I hope this isn't what they had planned for the God of War reveal:

GOW Ascension PS4 Edition

Dualshockers is making a real bad habit out of making news stories out of people's twitter posts.

It's already leaked, but I think Project Beast is going to get a lot of attention when it's shown. Among "hardcore" gamers, that game could certainly be the PS4's killer app. The NeoGAF thread about the game has had an absolutely insane amount of views and posts, even by that forum's standards.

It really is, 1,365,574 views at last count.

I kind of dismissed this one from the first trailer at last year's E3, but the more I've read about it this week the more hyped I am. Looks really, really good.

Between this, Quantum Break, and Halo/Gears of War, Microsoft has a very strong set of exclusives lined up for E3.

All you're getting from Gears at E3 is a Gear logo with chainsaw sound.

Here's the official SO trailer with gameplay

This is going to be a free-running/grinding super hero game with lots of melee and ranged weaponry.  They've seemingly mashed together the rail combat from Bioshock Infinite with Tony Hawk, adding in the weaponry from a Ratchet & Clank game.  Add the character customization from SR IV and you're set.

Ratchet had a lot of rail combat, and the boss fight shown looks very Ratchet.  The whole game looks a lot like R&C gameplay in a different environment.

This is published by MS but Insomniac does own the IP, so theoretically they could make a Sunset Overdrive game for other platforms some day (though I'm sure MS has first rights of refusal).   Basically think of Gears on 360 in regards to the property (before MS bought the Gears IP from Epic) just a few months ago)

So...the upgrade to the full unlock costs $50. But from the wording on the PS Blog post its seems this is treated not like a sale item but the free games you get with the sub. If the PS+ sub ever lapse you lose access tot he game. I really hope this is a miscommunication on their part...

This is exactly what everyone thinks at this point - the 'discount' is only yours while you keep your PS+ sub. So you don't really 'own' it unless you spend the full $60.

In short, don't gimp yourself by trying to save $10.

EDIT: You also get some kind of demo by just having PS+, but it's absolutely not the full game at all.

I wouldn't really call it a demo. It's more of a shareware thing in some ways, with 11 tracks and 10 cars, and the ability to earn the platinum trophy.
Yeah closer to the days when you got Episode 1 of Doom for free.

Are the PC, XB1, and PS4 versions any different in terms of graphics? I was curious if there is a preferred platform among these 3. I assume the PC can play at resolutions above 1080P, but are the XB1 and PS4 running at that resolution?

One nice thing on the PS4 version is you can move the firefly spirit with the touchpad, which makes some things a little easier. Also, I'm not sure if this is in the other versions but if you click the touchpad in, it acts as a toggle for if he's glowing or not (as opposed to having to hold the trigger down).

Well, I agree and disagree with Tilt.  I think that DLC would have still happened with those, but would have ended up paid DLC for everyone.

But where I agree, there are good 3rd party exclusives and bad 3rd party exclusives.   Bayonetta 2 and Dead Rising 3 appear to fall on the good side, as these are games that would not have existed without funding from the respective console manufacturers as the publisher didn't see pursuing a sequel as worth it.   On the bad side, you have games that were never in danger of not being produced, and a console manufacturer swoops in and pays to cancel development on their competitor's hardware.  Those blow.

Not that I really care about Call of Duty, but I always pay attention to the business surrounding it. It turns out Microsoft has opened its wallet for Activision again, making sure that all DLC for the game has a 1-month exclusivity to the Xbox One.

I just hate that shit! I was half expecting (and dreading) Sony to go that route for the PS4, making CoD DLC timed exclusives with their new position in the marketplace, but no. Microsoft continues this despicable practice, so we don't even get to know if Sony would have done the same thing.

We know as Sony has had exclusive DLC for various Ubisoft games and the Batmans.

215  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on: May 02, 2014, 01:46:06 PM
I wouldn't confuse lead platform with a co-marketing deal.   MS had that in place last gen and I would imagine they'd want to retain that now more than ever.  Probably still timed DLC too.

I recommend that RPG veterans start at the hard difficulty setting. The game is so much better tactically and timing so crucial in each battle (IMHO)

Yeah on Hard interrupts are very important.  Also, what's this I hear about getting heals mid battle on Normal without using potions/spells?  Do the flowers in normal regenerate health too and not just ignacious' meter in combat?

Combat, btw, is basically lifted from the old Grandia games, and that's a good thing.

Forge, is it the skill counter heal?

Dunno, I'm playing on Hard and I just read something somewhere about how on Hard you didn't get the free heals and actually had to use potions/spells as opposed to Normal.

Guys, seriously. The new Spiderman game is made by Activision and is a movie tie-in. That means it's shovelware. Activision has done this several times before. They quickly develop a game with as little resources as possible and shove it out at a time when they think they'll get the most sales from naive customers.

If you love this industry, don't buy that game. You'll be sending Activision all the wrong signals.

We know all that, the game was delayed with no release date on XB1 and preorders were cancelled at several online sites.  Now the digital version has showed up day and date with the other versions, and there's a new release date of July (on Amazon) for the physical copy.  The fact that it's shovelware doesn't make what's going on with the XB1 version any less weird or interesting.

Child of Light is reviewing well with 8s most places.  Edge dinged it hard as did Polygon.  Now I've commented here before about what I think of Polygon, consider this, the CoL review actually caused another developer of a different game to write a critique of the Polygon review   http://zeboyd.com/2014/04/28/a-review-of-arthur-gies-review-of-child-of-light/

Sleeping Dogs is on sale for 80% off this weekend on Steam. I had this on the X360 and enjoyed the game, but finally got stopped at one mission (in a nightclub) where I had to win several hand to hand fights in a row and I just couldn't get past it. Would I find the martial arts fighting easier on the PC? Or perhaps there's a cheat or exploit so I could get around those mandatory long fight sequences? I did like the game, but my aging reflexes and muscles make doing combos too much of a challenge at times. Any help would be appreciated.

Like 30% or more of that game is hand to hand combat.

Farscape is the most fun of the bunch IMO, it's much more of an adventure show than B5 or BSG.  I'd put it closer to Firefly in scope and tone.

No one else thinks U4 is being rebooted after all the major players leaving?

No. Don't confuse accepted job offers (the clue for people like Hennig is how she went directly into a new job after leaving ND) with trouble in the ranks. Sometimes you just want to do something new after having worked on the same game series for many years. The voice actor may have been removed as a result of contractual or scheduling problems with his new opportunities. Star Wars is a powerful license, one that can trump many other things.

Hennig was forced out.

Do you have some first hand knowledge or is that more internet speculation?   And what does forced out even mean? If she refused to have major character killed off in 4 like Sully or Elena and left over them moving ahead with that for story direction, would that be forced out?
