Geralt just had his first "bow chicka bow wow", which ended...poorly.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I got busy with Kiera after a lovely dinner date and an interesting retelling of the Cinderella story.  No less than 5 minutes later, I decided to follow her to Fyke Isle to see what she was after. We argued over her plan to sell a "cure" for a disease to Radovid...an argument which ended when I cleaved her in half.

Guess he's just not... icon_cool...cut out for romance.
that ended pretty differently in my game.

It actually wasn't my intention at all, and I wasn't crazy about how it all unfolded.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Geralt and Kiera argued about the "cure" she was creating.  Kiera thought Radovic would buy it from her to help to populace at large, Geralt thought Radovic would bastardize it into some sort of biological WMD.  Kiera said something along the lines of "I'm going to take it to him no matter what you say", Geralt responded with "I won't let you do that"...and next thing I know I'm in combat with her.  Seemed a bit extreme, but I didn't feel like reloading a save and figured I'd just see what the fallout is.

In my game
Spoiler for Hiden:
I managed to talk her into going into hiding in Kaer Morhan and took the notes off her as well.

So how are these choices made? I didn't see anything in the trailer that seemed to show that aspect of the game play.

This is the playthrough from PSX this past December, though minus the crowd yelling what the guy on stage should do

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InhV7glyMl0

The choices start about halfway through, basically like quicktime events but instead of succeed/fail you are choosing between various options.

All this talk of armor makes me wonder.  Does different mass of armor have an effect on Geralt's ability to move, dodge, do quickness related moves? Just curious.

Ugh, I couldn't imagine his movement being even more sluggish.
I don't find him sluggish at all really, the movement is more jerky and clunky, but I don't find him slow.  I feel the problem comes from two factors, the excessive momentum on the character combined with the low amount of gradations on move speed on the analogue stick (basically just walk/run)

So is this just another "choose your own adventure" style interactive movie?

I would say yes but much truer to that concept and it seems rather appropriate here.  I think there's like 100 endings and 1000 branches.  Being basically a teen slasher movie, as the game goes you can end up getting any of the cast killed, so it can play out numerous different ways with completely different survivors in the end.  I think it has the potential to work really well here where with some other recent games the were much more linear affairs.  It looks to be rather replayable, which I don't think you could really say for something like The Order which is more gameplay with interactive cutscenes than "choose your own adventure."

From the stage demo at the Playstation Experience this looks like a game best played in front of a group of friends or streamed with everyone yelling at you what choice to make.

The quests and world design are really good but the movement and combat is super clunky especially coming off of Bloodborne.  Aggravating too in that almost every time I've died I feel like it's not my fault and a result of the clunky combat and lock on.

I've played for several hours now, but I have hardly touched the crafting and haven't done any alchemy or other stuff.

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like the game would be better off without these peripheral aspects.  Too much inventory juggling, and paying for crafting materials or paying for dismantling, trying to find the right person..it seems like a level of complication beyond what I want to deal with.

Alchemy is pretty central to the Witcher lore as I understand it, and they make more gameplay concessions this time around with being able to use potions in combat.

Off the top of my head and not mentioned above.

Castor's keep became rape central when the rogue Nights watch took over.  And I believe that was a show invention as well.

Jamie just barely managed to avert a gang rape of Brienne when they were captured.

I understand your point, but I disagree with a couple of things. I thought the Cersi/Jamie thing looked very consensual. I also get the feeling from the show no one is safe. My first thought Subday night was someone was going to die soon between the various plots. Too much stuff is building up. Maybe I am the exception in those 2 things?

The prior things Ramsey had done in the show have been FAR worse to Theon. I can't believe someone could continue watching after its very much implied that Theon had his penis cut off, but then a rape of a woman was over the line. Every time they show Theon I still wince.

Well the "reveling in doing bad things to main chracters" implies "no one is safe" but not vice versa.  The show is becoming misery porn in a way the books were not.

And with your Theon point, look at it this way, imagine every time a male character got into danger they were castrated or nearly castrated, that's sort of what's started going on with the show with rape.  If next week Jon Snow got violently castrated, then Tyrion a few weeks later you'd probably start to think, hey WTF?

Seems there is some internet outrage over this. Rape is horrible, but so are many things that happen in real life and TV shows, why should it not be covered? Plus, they didn't show it.

I am not sure it is rape though, at least not by today's standards. An arranged marriage in medieval times would be similar and was probably very normal. It was the wife's job to provide children and from my very limited understanding, servants would often be around. Of course it was a little different in this case.

People are always going to find things to get outraged about, just surprised people who like the TV show are somehow think this crossed the line compared to all the other horrible things that have happened.

The problem is the show is excessively rapey and continues to use it as a goto with female characters, this is exacerbated where this is not the case so much in the books,  the Cersei/Jamie chapel scene came off as consensual in the books as opposed to rape in the show, and the Sansa specific incident does not occur in the books at all.   The Sansa/Ramsay wedding is a TV show fabrication.
A key difference from the books, is that in the books you grew to feel no one was safe, whereas the show now feels like it is just reveling in doing bad things to the main characters, these two things are not the same.

There's more to them than that.  While I liked Mad Max, and Beyond Thunderdome (in parts) I'd say Road Warrior is really the only one you should definitely watch.

A bunch of ex-Rare developers have launched their Kickstarter for Yooka-Laylee, a spiritual successor to the old school 3D platforming of Banjo-Kazooie.

They just launched today and are already over 300% of their goal, so I think this one will make it.  slywink

I'm not as fond of these characters as I was of the bear and bird (or at least the bear), but I could definitely go for some of that platforming action that has been missing the last few years.  I think bringing back their old composers also really helps, that music set the mood for the old games.

Most titles in my gaming library are dark and violent. Every so often it's nice to pick up a title that is more lighthearted. For some reason I detest most of the Nintendo franchises, so I don't have those to fall back on. This looks great.

It also makes me really wish another Ratchet and Clank was on the horizon.

There's a PS4 re-imagining of the first game in the works.  Probably see it at E3, it's been known about since last June or so but no media or anything.

And here's a pretty epic full match I had earlier.  I make some good plays, some terrible ones, and some really lucky ones.  Game goes to overtime.  I tend to play with ballcam on, you can also toggle it off so the camera stays behind the car but I find it harder to keep track of the ball that way.

This is a sequel to a PS3 game I'd never heard of (Supersonic Rocket Powered Battle Cars) coming to PS4 and PC this summer.
It's presently in a public closed beta on the PS4, which will be running until May 3rd and you can still sign up for http://psyonix.com/BC2/Invite/RocketLeagueSignupPS4.php?Keyword=PSBlog

Basically it's 3v3 soccer played with RC cars with jumpjet boosters.   From my limited time with the beta it's pretty fun, but some games resemble soccer as played by 3 year olds, with everyone just chasing madly after the ball.  Your teammates also can cause you more problems than your opponent, whether by bumping you or the ball as you are lining up a perfect shot in their zest to just hit it.

Some highlights from someone far more skilled than I am at the game, though I have pulled off an epic save and scored some cool goals.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdVmqssa5v4&hd=1

I'm not sold on the name, as I was expecting something quite different from that alone.

15 is the marker for a lot of enemy changes.  40, 50, and 60 are for visual/audio changes.   So with 50 I'm guessing you just had the memory bug going and had effectively been playing the game on easy mode.

One of two things, either you had experienced the memory leak bug, or you just got insight to a gameplay altering level, though that only effects normal enemy abilities and not bosses.

I also like to be methodical and calculating, so these fast twitch FPS games like CoD or even Battlefield just don't really do it for me anymore.

Trolls and griefing have existed since the dawn of online gaming, heck I'd argue before then in the arcades.   FPS games are actually a bit slower these days thanks to consoles than they were 15 years ago, Quake/UT (especially instagib) are faster/twitchier than CoD etc.

Some of the bosses I'd say are the hardest in the game but not insurmountable.  The defiled chalice is old fashioned Souls hard as you have to run it at half health, and one of the bosses has a move that can pretty much one shot you if you get careless.  Thankfully you only need to do one defiled chalice to progress.

No, the alleged intricacies of Bloodborne are mostly overblown by people who aren't familiar with game.  It's perfectly intuitive for gamers who pay attention.

I've been watching through the 6-hour marathon livestream the folks at Game Informer did through the midnight release.  I just reached the part where they're unable to progress until they find the "bag man" who randomly spawns somewhere in the zone so they can intentionally let him kill their character.  He hasn't appeared yet as of my last viewing, but they think they can increase his spawn chance if they get their accrued blood echoes to a prime number.

-Autistic Angel

Lol, the Bag Men spawn after you kill a certain boss, and you don't actually need them to proceed in the game, they just open up a certain area earlier.

The games are sort of old school in their approach and are antithetical to what is currently popular in game design.  Very little is surfaced, there is a narrative but you aren't going to get it with lots of exposition or long cut scenes.  Mechanically there is no direction of what to do next in the world or where to go, these games shun conventions such as way points.  In some ways it harkens back to the original Legend of Zelda on the NES.
