You can try to take out some enemies while hanging from ledges, only the game doesn't give you enough ammo (or the opportunity to pick up any without being shot to death) to do it. No grenades either. It took me about 10 tries to get through this part, and I didn't enjoy it in the slightest.

It goes for combat in general here. Most times when an encounter can be stealthed and I'm caught, I get shot to pieces before I even have a chance to get my bearings and fight back. If it wasn't for the stealth, I'd have a really hard time getting through this game, and this is on the normal difficulty level! The earlier games were a cakewalk compared to this.

The only fight that struck me as a bit unbalanced was near the end of the game in the
Spoiler for Hiden:
ship graveyard.
The game this time around encourages more movement to reestablish stealth or find better cover. Still I feel U3 was far worse in regards to getting killed by flanking enemies from nowhere.

Also remember you can use swimming to break LOS and lose the enemies, this helps in a couple of the encounters which take place around water.

What I would say is the problem of the game design is that they space out the big combat scenarios more than I think in the past games which can lead to not really becoming familiar with flow of the combat loop. I think the game might have been better served by more frequent but smaller combat sections. The same final enemy total, just spread out more across the game.

You don't magically get more stat points, they have to come from somewhere.  The red stats are the base stats you started the game with, when you respec it refunds all points from leveling and you need to reallocate them all as you see fit. The pool is the top left, notice the White level number -> Red level number, you get to allocate stats until the red number equals the white number.

Umm, yeah? I mean how else would a respec work? Rosaria basically resets you to base stats and you get to reallocate all points.

Yeah this was the Overwatch beta weekend. I had a lot of fun with it but not sure I'll get the full thing. I far preferred this on PS4 over PC, which puts me at odds with most people from the forums getting it I think, plus there's the $20 higher price rate for the console versions and the beta may be all I need to play. Not sure yet though.

I've seen others note it, so it's definitely more obvious to some than others. Vive and Occulus are still using pentile displays aren't they? Going to full RGB at high resolution will help solve it I think. PSVR will be full RGB but lower resolution than Vive/Occulus.

I played a couple more hours, and the game has grown on me. As you dive deeper the game becomes less and less like Dark Souls. The combat and stamina system is significantly more complex. My one frustration is how quickly armor and weapons decay. After only several battles, I'm constantly forced to switch out my equipment. Trying to grind the first level, I went through over a dozen weapons and armor sets.

The key to the game seems to be to lure out individual enemies with a throwing star, and defeat them one on one. Fighting more than two enemies simultaneously is usually a death sentence. People talk about using a bow, but I've yet to see one.

I haven't faced the first boss yet, and I'm level seven. I've been spending most of my time learning the nuances of low-mid-high stances.

There's a bow on a body in the wooded area before you get to the burning village, I think. Once I found that one I'd find them as loot as well, but you may need to find the one on the body first? The bow is super lethal, can kill unhelmeted human enemies with one headshot.

Ritt man, I can not imagine you having a good time with that game with a controller based on how many problems you've had with the controls in other fps/tps games on consoles.

Also, Ring of Sacrifices for when you get super paranoid.  I'm basically end game now and have a good little farm route that nets me about 15k souls/3minutes.

Seems pretty cool. It's very Souls but also a bit different. Attacks are on square/triangle, and it's hard as fuck. Stamina management is even more important, it's almost like Bushido Blade in that you have multiple stances and you can barely take multiple hits.

You can always change infusions later. Fire is great early game as the damage outpaces any scaling you'd be getting and a lot of early enemies are vulnerable to fire.

I'm not sold on Youth Code, though this new album is better than the last as they definitely learned some things on the SP tour. They are opening for Baroness which I find weird.

Hey, Gratch check out this old industrial band Out Out if you don't know them, specifically Pepperbox Muzzle and Finched, both on Spotify. They were local to MA and I'm not sure how much exposure they got, but certainly underappreciated industrial band from that era.

Some neat stuff on hand.

They have the playable Beavis and Butthead arcade game that never made it out of the prototype stage which was recently put together. And next to it a playable Primal Rage 2 that has a similar story. Actually surprised to see PR2 playable. Last year someone spilled something on it and broke it.

Also here is the Sony/Nintendo PlayStation prototype. Not playable though. Just behind glass with a controller and cartridge.

Other fun stuff, played the TI 99 game Tunnels of Doom. It requires both a cartridge and cassette tape to play. Never heard of a setup where you needed both to play a game. Got to play Carnival, an 80s arcade game I probably haven't played since that period. Played Choplifter on an Atari 800 - forgot how fun that game was. And some guy was dressed as Dr Who (Tennant) and carrying a pretty damn good copy of K9 around. Also made $42 selling some old games.

I played the hell out of Tunnels of Doom when I was a kid. Avatar I sometimes use is the warrior from that game.

Out soon on PS4. Looks to be a dual stick shooter with a bit or an RPG mechanic and loot system. Not sure yet how robust the class and loot system are yet though, but it sure is pretty. Would be cool to play this one co-op, also looks less punishing than Helldivers.

This is out now on PS4 and coming soon to Vita and PC. I finished my first playthrough over the weekend and it's pretty great. Basically it is 2d Dark Souls, more specifically Dark Souls crossed with Metroid/Castlevania. It takes a lot of mechanics and concepts straight from the Souls games, so if you are familiar with those you'll adapt quickly here, while also adding a few neat little twists of its own. The level design is very latter day Castlevania, with branching paths, short cuts, and the need to learn new traversal abilities to access previously unreachable areas, there however is no map like in the Metroid/Castlevanias and in that way is again like the Souls games where you just need to learn your way around. There's a large skill tree and you can build your character in different ways, playing a spell casting mage, mace/shield cleric, or 2hand great sword wielding berzerker, etc, or some crazy mix of them all. Combat varies depending on class or weapon, with some weapons having combo chains. Ska Studios is pretty good with the 2d combat, you may remember them from the Dishwasher games. Game does also have that Ska art style, which may be a turn off to some, but if you like either Dark Souls or the Castlevania games I highly recommend you check this out. I played through my first run going mostly 2handed great sword and have started a second run now as a mage.

Salt & Sanctuary. It's basically Dark Souls x Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Level 50ish now and maybe half way done, and I already think I'll run it again with maybe a mage. Been running around with a giant two handed sword for most of it this go, while occasionally using a shield.

You're going to get conflicting opinions on that one, however, PS4 is the market leader by a fair margin at this point, and recent X-box moves have been puzzling in regards to what it means for the long term of the console.

I like it, it's pretty good overall. Been playing mostly on PS4 though I did a little on PC as well. On PS4 it runs at basically a solid 60fps (had a framecounter
in the test builds) but maybe sub 1080p, not sure but it looked a little fuzzy compared to some other games.

As to gameplay, first, this is a MOBA with action elements, it is not an action game with MOBA elements. This is important to understand because if you come to it with certain expectations from third person shooters or the like you may be a bit disappointed. Movement is a bit slower than a straight action game and ranged attacks have a limited distance which will feel short compared to an actual shooter. Map design and objectives are typical moba, the map is flipped vertically so you have a left, mid, and right lane as opposed to top/mid/bot. Jungle can be a little confusing to navigate and they could do
some work to improve that. There's some verticality to the map with ledges ranged characters can stand on and shoot down. For champions it's the basic stuff, casters, melee, support, and ranged attack. Games include PS4/PC player mixing, and for the most part there didn't seem to be much advantage to m/k over a controller outside of the few AD champs who do seem to get a slight boost from m/k.

As for the cards, they basically act as the gear you can buy in the shop. To compare it to LoL, you are basically deciding before a match what your end build might be and then bringing those items into the game, so if you wanted an Infinity Edge it would be one of your cards, you still need to buy it with in game money during the match. Also each card is upgradeable, so as opposed to buying the components to build it in LoL (cloak of agility, BF Sword, Pick Axe) and then building the IE, in Paragon you'd buy the IE upfront but minus a bunch of stats, you then add items to it in 3 upgrade slots. There's some customization here where you can choose between say Crit or Attack Speed, and once the item is complete you get the item's inherent bonus. Now if you wanted to build two IEs you'd need to bring at least two IE cards into the game. You can carry 40 cards, which includes the Item cards and the upgrade cards, cards have varying rarity so not all builds will always be available to all players. Keep in mind, this is balanced by items/upgrades still having an in game cost.

In the jungle there are a few twists, for the big buff you not only need to kill the uber enemy but also deliver an orb it drops to an altar afterwards. Also you can build harvesters on various locations that you need to stop by from time to time to get a global team XP boost.

Melee v. ranged feels ok right now, this is a challenge in these more action oriented MOBAs. Consider that in the classic overhead MOBA a ranged AD stops to shoot, thus allowing slow tank like characters to eventually catch up to them. This feels very unnatural for a lot of action players, and isn't present in many of these TPS/FPS MOBAs. This was a big problem in another beta I played where the slow melee tank was worthless as he just could never close in on the fast ranged glass cannons. Here I've had good success with the melee, mostly due to some decent gap closers and I think some speed buff/debuffs that are happening while attacking, but it still could be improved a bit maybe.

My favorite character at the moment is Rampage.
