Here is the first review I have seen for the english version.

It is from IGN and they give it a 8.5 Great overall.

Just saw the first trailer during the super bowl, and I wasn't blown away.  Looked ok, but it didn't have the magic I felt when I saw the first Spiderman trailer or the first Ironman trailer.

What actor, or director, or really anyone involved in a film says "yeah the story it pretty stupid, the special effects are crap.  I really hate working on this"?

It is great that Hugh is excited and that he thinks the movie will be great but Jennifer Aniston thought that before The Bounty Hunter came out and it was nominated as one of the worst films of the year.

Based on the crap which was the first Wolverine movie they have to prove it is good by actually making something good, not just talking about how good it will be.

2684  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Let's talk Iphone on: February 04, 2011, 05:05:02 PM
I think the same thing when people say that Android is the best selling smart phone - no it isn't.  The iPhone is.  Android is an OS which runs on many different phones no one of which is the best seller.  It gets hard because people use the terms interchangeably.

Now if we want to talk about screwed lets look at the Win 7 phone.  What possible advantage does it have over iOS or Android?

2685  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [DS/iPad] Ghost Trick Phantom Detective on: February 04, 2011, 03:30:15 PM
I snagged a copy and have played 5-6 hours.  So far it is very fun.  It has a good story, and interesting characters.  I will say that is has bee very, very easy so far.  If you read the thought bubbles you pretty much know exactly what to do but I don't mind that so much because the story is interesting enough.  All in all I am very happy with it so far.

Most of that stuff is in the new season so I am not surprised you didn't know.  Anything for ratings! smile
2688  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Google won't autocomplete "bittorrent" but will autocomplete "how to kidnap a ch on: January 27, 2011, 10:16:08 PM
I have seen this news in several different places but I thought Boing Boing had the best title.

apparently Google has started soft censoring bittorrent stuff but as was pointed out

"Google won't autocomplete searches for "bittorrent," but if you are interesting in learning how to kidnap someone, make meth, build a bomb, cheat on your taxes, or shoplift, they will happily autocomplete your search for you."

It seems like a stupid, stupid move on their part.  It does nothing but make them look bad.

Hint as to the price in this interview.

When I asked about price, Yoshida replied, "We are not talking about price yet, but I hope that when we announce the price, people will say it makes sense."

Anyone remember the way they tried to convice consumers that the original PS3 price was a bargain because of how great the system was?  It was so powerful, it had a blue ray player, etc., etc.  The language they are using smacks of the same thing.  It is going be very high priced and they are going to pitch it as our fault if we don't understand the value we are getting!

Dead Space HD looks okay. To be honest it looks good "for an iphone/pad game," but not for any dedicated gamers. Just one look at the stuff shown for the 3DS and now the NGS shows what dedicated gaming platforms can do.

You are right.

Dang it.  I can't get the youtube video of Nintendogs 3ds to imbed!  Wasted sarcasm!  Grr

I honestly don't think it can.  There has yet to be a game with a virtual pad on iOS that I have played that I felt comfortable with.  Can I play the game?  Sure.  Do I always feel like I am fumbling?  Yes.

Not to mention that it blocks your view of the screen.

Try Dead Space.  It works pretty darn well - not as good as real sticks but pretty great for the limitations.  So people are developing new ways to deal with the issues.

It does say when you are checking out:   You are guaranteed price when preorder price drops, and you aren't charged until shipping.    Obviously anticipating questions like mine.

I admire your enthusiasm.  Personally I expect there to be some "perks" for ordering from different places so I want to wait and see what those are.

Couple points to yours Bob -- based on my opinion only of course:

1.  The iphone controls suck

Yes they do.  This is the biggest weakness.  Dead Space on the iPad looks phenomenal but the controls are serviceable at best.  However that is a problem which can be dealt with.

Yes.  It is still their content even if they offered it at one time for free.  If they are not providing it it is illegal for you to take it.

Unfortunately, manuals don't come with downloaded PSN games.  If they did, I'd most certainly take a look at one.

Might try to hit up GameFAQs and see if I can piece things together from some walkthroughs there.

I have used this guide a like it for general overview stuff.

I think I'm remembering why this game never grabbed me the first time.  I'm 2 hours in now...and don't have a freaking clue what the hell is going on.  I understand the basics of combat (i.e. move, choose weapon, attack), but there's so much other stuff happening and none of it is ever explained.  What are these medals that keep flashing up as I take actions?  What are these skills that the game is suddenly asking me if I want to equip mid battle, and how do I activate or change them?  Why are the enemy pilots randomly ejecting from their Wanzers mid-battle, then jumping back in again?  Why am I getting "morale down" messages from the enemy, and what am I supposed to do with that information?  Why are my attacks damaging different parts of the enemy?  Am I controlling that, or is it random?

Outside of the very basic initial tutorial, absolutely nothing is explained in-game.  I consider myself a rather seasoned SRPG gamer, and am completely lost on this one so far.

Your attacks randomly target a part of the enemy body.  You have no control.  So if you use a sniper rifle you will hit 1 part for high damage, but if you use a shotgun you may hit many parts for less damage.  That is because it is each shot which is random so 10 shotgun shots can hit 10 different body parts (well there are not 10 but you get the idea) but a single shot gun can only hit one part.

There is a lot of random stuff in the activation of skills, damage, which part is damaged, etc.  And quite frankly most of it doesn't matter.  80% of the time you have to completely destroy the enemy.  Everyone once in awhile though you can get new parts if you haven't destroyed them but defeat the enemy.

At least that is what I remember.
It can be confusing.  I would go to Gamefaqs and read some guides.  That is what I did when the game came out.

Generally medals are like skill levels.  So if Emma has an A with missiles, and Roy (roy?) has a B, Emma is more likely to hit with that weapon.  So give weapons they are high it to characters.

Skills you get randomly with different weapons and machine parts so equipping a part my allow you to learn "zoom"  Once you have learned a skill you can equip it so it might trigger randomly.

When attacked a character may be kicked out of their Wanzer. It is random.  Since you can't do squat for damage out of the machine everyone tries to get back in ASAP.

Low moral will cause them to be less accurate and sometimes not act at all.

Looks nice but it was never the special effects that hurt the movies.  It is the acting and the stories.  So this trailer looks great but doesn't really tell us anything about the actual movie.

sudo basically means "do as a super user" in Unix/Linux.  Super users can do everything and anything on a Unix/Linux system.  Kind of like every user in Windows smile  So it would be a command that could not be resisted.  You put it before the command like "sudo del file"

It has actually been used before by XKCD in a way that pretty much explains what it means to use the awesome power of "sudo"
