Yeah, one of the reasons I never play MOBAs is the store.  It seems like there's a set of items for a character that everyone buys in things like DOTA and LoL, which makes the mechanic boil down to buying those items, which makes you wonder why they even have it in the first place.  I also like the idea of shared xp.  Sure I think this game will not be as complex (maybe MOBAs for Babies), but since this is a genre I wish I played but don't have the time to invest, I'd like something a little easier for me to be able to get that experience.

That's mostly true, but there is some variation in builds and build order and it allows for a subset of champions to play very different roles depending on their items.  Some champs can commonly go either a support role or a magic caster carry role in LoL for instance.

Tilt, how's the framerate on PS4 - Solid 30?

It's 60, and I havent noticed any hiccups so far.

That's good, makes up for the low res textures. Or whatever it is that's making the game look so last-gen.

Even on PS4 it doesn't look good?

It looks fine, it's no showcase, but it's not terrible either.  Probably around PC Rage (minus the weird texture pop-in that had.)

And Cranston probably worked about 48 hours on this and most likely walked away with a cool million or more.  Good for him!

Yeah, it was kind of weird that they had some really established actors like Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe and Brian Cranston but they weren't used nearly as much as I had hoped or expected.  Watanabe mostly just got to have like half a dozen different looks of shock on his face as the camera pulled in slowly.

The movie felt overly long to me, and I felt like they could have easily cut 15-20 minutes out of the front end.  Really even if they took the Cranston backstory out of the movie, it would have had little impact for me.  It's a Godzilla movie, let's see Godzilla!  I was enjoying the buildup to an extent, but I guess I had higher expectations to what the buildup would mean for the rest of the movie.

I think you might be surprised at the average screen time of Godzilla in the typical Godzilla movie.

Yeah that's what I've been reading, but I suspect (actually let me check) the older movies are actually much shorter as well, so the percentage of screen time is really what counts.  Original Gojira is... 96 minutes, and most of the others look to be around the 90 minute mark.  This new one was over 2 hours.  It wasn't really the amount of Godzilla time I felt was lacking, but more that the movie itself was overly long.  The human element storylines just weren't very compelling IMHO.

It seemed like they wanted to build it up (and advertise) as maybe an epic disaster movie (btw what happened to the Statue of Liberty being destroyed from the commercial??) or maybe they were modeling after Independence Day, I dunno.

- - -

On a complete side note, there's a new Dungeon Raid-type game out on iOS called Smash3 or something like that, featuring visuals from the movie.  It's free and actually quite good!

There's a replica of the Statue in Vegas.

I'm having a lot of fun with it.   It's pretty much designed to be able to played as either a stealth game, a cover shooter, or run&gun.   There's also no penalty really for mixing and matching the three play styles, which is pretty much what I've been doing.

It's important to keep in mind that the Xbox One has sold 76% more units than the Xbox 360 did in its first 6 months, which means it's sold about 5.6m units compared to the 360's 3.2m in the same time span

They've not sold 5.6 million to customers.  They've shipped that many to retailers.  MS really did a great job confusing  people with that 5M number they put out there when Sony announced selling 7M to actual customers.

Either way the point is the same, MS is doing much better this generation (so far), purely from a sales standpoint. I'm not sure what the profit margins are on the One Vs the 360, though.

I'm willing to bet that had the price points been swapped, if the PS4 was $500 and the One was $400, it would be the One with 7m sold and PS4 with 5m shipped. Now that they're more evenly priced, it can be a battle more focused on who has the best content.

Eh its April was pretty bad, 360 never sold that low until this month in fact.

XB1 sold 115k this past April, here are the 360 April numbers by comparison.

360:
April 2006 - 295K
April 2007 - 174K
April 2008 - 188K
April 2009 - 175K
April 2010 - 185K
April 2011 - 297K
April 2012 - 236K
April 2013 - 130K

I must be in the minority because I love the Kinect - not for games or motion stuff, but for the voice integration. The only time I pick up a controller is to play a game - other than that it's all voice navigation. My wife loves it because she could never figure out how to use my universal remote or switch inputs on the receiver. With the XB1, she doesn't have to. She just tells it what she wants to do and it does it.

The voice stuff could arguably be done a lot cheaper without the cameras etc, just look at the Amazon Fire TV.

I was reading about the hardware differences, sounds like it's fairly negligible (PS4 has better graphics memory or something like that?) so I'm assuming both versions will be in 1080p...

They might (and should) be for this title but based on the history of XB1/PS4 multiplats you should not assume they will both be 1080p.

Insomniac are a pretty hit or miss studio.   Fuse wasn't so hot, and the Resistance games didn't really light the world on fire and varied widely in quality.   Even the R&C games have a fair bit of quality disparity.  It's really hard to know how this one will turn out until it releases.

That looks like the old NTKRNL leak from Feb.  He did call the sunset overdrive plot and posted an image of a TF XB1 that ended up matching the one Respawn got.   Even back then it felt like a controlled leak.  There's another conference leak thread there now too, similar info but with more stuff but seems a bit questionable, much like the Sony conference leak earlier.

Both do hint at a new game from Platinum though.

Between this, Quantum Break, and Halo/Gears of War, Microsoft has a very strong set of exclusives lined up for E3.

All you're getting from Gears at E3 is a Gear logo with chainsaw sound.

This is going to be a free-running/grinding super hero game with lots of melee and ranged weaponry.  They've seemingly mashed together the rail combat from Bioshock Infinite with Tony Hawk, adding in the weaponry from a Ratchet & Clank game.  Add the character customization from SR IV and you're set.

Ratchet had a lot of rail combat, and the boss fight shown looks very Ratchet.  The whole game looks a lot like R&C gameplay in a different environment.

This is published by MS but Insomniac does own the IP, so theoretically they could make a Sunset Overdrive game for other platforms some day (though I'm sure MS has first rights of refusal).   Basically think of Gears on 360 in regards to the property (before MS bought the Gears IP from Epic) just a few months ago)

So...the upgrade to the full unlock costs $50. But from the wording on the PS Blog post its seems this is treated not like a sale item but the free games you get with the sub. If the PS+ sub ever lapse you lose access tot he game. I really hope this is a miscommunication on their part...

This is exactly what everyone thinks at this point - the 'discount' is only yours while you keep your PS+ sub. So you don't really 'own' it unless you spend the full $60.

In short, don't gimp yourself by trying to save $10.

EDIT: You also get some kind of demo by just having PS+, but it's absolutely not the full game at all.

I wouldn't really call it a demo. It's more of a shareware thing in some ways, with 11 tracks and 10 cars, and the ability to earn the platinum trophy.
Yeah closer to the days when you got Episode 1 of Doom for free.

One nice thing on the PS4 version is you can move the firefly spirit with the touchpad, which makes some things a little easier. Also, I'm not sure if this is in the other versions but if you click the touchpad in, it acts as a toggle for if he's glowing or not (as opposed to having to hold the trigger down).

Well, I agree and disagree with Tilt.  I think that DLC would have still happened with those, but would have ended up paid DLC for everyone.

But where I agree, there are good 3rd party exclusives and bad 3rd party exclusives.   Bayonetta 2 and Dead Rising 3 appear to fall on the good side, as these are games that would not have existed without funding from the respective console manufacturers as the publisher didn't see pursuing a sequel as worth it.   On the bad side, you have games that were never in danger of not being produced, and a console manufacturer swoops in and pays to cancel development on their competitor's hardware.  Those blow.

I just hate that shit! I was half expecting (and dreading) Sony to go that route for the PS4, making CoD DLC timed exclusives with their new position in the marketplace, but no. Microsoft continues this despicable practice, so we don't even get to know if Sony would have done the same thing.

Yeah on Hard interrupts are very important.  Also, what's this I hear about getting heals mid battle on Normal without using potions/spells?  Do the flowers in normal regenerate health too and not just ignacious' meter in combat?

Combat, btw, is basically lifted from the old Grandia games, and that's a good thing.
