There are now 25 known codes to redeem, and a kind soul on Reddit wrote a little javascript you can use to have them all entered automatically, even if you've already put in a few manually.

Thanks, I wasn't going to bother but this made it too easy not to.

Yup.  How could I resist?  Now if they could just make a script for finding enough time to play!

I got Wonderputt since free is always worth getting.  It is pretty fun.  I don't know how long it will keep my attention since it seems to be the same holes over again with different challenges but it has been fun so far.

Destiny optimized for remote play on Vita

Destiny launches next Tuesday, but for PS4 owners who have inconvenient friends and family hogging the living room television, you'll also be able to access the game on Vita with optimized remote play controls.

Shown above by Sid Shuman of the PlayStation Blog, the game's control scheme has been changed on the portable device to allow grenade throws and melee attacks by tapping the left and right side of the touch screen, respectively. We'll be sure to take this feature for a test drive from our porcelain thrones.

Never heard of them, that I know of.  It reminds me of The Pet Shop Boys, etc. from the 1980s - which isn't bad at all but I just feel like I should be doing jazzercise while listening. smile

166  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Hyrule Warriors is out on: September 04, 2014, 07:36:51 PM
*edit*  I just changed the topic title so people could have somewhere to talk about it.

Seems from the reviews to be exactly what you would expect; a reasonably fun smashem up.

What is the deal with Japanese game franchises doing Dynasty Warriors clones?  First it was Hyrule Warriors and now I see that Dragon Quest is hopping on the bandwagon with Dragon Quest Heroes.

Dynasty Warriors has been around for years so why this interest now?

Kind of fun.  And it was apparently directed by Joseph Kosinski who directed Oblivion and Tron Legacy.

I don't think I understand the whole pre-loading excitement.  I expect I will be able to play the game on release day whether I start pre-loading now or on Monday night.  Is there something really cool I am missing?

I finished this up last night, great game but I know I won't play it again so I am selling it off for $30 or I would trade it but really the only game I am looking for on the PS4 is Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.  However I would take the trade.

PM me if your interested.

178  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Teaching kids about on-line safety - I thought I had more time! on: August 29, 2014, 03:28:37 PM
Last night my boys (6 and Cool started talking about playing Minecraft online on the ipads.  I thought they were just talking about a world they created but apparently the neighbor boy had given them the IP of a server.  So I now have to think about what to tell them about playing online - I was expecting to wait a few more years....

Anyway what would you tell kids that age?  Since they are in a game I think they can only chat but I also think they might be naive enough to say just about anything.....

I found this on line  but wondered if others had experience talking to their young ones about the wider world of the Internet.

181  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hollywood will reboot anything - Underworld on: August 28, 2014, 04:11:23 PM
Blue Vampires With Guns Rejoice, Underworld Is Getting A Total Reboot

The Underworld movie franchise is getting a reboot. Because vampires doing flips in leather catsuits sell movie tickets, dammit.

THR is reporting that Lakeshore Entertainment is going to reboot the entire Underworld vampire franchise. Probably because they've run out of stories for Kate Beckinsale to roundhouse through while shooting silver bullets in a blue filter. Alas.

The films shall start all over under the pen of Cory Goodman, who wrote the 2011 movie Priest, which felt a lot like an Underworld movie in the amount of action to storyline ratio. No doubt the reboot is an attempt to make money off the Underworld name, but I'm curious if people will want anyone but Beckinsale to take on the role of vampire Selene, as she was pretty bad ass. We shall see.

I think part of it is you have smoke for a long time before getting neon but I only had neon for a short time before video so I don't feel like I had time to get as bored with it.

Notably (and thankfully, imo) it misses the following aspects from every bad boss encounter you surely hate:

Timed battle (bonus points for not having this, plus a few more for not being an invisible timer)
Regular un-avoidable attack that does massive damage unless you do a very specific counter/block/move at the exact moment.
Resistant against all attacks except your special moves.

I was going to add that it didn't have the "destroy all X before you can hurt the boss" mechanic but then in the 3rd stage it did where you had to kill the angles guarding the big angle before you could hurt him.

All in all after beating it I think it wasn't that bad it just feels out of place and unwanted.

Oh and "video" power sucks so far so I don't even expect to use it much.
185  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Ps4] inFAMOUS: Second Son on: August 25, 2014, 07:04:07 PM
Rather than dig through this whole thread let me just rant.

I f-ing hate boss battles.  I have been loving the game up to the point where I have to face the Angel conduit.  It has every stupid hallmark of a boss battle - which I hate!

It doesn't even f*&%ing fit even remotely with the rest of the game play up to that point.  I spent hours running around town climbing things choosing how to defeat enemies and using many different powers but no now I have to f-ing fight in a boxed in area where the safe spots disappear so I have to keep running around, and of course the boss is strong enough that I need to constantly seek out more ammo.  Of course the boss has three stages where he gets different powers or protections so I have to figure that out while jumping around like an idiot over lava.

I can't think of any boss battle cliche they don't cover.  It is maddening and stupid.  Why do developers think they have to include this.  It is like a stupid checklist or something.

186  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Amazon bought Twitch on: August 25, 2014, 06:45:40 PM

Amazon—not Google—reportedly buying Twitch for $1 billion

Well-sourced site The Information (subscription required) is claiming that Amazon is in "late stage talks" to purchase, the video game streaming site, for $1 billion.

Three months ago, Variety first reported that Google was set to purchase the site for the same amount, but we've yet to hear anything official from either company. We've been starting to wonder if the Google/Twitch deal would ever become official; and if Twitch is still courting other suitors, it would explain why that deal has yet to happen.

I guess I could care less as long as it stays free and relatively without ads a

Legend of Grimrock still coming for iOS.

A friend of us and a coder extraordinaire, Juha Pinola has now been working on the iOS version of Legend of Grimrock 1 for some time and the game is shaping up really well. We do not know the release date just yet other than “when it’s done” but we’ll let you know when we know, ok? The game isn’t just a direct port from the PC version of Legend of Grimrock. We have always felt that the game wouldn’t work on touch screens straight out of the box but needed a few custom mechanics to get the benefits of the touch interface.

188  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Do you buy DVDs anymore? on: August 19, 2014, 09:25:45 PM
Captain America: The Winter Solider comes out this week and I am going to buy it.  For some reason I am thinking of buying digital and wondered how common it was.   I think if I do it I will buy from Amazon, not because I love them but because I know I will be able to play it on my iPad, PS4, and computer.  If I bought it from the PSN store or the Apple store I would be locking myself in to a specific device.

Anyone else made the switch to digital?  Do you miss the boxes?

George R.R. Martin To Republish 'Game Of Thrones' Children's Book

If there’s one thing we’ve all thought as we watched a brutal swordfight or X-rated act of incest on HBO's drama “Game of Thrones,” it’s definitely “I wish I had an age-appropriate way to share this story with my young kid/niece/nephew/godchild.” Now, finally, winter is coming for the kids as well. This fall, Tor is rereleasing George R.R. Martin’s 1980 children’s story The Ice Dragon, which is set in the same A Song of Ice and Fire world as "Game of Thrones."

The Ice Dragon was originally published as part of a 1980 anthology, Dragons of Light. In 2007, the story was released as a book, but it is no longer in print -- meaning for several years now, children have had no way to experience "Game of Thrones" mania for themselves, short of scouring used book stores and eBay for a used copy. The new edition, re-imagined with delicate, dreamy illustrations by Spanish artist Luis Royo, hits bookstores Oct. 21.

This may surprise you...

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' is a Hollow Shell of a Movie

At one point in the latest iteration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, our heroes in a half-shell are flying through the sewers on their way back home after a victory against the Foot Clan. After some quick sliding, flipping, skateboarding and more they all go flying towards the entrance back to their home pipe, but all four of them end up getting stuck in the doorway, and Michelangelo farts. That's what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feels like amidst an onslaught of remakes, reboots and sequels: another fart from the studio system that churns out films like this as if they were delivery pizzas that not even the turtles will eat.
