That show had a really well run pit too, I saw someone fall over and immediately a group formed a barrier around the guy that went down and someone helped him up and out.

That has been standard moshpit etiquette (for lack of a better term) for as long as I've been going to metal shows.  Maybe the nu-metal crowd is different animal though...

Yeah it was when I first started going to shows, and then at some point the pits got overrun by assholes with no sense of etiquette, but they've seem to come back around.

Yeah there's an appropriate age.  I was at a Korn show recently with my cousin (hey he had free tickets) and we sat up in the balcony and were next to a cool couple
who had brought their 16 or 17 year old son who was down in the mosh pit.  The dad was clearly and old mosher himself and kept a keen eye on his kid from up in the balcony while letting his kid run solo and not be totally embarrassed by the old man.  It was really rather cute.  That show had a really well run pit too, I saw someone
fall over and immediately a group formed a barrier around the guy that went down and someone helped him up and out.  There was a period of time around here when the moshpit went to complete shit so it was nice to see a well run one again.

I second Curve and Tom Waits and Beastie Boys (came so close to see them 3 times... frown)

Wednesday I'm going to see Cibo Matto biggrin In recent months I've seen Peter Murphy doing all Bauhaus, New Order doing 5 Joy Division songs as an encore, peter Hook & The Light giving his take on early New Order (which was awesome), Mudhoney, Melvins, Dead Milkmen, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Atoms For Peace, Queens of the Stone Age and Skinny Puppy.

I'm gonna see Gary Numan, Les Claypool, King Buzzo acoustic(!), and maybe even Neil Young in March. In May I'm going to Psych Fest, 3 days of obscure psychedelic bands.

I love Austin biggrin

Just saw Skinny Puppy Saturday and it was another great show by them, my 3rd time seeing them.  I'll be seeing Gary Numan  again in a few weeks as well.  Also saw that Peter Murphy Bahaus set up here in Boston.   We seem to have similar tastes, if you haven't seen Killing Joke I'd recommend you do if they come around again,  they are getting a bit old, but their last tour was awesome.

Also in two weeks I'll be seeing Throwing Muses with Tanya Donnelly opening, that has a lot of potential to be a great show.

Yeah, it was my 3rd Puppy show- always a blast. I actually took my 15 year-old son who recently started considering them his favorite band in the last 6 months or so.

I'm a huge Martin Atkins fan, but never really got into Killing Joke. Which brings me to my next "wish I'd seen": Pigface (original lineup)

Then you're raising that boy right.  On the father son front and getting back to the first post, I took my dad to see AC/DC on their last tour.  Not my or his first time seeing them, but was fun to share with him now that I'm much older as they've always been his favorite band and at 60+ not something he'd go to on his own.  I also managed to get our tickets upgraded at the show too from nosebleeds to lower field!

Played hardpoint last night for about 90 mins and yes it totally changed my opinion of the game.

I went back and played Attrition and I think its kind of a terrible mode.  It has all the normal TDM problems sort of magnified by the games speed.  Both Hardpoint an Last Titan Standing are pretty good though.  Hardpoint by introducing direction to the chaos, and LTS by limiting respawns CS style controls the chaos.   I just found Attrition to be a mess,  and I could never get a handle on how to play it effectively whereas in HP and LTS I can do quite well and MVP is not out of the question.   I personally think pushing people new to the game to play Attrition first  in the beta is a bit of a small misstep by Respawn.

The settings that msduncan is using sound great to me.

What settings? Control settings? I'm wondering if this has controller support on the PC. Downloaded it and went thru the training missions last night and I'm thinking I'd rather play with a controller. And no I don't have a xbone yet so that isn't an option.

I'm pretty sure he was looking at the wrong post as msduncan is on XB1.  The game supports controllers on PC, and it doesn't seem very system intensive.

Ugh, 'free to play' on a feature list continues to throw up gigantic red flags for me.  Even the "but you can try it for free to see if you like it!" angle doesn't work for me, because I'd find it supremely annoying if I did like it only to run into a paywall scheme I can't stand.
A lot of free to play stuff on the PC is quite good.   League of Legends, Smite, Dota2, Warframe, and Loadout all spring to mind.

OMG Titanfall is awesome.

System seller if you don't have an Xbox One.

System justifier if you do.

Depends on if you don't have a medium range PC to play it on and how good the 360 port is.   I'm running it on PC at 1900x1080 everything high and it's a solid 60.

Also although I like it,  I'm not WOWed, still on the fence if I'll get the full version for PC or not.

Definitely prefer Hardpoint to Attrition.

Also kind of wish it didn't have aim down sites accuracy changes, but at least there are some guns that you can just hipfire.  Loadout is kind of the same way in that regards.

I can understand your mention of the ADS in Loadout, but it makes absolutely no sense in this game. ADS is incredibly useful here.

Also PC, Cheats, they will come and faster than on console.  It's still a reason to play on console imo.  (also you have obviously entered this with a prepared opinion unfortunately.  What happened to the unbiased Forge I once knew!  ninja )

I do hope the company doing the 360 port doesn't screw things up though.  Would be great for people who don't have a XB1 or great PC to be able to play this one.

The movement is so fast and fluid it's a shame to have to ADS for the accuracy boost, and slow you down.  I just long for the Quake/UT days as I'm tired of ADS as a necessity.  Like I said though you can hipfire some guns effectively in this, I just wish they got rid of the accuracy boost entirely and just used it for zoom.

And Hark, I could just as easily argue you came with a prepared opinion and are biased too.  ninja

Btw, I really want a PS Vita... I just can't justify the cost and I'm afraid that I'll buy it and hardly play it

There may not be a next time, outside of the generic consoles are doomed talk, Microsoft's investors have been pushing for them to dump Xbox for a long time now, and that was when it was doing well! If it under-performs they are going to get really noisy.

Should we have a general console sales data thread instead of this monster?

Anyhoo, January numbers are out, and Microsoft uncharacteristically has declined to release numbers.  From what's been put together from the released information and tweets of folks like Geoff Keighley the PS4 outsold the XB1 by almost 2 to 1.   Tomb Raider on PS4 also supposedly roughly doubled XB1 sales.   PS4 lead on pretty much all multiplatform titles for the month except CoD Ghosts (and maybe Lego too).  XB1 did not seem supply strained in January, generally having store availability.   Less said about Wii U the better.

I really wish they would lose that angle on these games as it's the worst part about them and they don't seem to know how to improve on it.  If not lose it outright, just give me an option at the start to choose a pure good or evil play-through and hide all the choices from me.

haven't seen that before Forge, but that's exactly the case in Dark Souls.  If you think there isn't any feedback to tell you what you did wrong, you just aren't looking at it.

People are too used to hand holding and/or on rails gameplay that any time the screen doesn't flash 'YOU DIDN'T PRESS THE X BUTTON FAST ENOUGH, TRY AGAIN' they seem to miss it or just assume it's too hard and move on to another game.

Honestly Harkonis, I find this remark condescending and obnoxious. I've been playing these games for 25 years and I don't need hand holding or rails. DS just got to a point for me that it wasn't fun and I don't need people telling me I'm doing it wrong or I don't get. It's a great game for players that it clicks for. But there are a great many people for whom it didn't.  I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, but I don't think that's the best way to express it.

Then say it didn't click for you in the first place instead of saying the game doesn't provide feedback, which it actually does in most cases.

As you learn to the play the game that happens less often as well.  The game teaches you to be cautious and alert to your surroundings.  Usually if you die, outside of a boss fight, it's because you've gotten careless.

No, I think that's wrong. Sorry, but Dark Souls is filled with absolutely terrible gameplay and level design that only gets a pass because the designers and community put up a facade of hardcoreness.

The reality of it is, you die plenty of times from crappy camera control, crappy player control, poor animations with little control over swings, poor physics, along with poor creature, level, and encounter design that just highlights it.

I think Dark Souls is a good game, that does a lot of interesting things, but it gets way too much credit for what is essentially sloppy work in basic combat and movement gameplay.

There's a real opportunity for someone to make a hardcore game without the level of sloppiness and jank that Dark Souls has. Dark Soul gets a free pass due to it helping to bring back difficulty in console games, but we can do better.

Wow you are so off base in a lot of ways.  DS gets combat right.  Knowing the animations of your weapons is important, knowing if you have a fast or slow weapon, its reach, and arc of attack.  This isn't DMC or God of War, it's not about combos, it's about looking for openings.  Even new games like Lords of the Fallen seem to be taking queues from Dark Souls combat.   Heck here's a combat assessment as compared to reality  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXGns-R8KkM
