I got these all from this article on Gizmodo if you want to see some of the ones I didn't link to.

1. http://flowingdata.com/2013/06/13/sniffing-out-paul-revere-with-basic-social-network-analysis/

It's just metadata. What can you do with that? Kieran Healy, a sociology professor at Duke University, shows what you can do, with just some basic social network analysis. Using metadata from Paul Revere's Ride on the groups that people belonged to, Healy sniffs out Paul Revere as a main target.

2. http://flowingdata.com/2013/04/16/wealth-distribution-in-america/

This video clearly describes the distribution of wealth in America using a set of transitioning charts. The graphics are good. The explanation is better.

3.  http://flowingdata.com/2013/05/13/geography-of-hate-against-gays-races-and-the-disabled/

In a follow-up to their map of racist tweets towards Barack Obama, the folks at Floating Sheep took a more rigorous route to get around the challenges of sentiment analysis. Over 150,000 geotagged tweets against races, sexuality, and disabled were manually classified and mapped.

4. A bit more lighthearted  - http://flowingdata.com/2013/10/14/pizza-place-geography/

This is the point of the map above, which shows the nearest pizza place within a 10-mile radius across the United States. Nice and clean data courtesy of AggData.

Typical, virus takes out human population, war between humans... Apes take over...

That was remarkable only because it was so dull.  I think "teaser" trailers should be banned.

New International Trailer

Got to say it left me very unimpressed.  The attempts at humor with the chimny and Stacey saying "Peter!" just didn't feel funny and overall it just appeared a bit of a mess to me.  Perhaps it will be great but this trailer especially didn't excite me.

X-wing v TIE and/or Wing Commander.  There has been a real lack of space flight sims for too long.   I've been looking for Populous lately.. I'd want that, preferably on my pad.

I was just thinking we could use an Independence War remake so X-wing would be fine.  Somehow it seems like space flight sims just dried up.  I know the iPad would be a challenge for controls but I don't see people buying flight sticks anymore (if they even make them) so I think the big hurdle will be controls.

Leaked Documents Reveal That Fallout 4 Is Real, Set In Boston

Quote
Still upset about that massive Fallout 4 hoax? Here's some good news for you: The next entry in Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG series is real, it's in development right now, and, as rumored, it appears to be set in Boston, according to casting documents obtained by Kotaku.

Two weeks ago, a Kotaku reader sent me several documents from a casting call for a project code-named Institute. The casting documents, which I've been able to confirm are real, include scripts, character descriptions, and other details about the next Fallout, and although the word Fallout does not appear in these scripts, there are several references to Fallout's setting and locations. (The casting director for this project also worked on other Bethesda games, like Dishonored and Skyrim.)

This is the first confirmation we've received that the next Fallout game is in the works—although it's been generally assumed that Bethesda Game Studios, the development studio behind Fallout 3, has been working on a new Fallout since completing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim back in 2011, Bethesda has yet to announce the new game in any form. In 2012, rumors circulated that Bethesda employees were scouting the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston for an upcoming Fallout game, but other than that, news has been thin.

Yet the next Fallout remains one of the world's most anticipated games, and a few weeks ago, when an apparent teaser website called TheSurvivor2299 popped up on Reddit, people went crazy. The site, which was crafted as if it were an alternate reality game, hinted at a Fallout 4 announcement through a trickle of hidden messages and plot details, revealed through morse code and other cyphers. The sheer level of detail made the website seem real to some observers, but Bethesda wouldn't comment one way or another.

Looks good.  Reminds me of Oblivion in that we know there is a secret that will be revealed at some point in the movie but that isn't a ding against it.

Article about graphical comparisons between the various versions of AC4

Is has some text and videos of all the different versions - showing the same thing.  I hate it when they show a sea battle from the PS4, but walking in town from the 360, and a fight from the Wii U.  These videos seem to be done right - ie the same thing on different systems.

If they did 12 I'd be all over that one. I remember liking it but also being burnt out on all the Japanese RPGs by then so only got a few hours in before putting it aside. Think I could manage another JRPG after this several year hiatus.

There are rumors that Square Enix will unveil a Final Fantasy remake for the Wii U at E3, and I think FFXII is a strong possibility.

oooo... I'd buy that.

+1 day one.

Got to say I am kind of meh.  It looks fine but it looks like they just followed the sequel playbook a bit too close - bigger everything.  More villains, more explosions, more destruction, etc.  It doesn't look inspired or like it takes any risks.

And what is up with Harry's hair?  Could they have made a more stereotypical "bad guy" look?

Volvo Plans To Have Self-Driving Cars In Swedish Capital Gothenburg By 2017

Quote
"Volvo is starting a pilot project that aims to have 100 self-driving cars on Swedish public roads around the city of Gothenburg by 2017. The project is called 'Drive Me' and is a joint initiative between the Volvo Car Group, the Swedish Transport Administration, the Swedish Transport Agency, Lindholmen Science Park and the City of Gothenburg, Volvo said Monday. Together they will make an effort to eliminate deadly car crashes in Sweden, said Erik Coelingh, technical specialist at Volvo Car Group. In the next few years, Volvo will develop its Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) in its XC90 model. The goal is to have the first self-driving cars available to 100 consumers by 2017, Coelingh said. They will be able let their cars navigate about 50 typical commuter arteries that include motorway conditions and frequent traffic jams in and around Gothenburg, the country's second largest city."

Between these two things I think I may have a self driving car in my lifetime!  Yeah! More time for gaming.

It is doing pretty terrible at Rottentomatoes as well as not making any money.

Suitably grim and bloody yet disappointingly safe and shallow, Spike Lee's Oldboy remake neither surpasses the original nor adds anything new to its impressive legacy.

Not exactly a rousing recommendation.

But if you held a gun to my head and said I had to pick a system today, I'd probably point toward the Xbox One—primarily for its game lineup and partly for its interface and the still-in-their-infancy media features. (Also, I'm not currently budget-conscious enough to mind the price difference too much.) Once you calmed down and lowered the gun, though, I'd tell you to wait and see.
