BF4 rumor pretty strong, but the there's this undercurrent that the XB1 has bigger problems right now than running games at 720p while PS4 is 1080p.

If CoD and BF4 are both 720 on the XB1 and 1080 on the PS4, oh boy.  If that's not the case MS really needs to get out in front of this, the narrative is building and just starting to snowball.

Who knows what surprising means without knowing context of who he thinks his audience is for that quote.  Old school 360 folks who all saw Xbox outshine PS3, PS4 would be surprising.  Folks following the CoD 720p rumors, XB1 being better would be surprising, some other nonsense, who knows.

Yeah XB1 has one as well.  I think the gnashing is people just want to turn it on and play, heck that's why I got the BluRay version of Killzone, as I don't want to wait for that 50gb to download after hooking the PS4 up to my TV.

So, at the Sony Brazil conference Adam Boyes stated that CoD is native 1080p on the PS4.   Still no word out of the XB1 camp, and some of the rumormongers are doubling down on it not being 1080p on the XB1.

Their GPU is a bit weaker than the PS4 GPU as well, but the eSRAM does seem to be an issue.

Yeah, the eSRAM seems to be the major issue so far. True, the GPU may be a small issue now....but I think it will be a more major issue down the road, than right now....which obviously is not good.

I'm not at all knowledgeable about the implications of the eSRAM choice.  In the early days of the PS3, there was all that hoopla about how the anti-aliasing ability of the system was just about nonfunctional, but as the years went on it became less and less of an issue.  What makes the eSRAM limitations more dire?

They'll probably sort out some of their issues with eSRAM over time.  The GPU will always be weaker though.

I believe these are the GPU specs

Quote from: from NeoGAF
Xbone: 1.18 TF GPU (12 CUs) for games
Xbone: 768 Shaders
Xbone: 48 Texture units
Xbone: 16 ROPS
Xbone: 2 ACE/ 16 queues

PS4: 1.84TF GPU ( 18 CUs) for games + 56%
PS4: 1152 Shaders +50%
PS4: 72 Texture units +50%
PS4: 32 ROPS + 100%
PS4: 8 ACE/64 queues +400%

I know a few years back there were all those charts showing some ungodly percentage of HDTV owners thought HD looked great even though they hadn't even properly set up any actual HD content on the TV.  Has there been any more recent survey of that sort?

I have a feeling that even if the 720/1080 rumors turn out to be true, the vast majority of consumers won't be able to tell the difference first hand.  It'll all just be about how much the angry hype train actually manages to filter from  review sites and our demographic down to the general masses.

I think there's some truth to this but the hard core will know, and if they know there's a good chance the narrative will spread that the PS4 version is the best version and that narrative will be what reaches the mainstream gamer.

If this ends up being true, the biggest shame to me will be that MS will take the fall and Activision will likely be mostly ignored.  Look at current gen COD, it looks like ass and runs at horrible resolutions and is then upscaled horribly.

If it's 720p on both sure, but if it's only 720p on the XB1 and 1080p on the PS4 it's hard to blame Activision.

it would still fall on Activision, because if other developers (like Turn 10) can do 1080p, then at some level it's a fail on the dev as well as the hardware.  Maybe it's harder to develop on, but if they half ass it because they can and just shrug it off with a 'well, if the shit hits the fan, MS will take the hit' that's pretty shitty.

Not saying it would be all Activisions fault, but it's still their product.  If nobody was able to get 1080p working reliably then sure, it's 100% on MS.

Right now it's only Turn 10 that is confirmed to hitting 1080p on the XB1.  Ryse is 900p, Killer Instinct is 720p, and Dead Rising 3 is some kind of variable resolution thing that changes on the fly.

And the Killzone numbers reflect the fact that

1.  PS4 doesn't have many exclusives at the time of launch
2.  A few of their big titles were delayed

So if you want to play a game on your PS4 at launch, you must swallow the Killzone pill.

Except those numbers still have Watch Dogs on them.

The US preorder numbers are starting to come out, and things are not nearly as dire for MS as the Sony fanboys would have you believe. The PS4 is expected to sell just over a million units with the Xbox selling just under a million. The Xbox has been gaining ground as launch approaches. Nobody's expecting MS to win the launch, but rumors of its "failure" have been grossly exaggerated. Given that the Xbone costs $100 more, I think the fact the race is so close is pretty impressive.

Source?

Source   What exactly is your beef with MS?

Asking for a source hardly qualifies as a beef, there's a lot of FUD out there right now.  I also personally don't put any stock in VGchartz, but man if those numbers are right PS4 has the killer exclusive this launch with Killzone looking to sell as much as Forza, Dead Rising and Ryse combined!*

And frankly if that's true it is a bit of a failure for MS.  They dominated last cycle in the US, they should easily have led this launch in the US.  The US numbers didn't appear to be super dire either as we didn't see the Free game bundles over here like they got in Europe, those numbers must be interesting to see.

It's not that the tech isn't useful, it's just not new or revolutionary (or even Microsoft exclusive), and it's certainly not going to revolutionize the world in the way some of you think.  I can't help but be reminded of how the Sony folks sounded when talking about the Cell processor back before the PS3 came out.

No, I was referring to the term "PC" being a Microsoft product (generally speaking).

With Titanfall though, IIRC MS Studios is the publisher, EA owns Remedy, the creators of Titanfall. While it's entirely possible that EA could publish this through Origin, with a flagship game like this (and MS being publisher, they've footed the bill)  that I see it coming out on Win8x only, and through the MS store (much like Halo: Spartan Assault).

They're shutting down Games For Windows and there is no surprise there - MS is consolidating their fragmented marketplaces into the same pool - this was announced weeks ago though they have not disclosed how, or how soon.

As to cloud - the game itself relies on pushing some of the computations to MS's Azure servers - this will definitely be an "online only" game.

Edit: double-checked - was thinking DR3's publisher. EA owns this one.

Holly crap there is so much wrong with this post.  Respawn, not Remedy is making Titan Fall.  EA does not own Respawn, they are an independent studio working via the EA partners program.  In fact EA doesn't even own the Titan Fall property as Respawn has retained all property rights.

The rain in the Gametrailers preview was the only thing that didn't look really good, and was a stark contrast to how great the rest of it looks visually.
