1601  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone else having problems with Gone Gold? (Pt. 2) on: October 10, 2004, 01:25:38 AM
Hell I've been on here almost since the redesign and it still took me two days to think to come and check for news about GG here.  Oh well...I'm sure someone will let us know eventually...even if it is just a good bye and thanks for all of the fish message.
1602  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xenosaga episode 1: Der Wille Sur Macht on: September 15, 2004, 12:31:23 PM
I've bought it myself but it's been on my "get to it soon" shelf for months.  If I didn't have a backlog of 15+ games and a job and a family  biggrin

Of course I've read the second episode has major graphical changes with it going to more realistic character models and the normal graphical upgrades.
1603  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Gone Gold having server problems again? on: September 15, 2004, 12:25:24 PM
I usually hit the site in the early morning.  You would think that with a couple thousand members and the constant complaining that someone would get on the ball and fix the damn problems.
1604  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / New Pokemon GBA games for $20 at Best Buy this week on: September 15, 2004, 12:23:37 PM
I doubt they would be compatible...the DS has built in 802.11 wireless while the GBA wireless is designed for games like Pokemon and Mario Golf.  Of course the DS is $200 and doesn't play non GBA games so they both have tradeoffs smile
1605  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / New Pokemon GBA games for $20 at Best Buy this week on: September 13, 2004, 09:50:07 PM
The two new Pokemon games (Leaf Green and Fire Red) are on sale this week at Best Buy for $24.99. Get one of the gamer's cards they have throughout the store, pop down the price of the game (around $21 or any amount you want starting around $1) and then use the card and $5 off $20 coupon that's with it for a total pre tax price of $19.99.

Even if you hate the Pokemon games it's still a good deal because they include the GBA wireless adapter which is sold seperately for $20. So you could always get it, trade the game and keep the adapter if you were going to get one anyway.
1606  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Trade 2 and get any preowned game for 9.99 - Gamerush stores on: July 26, 2004, 10:38:32 PM
This has worked out really well for me so far.  I've managed to get

Chronicles of Riddick
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Baldurs Gate II
Fatal Frame II
Spiderman 2
Luigi's Mansion

All for a grand total of around $55.  And I got rid of a bunch of games that were worth almost nothing that nobody wanted in trade including ancient sports titles.  Still looking for Crimson Skies and Ninja Gaiden.
1607  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Trade 2 and get any preowned game for 9.99 - Gamerush stores on: July 19, 2004, 08:49:51 PM
There is a trade in deal at Gamerush stores (certain Blockbuster videos).  The trade deal is trade in any 2 (PS1, PS2, XBox, GC or GB/GBA) games and get any preowned game for 9.99. I took 4 cheapo games I got at Circuit City (4.99 each) and traded them at gamerush using the trade deal.   I got the credit for the games (total of $26) so I walked out with Spiderman 2 and Fatal Frame II and $4 in credit for $20 total purchase (not including tax). Fantastic I'm just waiting for them to get some more games I want Riddick and Sudeki.  I don't know how often they get games in but one of the clerks said they had over 100 games traded in last Monday.  Should be a good rotation of stock.

EDIT - trade in deal only good at Gamerush areas in certain Blockbuster stores. Check out for locations.

EDIT2 - You get credit for the games you trade in and you get to use the trade 2 deal at the same time.  Your credit, if it's enough, will apply towards the 9.99.

This is great for newer high dollar games like Spiderman 2, Riddick, Fatal Frame 2, Sudeki, etc.  Also since there are no exclusions you can trade old sports games and other near worthless games to get in on the deal (though you will get next to no credit for credit for them).
1608  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Want Disgaea, Harvest Moon, D&D Heroes, BG2 Xbox, expans on: July 12, 2004, 03:59:41 PM
Ok I'm looking for the following games:

Disgaea PS2
Harvest Moon GC
Zoo Tycoon Marine Mania expansion
Baldur's Gate 2 XBox

Harvest Moon PS2
D&D Heroes XBox
WC3 Frozen Throne expansion PC
NWN 2nd expansion PC
Final Fantasy X PS2

I'm also looking for an instruction manual and box for Tactics Ogre for the GBA. Don't need the game. I'm also looking for strategy guides for Disgaea and Tactics Ogre for the GBA.

Plenty to trade including DVDs. May consider buying if it's a good price...will reimburse with extras if you have an extra copy of Disgaea or Tactics Ogre from CC sale this past weekend. My ELOG listing is the very bottom of page 2.

I also have the XBox live sealed 1 year kit, Railroad Tycoon 3 NEW, Beyond Divinity and some other newer games in addition to the ELOG.
1609  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Target: La Pucelle Tactics for $19.99 YMMV on: July 12, 2004, 03:58:38 PM
The ones in Charlotte, NC and Rock Hill, SC appear to have the markdown.  From the other forums I would say most of the Targets have it at this price but it's sold out in most places.
1610  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Circuit City 5 hour sale 7/12 only game accessories 25% off on: July 12, 2004, 03:57:20 PM
The 5 hour sale today includes most of the game controllers and most of the memory cards.

Some examples:

Microsoft S Controller - $22.49
Logitech Wireless XBox Controller - $27.49 after $10 rebate
Sony PS2 Controller - $18ish
GC Wavebird - $26ish

Sale ends 4pm EST
1611  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Titanium Breast Implants?! on: June 23, 2004, 02:07:24 PM
There are other uses to this...including breast replacement from cancer or correcting one breast which is radically out of proportion to the other.  To each their own.
1612  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Xbox] Fable coming soon, quotes from preview on: June 01, 2004, 05:29:40 PM
These are quotes from a gamespot preview available on

The bad:
While Fable's gameplay was originally slated to be a very open-ended experience that had your character aging and developing based on your progress and play style, respectively, the game has since headed in a more-structured direction. Fable uses an action-role-playing game approach in which your character will gain experience levels by accruing experience points. The game will have four main kinds of experience: general, strength, skill, and will. Performing specific tasks will earn you various amounts of general experience, as well as a certain amount of specific experience in either strength, skill, or will.

The good:
While character development may not have wound up offering quite as many options as it set out to, the actual gameplay certainly has. One of the major components of the game that was originally announced was that you were going to be able to be as good or as evil as you wanted. Unlike most RPGs, which tend to firmly lock you in the roles of virtuous, milk-drinking heroes who save kittens and damsels in distress, Fable gives you the option to instead be a vice-laden, liquor-chugging cad who kills small animals and terrorizes the locals.

I don't know quite what to make of them.  It seems like they removed most of what was truly interesting and revolutionary and made it another pretty RPG.  Current release date is 9/13/04 so at least it's close
1613  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Game Boy Advance-Worth it? on: May 27, 2004, 02:04:16 AM
Count me in the love the GBA SP camp.  I keep mine in the car and it's great to pass the time anytime and anywhere (except where I would look like a total geek playing...then I play games on my cell phone instead smile).  I've put probably 100 hours or more in and there are so many games available for it it's almost unreal.
1614  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo DS question on: May 27, 2004, 01:58:30 AM
I noticed the DS has 802.11 wireless but doesn't anyone know if it will have bluetooth?  I don't see it mentioned in the specs but I remember an article a few weeks back discussing it.  I just can't find the article.

And: Is the 802.11 b or g?
1615  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Previews ruining your dinner? on: May 27, 2004, 01:55:25 AM
I avoid game previews like the plague...hate having something that happens ten hours into it told to me before I ever get the game.  I love movie previews though...except the ones that show scenes from the ending...I mean come on.
1616  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Contests on: May 27, 2004, 01:53:49 AM
Do you reply to everyone who enters the current contest?  I'd hate to enter only to find out my email was never received and I was never in the running.  Does it matter if I send the email through hotmail and my normal home email address (only reason I'm asking is that someone complained they didn't receive my roadrunner email I sent a few days ago).  Maybe you could setup an automated response on the contest email alias saying "entry received, thank you" or something like that.
1617  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What do you do when... on: May 27, 2004, 01:50:09 AM
I have a large stack of green XBox OEM cases if anyone is interested.  I would ship them at cost plus a couple dollars or maybe trade for an old game, something like that.  I have at least 20...some with the sports holograms on them if that matters.  These were all pulls from purchased games not aftermarket.  Just email me.
1618  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / My list of stuff..UPDATED and with prices!! on: May 26, 2004, 10:49:06 PM
YGM if you still have any available.

EDIT: Well you were going to have mail but it's not listed anywhere I can find and the PM feature is disabled.  So email me if you're still interested...I have a number of the PS1 RPG games you're looking for.
1619  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just got my first issue of XBN and color me impressed on: May 26, 2004, 10:47:15 PM
I've been a subscriber for around a year and love it.  As for going has been slowly.  The first few issues were beyond excellent with long text reviews, well written commentary and few ads.  It's still heads above the rest of them though.
1620  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Where will/did you pre-order Halo2? on: May 26, 2004, 10:36:09 PM
I would only pre-order the Collector's edition...and I haven't yet.  I'm waiting until it gets closer and a release date is much firmer.
1621  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best pictures of the PSP and Nintendo DS on: May 13, 2004, 05:09:02 PM
I really enjoyed the original concept pictures of the PSP when it had a clamshell design or even a cover that flipped over.  I do plan on getting one but if I buy one at launch it will be to sell on ebay for massive profit
1622  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The State of Breasts in Gaming on: May 13, 2004, 05:06:19 PM
I can say I've never bought a game just because of adult humor is different (Leisure Suit Larry comes to mind).  I avoided the DOA Volleyball, etc, etc when they came out and it's really not a selling point to me.  I also hate the advertising...I want smart articles and in-depth reviews not another screenshot of a breast.  Of course I'm not 12 anymore smile

1627  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / EA to add Xbox live connectivity to 15 games on: May 11, 2004, 11:55:14 AM
Here is the link on

Some of them include:

    * Madden NFL 2005
    * Fifa Football 2005
    * NBA Live 2005
    * Battlefield: Modern Combat
    * TimeSplitters 3
    * Burnout 3

As mentioned in the general console thread...pigs are flying and hell has frozen over.
1628  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Is Morrowind worth buying an Xbox for? on: May 11, 2004, 11:52:40 AM
I would not get one just for Morrowind but it is a decent choice at the price it's at now.  And a lot of the older games have reduced prices as well.  Now Fable just might be worth getting an Xbox if it's half as good as they keep saying.
1629  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Ea = 15 games on Live this year. on: May 11, 2004, 11:50:35 AM
Damn it sure is cold around here...almost like hell froze over.
1630  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Forum Titles on: May 07, 2004, 02:56:15 PM
There has to be something between 100-3000.  And why should the custom tag be set at 3000 anyway...this isn't GG with a broad selection of PC hardware, PC software, console and EBG to spread posts out.  I have a feeling it would take a lot longer to hit 3000 here than over there.

I also like fanatic...maybe also deity, servant (instead of newbie or maybe just for the mods smile) or console geek.
1631  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Does Rob Smith's New Role as EIC Ruin XBOX Magazine ? on: May 07, 2004, 02:52:26 PM
That is the main reason I read XBN (Xbox Nation) though they have gone a little downhill lately too.  They used to have long intelligent multipage reviews, excellent interviews and the mag used to have more words than pictures.  I only read OXM now because I got the free sub to it and for the pretty screenshots...not a lot of content in it anymore.
1632  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Meijer - 25% off all videogame accessories on: May 07, 2004, 12:37:23 PM

1633  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / $10 off $75+ at on: May 07, 2004, 12:33:13 PM

Direct link to add the coupon to your cart.  Should be non referral and was tested this morning.  Not bad to save a little on a system purchase like a GBA or a handful of newer games.  This is good for all and returning.

Direct link to add $10 off $150 for new customers only here:  Not sure why you would use this one unless they expire the above one early.

Link for $5 off $50 in the media/games stores:
1634  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / what will sell the Xbox2? on: May 07, 2004, 03:03:41 AM
I have a feeling that built in wireless will be standard on all of the next gen consoles...since MS already has a wireless b/g adapter out it wouldn't be that hard to add it to the XBox 2.  I would love to have the ability to share files with my computers on my network too...and I think it's a good chance as well with Microsoft pushing their multimedia center so hard.  I can even see the XBox 2 running a version of XP media center like the Dreamcast had with Windows CE.
1635  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / EricB for president! on: May 07, 2004, 02:58:44 AM
I'll try to keep them coming.  I used to run a deal based website a couple years ago (about the time the big ones started and anandtech was really taking off) so I still have tons of links to everywhere under the sun for deals.  I'm also in charge of finding the best prices at my company so I'm looking anyway  Cool

Just wanted to put in that you guys are doing an awesome job fixing things and figuring out what's best to do for everybody.

The quick responses so far have been pretty impressive.

Good stuff guys. Seriously.

I would like to second this as well.  I guess I'm so used to anything taking weeks to fix or do at the GG forums that the multiple daily changes here still surprise me.
1637  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Forum Titles on: May 06, 2004, 08:39:09 PM
Not if I get there first

I can't think of many titles now...hmmmm how about:

Old School Master
Console Gold Regular
uh...console gold veteran, console gold all star

Ok, I'm out of ideas right now...been a very long day so far.
1638  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Devil May Cry 3!!! on: May 06, 2004, 08:35:15 PM
As the current lead post padder I would like to throw in my $.02 as well.  I actually lucked out and managed to return the suck that was the Matrix.  BTW, Target has the PC version on clearance for like $10 if anyone wants to find out how bad it truly was.  I have to agree that if DMC2 didn't have the name it would have been a low C adventure that faded into nothingness long ago...but it disappointed so many people.

So flock off DMC2 and Matrix
1639  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Devil May Cry 3!!! on: May 06, 2004, 04:16:19 PM
Yep, PSM had the article...around 5 pages with the screenshots.  Some highlights from the articles:

Some levels have multiple bosses, some have none
Your character will be customized to a point by how you upgrade...sword master, gunslinger, etc
You will have the ability to assume demon form at some point
Newer engine, better AI, more story driven, more backstory
Possible love interest/playable female character

After reading this I actually have some interest in it again.  I'm still going to wait for a bunch of reviews but I can eventually convince myself this is the true sequel and that DMC2 never happened.
1640  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Backing up Xbox Data on: May 06, 2004, 04:11:17 PM
Yes, USB keys are cheap.  I actually bought a Dell 128MB USB key for under $40...very handy and it stays on my keychain all of the time.

The Lik-Sang site has the Mega X-Key for $35 US.  You can read a review of it here:
