There was a site you had to submit your PSN id to, but registration is now closed.

I don't know about ten years, but I like it a lot.  It's very much haloXborderlands but also with a bit of MMO in it.  What I mean by that is you run across a lot of random players, especially when you are doing the explore mode.  Melee combat also feel really good and I'm enjoying stabbing guys with my Hunter and punching them with my Titan.
203  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4] Bloodborne (previously known as Project Beast) on: June 13, 2014, 12:30:04 PM
The old TGS 2013 trailer leaked from when it was still Project Beast http://www.onlysp.com/new-trailer-leaked-ps4-exclusive-bloodborne-looks-fantastic/
You can see a marked improvement in graphics in the 5 seconds of footage we got from E3, but still this gives you a pretty good idea about the game I think.

New Guilty Gear, there's a story trailer but screw that here's two matches.  These are not sprites.
Also supports crossplay between PS3 and PS4.

All the folks who have seen the E3 demo have been absolutely glowing so far.  The gametrailers guy can barely contain himself.

I'm surprised that theirs no Activision Press Conference.  In fact the only game I can think of that they make is Call of Duty series, and Blizzard stuff.  Did they fall off the map in the last few years?  they used to have a huge presence.

Activision is really starting to notice how they've got almost no IPs to offer. A press conference by them would end up being nothing but Blizzard and Call of Duty, so I think they'd rather just save themselves the embarrassment. Their core customers don't care about E3 anyway.
Eh, the got Destiny, and don't forget Skylanders.

So is this in fact Demon Souls?  I can't watch any streams at work so I'm just curious.

And for those of us with 360's only last go-round, what do I need to know about Demon Souls?

If it is pull your hair out hard, like I understand Dark Souls is, I'll pass.

No it's a new IP from the Demon's Souls team.  Dark Souls was an evolution off of Demon's Souls, this sounds like the next evolution.

from Famitsu (via neogaf)

- Spring 2015 release window
- They started work on this right after finishing Artorias of the Abyss, targeting Sony's new hardware
- The world and story is completely new, and the setting takes full advantage of the PS4's capabilities
- They're targeting 30fps at 1080p
- The keywords for the game is "blood" and "beast"
- There will be melee and long range weapons (guns) this time
- Character customization is confirmed
- There will be no map display in the game
- He wants combat to not just focus on action but also the strategic element
- The combat in the game is designed to feel like a life or death struggle
- There will be online elements of some sort, and it will involve players "discovering" together

Activision hasn't done one in a long time.  Konami used to do one but stopped a few years back.  Deep Silver, Namco, Capcom, Square Enix, and Sega also don't have them.

This sounds about right. Not sure how I feel about this as a full release yet though. Will really depend on single player. I think I am probably leaning towards Rainbow Six Seige as my cops/robbers fix. I really want a good remake of SWAT 3.

You're looking at a Fall 2014 game v. a 2015 game though.

So we shouldn't expect anymore reveals today other than Nintendo, correct?

It's the last "conference" but there may be smaller reveals during the week.  Consider how many publishers don't have conferences, and how limited time on stage is for Sony,MS, and Nintendo.  So unless it's big or exclusive a few games could easily not show up in any of those conferences.

The problem with Sony is that everything is coming next year. Greatness awaits....and waits....and waits.....

Then there are the non-exclusives, for which the PS4 will have the superior console versions:

Against my better judgement I want to point out that you're assuming superiority on unreleased games.   Probably should follow the advice of some of my friends that no longer or very rarely visit this forum to engage anyone about the superior console, but until the game has been released no one can claim a superior version unless they have a release client for both games

Eh, it's a reasonably safe assumption at this point, the best you are going to see is parity.   Prior to release specs looked to show the PS4 hardware as superior, and everything released up to now pretty much backs that up.  It's going to be a pretty oddball title that performs uniformly better on the Xb1, and short of performance you are looking at if it will have any unique features on the format and dropping Kinect actually hurts them in that regard.

Microsoft does have a few more fall exclusives but when looking at exclusives I'm not sure any of them break into the top five selling games for the fall on their respective consoles, top ten might even be tough.  Are any going to outsell Destiny, CoD, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, or Dragon's Age?   Even on the remaster front I can see GTA outselling Halo and Last of Us.   So being the best console for third parties seems like a winning strategy to me right now.

And it just occurred to me--they didn't show a single sports game, did they?

Apart from Madden and NBA2K they don't have any.

They were tight with EA over Fifa, they gave it away free for the Europe launch.
233  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: E3 2014 on: June 09, 2014, 06:05:24 PM
Pretty underwhelmed by the MS showing.  I thought the most interesting things were the two indies, Ori and Inside(?).  Crackdown could go either way, the first was great for its time but the 2nd kind of faltered.  Phantom Dust and the Platinum to early to call as just CG, I know PD on Xbox has a lot of love but I never played it, and the CGI Scalebound trailer didn't do anything for me, kind of disappointing stylistically from Platinum.

There's no doubt about it. Sony, in particular, has been extremely secretive leading up to this year's E3. I'm expecting good things. In yesterday's Bonus Round on GameTrailers, Jeff Gerstmann also mentioned that the game he was the most excited about this E3 was one he couldn't talk about, which is promising.

That was Mortal Kombat X, which wasn't announced when they recorded those during judges week.   Jeff loves MK.

But they play nothing alike! Not even slightly! That's why I mentioned those crazy examples above. If you are very selective in how you distill them (Deus Ex and Doom: First person shooter. Baldur's Gate and Diablo: RPG) their genres stop having any meaning at all. Would you ever tell someone "if you like Infamous, you're going to like Watch Dogs", or vice versa? Of course not! It's not a valid comparison. The similarities between the two games are superficial at best. They both take place in an open world, but if that's a genre, then it's worthless as a way to describe the game, and what's the bloody point then?
They play about as close to each other as Saints Row 3 did to Saints Row 4.

And? I haven't played either of those games, so I have no point of comparison. If you've got a point, feel free to expand upon it so that we're on the same level here.

Really?  You should as they were quite good.  PC version of 4 is a good port too.   SR3 was an over the top GTA style game. In SR4 your character got Infamous style super powers including a super speed very similar to the one you see in Infamous:SS.

One could argue they are both open world super hero games.  Aiden is just more Batman while Delsin is an X-man, but Aiden definitely has gadget level super powers, I mean he can black out an entire city never mind all the small things he can do like exploding pipes etc.

I have another question, if folks don't mind addressing it. I like open world games particularly because there are a number of things to do; not only side quests, but just activities. I'm thinking like the hunting tasks in Far Cry 3, blowing up water towers in Just Cause 2, steal and selling cars in all the GTA games, things like that. The Watch Dogs promotion materials make it sound like there is a lot of these activities in WD, but are they fun? I didn't play cards in Red Dead Redemption more than a couple of times because there was nothing really interesting in it, or bowling in GTA4. Neither was fun after you got over the novelty. Are the diversions in Watch Dogs fun after the novelty has worn off?

The game is loaded with side content.  There's the in world stuff like random crimes to stop, criminal convoys, fixer missions, gang hideouts, and ctos towers.  Then there's the betting games: poker, drinking, chess, slots, 3 card monte.  Then there's the virtual games and trips, like 6 of these.  Im probably missing some tasks too.

Being a vigilante good guy is a nice change from GTA -- you're still stealing cars and doing other bad stuff... but with heart! slywink I'm enjoying the invasion multiplayer style way more than I expected to, both on offense and on defense. I also really like the freedom I feel I have in how I approach missions and side missions. Most of the time I don't feel on rails, and I can choose my own balance of stealth, hacking, and shooty shooty.

I feel it's super inconsistent with the presentation though.  I think Sleeping Dogs handled things a lot better with the under cover cop main character.
