Trailer is out!

Eh, looks fine but certainly didn't blow me away.

I do wonder why they needed to 1. feed the dinosaur a endangered shark.  Couldn't anything fish do?  2. why did they need to create a new dinosaur?  Perhaps the story will explain but it just seems contrived.

125  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PS4, Xbox 1] Dark Souls 2 coming in 2015 on: November 25, 2014, 02:03:08 PM

Dark Souls 2 is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next year in an enhanced version of the game called Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, Namco Bandai and From Software announced today. The re-release of Dark Souls 2 will come with the game's three downloadable add-ons and new enhancements.

Good news for me since I never played the games on the previous generation.

Nothing here.

And really even if someone told me I had to buy something I would be hard pressed to pick something.

127  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What's your biggest gaming disappointment/sleeper hit of 2014? on: November 21, 2014, 06:23:41 PM
I was rather shocked by how bland Destiny turned out to be.  I knew it wasn't a full SP game but I expected something better than just re-running the same patrol missions in the hope of getting better loot, just to get better loot so I can re-run the same patrol missions to get better loot, etc.

It sure it pretty though.

I haven't gotten very far into Dragon Age: Inquisition so I will have to pick InFamous: Second Son.  It is actually one of the only games I finished.

I can't decide on which class to play.  Rolled a two-handed warrior last night but didn't really like the way he looked or played.  I plan on doing some research before I pick it back up for real this weekend.  I may end up going Rogue for once, or possibly another Mage.

I am torn about this too.  I picked a sword and shield warrior but the animations for the rogue and mage look cooler.

I am trying to comfort myself with the idea that I can control a mage and rogue during the fights if I want but I am thinking if I have to put in 80 hours I want it to be the best it can be.

The food would be the biggest concern.   Kim Chi smells vile and I think you have to cook it in house in order to activate the VPN connection.

I have an Air and a Mini and I use one or the other everyday.

My work is dull, dull, dull so I spend about 7 hours playing Word with Friends.

I actually game more on it than my PC because I haven't updated my PC in years.  Right now I am playing Tactics Maiden, Braveland, X-Com and The Room 2 actively ,  Love'em all.

Now I am just trying to decide what to be.  Usually I am a knight type but magic looks so cool....

I guess since I can control anyone during a fight it doesn't matter all that much but I want it to be me!
138  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4/XB1/PC] Assassin's Creed Unity on: November 11, 2014, 05:13:06 PM
Kotaku says No to buying it

That isn't the game Ubisoft made. They made what amounts to a showpiece for a new graphics engine, a game that will initially turn heads but which quickly reveals itself to be frustrating, repetitive, and dull.

I've been happy with Assassin's Creed for a long time. Any series can have an off year, and hopefully Ubisoft will do better the next time around. But this year, for the first time ever, I'm telling you to skip the year's biggest Assassin's Creed.

I am not worried exactly but since I am getting on the PS4 I am concerned....  paranoid

Great video comparison by the way.  I had not seen one on any of the other review sites and I think it is important with big name releases.

140  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/360/XB1/Ps3/Ps4] Dragon Age: Inquisition on: November 11, 2014, 03:54:16 PM
As a PS4 player I was a bit disappointed.

Less happily, the version of Inquisition that I played had a whole bunch of bugs, from small visual tics to game-halting glitches and crashes. A lot of those will likely be addressed in a couple of coming pre-release patches, but they're still worth mentioning here.

The PS4 version that I played had some sort of incompatibility with Sony's PS4 v2.00 software that caused the game to regularly hard-lock my entire console, forcing me (terrifyingly) to repeatedly unplug my PS4 in order to get it working. Worse, sometimes those resets would cause my saved games to become corrupted, forcing me to constantly maintain multiple saves in fear of losing progress. Don't worry, though: that particular issue should be addressed before the game is actually out—Sony says that they're issuing a small system update this week that should make the freezing issue go away entirely. Over the weekend, I tried a loaner PS4 with the updated system software and the freezing issue didn't repeat. So, everyone reading this should be fine. All the same, it was unnerving to encounter a bug that severe in a retail build of a game.

Most of my time with Dragon Age: Inquisition was spent on the PlayStation 4 version. Despite my high praise for the game's content, I encountered some frustrating bugs that are hard to ignore.

Notably, the PS4 version of Inquisition frequently froze, locking up the entire system and requiring a full reboot. In a few instances, this reboot process led to corrupted save files. According to representatives from EA, this issue is related to Sony's PlayStation Network 2.0 firmware, which has caused problems for other games on the console as well.

Near the end of the review process, Sony sent Polygon a PlayStation 4 that had an upcoming patch pre-installed ostensibly fixing the 2.0 problems. We played approximately 15 hours on this patched PlayStation 4 and did not experience any crashes. EA says this new PSN patch will be released prior to Dragon Age: Inquisition's release date.

They both say the problems should be fixed by release day but still it is worrying.  It is a huge game with lots of choices I hope that some bug doesn't crop up if choices are made which the devlopers never imagined.

Nah that never happens!

141  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Ps4] inFAMOUS: Second Son on: November 10, 2014, 02:00:32 PM
According to several sites Infamous: First Light will one of the free games on PSN in January.  Not that people shouldn't buy it if they enjoyed Second Son but it is something to look forward to.

Stream your favorite music services like Spotify, iTunes, and Pandora from your phone or tablet.

Which seems kind of like a pain and defeating the point.

Rather nice because the commentators appear nice and while they don't show any great battles they talk a lot about the mechanics of the game

So you think this sounds useful? Especially for that price point? I am really curious about who would want this and why. What does it offer that you think you might use daily, while not annoying everyone else you live with? I use Siri when I am driving because it is handy. I will use "Hey Siri" when my phone is plugged in occasionally, but I don't really have a regular use for it. Siri has never made me think that I would want a device that just does this.

Even if the music part was nice, it better have great sound, which for that price and a single speaker, it doesn't appear to. How is it in any way better than a Sonos for playing cloud music?

From an investing point of view this seems completely nuts. Amazon drains money like a sieve year after year. They put out the phone, showing they have no idea what they are doing or what their customers want, so of course the phone bombs. Now this thing? Is there a demand for this thing? What does it solve for the buyer? Did the Xbox One Kinect do so well that it convinced them  they needed to attempt to do the same thing for their own content?

Right now I have a little bluetooth speaker for when I want to stream music and I have to bring my phone from its normal place into the room where I want to listen to music.

I also have a radio next to it so I can get local stations.

It seems like this device does both those things, is always on and always ready for me to fire it up.

The Sonos device seems to be $199 so the Echo (for me as a prime member) is a bit cheaper.

Also unless I leave my phone on all the time - not sleeping I can't just say "Ok google" and get it to do stuff.

So I guess I think it doesn't solve any issues but it does wrap up several solutions in one convenient spot.

I don't see any point in buying one right now, but if I were interested, I would have to worry about how well it works in my home given that my wife's name is Alexis...

It is great for you!

"Alexis, shut the hell up!"

"Oh not you honey I was talking to the device..."
