Lost in history (New York)

Painters hang from suspended wires on the Brooklyn Bridge October 7, 1914. (31 years after it first opened)

Workers dig in Delancy Street on New York's Lower East Side in this photo dated July 29, 1908.

The Manhattan Bridge is less than a shell, seen from Washington Street in the photo dated June 5, 1908.

This is the original April 18, 1936 booking photo for Charles 'Lucky' Luciano. Luciano is considered the father of organized crime in New York and was the first to divide the city sections controlled by five mob families.

Workers lay bricks to pave 28th Street in Manhattan on October 2, 1930.

In this September 30, 1936, Works Progress Administration, Federal Writerís Project, photo provided by the New York City Municipal Archives, a man hands a program to baseball legend Babe Ruth, center, as he is joined by his second wife Clare, center left, and singer Kate Smith, front left, in the grandstand during Game One of the 1936 World Series at the Polo Grounds in New York.

The Third Avenue elevated train rumbles across lower Manhattan in this undated photo. City Hall can be seen in the background.

In 1936, the Triborough Bridge, which links Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx, was not yet complete. The Hells Gate Railroad Bridge looms in the distance

I am loving it.  It took me awhile to get back into the Doom grove but they have captured the feel so well.  Just like in the old game I run around the map killing everything and then start looking for the secrets.  I don't have to worry about enemies respawning, or missing something because I can't go back.

My kind of shooter.

Topic type and title stolen shamelessly from Reddit but I thought this would fit better in that type of thread and others might find things like this that didn't really warrant their own topic but are kind of interesting.

Why old statues have tiny penises

Quote
...small penises were more culturally valued is that large penises were associated with very specific characteristics: foolishness, lust and ugliness. There are actually quite a few ancient Greek sculptures that have enormous penises.

Quote
Small dicks are, then, associated with reason and logic. The argument gets strained when applied to the western renaissance, where imitation and idealism intersect more sharply with religious sentiment.

Rarely, very rarely has a game been great but they just didn't want reviewers to put out reviews early.

 Where's Polygon's Doom review?

Quote
Publisher Bethesda informed Polygon and other outlets in the middle of last week that they would not be providing advance copies of the game for review. Their explanation appears below.

DOOM is comprised of a single-player campaign, online multiplayer, and SnapMap. After discussing, we believe all three elements are important parts of the complete DOOM experience, and are meant to be experienced as part of a complete package. As DOOM’s SnapMap and multiplayer modes both require access to a server that won’t be live prior to launch, review copies will arrive on launch day.

Personally I still like gaming but it isn't as big of a thrill as it was.  I remember very fondly having the buy an SVGA card so I could play Myst!  It was so cool.

I think it doesn't happen now because there are just so many games.  It is hard to get excited about one game because I am already being bombarded with ads about the next great one.  It has become such a money maker, such an industry that a lot of the charm has gone out of it.

I turn the combat to easy.  What I love are the pretty visuals, the acting, the story and the exploration.  They never made combat feel meaningful to me.

Either the Polygon review or the Ars one mentioned the final kill count for #4 as being over 700.  That is just silly.

I finished it...and really you can skip it.  It was ok I guess but it wasn't as great as the first 2 so just jumping to #4 might be more fun.
