I haven't purchased anything on the Steam sale. Thus far it's just a complete meh.

Same here.  There's a few I was interested in, but they're all still to expensive (over $20).

I looked at everything, then looked twice and also did the whole "discovery queue" to see if there was anything interesting that steam had hidden away.  Then I bought Dying Light for a replay on PC and haven't looked back.  I'm on my last week at this job and don't have anything immediately lined up, so that pretty much ends my "backlog growing" stage.  I anticipate I might get time for that hopeless project:  backlog clearing while looking for a new position and cancelling all my medical appointments to the chagrin of my doctors while getting some useful advice from the company representative, such as changing my resume's font and adding some new tech buzzwords in an attempt to sound current.  I will be looking at reviews for the Spiders game and telling my son why we aren't immediately getting another Lego game.  (he still hasn't finished the last few)

Thank you E9.  We took a small break in no-net land and by the time we returned last night, I was too weary to even flip the pc on.

Wow, what a season finale!  So much happened and I love how pretty much everyone got some major plot action.

Spoiler for Hiden:
My favorite scene was Arya's.  Totally caught me off guard, absolutely loved it.  Still I hope they have more planned for her that will make a greater impact to the finale.  Will she be the one who ultimately kills Cersei?

Speaking of which, loved loved loved everything about Cersei in this episode.  She deserves an Emmy.  That dress was freaking fantastic but every expression on her face was awesome, from the thrill of vengeance to the knowing, bitter acceptance of losing her last child, to finally claiming her spot as Queen of Thrones.  Awesome.  I was sad to lose Margeary in such an unceremonious way, but what are ya gonna do?  Also wished she had got to torture Jonathan Pryce's smarmy ass instead of the nun, but beggars can't be choosers.  SHAME!!!  SHAME!!!

Dany + Tyrion moment, brought a tear to my eye when he bows at the end.

All teh shipz, oh my!  With dragon entourage to boot.

Jon Snow heritage reveal.  Honestly it was way too confusing and complicated for me and I had to read the explanations so I wonder how much of an impact it will have for the audience at large.  I suspect it will get more play next season when Dany meets Jon.  Hopefully Bran will spill the beans before they get their incest on.

Last but not least.  Someone please fix Bran's freaking legs.  That poor girl can't be expected to drag his huge ass around the rest of the show!  Thanks for the horse, Uncle Benjen!!  NOT!

Bran spilling the beans will just make it more likely, they were a house known for inbreeding.

I don't think damage is the problem as much as it's speed of target acquisition and target lock.

And stellar they are not.  Sheesh.  Reviews are hovering in the 50% range.

Wow.  That is both amazing and shocking given how anticipated this game has been.  Graphics that are retro, but not up to the last game in the MM series, and worst of all, a gameplay mechanic that is both imprecise and used to justify some tricky jumps.

I find it odd that there are so many complaints about the graphics and art style.  I thought they looked pretty good from the videos I've seen; exactly what I would expect.
I think they are pretty terrible. Also consider this was the concept art in the kickstarter which was much better.

Hololens is too far off with current field of view issues and price. More likely they are partnering with Facebook to make Occulus Rift compatible with the Scorpio.

I have no idea what Twitter thinks, or who you are following, but both the Giant Bomb and GameSpot streams were clearly saying that the Sony conference felt weird, empty and disappointing.

As far as the montage clips, at least in the [email protected] one they showed enough of the game to know what it was, along with the name of the game and the developer so I knew what it all was.

That montage at the end of Sony's was largely a summary of their showing with a few other games thrown in there getting hardly a second of air time.  It felt like a real lost chance to focus on those smaller games, or unknown games.

Sony ended on a hohum note compared to MS with Scorpio.  If Sony ended with Horizon the GB guys would all be buzzing on what a great conference it was. Watching all their Talk Over the Conferences I was a bit surprised to find them so negative post Sony's where as during the conference they were probably the most positive.

I mean Days Gone didn't wow but Scalebound and FFXV both had actual poor showings at the MS conference.

It seems to me that unless you are going the VR route, or really really really want upgraded resolution (4K rumored), staying with the current PS4 is fine.   Im still on the fence for VR, as I haven't seen games/apps that make it a must yet.   Still, looks like the consoles are embracing it.

We'll have to see what the reality of the games is for different platforms.

Even without a 4K TV, if you can get full 1080p resolution at 60fps with higher resolution textures and better post processing on the NEO I would be happy with that over a regular PS4 being slightly downscaled from event the current PC build.

I'm still finding this whole situation offensive.

Meanwhile, the PS4 is still facing a storage issue that needs to be fixed last year.

While they should upgrade the base store model, the PS4 storage is easily upgradeable at a low cost.

I finished the game up, just shy of 17 hours but only 52 treasures, and that was with scouring the areas pretty well. I doubt I will do a platinum try especially since there are those 70% accuracy and 6 hour speed run trophies.

As of right now cheats don't seem to impact trophies, so it's not as hard as it might seem. So you can turn on slow motion aiming, and infinite RPGs. The only thing I'm fairly certain you can't use is the autoaim stuff.

Man, I'm getting a bit annoyed with the combat in this game. It's just bloody hard compared to the other games in the series, and each combat encounter is incredibly unfair if you can't stealth it. Enemies pop up from all around you, making cover worthless. Grenades are thrown in your direction so often that by the time you've evaded one, another is already on its way. Enemies have the height advantage and cover, and they don't all spawn at the start of an encounter, instead spawning as specific enemies are taken down, or as you reach specific places in the combat arena. I just got through a section that made me want to scream in frustration, where you're stuck on an "island" with no cover while enemies are all around you with all kinds of weapons (including rocket launchers). If you've already played the section (and died multiple times, most likely), you can rush through a bunch of jumping puzzles to reach an area where there is cover, only there are enemies all around you even there, and your cover will be demolished in seconds while enemies rush your position. You can try to take out some enemies while hanging from ledges, only the game doesn't give you enough ammo (or the opportunity to pick up any without being shot to death) to do it. No grenades either. It took me about 10 tries to get through this part, and I didn't enjoy it in the slightest.

It goes for combat in general here. Most times when an encounter can be stealthed and I'm caught, I get shot to pieces before I even have a chance to get my bearings and fight back. If it wasn't for the stealth, I'd have a really hard time getting through this game, and this is on the normal difficulty level! The earlier games were a cakewalk compared to this.

The only fight that struck me as a bit unbalanced was near the end of the game in the
Spoiler for Hiden:
ship graveyard.
The game this time around encourages more movement to reestablish stealth or find better cover. Still I feel U3 was far worse in regards to getting killed by flanking enemies from nowhere.

Also remember you can use swimming to break LOS and lose the enemies, this helps in a couple of the encounters which take place around water.

What I would say is the problem of the game design is that they space out the big combat scenarios more than I think in the past games which can lead to not really becoming familiar with flow of the combat loop. I think the game might have been better served by more frequent but smaller combat sections. The same final enemy total, just spread out more across the game.

Can I simply add the required points to strength only?

Apologies if it seems trivial I am simply stuck.

You don't magically get more stat points, they have to come from somewhere.  The red stats are the base stats you started the game with, when you respec it refunds all points from leveling and you need to reallocate them all as you see fit. The pool is the top left, notice the White level number -> Red level number, you get to allocate stats until the red number equals the white number.

Right now I am at 31STR and I'd like to get to 40STR - if I add the additional 9 points into STR does that mean that they are taken away from other attributes?
I'm lost.

Umm, yeah? I mean how else would a respec work? Rosaria basically resets you to base stats and you get to reallocate all points.

I have no idea how the screen door effect (SDE) can be so visible to shon. It's pretty much eliminated as a factor with the final versions of both the Rift and the Vive. The DK2 had an SDE that was impossible to completely ignore, but on the Rift you have to specifically look for it, and you have to look hard. I imagine the experience of coming in completely fresh to VR might take someone by surprise, drawing their attention to the pixels.

Just so we're completely clear, the SDE doesn't refer to you being able to see individual pixels. It refers to you being able to see the blank space between pixels in the shape of a grid or net. The DK1 was horrible in this regard from what I was told, and while the DK2 was much better, the SDE was always immediately obvious. On the Rift I can see pixels, but I can't see the area between them unless I really concentrate on it.

I'm not convinced that everyone speaking about the SDE in this thread is talking about the same thing.

I've seen others note it, so it's definitely more obvious to some than others. Vive and Occulus are still using pentile displays aren't they? Going to full RGB at high resolution will help solve it I think. PSVR will be full RGB but lower resolution than Vive/Occulus.

I played a couple more hours, and the game has grown on me. As you dive deeper the game becomes less and less like Dark Souls. The combat and stamina system is significantly more complex. My one frustration is how quickly armor and weapons decay. After only several battles, I'm constantly forced to switch out my equipment. Trying to grind the first level, I went through over a dozen weapons and armor sets.

The key to the game seems to be to lure out individual enemies with a throwing star, and defeat them one on one. Fighting more than two enemies simultaneously is usually a death sentence. People talk about using a bow, but I've yet to see one.

I haven't faced the first boss yet, and I'm level seven. I've been spending most of my time learning the nuances of low-mid-high stances.

There's a bow on a body in the wooded area before you get to the burning village, I think. Once I found that one I'd find them as loot as well, but you may need to find the one on the body first? The bow is super lethal, can kill unhelmeted human enemies with one headshot.

Played a little of this last night, pretty fun.  The dual stick aiming/trigger shooting is kind of tough for me, I definitely prefer the way Diablo was implemented for an ARPG, but other than that the game is very cool.  I like how easy they made it to jump into an MP game with strangers, as it definitely feels like it's more fun with more people.

The environments and maps are cool, lots of interesting aliens to blast and the pacing proceeds well with bursts of difficulty.  I had to play on Rookie and even then I died a couple of times.  The loot system seems decent, though since the game never pauses in MP, you may not get a chance to do much upgrading until a mission is completed.

So is this more of a two stick action shooter with a few RPG elements, or is it a full blown action RPG ala Diablo 3? The designer videos make are vague on how robust the loot/leveling system are in comparison to the usual suspects. Some of the videos with the smoke bursts looks awesome.

From the little time I put into it it struck me as more twin stick shooter with RPG elements. There is weapon loot and a skill tree, but a fraction of the skills found in Diablo.

I just started playing the FIRST Dark Souls game, and I've come to the realization that although I'm really enjoying the game, my personality is way too conservative. I practically break out into a cold sweat every time I have a couple thousand souls, and find myself more than a few hundred feet from a rest location. As such, I've only explored a very small portion of the game and I'm already level 15. But even at that level one or two hits can be the end for my pyromancer.

I see you guys talking about losing tens of thousands of souls in Dark Souls III, and I wonder how I'll ever get the courage to explore that far from the safety net of a fire.  icon_eek  I suppose once the number of souls to gain levels increases dramatically I'll be forced to venture further from "home". Not looking forward to that. I'm the kind of guy that hate losing $1 in a slot machine.

These games are going to kill me.

~70k is my record loss in DS3, think I've lost more in some other games. At the time that was probably 3 levels worth of souls....

Also, Ring of Sacrifices for when you get super paranoid.  I'm basically end game now and have a good little farm route that nets me about 15k souls/3minutes.

Seems pretty cool. It's very Souls but also a bit different. Attacks are on square/triangle, and it's hard as fuck. Stamina management is even more important, it's almost like Bushido Blade in that you have multiple stances and you can barely take multiple hits.
