I'm fairly lucky in that my wife plays a small section of games. She hates RPG games (my favorites) and adventure/story games but loves and plays games like Might and Magic, Diablo, Sacred, Age of Empires and a lot of various console games.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I want the Nintendo DS to fail
|
on: October 11, 2004, 05:09:48 PM
|
|
I don't care either way but it bothers me that it doesn't play the old GB/GBC games. I still have a lot of them and still play them when the urge hits. I'm also very happy with the size of the SP and the fact it looks like a adult PDA instead of a kid's gaming system (I had a flight attendent ask if I wanted a glass of milk when she saw me playing on the old GBA I had.) I would still by a DS though if I could get $100 for my SP...I can't so I doubt I'll get the DS.

+1 to stiffler (I totally forgot to post this, sorry about that).
Now that GG appears to be gone is there any chance of migrating our feedback over here (until the new trading site/section/database is running)? I do have the trader feedback page from Oct 2 archived thanks to google.
BTW, I'd be happy to volunteer to get the thread close to up to date (especially if we start migrating old GG feedback and the trading picks up).

I vote to stay here if GG is gone. If we start to splinter off into different forums then it will become a permanent break and the main gonegold community will cease to exist.
Everything that has happened seems to point to a bad end for GG. The account terminated, the mods know nothing, no emails from the big boss, hung up on from the phone number and no news after days of waiting. Even when it was bad it wasn't this bad.
Hell, someone could always grab the domain next year and establish the forums again when it expires next year...better some of us than a big site (gamespy, ign, etc) grabbing it for the name recoqnization and saved favorite listings.

Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / New Pokemon GBA games for $20 at Best Buy this week
|
on: September 13, 2004, 09:50:07 PM
|
|
The two new Pokemon games (Leaf Green and Fire Red) are on sale this week at Best Buy for $24.99. Get one of the gamer's cards they have throughout the store, pop down the price of the game (around $21 or any amount you want starting around $1) and then use the card and $5 off $20 coupon that's with it for a total pre tax price of $19.99.
Even if you hate the Pokemon games it's still a good deal because they include the GBA wireless adapter which is sold seperately for $20. So you could always get it, trade the game and keep the adapter if you were going to get one anyway.

This has worked out really well for me so far. I've managed to get
Chronicles of Riddick Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow Baldurs Gate II Fatal Frame II Spiderman 2 Luigi's Mansion
All for a grand total of around $55. And I got rid of a bunch of games that were worth almost nothing that nobody wanted in trade including ancient sports titles. Still looking for Crimson Skies and Ninja Gaiden.

Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Trade 2 and get any preowned game for 9.99 - Gamerush stores
|
on: July 19, 2004, 08:49:51 PM
|
There is a trade in deal at Gamerush stores (certain Blockbuster videos). The trade deal is trade in any 2 (PS1, PS2, XBox, GC or GB/GBA) games and get any preowned game for 9.99. I took 4 cheapo games I got at Circuit City (4.99 each) and traded them at gamerush using the trade deal. I got the credit for the games (total of $26) so I walked out with Spiderman 2 and Fatal Frame II and $4 in credit for $20 total purchase (not including tax). Fantastic deal...now I'm just waiting for them to get some more games I want in...like Riddick and Sudeki. I don't know how often they get games in but one of the clerks said they had over 100 games traded in last Monday. Should be a good rotation of stock. EDIT - trade in deal only good at Gamerush areas in certain Blockbuster stores. Check out www.gamerush.com for locations. EDIT2 - You get credit for the games you trade in and you get to use the trade 2 deal at the same time. Your credit, if it's enough, will apply towards the 9.99. This is great for newer high dollar games like Spiderman 2, Riddick, Fatal Frame 2, Sudeki, etc. Also since there are no exclusions you can trade old sports games and other near worthless games to get in on the deal (though you will get next to no credit for credit for them).

Ok I'm looking for the following games:
REALLY WANT: Disgaea PS2 Harvest Moon GC Zoo Tycoon Marine Mania expansion Baldur's Gate 2 XBox
WANT: Harvest Moon PS2 D&D Heroes XBox WC3 Frozen Throne expansion PC NWN 2nd expansion PC Final Fantasy X PS2
I'm also looking for an instruction manual and box for Tactics Ogre for the GBA. Don't need the game. I'm also looking for strategy guides for Disgaea and Tactics Ogre for the GBA.
Plenty to trade including DVDs. May consider buying if it's a good price...will reimburse with extras if you have an extra copy of Disgaea or Tactics Ogre from CC sale this past weekend. My ELOG listing is the very bottom of page 2.
I also have the XBox live sealed 1 year kit, Railroad Tycoon 3 NEW, Beyond Divinity and some other newer games in addition to the ELOG.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Xbox] Fable coming soon, quotes from preview
|
on: June 01, 2004, 05:29:40 PM
|
These are quotes from a gamespot preview available on ebgames.com. The bad: While Fable's gameplay was originally slated to be a very open-ended experience that had your character aging and developing based on your progress and play style, respectively, the game has since headed in a more-structured direction. Fable uses an action-role-playing game approach in which your character will gain experience levels by accruing experience points. The game will have four main kinds of experience: general, strength, skill, and will. Performing specific tasks will earn you various amounts of general experience, as well as a certain amount of specific experience in either strength, skill, or will. The good: While character development may not have wound up offering quite as many options as it set out to, the actual gameplay certainly has. One of the major components of the game that was originally announced was that you were going to be able to be as good or as evil as you wanted. Unlike most RPGs, which tend to firmly lock you in the roles of virtuous, milk-drinking heroes who save kittens and damsels in distress, Fable gives you the option to instead be a vice-laden, liquor-chugging cad who kills small animals and terrorizes the locals. I don't know quite what to make of them. It seems like they removed most of what was truly interesting and revolutionary and made it another pretty RPG. Current release date is 9/13/04 so at least it's close

Count me in the love the GBA SP camp. I keep mine in the car and it's great to pass the time anytime and anywhere (except where I would look like a total geek playing...then I play games on my cell phone instead ). Do you reply to everyone who enters the current contest? I'd hate to enter only to find out my email was never received and I was never in the running. Does it matter if I send the email through hotmail and my normal home email address (only reason I'm asking is that someone complained they didn't receive my roadrunner email I sent a few days ago). Maybe you could setup an automated response on the contest email alias saying "entry received, thank you" or something like that.
