I've never understood the need to monitor your caloric intake to this degree or to know exactly how many steps you've taken in a day.  Does this information somehow make you lose weight?  Don't most people who are trying to keep fit have a general idea of whether or not they've consumed too many calories or not exercised enough?
However back to the Vessyl.  This seems like a pretty big waste to me.  Most of this information is already on my fitbit page (not to mention the side of the damn can).  They have a huge database of food you can look up already and it auto inputs everything for you.  I drink a can of soda, I just add it on the page and all the nutrition info is already there.  It is definitely NOT worth $200 to me to have a cup save me that 5 minutes of time.

It's $100 now smile

And re: measuring, I present Soylent.

I think Lee already said it , but yes this information helps.  At least it did for me.  I was eating better and starting to exercise some, but what I was doing wasn't enough.  When I got the fitbit and really started tracking things you start to realize that little extra things that you eat or do during the day make a difference and add up.  Plus keeping it on is a motivation factor to make better choices throughout the day.  I imagine once those things really become routine I may not need it as much anymore, but until they do it's helping me.

I love Yogurt too.  I like tart flavored with fruit, Blue Berries or blackberries are my favorite.  I love granola with it too, and feel if you use low fat yogurt and granola for breakfast that is perfectly healthy.

Regarding heartburn ATB, I used to struggle with that too, but a few weeks ago tried the off brand Prilosec and couldn't be happier.  I've had no heartburn, eaten no tums and find it to work wonderfully.  I'm going to talk with my doctor to make sure it's okay to keep taking it.  It was like 7.99 at Walmart.

I'll be curious to hear what your doctor says about Prilosec.   Mine told me it was ok to use short term, but take it too long and it runs the risk of damaging your kidneys.

Network engineer here.  Also VOIP. Switched back to routing / switching about a year ago though as I got tired of cisco VOIP turning into nothing but long ass upgrades.

Trying to switch gears and get into coding as I've always had a bit of a passion for that.
6  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Acid motherf****ing reflux! on: July 21, 2014, 04:37:48 AM
Also the scope procedure is not bad, they knock you out for it so you don't feel or notice a thing.  Your throat might be slightly sore for a bit after though.
7  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Acid motherf****ing reflux! on: July 21, 2014, 04:36:36 AM
If it's that bad I really recommend seeing a doctor.  I had it pretty bad and they ended up sending a scope down my throat and into my stomach.  I actually had some sort of infection making it bad.  They also discovered that I had the entrance to my stomach is herniated causing it to flare up.  After the antibiotics for the infection I haven't had it that bad in a long time.  I get occasional flare ups still.  They prescribed prilosec for those, although those aren't good to take long term.

Caffeine is a big one that can cause flare ups.  I notice coffee and teas aren't so bad, but if I drink a soda it comes back.  Also fried foods , and for me, sugary stuff tends to flare it up.

As much as I LOVED Robotech as a child and still do, harmony gold can suck it.  I will give them no monies.  They are effectively cock blocking all new Macross series from entering the US.  Look up Macross Year 0.  Awesome show, we don't get it here.  Also there was a kick ass looking PS3 Macross game released last year celebrating the 30th anniversary.  We don't get it.  Want any toys? Nope, they send cease and desist letters to places carrying stuff.

Their latest release Shadow Chronicles pretty much blew. And the final nail in the coffin for me is that they are asking for $500,000 to do only a pilot?  That seems like a lot to just do 1 show.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: E3 2014 on: June 10, 2014, 05:47:51 AM
I gotta say Microsoft is making it a lot easier than sony on seeing everything they had to offer in the press conferences today.  I got home fired up my xbone and all the trailers plus the e3 presentation were right there to the right of the home screen.  I watched and enjoyed many of them.

I fired up the PS4 and checked the whats hot area, nothing.  I fire up the store and figure out that i need to download an E3 app.  Download the App and look for trailers.  I see something called trailers but I can't launch it.  The only thing I can launch is the e3 presentation.  Launching that launches the web browser and shows the presentation mid stream (even thought it's already over, I guess they are re-running the stream and I just have to get lucky and catch it from the beginning at some point?).  I go to my computer and watch trailers on youtube instead.

Winner for ease of accessing the E3 info: Microsoft...

I think overall there were more things on the microsoft presentation I was interested in.  But I don't think many were exclusives.

10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Coffee at home on: April 11, 2014, 06:07:06 PM
We recently went the french press route after having a coffee maker and then a Keurig.  The press makes the best coffee I've made at home hands down.  Even if I use pre-ground coffee it turns out better than anything I made in a regular pot and the keurig stuff.

DAMNIT.    I went and preordered at my local Gamestop.   Little did I know that the stupid early access code they gave out with boxed preorders is for 3 days early access and not the 5 days for digital.    mad

I didn't know this until I entered my early access code via my account.   Can I cancel my preorder and instead preorder digitally and enter the new 5 day early access code on the same account?

I thought originally the Imperial Edition got 5 days early access and the Standards got 3 days.  I went to the website and they changed it , now both give 5 days.  Most other sites (amazon) are still listing it as a 3 vs 5 depending on the version.  I wonder if they've just decided to open 5 days early for everyone and that hasn't filtered out to the other sites? Or maybe it's just incentive to pre-order directly through ESO.
12  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Film] Fantastic Four Reboot on: March 04, 2014, 12:56:59 AM
It's a freaking convoluted mess lol.   This article from Dec seems to explain it:
http://www.dailyfinance.com/2013/12/25/marvel-movie-rights-and-why-we-cant-have-nice-thin/

Daredevil and a few others(ghost rider) recently went back to marvel.  I know a year or so ago they were in talks to try and keep daredevil and in exchange give fantastic four back, but that apparently didn't happen.

In any event I think even the side studios are recognizing that if you treat the properties right and make a good movie you'll make some cash. The last X-Men was awesome.  I enjoyed the latest Wolverine and Spiderman as well.  Hopefully this one will be good too.
13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Need a restart. on: March 03, 2014, 11:26:06 PM
I actually have been feeling the same way.  Approaching 40 this year and feel like I need a change.  One thing I can recommend is reading The Nerdist Way by Chris Hardwick.  He's the guy that does the Talking Dead/ Talking Bad shows on AMC as well as the Nerdist podcasts.  Anyway his book really details out how to organize yourself and set goals.  Much along the line of what Wonderpug is recommending.  It's helped me feel like I'm getting some goals done and getting on track with making a career change (hopefully!).

It's actually the same studio that did the others.  If they don't make this movie the rights go back to Marvel ( or Disney now I guess...).   From what I read a while back they are working more closely with some Marvel writers so hopefully that'll bring the quality up.
15  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The LEGO Movie - the movie of Legos on: February 11, 2014, 04:34:10 PM
I think the reviews / hype skewed a bit over the top because most people thought this would be a crappy toy tie in movie.  It was much better than that.  It wasn't the greatest ( I too liked Frozen better).  It is pretty good fun though and well worth seeing.  My kids loved it, they are 12 and 10.

I've been watching since the first one and loving every minute of it.  Didn't even realize they were out of order. The chemistry between the two main characters is awesome and writing is as well.  It's a solid show I highly recommend watching it because I don't want it cancelled slywink

They've actually had demos for NBA , FIFA and Zoo Tycoon up for a while.  For some stupid reason they didn't show up in the store and you had to do a bing search for them.  Glad to see they are in the store now smile   Also looking forward to trying a demo for Dead Rising.  Would love to see one for Ryse as well.
21  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Elder Scrolls Online on: November 27, 2013, 12:31:31 AM
It's being made by a completely different team so it shouldn't affect the stand alone titles.  I agree with Gratch, I'll probably take what I can get with these.  I think I would've loved to have seen a borderlands approach to this.  A single player game that you could have 1-4 friends drop in and out of and play with you.

I do like how GW2 has handled the story stuff better though.  It's optional and you can do it on the side at your own leisure.  The main world seems better designed with having hundreds of people running around.  That's sort of ruined me now for other MMO's.

22  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Elder Scrolls Online on: November 26, 2013, 03:22:22 AM
I wish the trend of trying to tell personal stories in MMO's would end.  If I wanted that I'd play a single player game.  I wish instead that they would focus on more compelling reasons to have 1000's of players playing together in one space.  Guild Wars 2 has been the most forward thinking about this imho.

I did enjoy my time in this one, but also kept feeling like I would've been better off just firing up Skyrim and having the world to myself.  Give me a fun reason to play with all these other players.
23  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Elder Scrolls Online on: November 24, 2013, 08:19:11 PM
I agree with Fez's edit above.  Once you get off "noob" island and into the proper world, it really starts to feel more like a proper Elder Scrolls game.  Your given some direction, but mostly left to wander on your own and find stuff.  And there is stuff everywhere.
24  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Elder Scrolls Online on: November 23, 2013, 05:27:32 PM
I've come to realize that I'm really kind of tired of the constant handholding these games like to do.  There's a quest I found to go find a buried item. The quest text is full of wonderful flavor text that gives you clues on how to track it down. Just when I think that this might be interesting and fun trying to follow the clues to find this item, I look over and there's a GIANT arrow pointing directly at it.  I'd like to explore and work for things a little bit but I guess the MMO trend is to show you where everything is these days.
25  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How has your life changed since the last "next gen"? on: November 21, 2013, 04:53:21 PM
I really like this topic idea smile

My pre-ordered 360 ended up being available on Xmas Eve.  That was seriously awesome timing.  My son was 3 going on 4.  And we had a 1 year old daughter.  I remember he had a blast watching me play Kameo.  It was a pretty awesome time because he was just getting old enough to be excited by the idea of me getting a new console.

Fast forward to today.  The kids are quite a bit older, my son is 11 going on 12, daughter is 9 going on 10.  My son, while excited about the idea of a new console , has his own computer now.  That's where he games with his friends.  I'm in a similar situation.  So while gaming is my hobby and I'm super excited about these consoles.  I'm holding off for a while because we really have enough stuff to play at the moment.

What is really interesting to me is that we spent enough time in this current generation for me to have toddlers at the beginning of it who are almost teenagers at the end of it.

For the record I was 31 when they came out, now I'm turning 40 next year.
26  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Gravity on: October 06, 2013, 04:02:20 AM
There's a surprisingly good amount of substance to it that goes along with the visuals.  I think the major achievement of it is that you feel like you are in the movie, not just watching it.  The way he directed it, the way the camera moves, the 3d, all of it are done so well you feel like you are floating in space next to the characters going through the experience with them.

Also agree that this is a major theater movie, even IMAX 3d.   I'm not sure it would work as well on the small screen.

Wife and I got a good chance to play today.  We really like it so far, but our main complaint is it forces you to ungroup and solo every single story / class mission.  That was one of the things we actually liked about Star Wars, we could help each other out with our class storylines and actually see the cutscenes for each others stories.
32  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How are you feeling about your pre-orders now? on: August 25, 2013, 08:48:39 PM

I agree with this.  I play too and while I'm playing I enjoy it.  But when I'm logged out nothing really compels me to want to log back in.  I think it's mostly due to what Razgon just pointed out.

My kids are loving it as well.  Our only complaint so far is that 2 player requires 2 characters from the same world. So for instance the monsters Inc world only lets you play with monsters inc characters.  Luckily we bought some extra incredibles figures so they could at least play 2 player there.  Wish you could mix aand match characters across the worlds though.
