I really like how smooth the look behind you while running works, I think Dying Light is using something similar and I hope
it's implemented as well.

I really wish they would lose that angle on these games as it's the worst part about them and they don't seem to know how to improve on it.  If not lose it outright, just give me an option at the start to choose a pure good or evil play-through and hide all the choices from me.

haven't seen that before Forge, but that's exactly the case in Dark Souls.  If you think there isn't any feedback to tell you what you did wrong, you just aren't looking at it.

People are too used to hand holding and/or on rails gameplay that any time the screen doesn't flash 'YOU DIDN'T PRESS THE X BUTTON FAST ENOUGH, TRY AGAIN' they seem to miss it or just assume it's too hard and move on to another game.

Honestly Harkonis, I find this remark condescending and obnoxious. I've been playing these games for 25 years and I don't need hand holding or rails. DS just got to a point for me that it wasn't fun and I don't need people telling me I'm doing it wrong or I don't get. It's a great game for players that it clicks for. But there are a great many people for whom it didn't.  I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, but I don't think that's the best way to express it.

Then say it didn't click for you in the first place instead of saying the game doesn't provide feedback, which it actually does in most cases.

Fun game, but could easily be improved by getting rid of aim down sites and adding alt fire.

As you learn to the play the game that happens less often as well.  The game teaches you to be cautious and alert to your surroundings.  Usually if you die, outside of a boss fight, it's because you've gotten careless.

No, I think that's wrong. Sorry, but Dark Souls is filled with absolutely terrible gameplay and level design that only gets a pass because the designers and community put up a facade of hardcoreness.

The reality of it is, you die plenty of times from crappy camera control, crappy player control, poor animations with little control over swings, poor physics, along with poor creature, level, and encounter design that just highlights it.

I think Dark Souls is a good game, that does a lot of interesting things, but it gets way too much credit for what is essentially sloppy work in basic combat and movement gameplay.

There's a real opportunity for someone to make a hardcore game without the level of sloppiness and jank that Dark Souls has. Dark Soul gets a free pass due to it helping to bring back difficulty in console games, but we can do better.

Wow you are so off base in a lot of ways.  DS gets combat right.  Knowing the animations of your weapons is important, knowing if you have a fast or slow weapon, its reach, and arc of attack.  This isn't DMC or God of War, it's not about combos, it's about looking for openings.  Even new games like Lords of the Fallen seem to be taking queues from Dark Souls combat.   Heck here's a combat assessment as compared to reality  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXGns-R8KkM

That's making try and think of what the absolute worst "We Legally Can't Say Mech" alternative mech name is.  Right now the "Hercs" from Missionforce Cyberstorm come to mind.

That was part of the Earthsiege universe which included the Earthsiege games, Cyberstorm, and Tribes, which is a bit weird when you think about it.

Any gods that are focused on placing traps?

Bit of a tangent but I'm surprised you didn't get sucked into League of Legends or Dota 2 if you played Demigod.  We had quite a big

Elemental shards get you the movement abilities and buffs.  I don't think any of them are story required outside of the Earth one.  You'll need to head back to the forge after you find one.

I saw that thread unfold on GAF and it was a weird deal.  It was a lot of leaks but it was all very pro MS leaks to the point it felt like a controlled leak run by the MS marketing department.  The amount of disparate information over a wide array of time isn't something your average employee would know either, the "leaks" ranged from upcoming software releases, hardware SKUs, to games coming out in 2016.

So be careful with that travel spell.  It seems if you use it in certain areas it will respawn the mobs and put them into hostile mode.  The result of this is as soon as you leave town you are in combat and can't do anything until you go back to where you just ported from and clear the mobs again.
670  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Might & Magic X : Legacy on: January 28, 2014, 01:56:01 PM
Strange bug I had yesterday was leaving Karthal and being instantly put into combat mode, but there were no enemies I could see.  Same thing if I ported to a different city. Eventually I saw in the status display there were supposed to be Water Elementals, so i trekked to the last place I fought those and sure enough two I killed previously were there and I killed them again and finally took me out of combat mode.

Like you say, people buy consoles for the games.  That's why I just bought an Xbone.  But it's not like resolution & framerate weren't a factor in the decision.  Do I want my cross-platform titles to be prettier for the foreseeable future?  Or do I want to play Titanfall?   I want to play Titanfall.

Which is a successful bit of marketing on Microsoft's part as the game is coming out to PC and 360 too, so you already had the ability to play it.

Yeah it's fantastic.  I've postulated elsewhere it's sort of a take on The Tale of Inspector Legrasse from Call of Cthulhu.
At the very least it's made some references to Chambers if not Lovecraft.

675  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: MS Acquires Rights to Gears of War on: January 27, 2014, 07:14:41 PM
It's more that they finished the story.  Character arcs finished, main characters died, the enemy was completely obliterated etc.  So for any new game they either have to set it in the past or come up with a new enemy, or I suppose pull some sort of retcon in regards to the fate of the Locusts.

This all happened by three too, Judgement already went the flashback route.

It will effect multiplatform titles.  BF4 supports kinect for leaning for instance.  You'll see titles where they have to opt for head tracking/leaning and the like or try and get closer to PS4 graphics parity.
678  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: MS Acquires Rights to Gears of War on: January 27, 2014, 02:50:54 PM
Black Tusk haven't made anything yet, they are one of Microsoft's new internal studios.

I liked Gears, but I'm also kind of done with it, I never bought Judgement and don't feel like I missed anything there.    I realize it was a successful franchise and no one wants to just let that go, but those characters and that universe kind of ran its course and I feel like a new IP even with similar gameplay would be a better path.

Black Tusk were originally supposed to be developing a new IP to alternate years with Halo, but now it looks like they are just going to be the Gears shop.  What they showed at E3 has now been said to have just been concept work, and didn't represent an actual game in development.

Also, this sort of seems to imply Epic is done making conventional console games and is just going to be an engine house and maybe mobile games I guess.  Not sure what's up with Fortnite though.

It's also worth noting that the units on shelves aren't exactly boxes of disappointment to be thrown into the ocean.  I don't know how much of a system seller Titanfall will be, but if the supply situation still looks like this when it hits, anyone who wants an Xbone for Titanfall will be able to find one.  And when the next big cross-platform titles hit, will a Joe Gamer who thinks he wants to play Metal Gear Solid on a PS4 be patient enough to hunt for one?  Or will he just give up after the first try or two and buy an Xbone instead because one is right there on a shelf?

Interesting point really. We'll have to see.

As far as Titanfall goes - it's *the* reason I asked for an Xbox One for Christmas even though I already had a PS4. So that's one piece of anecdotal evidence that it is a system seller for some.

System seller for me, too, but I have always have such a hard time predicting the minds of the casual gamer masses.  My family member whose 360 was his CoD/Madden machine is my usual litmus test, and as of Thanksgiving he hadn't even heard of Titanfall.  But if Titanfall does catch the eyes of the CoD/Halo masses?  I don't want to jump the gun, but it seems like it could really really move some units.

March will be interesting.  Right now Infamous Second Son is tracking higher if you look at social media sites, more likes to the Facebook page and higher view count on videos on youtube.

one was that it'll likely have better graphics on cross-platform titles for most if not all of this generation.  But getting 1080p more often on cross-platform games just wasn't important enough to me to outweigh access to Xbone exclusives.

It's not just 1080p though.  Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is supposedly 1080 on both but 60FPS roughly on PS4 and 30FPS roughly on XB1, or at least that's the current scuttlebutt blowing up on GAF.  So these things manifest in multiple ways, not always resolution.
