Buyers make decisions on past products, regardless if it's fair. There is enough press saying the controller is significantly different. We'll see. smile

Then that must mean people won't buy the XBO because of all the red ring issues the 360 had.  I know it's one of the many reasons I am giving the hardware until next year until I buy one.

Yes - I know people that won't buy a 360 slim for the same reason. I'm leery of Sony's network due to their snafu with my personal info and poor security.

Well Microsoft isn't exactly on great footing here either.  I know several people that had their accounts hacked during the Fifa scam nonsense that went down.  And while the Sony hacking incident was a problem, I didn't know of it directly impacting anyone as opposed to the Xbox hacks, where I had multiple friends hacked, lose money/points, and lose their online access for a month or longer while it was sorted out.

Is this what you're talking about?

It wasn't a direct MS breach of their network. It was social engineering and fraudulent calls. The same kinds of calls that can happen in any industry.

That doesn't pass muster and they've never really come clean about went down IMO.  It was way too widespread, and there were a lot of anecdotal reports of people with unique complex passwords having their accounts compromised.  There was either a flaw in their system or it was an inside job by their support team.

The PS4 would have outsold Xbox at launch regardless of the bad press. Launches are decided on cost, and a $100 difference in cost is not insignificant.

You underestimate the power of brand loyalty.

It can also be preference for the way one company does things over the other....and controller slywink.
Unless you've had hands on time with the PS4 and XB1 controller, making a decision based on those seems a bit silly.   They are both redesigned from current gen, and in the PS4 case rather significantly.

Not a fan of the fitness thing. Another subscription for my Xbox..no thanks.

Anyway, cancelled my Xbox One preorder. Still have my PS4 preorder. I came to the realization that the two games I wanted on Xbox One, Ryse and Dead Rising 3, are getting not so hot impressions. Not interested in Forza and all the multipat games that I want: AC4, Watch Dogs, BF4.....will have exclusive things for the PS4 and look better on the PS4. It just made no sense to get the XB1 at this time.

this might end up being true, but we don't know this at this point, you're making stuff up aren't you?   icon_twisted

Ryse may turn out ok,  but it's certainly gotten a lot of negative impressions beyond that kotaku article.  The multiplayer showed quite poorly at pax and spawned several gifs making fun of it.

You guys are actually going to take the Killzone bait again?

I like the look of the gameplay changes they've made from 2.  I never played 3.  The more open levels combined with the cool shit you can do with the Owl seem to set this apart.  CoD has zero interest to me, BF4 maybe.
974  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors begin. on: September 25, 2013, 02:26:25 PM
Driveclub and Resogun with PS+.  I'd get Resogun even if I had to buy it even.

Probably Killzone, and I'm leaning towards AC4 over Watch Dogs.  That may depend on reviews.

They should stay out of the thread then.

Well then thanks for being a dick.   finger

People clearly stated earlier in the thread that they were thankful for the use of spoilers and appreciated being able to read the thread without specific things being spoiled.  But I guess that's just too hard for you asshats.

Spoiler tags in regards to an ongoing TV show just hampers discussion.  What are we going to post if it's not essentially a spoiler, other than some vague I like/dislike the direction of the show, which is pointless without context.  It's not really analogous to a movie where people are looking to see if it's worth their time to go out and spend their money on it or not, we are talking about a show in its fifth season here.

Let's not forget EA and the like have started loading $60 games with micro transactions as well.  Dead Space 3 for instance  ME3 multiplayer had the gambling real money on packs angle, and nevermind the Fifa nonsense that led to so many xbox accounts getting hacked.
985  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: on: September 21, 2013, 12:45:47 PM
It depends on the monetization.  I spend a lot of time and little money in f2p games these days so it really doesn't bother me though I can see how someone looking for a sprawling single player RPG might be disappointed.  Instead we are getting a co-op dungeon crawler with random loot and dungeons which sounds pretty ok to me.
986  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4] Deep Down on: September 21, 2013, 03:05:43 AM
So apparently this is going to be free to play.  So that with the random dungeons makes this seem like Dark Souls X Warframe.

I didn't even know the two Star Wars games in the top 10 were released on the PC. But then I'm a Gen Xer too so maybe I'm outside the "our generation" qualification.
Rogue Squadron was not better than Tie Fighter, or heck X-Wing Alliance.  Also if you're going to pick a Rogue Squadron game I'd give it to RS2 for the Hoth sequence alone.

RS2 didn't come out for the PC.  I did have Pod Racer on the PC, RS 1 I had to google to make sure it wasn't a mistake.

Being a PC only list just makes RS over Tie Fighter or X-wing even more inexplicable.

I'm not sure I understand the backlash about bad guy characters.  Does this also apply to shows you watch as well?  I enjoy shows that are 'gritty' and show a side of life that I don't ever experience in real life...ditto games (though I've not played the GTA series...).

I'd prefer to play a GTA type game as a goodie two shoes character (Crackdown, for instance), and if I do play a bad guy I'd prefer to play as a complex conflicted bad guy, like Breaking Bad or kinda sorta what they attempted with GTA IV Niko.

I thought Sleeping Dogs had a great protagonist.

Why wouldn't you just keep playing on PC?  sometimes you make no sense.

Because I have a 55" TV with a kicking surround sound system and I like playing on the couch?   I mean it's not like you buy 360 games of shooters that have a version on the PC....

At least with Warframe it's a shared account and will be crossplay so I could easily alternate.

since I use the same monitor for both my consoles and my pc, I just play on it.  If a game is on console and PC, I typically buy just the 360 version to stem cheating/unfair advantages.  You can always just stream your pc input to your 55" tv and play on your couch right now with a 360 pad if that's your only concern.  Don't need a ps4 for that either.

Not really viable based on the distance from my office to my living room.  Wi-Fi is fine for internet, but it's too far for the 360 controller to work reliably.  I'd need to build a dedicated gaming PC for that room, which I have thought of from time to time.

I believe that between the new Kinect and the integrated TV functionality/voice stuff, that the Xbone will win people over. But it won't be at launch, and it may not be in the first 2-3 years. Consumers are going to have to catch up to the technology. The only way I can see the Xbone being a complete flop is if Microsoft failed to really invest and push those features that differentiate it, and I've never seen Microsoft afraid to throw barrels of money at something they believe in. I believe they do have a solid vision, and one that is cool as hell - they just haven't clearly articulated it.

I feel the TV stuff is 5 years too late.   The general trend is moving further and further away from live TV.   Nevermind DVRs, more and more people are just dumping cable entirely and using only streaming services, especially now where you can buy TV episodes the day after they air.   It doesn't strike me as forward looking at all.
