Of course it might be annoyance at how huge it is but hey it is the universe we live in.

The HD graphics are absolutely gorgeous, although the characters still have that telltale stiff and awkward movement that comes with PS2 games.

The thing that struck me, and I admit it is petty, is that Tidus' necklace is part of the torso model.  I know it seems silly but to have it quite clearly attached made it look odd.  I guess I am spoiled.

Still loving the game though.

Oddly I just rewatched Ep 1 with my kids because I figured they were old enough now and it is pretty tame really...

Anyway I would say the 2 new Treks certainly had more ... weight but less grandeur.  I think of Star Wars as a grand epic and the two Treks didn't feel that way at all they felt very tiny really.  You see a few different races but it seems to only take 10-15 minutes to get from Earth to Kronos (I am sure a Trekkie will say I spelled it wrong) and you never get a sense of any Klingon culture.  They do feel like just action flicks.  Star Wars doesn't feel that way to me.  It always felt like there was something bigger about it.

But JJ Abrams vs. George Lucas

I think Alias was a great show but I found Star Trek: Into Darkness terrible and Star Trek no much better.

I have seen this posted on most entertainment news sites and I think it is neat but I am more surprised by how excited people are for any scrap of news.  Don't get me wrong, I am interested in the film but I remember watching the leaked trailer for Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and being so excited for it...then actually seeing it.  I think it scared me because I just can't believe this will be a great movie.  I hope to be wrong but I think I will just have to wait.

I sell almost everything via Amazon anymore.  Ebay was just not working well.  I had a few people cancel after winning the auction, etc.   I have been very happy with it so far.  It is easy and I seem to sell more.

Horrible seems pretty strong.  I thought it was a fun (and somewhat flawed) Diablo clone.

Perhaps.  I think Nox was a better clone though

Once I looked at the page I remember that game...and it was horrible.  Why can't they port the great RPGs of the age rather than the crappy ones?  Why can't I have Wizzardy 8?

179  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: iPhone/iTouch app and game thread on: March 05, 2014, 09:40:03 PM
I think I will force myself to finish a few of what I have before I buy either one.  When thinking about them I googled best RPGs on the ios and I kept seeing games I had already bought but never finished (ie Bastion, Bard's Tale, Oceanhorn, Sword and Sworcery, Shadowrun...)  I buy a lot when the itch hits but then never finish.

Everyone has talked about the story in Avadon.  Perhaps I should give it a try.
183  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: iPhone/iTouch app and game thread on: March 04, 2014, 08:28:18 PM
On another note has anyone tried Avadon 2: The Corruption or Shadow Sun?  I am itching for an RPG and I have both these on my watch list.  Avadon just came out but I assume it is as good as other Spiderweb Software games.  However Shadow Sun looks better.

184  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: iPhone/iTouch app and game thread on: March 04, 2014, 08:12:59 PM
Yeah I guess a bit.  Perhaps I have never lived long enough to really notice much.   icon_confused

I tried a no stopping unless I needed something run.  I got to 16 star systems which is a record for me but I still died eventually, just a random you died scenario.  While I lasted longer in terms of numbers of systems it felt a bit less fun because I wasn't exploring to find neat stuff.  I was just stopping for gas and moving on.  In some ways that fits the story better I guess but it doesn't suit my style.

185  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: iPhone/iTouch app and game thread on: March 04, 2014, 07:48:20 PM
Maybe I am missing something.  A couple of reviews I have read say things like "Every decision in Out There demands a careful risk/reward calculation."  I never feel that.  Usually I have one or two possible star systems I can go to.  That isn't much of a careful calculation.  Most of the time the choice appears to be quit or go to the next star system.  How is that a choice?

Anyway lots of reviews say it is great so I must not be getting something.

Out There mini review. (Heck this is just a conclusion - watch Youtube for a real review.)

After a dozen or so games I think I am done.  The game is great in many ways but it is lacking that "just one more try" feeling because I don't think there is a snowballs chance in hell of my getting home.  Some games ended very quickly - like first planet - when the interplanetary drive broke so I couldn't go planets.  Makes for a short game.  Some games lasted a bit longer with a few fun by the seat of my pants situations.  Finding just enough Iron to fix a necessary part etc.  But no game lasted more than 10 or so systems.   Something always breaks, some catastrophe always happens.

Catastrophes are what the game is about.  I have played these kinds of games before, but OT seems to miss the balance.  There are two ways to go I think

1. no chance of success but fast gameplay and loading screens so you can keep trying, and a way to measure your score against your last one.  Kind of an endless runner thing.   OT doesn't do that very well.

2. a small chance of success if you take few risks and make good choices.  OT fails this mostly because there are no choices to make.  It is all random.  I can't pick a better star system to go to because (as far as I can tell) they are all about equal.  You don't get enough different minerals to really make interesting choices on what to build.  99% of the time I can build one item in a game if I am lucky.

All in all it feels like they wanted an endless runner type where you would fail all the time but get better each time (or try to)  but they missed that quick jump into a game feeling.

Overall I would give this game a "B"  It is pretty and fun at first but I won't be going back again and again like I did with Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space.

188  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: iPhone/iTouch app and game thread on: March 03, 2014, 03:09:19 PM
It has a lot of reading so I wasn't sure you would like it. smile

It is quite fun.  If you ever played strange worlds in infinite space you know exactly what your game play will be like.  They added a bit of stuff - like drilling, and ... well really that is all I can think of.  You pick a star system, fly to it, go to the different planets and drill to find resources for fuel, oxygen, and building materials.  Then go on to the next planet, rinse repeat.  Sometimes you meet an alien and can get stuff from them, sometimes you find some artifact, etc.

Random created universe on each play so you just go until you run out of resources, or get killed by something.

I am finding it fun but it is very light on story.

I took a look at the list of 30 anticipated PS4 games for 2014 over at IGN, to gauge at what point I'd probably want to buy a PS4.

Of the 30, I think only 3 or 4 were exclusives. Of those 3 or 4, I was only interested in 1.

So at this point, I really can't justify dropping the money. Sure, it would be nice to play cross-platform titles with slightly better specs, but certainly not $400 nice.

I think this will certainly change over time as the library fills out and new features roll in, but for now I'm still in a holding pattern and anticipate probably being that way for a year or more.

+1

That and I have my backlog of PS3 games to finish anyway so it isn't like I am in a drought!

It reminds me of "The Watchmen" in that fans of the comics will like it but it makes little to no sense to someone who doesn't know about the comic.  That is fine except it isn't going to do well at the box office.
