For a show that's based on a Card Battle Game, Rage of Bahamut is surprisingly awesome.  In the running for best new anime of the year I'd say.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-meX7dpotzA

High fantasy, focusing on two bounty hunters, one noble, the other a scoundrel, who get rapped up in a potentially world ending scenario unbeknownst to them.

The first episode is a must watch at the very least, it's on Funimation's site.

Interestingly enough, the Xbox One version of Destiny supposedly sold more than the PS4 version. But then again, Microsoft was giving a free game away that month with a console purchase, and the bundled PS4 version wasn't counted.

Yeah the Destiny sales by platform is tough to know without that PS4 bundle information.  I think Sony was claiming to be the #1 platform for it though.  Basically from the released information all we know is that the amount of (existing XB1 owners who purchased Destiny XB1 + the people that purchased an XB1 with a free copy of Destiny) >  existing PS4 owners who purchased Destiny PS4.   The XB1 free game was a sales promotion and not a bundle so the free game gets counted as part of NPD, while the PS4 Destiny bundle included the game in the box, so it's not counted.  Neither counts digital sales, but I would imagine that the % of digital purchases v. retail is going to be roughly the same on both consoles.

why do we even care or need to have an relationship element at all.  Stupid.

Because we are people and people enjoy relationships with other people?   icon_wink

Honestly I think it adds tremendously to the richness of a game world when you start to actually care more about the characters you are interacting with.  And if the game relationships are well developed, the way the characters react to you should also have more depth and nuance if there is a "relationship element."  More so if the relationship was developed because of choices I made in the game as opposed to just linearly pushed forward by a fixed storyline.

If it's all done right, it can be a major game changer IMHO.  I really enjoyed Alistair in DA and I have to admit I kind of had a crush on him (as much as you can have a crush on a computer character); he's one of the few game characters from any game I actually remember fondly.  I didn't know at the time that romance options weren't possible with him, but just on the chance they were, I always steered my gameplay decisions in that direction.

Back to DA:I, I'm a little disappointed that I can't get Cullen.  That Dorian guy looks lame and that bull thing looks scary.

I agree with you a little but lets be honest it is because sex sells.  Frodo and Sam had a very deep, nuanced, relationship without sex but that don't try to emulate that in Dragon Age.  Instead you get lot of different sex scenes.  (Dragon Age: Origins - All Romances/Sex Scenes)

I don't really have a problem with it but I don't think for a minute those scenes are in there so we get a deeper story.

I don't know, Bioware has done well with the platonic relationships as well.  While Garrus was romance-able for female Shepard, as male Shepard his friendship was extremely well handled.

If you didn't play Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep you should really go back and play that one. It's so good.

It's good, but the gimmick it employs I thought was better used in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, which I played just weeks before the Borderlands DLC came out.

Recently hit 70 with my Crusader, using a Lightning-Hammerdin build I found on the forums.  For the pros out there, what's the most efficient way to gear up for higher level torment?  I'm talking T2 and up, I can solo a T1 Greater Rift in under 15 minutes pretty easily.  Last time I tried T2 it was downright brutal, but I think my DPS was only around 150K.  I've since picked up quite a few set and legendary items, so now it's pushing 300K.  This morning I was actually able to clear a GR11.  When I started I don't think I made it past GR6.  If I'm not mistaken 12 is where torment 2 kicks in, so that's why I'm thinking I may need to gear up just a bit more to be safe.

One thing I find odd is I'm picking up legendary weapons, but their DPS is over 1K or more less than the yellow I picked up gambling when I started.  Do the higher stats only drop in torment?  Is it best to farm bosses in adventure mode on torment, run regular rifts, or run greater?

Run Greater Rifts and regular rifts in Torment.  I don't think your difficulty setting matters for greater rifts.  If you are looking for gear it's best to fail the trial so you start at GR1.

I just remembered why the developers being in Cambridge MA and their name, The Molasses Flood, sounded familiar. It's a homage to the Boston Molasses Disaster, of which I think I even have a book about, somewhere around here.

Quote
The Boston Molasses Disaster, also known as the Great Molasses Flood and the Great Boston Molasses Tragedy, occurred on January 15, 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. A large molasses storage tank burst, and a wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 mph (56 km/h), killing 21 and injuring 150. The event has entered local folklore, and for decades afterward, residents claimed that on hot summer days, the area still smelled of molasses.

My grandfather got caught in that as a child and had a plate in his foot as a result.

I've been on the defensive side of this debate so far which is strange because graphics are a critical aspect of a game for me. But you simply can't tell the difference between 900p and 1080p and it's ridiculous how much people are complaining about it. The resolution drama is so arbitrary.

I respect your opinion, but this is simply wrong. The idea that people can't tell the various near-HD resolutions apart from actual HD resolutions comes from a chart that has been widely distributed in discussions like these, but that chart is factually wrong. People with normal eyesight can see individual pixels, even at 1080p resolution, from a surprisingly long range.

That chart was also based on film, which is effectively a form of downsampling.  Games are rendering at resolution which is where res has a greater impact.

Who cares about the resolution? You can't even tell the difference between 900 and 1080. When the PS4 version of Black Flag got patched with the higher resolution I could not discern the increase, and I'm a certified graphics whore. It's the framerate that bums me out as I was hoping for 60fps.

A comment from someone on the Ubi team has made me worried about these consoles, he basically said that AI is processed by the CPU and that the PS4/Xbox are not powerful enough to handle the game above 30FPS (steadily) because of it. Granted, AC games tend to have more AI characters on screen at once than most games, but it's still disheartening. I'm hoping the limitation is overcome as time goes on or at least only applies to open-world games of this magnitude.

I absolutely could tell the difference pre/post patch.

The actual resolutions aren't the real story though, it's a developer saying they are intentionally not taking full advantage of hardware to keep both versions at parity.  That's nonsense.  Can you imagine if the PC version was limited to 900P/30FPS to exactly match the console versions?  Do you think THAT would go over well, with a "you can't tell the difference" ?

The difference you noticed has less to do with the resolution increasing and more to do with other graphical effects being tweaked, that's my understanding of it, at least. In most games where they've compared Xbox One's lower resolution to PS4's higher resolution, the difference was nearly impossible to discern.

From Ubisoft on the AC4 patch (link):

"The most important part of this title update is not necessarily 1080p native resolution," said associate producer Sylvain Trottier in a blog post announcing the patch. "It's the fact that even when we were done with the project, even when we were finished with the certification and everything else, even when most of the engineers had started to work on other projects--like we always do at Ubisoft--some of my engineers continued to work on Black Flag and they even developed a brand-new anti-aliasing technique."

I can tell Battlefield 4 is a lower res on PS4 than most other games I own as well.  The degree to which the difference has an impact on quality is debatable, but I can certainly notice it is there.

I like this game, but I am seriously terrible at it.  Which is odd, as I never really had much trouble with the AC games.  It's a little frustrating that anytime you get spotted, you're immediately surrounded by a dozen enemies.  I haven't been able to get the hang of combat yet, and I'm afraid I'm going to break the game with the number of Orcs that are getting promoted because they killed me.

Did you not play the Batman games? The combat is practically the exact same as those.
Early on don't be afraid to run.  Later with some upgrades you can stand in a crowd of 30+ orcs and easily wipe the floor with them.

In combat you want to build your combo so you can use your execution moves, don't just stand around trying to parry like in AC.
100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: October 07, 2014, 06:49:17 PM
When games are CPU bound it usually doesn't impact resolution, that's why the framerate still sucks when you keep dropping the res on some PC titles.

I had a great run with the game yesterday.  Right after I started, I ran into a gang of captains and took out two of them.  The combat is very smooth and I love the little changes they made like the instant executions and saving moves when you get knocked down.  Like others have said, the game does a great job of balancing a bad-ass with vulnerability.

Instant Takedowns were in the Batman games.  The combat is pretty much straight from them, right down to what the buttons do, square/X attacks, triangle/y counters, circle/B stuns, x/A vault/rolls, left trigger throws batterang/dagger.   Even the hit streak having to hit  8x to enable the instant finisher is the same.

Those saving moves are new though I think and pretty cool.

Some site was reporting the XB1 version was 720p/30FPS compared to the PS4 being 1080P/60FPS.   I'll be kind of surprised if that's true though as that kind of performance gap seems too large from what we've seen of the graphics of the game.  Typically we've only been seeing a difference in FPS or resolution, usually not both to such a large degree as the numbers above.

Digital Foundry should have a detailed analysis out post release I'm sure.

Honestly, I'm only logging in to play with you guys, but not seeing positive movement for my Warlock just irks me.   Anyway, I like the game just wish loot dropped more frequently like D3

Are you on the PS4 and if so what's your name on there? I'm at the same spot as you, I would love to do the Queen missions but they are too hard solo, and the game doesn't auto group it for you. Which means it's next to impossible to pug the mission since Destiny's chat and group finding is non existent.

I mostly play from 5:30 am until 7 am and then again from 9:00 pm until 12 eastern time.

I can help you out Scraper, I'm on PS4 and can usually handle them solo.  Think I'm at level 27 roughly now.
