that's old news, since then microsoft has said you can't on xb1

Oh, well that sucks.

Yeah sucks big time.

For a company that was trying to force everyone into an all-digital future, they sure have done quite the about-face.

Eh not really, they were still trying to sell you disks back then too as the delivery model.

Hopefully it gets a bit more attention than it did on PC.

Pretty sure 360 version does NOT support split screen though.

Local co-op is apparently stripped down

Quote
Sadly, split-screen is limited to a pared-down Garden Ops mode that's only playable offline, and player two can't earn coins or achievements. While it is nice that some sort of concession was made to even allow split-screen in the first place, it's a shame that the second player can't earn their own rewards or play online in general. With those options, Warfare would be a force to be reckoned with in terms of local play.

Also I think it's super dumb that EA went exclusive (timed at least) with this so close to Titanfall.  They could have done well on PS4/PS3 and not had to worry about eating their own sales with Titanfall.

PS4 did 322k over the weekend for the Japan launch.  Seems decent but not amazing.

Here's how it compares to other console launches there

1998.11.27 [Sega Dreamcast] (29.800) - 101.490 (3 days)
2000.03.04 [Sony PlayStation 2] (39.800) - 630.552 (2 days)
2001.09.14 [Nintendo GameCube] (25.000) - 133.719 (3 days)
2002.02.22 [Microsoft XBox] (34.800) - 123.929 (3 days)
2005.12.10 [Microsoft XBox 360] (29.000 / 39.795) - 62.135 (2 days)
2006.11.11 [Sony PlayStation 3] (49.980 / 59.980) - 88.443 (2 days)
2006.12.02 [Nintendo Wii] (25.000) - 371.936 (2 days)
2012.12.08 [Nintendo Wii U] (26.250 / 31.500) - 308.570 (2 days)

I think I kind of agree with Gerstmann on this one.  I like it, and it's fun but I can't help but feel there's a better game trying to break out of it.

360 version still set to come out before quarter end though.

I also find the complete lack of media for the 360 version a bit odd.  I don't think we've seen a single screenshot of that version have we?

I also think from the XB1 side, the game has the issue of not really being an XB1 exclusive, with what seemed from the beta of an excellent PC version, and the unknown quality of the 360 version.  I feel like MS must have pushed EA to delay that 360 version a couple of weeks to try and drive XB1 sales.

Or we can just take Respawn's word for it - the 360 version is being done by a different developer that needs more time, instead of resorting to ridiculous conspiracy theories designed to imply that XB1 sales are in the toilet.

Two weeks is practically nothing in development terms.  Look at Watchdogs and Driveclub as counterpoints, those games have gotten BIG delays for further dev time.

I think the 360 will be a bigger threat than the PC to the sales numbers of the XB1 version, but it'll interesting to see how the numbers play out.

I almost think they should have completely scrapped the 360 version.  It just seems lose/lose.  If the port is fantastic, Titanfall becomes less of an XB1 system seller.  If the port is terrible, well, you get a lot of unhappy people complaining about how terrible the port is.  It has to be good enough for people to love it but bad enough for people to be driven to upgrade their system.

Are they doing a 360 > XB1 version upgrade deal like they did for those launch window titles?  Seems like it would be exceedingly foolish not to.

You got to remember this isn't a Microsoft game, and you'd be asking EA to give up even more sales.  MS may have even proposed it but the number EA threw out may have been too high.  Also remember EA wants this to be their CoD, they want to expose as many people as possible, so in that regard going exclusive to one brand may not have been their smartest move.

I'll all for this franchise going cross-platform, but the way this is turning into the XB1 showcase game right now I think there's a good chance Microsoft will give EA/Respawn a blank check to keep the next game exclusive.

This game is in a weird spot as I'm pretty sure MS underpaid EA.  I say a weird spot, because if it does poorly then the MS deal was good for EA, but if it does well EA short changed themselves.  PS4 has done gangbusters with over 5.3 million sold now, I'm sure beyond what EA forcasted, and on top of that all of EA's games are selling better on the PS4 than the XB1, and I'd wager real money that when they used their lost sales calculations they were basing it on 360/PS3 percentages where the 360 versions always outsold the PS3 versions.

I'd add David Bowie to the list...especially since I had a chance to see him back in college and passed on it.  Was during the NIN/Bowie tour in the mid-90's, and I was a DJ at the campus radio station.  We got some free tickets to the show, but while I loved NIN, I wasn't really that into Bowie yet.  (This was Earthling/Outside-era Bowie, which is still my least favorite phase of his.)  I decided the 2 hour drive from Pueblo to Denver wasn't worth it just to see NIN as an opening act, so I skipped on the show all together.  Totally kicking myself over that decision, as I'm pretty sure I'd donate my left nut to see a Bowie/NIN show today.  frown

They did a great transition between NiN and Bowie for that tour.  The band members slowly swapping, and NiN doing a Bowie cover leading into Bowie doing a NiN cover.

That show had a really well run pit too, I saw someone fall over and immediately a group formed a barrier around the guy that went down and someone helped him up and out.

That has been standard moshpit etiquette (for lack of a better term) for as long as I've been going to metal shows.  Maybe the nu-metal crowd is different animal though...

Yeah it was when I first started going to shows, and then at some point the pits got overrun by assholes with no sense of etiquette, but they've seem to come back around.

Yeah there's an appropriate age.  I was at a Korn show recently with my cousin (hey he had free tickets) and we sat up in the balcony and were next to a cool couple
who had brought their 16 or 17 year old son who was down in the mosh pit.  The dad was clearly and old mosher himself and kept a keen eye on his kid from up in the balcony while letting his kid run solo and not be totally embarrassed by the old man.  It was really rather cute.  That show had a really well run pit too, I saw someone
fall over and immediately a group formed a barrier around the guy that went down and someone helped him up and out.  There was a period of time around here when the moshpit went to complete shit so it was nice to see a well run one again.

I second Curve and Tom Waits and Beastie Boys (came so close to see them 3 times... frown)

Wednesday I'm going to see Cibo Matto biggrin In recent months I've seen Peter Murphy doing all Bauhaus, New Order doing 5 Joy Division songs as an encore, peter Hook & The Light giving his take on early New Order (which was awesome), Mudhoney, Melvins, Dead Milkmen, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Atoms For Peace, Queens of the Stone Age and Skinny Puppy.

I'm gonna see Gary Numan, Les Claypool, King Buzzo acoustic(!), and maybe even Neil Young in March. In May I'm going to Psych Fest, 3 days of obscure psychedelic bands.

I love Austin biggrin

Just saw Skinny Puppy Saturday and it was another great show by them, my 3rd time seeing them.  I'll be seeing Gary Numan  again in a few weeks as well.  Also saw that Peter Murphy Bahaus set up here in Boston.   We seem to have similar tastes, if you haven't seen Killing Joke I'd recommend you do if they come around again,  they are getting a bit old, but their last tour was awesome.

Also in two weeks I'll be seeing Throwing Muses with Tanya Donnelly opening, that has a lot of potential to be a great show.

Yeah, it was my 3rd Puppy show- always a blast. I actually took my 15 year-old son who recently started considering them his favorite band in the last 6 months or so.

I'm a huge Martin Atkins fan, but never really got into Killing Joke. Which brings me to my next "wish I'd seen": Pigface (original lineup)

Then you're raising that boy right.  On the father son front and getting back to the first post, I took my dad to see AC/DC on their last tour.  Not my or his first time seeing them, but was fun to share with him now that I'm much older as they've always been his favorite band and at 60+ not something he'd go to on his own.  I also managed to get our tickets upgraded at the show too from nosebleeds to lower field!

Played hardpoint last night for about 90 mins and yes it totally changed my opinion of the game.

I went back and played Attrition and I think its kind of a terrible mode.  It has all the normal TDM problems sort of magnified by the games speed.  Both Hardpoint an Last Titan Standing are pretty good though.  Hardpoint by introducing direction to the chaos, and LTS by limiting respawns CS style controls the chaos.   I just found Attrition to be a mess,  and I could never get a handle on how to play it effectively whereas in HP and LTS I can do quite well and MVP is not out of the question.   I personally think pushing people new to the game to play Attrition first  in the beta is a bit of a small misstep by Respawn.

OMG Titanfall is awesome.

System seller if you don't have an Xbox One.

System justifier if you do.

Depends on if you don't have a medium range PC to play it on and how good the 360 port is.   I'm running it on PC at 1900x1080 everything high and it's a solid 60.

Also although I like it,  I'm not WOWed, still on the fence if I'll get the full version for PC or not.

Definitely prefer Hardpoint to Attrition.

Also kind of wish it didn't have aim down sites accuracy changes, but at least there are some guns that you can just hipfire.  Loadout is kind of the same way in that regards.

I can understand your mention of the ADS in Loadout, but it makes absolutely no sense in this game. ADS is incredibly useful here.

Also PC, Cheats, they will come and faster than on console.  It's still a reason to play on console imo.  (also you have obviously entered this with a prepared opinion unfortunately.  What happened to the unbiased Forge I once knew!  ninja )

I do hope the company doing the 360 port doesn't screw things up though.  Would be great for people who don't have a XB1 or great PC to be able to play this one.

The movement is so fast and fluid it's a shame to have to ADS for the accuracy boost, and slow you down.  I just long for the Quake/UT days as I'm tired of ADS as a necessity.  Like I said though you can hipfire some guns effectively in this, I just wish they got rid of the accuracy boost entirely and just used it for zoom.

And Hark, I could just as easily argue you came with a prepared opinion and are biased too.  ninja

Should we have a general console sales data thread instead of this monster?

Anyhoo, January numbers are out, and Microsoft uncharacteristically has declined to release numbers.  From what's been put together from the released information and tweets of folks like Geoff Keighley the PS4 outsold the XB1 by almost 2 to 1.   Tomb Raider on PS4 also supposedly roughly doubled XB1 sales.   PS4 lead on pretty much all multiplatform titles for the month except CoD Ghosts (and maybe Lego too).  XB1 did not seem supply strained in January, generally having store availability.   Less said about Wii U the better.
