Loved it! - Because it doesn't try to have that dark heavy feel the first trailers have gone for.  It reminds me of the first movie.

And this interview with Joss ran after the trailer on Youtube.  Slight spoilers so don't watch if you are worried about that kind of thing.

That's a shame. That's a really brilliant piece of artwork.

As a society I think we're really in danger of watering down everything into a mush of mediocrity in an attempt not to offend anyone's "delicate sensibilities."

I am so old....but considering what was acceptable when I was a boy compared to what is commonplace now I don't think we are in any danger of watering down everything.   There is so, so, so much more offensive stuff today than would have been allowed years ago that I don't see any danger of that.

Gametrailers is streaming the demo on Twitch now (Tuesday 3/17 8am central).  It will be archived so you can watch it later.

Pretty.  Combat reminds me of Xenoblade.  Real time, members doing their own things, etc.

*edit*

Apparently some embargo lifted today because Joystiq/Engadget is now streaming it as well.

I like their cometary better because I remember the voice from other Joystiq streams.

Nintendo's 3DS beats out PS4 and Xbox One for February hardware sales

Quote

Nintendo's 3DS platform outsold Xbox One and PlayStation 4 throughout February in the U.S., the company's American arm announced in a press release following data provided by The NPD Group.

The 3DS family, which emcompasses the Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL and the New 3DS XL, sold 395,000 units across the U.S. last month. According to Nintendo, "The great majority of these sales were New Nintendo 3DS XL systems, which sold 130 percent more units in its initial frame than Nintendo 3DS XL did when it launched."

During the first two months of this year, sales of 3DS hardware have increased more than 90 percent compared to this same period last year. The recently released The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was the top-selling game of February as well, while Nintendo's Wii U sales have increased by more than 20 percent over sales during the same period in 2014.

Sony's PlayStation 4 is February's highest-selling home console in the U.S., it was also announced. According to Sony, this refers specifically to home console sales and not overall hardware, adding that the PS4 remains the "cumulative leader in hardware sales with more than 20.2 million units sold" worldwide.

Microsoft notes a similarly positive February for its Xbox One, stating it's experienced "record February sales in the U.S." with 84 percent more consoles sold compared to January 2015.

"All three categories of hardware, new physical software, and accessories experienced sales increases in February 2015 with combined sales of $956 million, up 8 percent over last February," said The NPD Group's Liam Callahan.

And the new 3DS didn't even come out until Feb 13 so only half a month.

My thoughts;  It is fun, strategy light.

I will copy a post by LordGek on Toucharcade's forums to describe the gameplay.

Quote
You are racing about the galaxy trying to earn favor from its inhabitants via various tactical combat missions while a couple of other AI controlled fleets are doing the exact same thing. While there are a few ways to win, the main one is simply winning over 51% of the galaxy's population. Run a mission for a planet and you'll gain both favor and some valuable resources. Do missions for the same planet a couple of times before the AI get a chance to do so and then you'll own the planet which grants you even more resources and puts you completely in charge of its defense.

These resources you collect come in a few different forms and each of the palnets you gain influence over will have its own specialties. Off the top of my head I can't recall which does what other than some obvious stuff like food allows you to build cities (more cities on a planet the higher their resource production), research allows you to improve your various ship functions, and metal is used to create/repair/improve ships.

While the various empire ships can all look different, they're all essentially the same basic ships with just different ratings on their individual components. Even research, at least as I've seen so far, will never offer up any radically new components or weapons, just ways for your existing guns to do more damage or your shields to absorb more punishment.

One concpet pretty original is the whole Shore Leave thing. The game allows you to decide how much you want to get done in a single turn at the cost of greater and greater crew fatigue for each mission you take in that single turn. While resources will only be generated once on all of your systems at the end of your turn, you could just keep it safe and run a single mission that turn with your crew at peak efficiency, or end up doing 3 or more missions with a crew practically falling asleep (stats for the ship are lower and enemy hits will do extra damage) by the end.

I had a lot of trouble with the touch interface.  Several times I touched an area to move the map so I could look around and my ship moved to that place.  When you upgrade a ship you have a confirmation check box why not have that for movement?  I could see the trouble with people moving all over to scope out enemies but that seems easy to solve - you don't see anything about an area until you check the accept box.

Anyway, it is fun for the short I got to play.

Anyone try the demo?

I got it last night and I have to say I was disappointed.  I loved the quirky setting, the art style, and even some of the gameplay but it left me cold.  I think it was how they did the camera.  It never felt fluid.

I think it went from a buy to a buy used down the road.
