1521  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Thief 3 'out of range' on my resoultion. How do I fix it? on: October 26, 2004, 11:57:34 AM
Resolution too high and freezes fix:

If your Resolution is set too high in the game, and you can't change it back because the game got EXTREMELY fuzzy then follow these directions:

You can change it by first finding this folder, should be here - C:\Documents and Settings\PC\My Documents\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SaveGames\User Options -, open the options file (should be the only file you see) like the 12th line down will be "RESOLUTION=4" change it to "RESOLUTION=2" Save the file and start up your game. Should be all good.
1522  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Not up on lingo. Is this being "pwned"? on: October 26, 2004, 11:50:13 AM
It's hard to believe people are that stupid.
1523  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone else vote yet? on: October 26, 2004, 11:49:32 AM
I voted yesterday (North Carolina is one of the states with early voting).  I'm going to be gone next week and wanted to get it done with.  Waited around 2 hours and it's all finished.  As of this morning they were reporting 650,000 people had voted so far in NC.

It was rather nice...I got to avoid the election day traffic, the expected long lines and delays, no security concerns and now no one can say I can't complain since I didn't vote smile
1524  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / My ToysRUs Buy 2 Get 1 Free Purchase on: October 26, 2004, 12:19:58 AM
Did anyone notice if the Shadow Hearts: Covenant is the multigame pack that includes the first one?  I know they had a few one Amazon (they're gone) and I think I remember at least one person saying he got it in store (I think on CAG).  If so it's defintely on the list.
1525  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GTASA being sold Monday (10/25) at 7pm in my local EB on: October 25, 2004, 11:59:29 AM
Wouldn't the best deal be the current Toys R Us Buy 2 Get 1 free deal.  They "could" have them as early as Tuesday night, probably Wed or Thur in most places but that would take your total price for each to $33.33.

And those damn commercials on the TV with the Guns and Roses soundtrack sold me on getting this game.
1526  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone here have an MSDN Professional subscription? on: October 24, 2004, 03:51:09 AM
I also have the Universal and it's great...just about every Windows version, programming software and business application available anytime I want it.  I was using the full office 2003 before it hit retail and you also have access to the latest betas.  I don't think I would pay for it though's defintely a company type purchase (the Universal is $2000+)
1527  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The world is over. I broke my Directv/Tivo remote. on: October 23, 2004, 01:39:24 AM
If you're going to spend $20 on an off brand universal remote why not spend the $20 and get the real TiVo remote from Directv?  I could see it if you were getting one of the high end macro remotes.  I have used the Terk (a version of it anyway) and it does work with the Tivo...but it does not work as well.  I eventually scrapped it because it would lose the code for the Tivo every 2-3 days even with new batteries.
1528  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The world is over. I broke my Directv/Tivo remote. on: October 22, 2004, 10:40:54 PM
The one from DirecTv is the official OEM Tivo remote...the same one you would get if you bought a new DirecTivo today.  I don't know where you are but I could not find a universal remote for under $20 that included all of the buttons the Tivo remote has...the closest a retail place had (that actually worked) was $35 at Best Buy though Target had some for $15-20 that claimed to work with Tivo (but didn't).
1529  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / "Disc Read Error" NOOO!!! [PS2] on: October 22, 2004, 12:08:30 PM

I have no idea if it works, but you might want to have a look at this.

I'm not sure about that article but it looks similar to the one I used at Tweak3D.Net: link here.

I had to repair my PS2 using this guide and it cost me about $3.00 for a can of compressed air and abut 30 minutes.  Works great.

That's a nice guide.  I've been lucky in that my PS2 is close to a launch model and still isn't giving me any problems.  I am really tempted to trade it in for the new PS2 revision though...I could use the extra space.
1530  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What if Half-life 2 uses Starforce? on: October 22, 2004, 11:58:03 AM
The list is not up to date.  More newer games, like Singles UK, also used Starforce.  I've had it installed in the past and never had a problem but I won't buy any new games that have it.  Even Half Life 2.
1531  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gothic 2 Add-on coming to US after all? on: October 22, 2004, 11:45:06 AM
I really hope so.  I finally beat Gothic 1 a few months ago and went straight into Gothic 2...and I would love an excuse to replay it again.  Since the english translation has been done for a long time and it's patches and ready they would do really well to release it this year before the holidays.
1532  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The world is over. I broke my Directv/Tivo remote. on: October 22, 2004, 02:57:29 AM not order your DirecTivo remote from anywhere except DirecTV.  Call them up and they will send you the latest revision remote for $20 including fedex shipping (I got a 2nd remote a week or so ago).  No problems, no hassle and much cheaper than any retail and most online.  You have to call them though...they don't offer the Tivo remote online like the other universal remotes on their site.

EDIT - you can record shows from the DirecTivo box...I just bring up the guide, scroll to the right program and hit select.  A huge pain but it would work until you get the replacement.  I really wish the box had a page up and page down's a real pain going from channel 36 to 300.
1533  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Grrrr... Doomboy getting ANGRY! on: October 22, 2004, 01:02:50 AM
Yes they are doing it and yes it pisses me off.  NBC is very bad for this...why else does ER come on at 9:59?  It makes it impossible to record CSI (9-10) and then record ER (9:59-11) because the TiVo sees a conflict and cancels the one lower on the list.  I even remember NBC doing press releases where they talked about combating the DVR "problem".  But you battle is a lot easier.  If they keep doing it then I will stop watching completely.  And as more and more people get DVRs then they will start to feel the pinch and move on to something different.  Hopefully.
1534  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP -- how much is this thing gonna cost? on: October 21, 2004, 07:02:34 PM
I'm also looking forward to it but there is no way in hell I'm paying $300 to $350 for it...especially at launch.  I guess I've gotten spoiled paying $100 or less for the GBA but the fact I paid less than $200 for both my XBox and PS2 is also a factor.

1536  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / virus in .txt file? on: October 20, 2004, 04:07:38 PM
No.  You can not get a virus from a pure text file...the file must have some form of binary component to activate...text is just that....text.  You can't get a virus from a pure text file (not yet, anyway) no more than you could get a computer virus from a page of a paper book.

1541  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Sacred PLUS: October 29th on: October 20, 2004, 11:57:43 AM
It's not that big a deal with me.  I plan on exporting my character and starting over since the old save games aren't reliable...but that is something that should have been listed at the top of the readme...but this oversight is typical of Sacred and the patches released for it.
1542  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Thinking of buying an Apple computer on: October 20, 2004, 11:54:45 AM
I can't add much except to add that I would love to get an Apple Mac and start learning it.  I almost bought an Apple laptop before I got my Dell but this was before the price drops that have been common the past few months.  If you have the means I would get one and try it out...if nothing else find one and use it first to see if you even like it.
1543  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Raptorman, US on: October 19, 2004, 12:46:14 PM
Evidently he was been in some sort of training and did not have access or time to keep the updates coming (he's military).  One of his forums posts said he's back now and it should be updated more regularly now.

I think they can claim it was the most successful game of the year (of it's type) because it was the only game of it's type this year.  I can't think of another that was like it (same type as Diablo, Dungeon Seige, etc).

1548  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Further Developments in the TSS scandal : ) on: October 17, 2004, 02:15:16 AM
He didn't just die...he was in email dialog for weeks after the last trade happened.  The excuses never stopped...he was leaving the company, traveling all over the country and overseas looking for a job, etc, etc, etc.  He is nothing more than a common thief who ripped off at least 10 people on this board, more through the TSS site and many many more through ebay.  I don't want my 10 games back...I want 10 minutes in private to beat the hell out of him for being an base lying cowardly ass and betraying everything gonegold stood for.  BTW, the site is still up but nothing has been updated since early this year and no emails/phone numbers are answered.  Damn I hope he's in jail right now...that's about the only excuse I would accept.
1549  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / So, anyone ever had a sleep study? on: October 15, 2004, 02:38:40 PM
I had one too.  One thing to tell you in advance - bring pajamas.  I did not get the letter they sent where they tell you what to bring so I showed up ready for the study to sleep in my boxers only...except they have to hook up and anyone else there up first with the electrodes and it's not private.  Also eat a good dinner, go to the bathroom and smoke your last one (if you smoke) before going won't be coming back out before it's over.

They also found I had sleep apnea and it was bad enough that I bypassed the cpap machine and went straight to surgery (very rare with a HMO).  The surgery is a whole other thread though and the worst week after of my life but almost every day has been better since.

If you do have it and get it fixed you will not believe the absolute difference after it's fixed.  I went from being groggy, tired, falling asleep driving after 9 hours of sleep to fully awake, functional and alert on 7 hours.  I breathe better, sleep better and think clearer.
1550  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / New Stephen Donaldson: Anyone reading? on: October 15, 2004, 12:32:35 AM
Crap forgot all about it.  I'm planning on getting it but I'm not reading it right away.  I don't think I can handle reading what is book 1 of 4 and then having to wait months for the next and so on.  I trying to wait for all three but I'll be lucky to wait for the 2nd before I break down.
1551  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The Dark Tower (may contain spoilers) on: October 14, 2004, 03:37:02 AM
I agree it was defintely one of the best of the series...and after reading the end I also realize it couldn't end any other way.  But damnit.  I think I actually shed a tear when Jake died.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble but in the last interview I remember reading (a few years ago) Scott specifically said that yes he was a replicant.  Sorry I can't find the interview now but I remember a fairly long thread about it on gonegold (now long gone).

1556  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / The GT Pay It Foward Freebies Thread *closing end of 2005* on: October 13, 2004, 04:53:02 PM
Hey Gratch...I'd love Disciples II. I can put up a few myself:

Commandos 1 (PC)
Silent Hill 3 (PC, Missing Disc 1 but has box, manual, other 4 CDs)
Unreal (PC)

Karma +1 (not counting Silent Hill since it's not complete)

EDIT: I'm offering Silent Hill just in case someone wants it...maybe to replace one of their lost discs or to get the box and manual and inserts when all they have are the discs.  It will not install and does not include disc 1 which is why I'm not counting it towards karma.

Talk to Mebbeth in her hut in Ragpicker's Square.  It is located in the north part of Sigil near the mortuary.  She has you run errands back and forth to the market.  After becoming a mage you can switch back and forth using Dak'kon.  Make sure to talk to Dak'kon about the circles to get a ton of experience and new spells (I leveled from 1 to 5 by talking to him and opening the circles) if your wisdom is high enough.
