out years ago, so at the time, those were the standard graphics, maybe even quality graphics.  But that in a new game....not so much.

i don't want to sound all uppity, but those graphics really are appalling.  unless the gameplay is great, i don't see this being a purchase for me
24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: DayZ - Arma 2 Zombie Apocalypse Mod! (small AAR story included) on: December 17, 2013, 08:49:57 PM
I bought it, mainly because i can buy it now, or eventually buy it later, and I enjoyed the hell out of the original mod.

You're on the money when you refer to it as janky.  Still unintuitive as well.  took me a day to almost accidentally learn that you can rip your own shirt into rags to stop bleeding.  cool, but no guide to help at all.  I found the mod to be more intuitive at the end than this is, but I also see the potential and believe that many kinks will be ironed out.  Unless you're a diehard (or believe the price will go up when it's finished or even beta), I'd hold off.

Heh - It was scheduled to be done last christmas for crying out loud, and now they will enter beta state in about a year? Its hard to be excited about something like that.

Good point.  Remember when Dean Hall was telling the media "It will be done before 2013.  It must".  I think that was because WarZ was coming out, and he felt pressure to try to beat them.  Then, WarZ was awful, and all of a sudden Hall seemed to stop worrying about getting DayZ out so soon.

I can't believe there was not more excitement here about it.  I was giddy as a schoolgirl when i saw it available on Steam today.

I did get the 'Timeless Classic' surprise selection to finally pop.  It is MDK2 for $1.49.

It looks like they're either random or change over time, as my offer was Crusader : No Remorse for $1.79.
figured they might be doing that.

The recent secret title was Hammerwatch for $2.39

sorry.  i hate reading  j/k

I hope what i posted didn't read as though i was talking down to you.  i wasn't.  just basically posted my immediate thought.  i'd still be surprised if they put this out for ps3 or xb360.
30  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fallout 4 on: November 18, 2013, 06:53:49 AM
if they're just registering the trademark, then i'd think we're at least a year and probably more like 2 years away from release, meaning there's no way this would come out for ps3 or xb360

Amazon has started their countdown to Black Friday.

Yeah, I am eyeing their upcoming deal on the EVGA GTX 670 card..  normally retails for 400.00 if they can cut the price to 250.00 or less I might jump in

You could do better for the same $250 (as low as $235 on newegg recently) with the GTX 760.

But if you insist on the 670, i believe it can be had now for around $250 as well

Edit:

this GTX 670 is $219 after rebate

I have to say that 3 seems to be improved as far as performance goes.  It just seems to run more smoothly, maybe due to engine improvements.
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Telltale]The Walking Dead on: December 19, 2012, 07:08:35 PM
just finished this game.  well written, as i really felt a connection to the characters, especially Clementine.

On a side note, I recently bought this, and was able to just play through without waiting for new episodes to release.  For me, this worked out much better, play wise and price wise, and I'll be sure to always do this with Episode type games.
39  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NES Replay on: September 25, 2012, 01:55:14 AM
i read through the reviews, and then i remember that i rented most of those games as a kid.  what a horrible waste of money.  Especially Action 52.  should've had a class action suit against that company for creating that.
40  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: DayZ - Arma 2 Zombie Apocalypse Mod! (small AAR story included) on: September 07, 2012, 07:22:50 AM
anyone still playing this?  I've really been enjoying it, and have started getting into a role as a medic.  I like rolling up on someone who is in bad shape, and bandaging them up or giving them a transfusion.

The bandit/"player vs. player" is really what makes this game tense, as the zombies don't pose much threat once you figure out how they attack and that they can't run fast indoors.

If anyone is interested in teaming up, let me know.

Or am I the only one left playing this?
