Two 24 hour alerts up right now.  One gets you an Orakin Reactor and the other get you Forma.   The Forma mission was level 60+, think I might wait to do that one with people as opposed to trying to solo it.

I'm not sure I understand the backlash about bad guy characters.  Does this also apply to shows you watch as well?  I enjoy shows that are 'gritty' and show a side of life that I don't ever experience in real life...ditto games (though I've not played the GTA series...).

I'd prefer to play a GTA type game as a goodie two shoes character (Crackdown, for instance), and if I do play a bad guy I'd prefer to play as a complex conflicted bad guy, like Breaking Bad or kinda sorta what they attempted with GTA IV Niko.

I thought Sleeping Dogs had a great protagonist.

Why wouldn't you just keep playing on PC?  sometimes you make no sense.

Because I have a 55" TV with a kicking surround sound system and I like playing on the couch?   I mean it's not like you buy 360 games of shooters that have a version on the PC....

At least with Warframe it's a shared account and will be crossplay so I could easily alternate.

since I use the same monitor for both my consoles and my pc, I just play on it.  If a game is on console and PC, I typically buy just the 360 version to stem cheating/unfair advantages.  You can always just stream your pc input to your 55" tv and play on your couch right now with a 360 pad if that's your only concern.  Don't need a ps4 for that either.

Not really viable based on the distance from my office to my living room.  Wi-Fi is fine for internet, but it's too far for the 360 controller to work reliably.  I'd need to build a dedicated gaming PC for that room, which I have thought of from time to time.

I believe that between the new Kinect and the integrated TV functionality/voice stuff, that the Xbone will win people over. But it won't be at launch, and it may not be in the first 2-3 years. Consumers are going to have to catch up to the technology. The only way I can see the Xbone being a complete flop is if Microsoft failed to really invest and push those features that differentiate it, and I've never seen Microsoft afraid to throw barrels of money at something they believe in. I believe they do have a solid vision, and one that is cool as hell - they just haven't clearly articulated it.

I feel the TV stuff is 5 years too late.   The general trend is moving further and further away from live TV.   Nevermind DVRs, more and more people are just dumping cable entirely and using only streaming services, especially now where you can buy TV episodes the day after they air.   It doesn't strike me as forward looking at all.

I cancelled my PS4 preorder because the next few months of my life are looking to be mighty expensive, but the more I hear about how well the Oculus Rift is coming along the more I'm thinking that's an even better reason for me to pass on a PS4/Xbone purchase for the time being.  If my next gaming hardware purchase is a Rift and a new PC to support it, I'll be able to play most regular next-gen titles and the hot new VR stuff.

It's hard to predict the future of course, but I can easily envision being more excited about Rift "exclusives" than I am about PS4 or Xbone exclusives.

If I didn't have a nice gaming PC, I think I'd be giving the technical gap a lot more weight in my decision-making. As it stands, though, buying a PS4 would be essentially buying something I already own. So I'm still comfortable with sticking with the Xbox One pre-order. At this point I want a console that complements the gaming I do on my PC, but doesn't necessarily replace it.

If PS4 does turn out to be all that and a bag of chips, I'll spring for one down the road when my PC starts showing its age.
Again this is so damn weird to me as Xbox has traditionally had far more crossover with the PC than Playstation.  Just look at the two most anticipated games for the consoles coming out.  On the XB1 side, Titan Fall is coming to the PC, and on the Sony side Infamous: Second Son will never come to the PC.

PS4 more powerful, some dev commentary

http://www.edge-online.com/news/power-struggle-the-real-differences-between-ps4-and-xbox-one-performance/

I'm going to take a wild guess that it's EA that would be castrating their PS4 versions to lower them to be on par with XB1 to not offend Microsoft.

It won't be just EA.  I read that piece earlier this morning and it makes sense the multi-platform games will play to the lowest common denominator which would be the limitation of the XB1.

Eh, they will and they wont.  Over the long haul it will be like looking at a good PC port v a console game.   It's not like all our PC ports are capped at 30FPS and 1280x720.   You'll see those kind of differences show up with the PS4 and XB1 over time, with higher resolutions or framerates, the article even talks about that at the start

Quote
One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer.

I know, it's been on the forums for a while, but this is a real publication siting conversations with developers which makes it more noteworthy.

Actually I did.  Assuming you want to call one small paragraph an article.  I have no idea how you could assume I didn't read an article about the cost of the PS4 in Argentina based on what I posted.

My post was a joke (however poor) about how people keep criticizing Microsoft despite plenty of poor choices on the other side as well.  Charging over 10% of the average family's yearly income for a console would qualify as that.  The joke is that people will still find bigger things to criticize Microsoft about and ignore this.  Just like ignoring the fact that they're not launching in Japan for their "worldwide release".

But thanks for making your assumptions anyway.

The issue is the economy and inflation in Argentina, it's not Sony being ridiculous.

Even if the remote play functionality doesn't support streaming over the Internet, it would still allow you to set up your PS4 for multiple screens in your own home, which I'm sure would be a selling point for some people.

The intent is clearly over the internet as shown in the newest video where the girl plays Knack in the cafeteria.

Microsoft has reneged on many of the design decisions they made to placate customers. Not sure what punishing them for mistakes they've already corrected really accomplishes.

As far as the commercial goes, it was totally legit. With advertising, your goal is to differentiate yourself from the competition, not show how you're exactly the same.

Keep in mind this was the first commercial.  I think you have a bunch of hard core gamers that are feeling a bit jilted by Microsoft right now as they come to the realization that they are not the most important demographic for MS, which has been demonstrated at pretty much ever step of the way with the the XB1.  If they had done a game focused commercial before this I don't think you'd see nearly as many people upset.

Doesn't matter if the product isn't out or not, the policies and systems they announced and intended to launch with, before the major change were just plain silly. Otherwise, why did they end up changing it before the release? I'm calling those policies and systems crap, the kind of crap that is an example of my argument about MS's business culture.

Before E3, the market believed Sony was moving in the same direction - and they likely were, and decided instead to switch up garner gaming popularity rather than make their publishing partners happy. The licensing model still exists right now, with likely the software you're using to respond to this... it just wasn't across the board for all video game disks.

Online-only is clearly lifted from the smartphone market - and they were stupid to require a "heartbeat" - there was no good reason for that which I've explained before.

In three years, we'll see where disk vs online licensing sits. - but that all still doesn't validate yourclaim that a console you haven't played is "crap".

At one point in my life, I recall adults (as I was in my early teens) saying remote controls for TV were stupid, because you could just get up and change the channel. The "value-add" that the Xbone is offering is, IMO, the same value proposition. *IF* implemented well, this could well change the way we approach the home theater - no looking for remotes, no buying batteries for them, no line of sight issues with components and the remote.

I can't comment on the execution, since it's not out yet. The same has been said for your position.

The policies were crap, we don't need the system to be out to know these things, the system that is coming out is not the same as the one that was announced, not even only on the policy side but in software and even hardware.   Digital will eventually overtake physical media, it has happened in every medium and will happen here, the problem is it can not be forced and pushed down the customers' throats, it has to happen organically, you give people options, and they gravitate over.  Even Netflix still has a disk based service.  Microsoft's mistake was in trying to force the transition instead of just positioning themselves in a way to take advantage of the natural flow of it.

This is a primary driver behind me switching allegiances. The PS4 had a bunch of games I wanted to play on PS4 - the problem is I could also play them on my gaming PC. Ultimately I couldn't justify buying what would essentially be a box that does the exact same thing as my PC does (at least for awhile).
I don't think I follow here, are you going PC only?  That would make some sense, but switching allegiances makes it sound like you are going Xbox, and Xbox has far more PC crossover than Playstation in regards to titles on the PC.

The Windows Phone needs some help in the audio department, and they need to crack the corporate world - full, seamless integration with RDP, Exchange and Sharepoint would be huge. Not because everyone uses those things, but MS is one of the major backbones. IF they can convince corporations that their phones are more secure, better integrated and help business move forward, they'll be sending them home with employees regardless of the individuals desires.

Yep, that's pretty much what they should do and need to do.  Whether they can do it, we'll see.

I'm not sold on this.  Blackberry made that play to some degree, and the iPhone just swept through.  iPhone has gotten a lot better in regards to business integration, but in its early years it was a mess yet it was still the device for sales folks and executives to own.  We had to jump through a lot of hoops at my company to support it when it first came out.  In the end, cool and fun was more important than business functional.  Now times are different and the shine has worn off the iphone a bit, but just having really good business tools wont be enough.

Security (or the illusion of it) trumps all. Don't ask why - it simply does.

And that's why the iPhone beat Blackberry in corporations....oh wait the iPhone was an insecure mess when it came out.

However S8 was pretty fantastic and probably my favorite of the bunch. Found on YouTube there's gag reels from each of the seasons ("smeg ups") which are generally pretty fun to watch. And a "documentary" for S8 that was also pretty good too.  Hopefully they get S10 on Netflix. It can't be worse than 7 or 9.

I thought Season 10 was a return to form, felt much more like 5/6 than 7-9.  Probably not as good as the heights of RD but on a definite upswing from where it was.

Not a chance in hell.

The 360, like the PS3, will poof out of existence being supported by anyone in at most a year. I'm giving it 6 months.

Sony is putting out a bunch of AAA PS3 games at the same time as the PS4 launch, I expect them to support the PS3 for a while, they did with the PS2.   I don't have as much faith in regards to MS, but I think that 3rd parties will support the 360 for some time to come.  Titan Fall, for instance is set to have a 360 version at the same time as the XB1 version.

As mentioned, Sony has been working on this technology for far longer than the Oculus Rift people. It's reasonable to assume that Sony's goggles will be more technically advanced than the Oculus Rift, though the price is impossible to predict right now.

I know that Sony in the past have released a lot of crappy peripherals (e.g. Move) trying to play catchup.  I think it's a pretty bold statement to say whatever they come out with (if anything since this is just a rumour), it will be better than OR but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Move was much higher fidelity than both Kinect and Wii though.   Its issues were game support and that market already being cornered by the Wii, even if the Wiimote had less fidelity.
