2681  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Disgaea 2 Impressions on: August 31, 2006, 04:11:58 PM
I loved the first one but I just never had enough time to commit to it.  The sequel seems to be even longer...so that means it is out for me.

I really wish they would put out a smaller version of the game (meaning less to do) for those of us who are wimps when it comes to taking on long games.

2682  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Question of the CEENNTTUURRRRYY! on: August 12, 2006, 02:23:32 AM
I think the only good option is to donate that money to a charity and spend the time you would have spent playing on those consoles volunteering with those in need.

Ultimately that will be more rewarding.....
2683  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / FS/FT: Logitech G15 keyboard on: August 10, 2006, 08:22:51 PM
This keyboard for sale or trade.

It is in perfect shape but I just love ergonomic keyboards, so I am switching back.  It is a great gaming keyboard and I will miss the lighting but I like the split keyboard more!

New they are $70 or so,  so I figure $40 would be good (not including shipping).  I honestly can't think of what to trade for but I have a PC, 360, PS2, DS, and a Cube so I will consider about anything.

PM me if your interested

In practice mode get so you can pull off the characters combos repeadly whenever you want.   Only when you have them memorized can you just whip them off during a fight.

I'm sorry, whether psychotic or not, she deserves the death penalty.  If you are that evil, or that mentally ill, and commit such a heinous crime, I don't believe you get a second chance, period.

People recover from heart attacks every day.  Being so psychotic or mentally ill to kill five children?  I doubt they recover, and can ever function in society.  They need to be punished.

But do you punish the person who had a heart attack for what happened while they were incapacitated?

Quote
The voice of reason?  Five murdered children.  Five drowned children.  The children watched and tried to flee as they watched the other children murdered.  Voice of reason??????

Concerning dealing with the mentally ill, yes warning is a voice of reason.  Obviously she had no "reason" when she committed the acts.  No one is saying she did.

Quote

Are all killers insane then?  Something has to be wrong to murder someone...

No actually it is very hard to get win an insanity plea.  It is not a very good defense becuase the bar is very high for proving it.

Quote
I'm sure it makes some people comfortable to know that

there must be some excuse, or some nice, tidy bin we can file her in.  She wasn't evil, or a horrid person...  she should be cared for and cured, she deserves more chances, heck, she didn't know she ended the life of five people, can't blame her...

I don't think it makes anyone feel better or more comfortable.  They simply don't want to punish people for actions they were not responsible for.

Quote
I suppose its common for mentally ill people, and psychotic people to drown children all the time, right?  A fairly common, curable sickness.  As a society, we just need to accept these hundreds of mentally ill child murderers, cure them, and let them get back to having children.  How could I not see that reason?

No one said anything of the sort.  This case is very uncommon which is probably why it got so much press.

What kind of precedents does this set?  People can now kill their children, and plead insanity?  How many children do people have to kill to be found not guilty now?

The precedent is that no matter what you do, if you have a good lawyer (or can act like it really well), you can plead insanity and get off of any crime.

The worst part? If later down in life, if she's judged as being able to return to society, she can. Even though she murdered 5 of her kids.

And I thought celebrities got off too easily.

On the other hand maybe she is bat shit insane.  Maybe, just maybe it wasn't something she could control at all and punishing her with prison would serve no purpose.
2687  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PSP] Vice City Stories to be $50?! on: July 25, 2006, 03:40:35 PM

2688  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PSP] Vice City Stories to be $50?! on: July 25, 2006, 12:56:00 PM
According to Gamespot it will be $50.

I cannot imagine paying that much for a handheld game but I guess if you have fewer units out there you need to charge more per game to make money.
2689  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [DS] Lunar: Dragon Song worth playing? on: July 17, 2006, 01:45:27 AM
I have held the game a couple times but I can't bring myself to buy it.  I have just heard to much bad stuff.

I think what finally tipped me over the edge was reading that you lost health when running on the map.  That is just piss poor game design.  It punishes the player for no reason what-so-ever.

2693  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PS3's good points? on: July 05, 2006, 01:41:32 PM
Well if Blu-Ray wins it will be a very good point for the PS3.

Other than that...it should look better in the 2nd and 3rd generation games since it has more horsepower.

What confuses me is that Sony officials keep talking about the potential of the PS3.  What potential?  It will be able to play movies and play video games.  That is it.  It won't be a DVR, a router, or control the thermostat in my house.    While it may do those two things extremly well I don't see how it has more "potential" than the 360 or any other game console.

The story is pretty interesting, and the dialogues are pretty consistently good. But farley make sure you collect all 108 stars! The "normal" ending just came out of nowhere and irks me to no end. The "good" ending is far more satisifying.

The first two possibles are exactly why I know I will not get all 108

The first, Cornelio, is time based so if you don't get him by a certain point you lose him....but I have no reason to go back to that town!  I woulc bet that most people miss him.

The second, Sairoh....well let me quote a FAQ "Sairoh is a hard character to get, if not the most annoying in the game.
First, you need to get him to ask you to lower the price of Salt.  This can be
a pain as it is.  The first chance he will do this is after you have defended
Raftfleet.
To get him to ask you to lower the price of salt, you'll have to wait until
the game RANDOMLY raises the salt price in the first place.  There is no way
to control this, though you may want to try to buy all the salt out of
multiple locations and then sell it back a few times to try and influence it a
bit."

So I have to wait until he randomly decides to lower the price!  Come on.  Just how much time do I really need to invest?

I cannot imagine how it would be possible to get all 108 stars without a FAQ or multiple play throughs.

2696  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Spider-Man's Back in Black on: June 28, 2006, 02:42:27 PM
I am interested but I can't imagine they can fit all that stuff in one movie.  3 villians and a love triangle, plus his own mental problems from the black suit.

I will see it but I can't imagine how they will provide quality time for all of those story lines.

I figured that was the case but I just don't have time to obsess about completeness.  I can't imagine being able to get all 108 without a FAQ becuase I think some people you have to get at certain times and if you don't you are s.o.l.

This is what Youtube is for.  I have alread watched all the endings for Final Fantasy 10!   I expect that I will be able to find the good ending for Suikoden when I am done.

Strange that I didn't notice any of that. Maybe I'm more forgiving than you about the slowdown since I didn't notice any slowdown when I played it.

You are also more forgiving than several reviews I have read which mention the slowdown issues.  You are a very good person smile

The only time it really, really jarred me was when leaving the castle to go to Stormfist.  It was very, very noticable and really there wasn't much going onbut there were several people standing around you could talk to.
2699  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The programers for Suikoden 5 should be fired on: June 23, 2006, 01:31:42 PM
The writers should be given raises but the programers - boot their asses.

This has to be the worst programed game I have ever played.  Frequent load screens, huge but sparse level design, slowdowns in many areas and very poor controller response are all the faults of the programers (well the sparse level design may have been someone elsees fault).  It is almost inexusable - and if the story and characters were not so good it would be out the door by now.

I am just up to Stormfist and the story is really getting interesting but I am more and more fustrated with the quality of everything else.  I hit the button to bring up the menu and sometimes it doesn't even come up and when it does it is very slow.  I try to talk to people and generally have to wiggle around and hit the X button several times to get it to initiate conversation.   Then when I am in areas with over 10 people I start getting slowdowns!

Man, this story better be kick-ass.

2 HDMI outputs - I guess so you could send signal to two TVs?
2 ethernet ports - I believe they claimed the PS3 could be a router.
and
2 USB ports - I really don't know the big deal since you could still use a USB hub I would think.

How would one go about this?  I am tired of fighting my wife for the TV so it would be a great thing to be able to play my PS2 on the computer.   I have just picked up Suikoden V so I have 60 hours of time I need.  I can't imagine getting her away from the TV that long.

So what do I need?

The thing is that this game comes close to crossing the lines, but it doesn't. And it doesn't come close to the inappropriateness of a baby raping sim.

I completely agree that not all things should be published, and I am all for standards, but I am completely against knee jerk reactions by companies, and this seemed like an over-sensitive move on Sony's part.

Next time I won't use "guy speak" when I reference things like this, so as not to confuse the matter.

I honestly don't know if the game crosses a line, but after seeing the trailer I know it crosses my personal line.

Of course this is what the rating system should deal with.  The game can be published but it should probably be AO.

Hell I don't even think I'll play the game but I don't want to see it not published because a publisher doesn't have the balls.

I am not sure how I feel about this.  Should any and every game be published no matter how violent/perverted/etc. the subject?  Should a baby raping sim be published just to show that american's "have the balls" to do it?

I think for me the answer is no.  We should have some things that don't get into video games/movies/etc.  I don't think that means we don't have balls but that we have standards.
2705  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Windows Vista - 40 page preview on: June 02, 2006, 03:48:53 PM
After reading that whole article it seems like Vista is pointless for gamers - except for DirectX 10.

The changes

Windows interface changes...which oddly are just things MACs have been able to do for a long time.

IP6 - great and nice but until all the routers, switches, etc. in the world support IP6 this will be unused.

New games.  Big whoop.  (although I am addicted to Freecell)

More interface improvments concerning actually telling you what the heck is going on with windows.  Tha is nice but that isn't really a big enough change to buy an OS.

Generally I think Vista is a lot of pretty stuff which means nothing really.
2706  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / KOTOR 3 News? on: May 16, 2006, 12:45:14 PM
I loved both games to varing degrees and I do hope they put out another one.  It is a very good setting I think since Lucas hasn't pissed all over it (I am sure in KoToR 3 he will demand that C3P0 makes an appearance)

However I am still annoyed at the huge gaps in KOTOR2.  I wanted to know what happened to the remote, the wookie, etc.

For me it was like reading a mystery and then having the end botched.  No matter how good the writing up to that point, it still spoils the experience.

This movie is simply too much, too soon.  It's not that the story shouldn't be told.  But this is still a gaping wound in the American collective conscious.

Platoon was done almost 15 years after the Vietnam War.  Munich was just released 30 years after the Israeli Olympic Team suffered their horrid fate.  JFK was made over 20 years after the assassination in Dallas.  Time heals.  This movie was made much, much too soon.

More and more things happen quickly in our society.

We have TV shows about the Iraq war - which is still going on.  We have made for TV movies months after real life events (where husbands kill wives, or wives kill husbands, etc., etc.)

While I find the movie offensive, I think that 5 years is actually a pretty long time by today's standards.
