It's good...and I'm actually enjoying Travelers as well.  Less puzzles and twisty, more straight sci-fi.  I actually watch Netflix more than anything else lately.
2  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Netflix] Stranger Things on: July 27, 2016, 11:00:34 PM TV show I've seen in a very long time.  We watched it all over two days and loved every episode including the ending.

The good news is season 2 is a go and will be a direct sequel using the same actors.

It is complex...on top of that I would say it's complex for no reason besides being complex.  I think a lot of it is because it's a Asian MMO.  They pay for most of their MMO time by the minute/hour so anything that slows down the game.  In the end it's good enough that I'm overlooking the problems it does have.  It also helps that I'm starting to understand the systems as they interconnect and also learning how to make money.  For example I've spent the last week and a half afk fishing making around 30k-40k a time.  Today I'm bringing in over 500k just from this afternoon.  I've also started upgrading my armor which means my witch can actually survive some hits when I screw up and I really, really like the witch over most of the other classes I've tried.  I'm also branching out into horses, farming, built my first boat and hit level 30.
5  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Black Desert Online on: April 21, 2016, 01:08:17 AM
Well, this thread dried up quick.  Anyway, still playing and honestly I think I like it more as I keep playing.  It was good when I started and now it's very good.  The only sad thing is this one is the first WoW contender I've played in a long time...but it will never succeed due to the cash shop.  Too many quality of life parts missing to "encourage" you to use the cash shop.  You don't realize how much you miss inventory/bank space and auto loot until it's locked behind a pay wall.  Otherwise though I'm finding it to be a realistic and complex series of MMO systems that mostly work.  I became much happier when I started treating it as a diablo type combat MMO (I mean come're going to be killing tens of thousands of mobs in this game using action based combat).

To anyone still interested they added 2 new classes in today's patch and the new limited event started today.  Collect 12 of the seals (1 per day per login) and you can get a free pet and some upgrade stones.

What a bummer, I had hope that they could do something truly new and interesting with the MMO.

Since Daybreak broke off from Sony it seems like it's kind of been a constant downhill.  At least from the outside.

Well it's a great way for Daybreak to destroy every last shred of goodwill the existing player base had towards them.  Between basically ignoring Landmark almost completely to cancelling EQNext I doubt there's a player left who is looking forward to anything they do in the future.
8  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Black Desert Online on: April 04, 2016, 01:40:26 AM
Thank you.  I'm liking it much more than I thought I would.  My initial impression is Vanguard, Guild Wars 2 and Tera had an awesome but difficult baby.  It's like they added everything including the kitchen sink, made it work but then hid it behind the most obtuse systems possible.  After about a day I'm starting to absorb some of the new systems but I really need a lot more research before I really figure out what's really going on.  AFK fishing right now smile

EDIT: Well, I liked the game enough to buy it after playing a few days.  I'm starting to absorb some of the systems so they almost make sense.

I don't think I've ever played a game though where the company seems so completely out of touch with the NA market though.  From one of the most expensive (NA) cash shops ever ($30 per costume per character, character bound and not account bound), lack of marketing, a UI that seems ok but hides every option behind another option that's sometimes behind another option, to an awesome character design system that then locks characters to specific genders and classes to a total lack of another customer service it's a miracle this is as popular as it is.  It's a Korean version of the original Blizzard's "our" game and regardless of the decade of proof of how to do it better and make it more popular/profitable we are going to do it "our" way so FU.  It's too bad because it's a truly good game underneath it all and it will never be more than a pretty niche here in NA.

Second EDIT: Well, there's no timeframe but it looks like BDO is going to add some kind of item trading, adding some kind of costumes and some pets in-game (no cash shop) and reducing the RNG of dyes.  Maybe, just maybe they will make enough changes to make a difference before it becomes a niche game.  I installed Tera and Archeage again and honestly it beats both of them without a problem...going to give Blade and Soul another try next while continuing to explore BDO.

Honestly your best bet would be to start over from scratch.  Not only is it much quicker to level now you can see all of the old world that has changed and been reworked from the cataclysm expansion.  While you missed a lot of changes after BC (many of which has been reverted) it's still a very different game from then.

Interesting. I haven't played WoW since the time around the release of Burning Crusade.  I would really
like to make a return to WoW, but the task of catching up with everything seems daunting.
I've missed tons of new developments..Does Blizzard have a way of streamlining the return trip?

I kicked around the idea for something like this being handled in game: Each expansion would have say,
10 hours of play, weaving the new stuff and abiliities into game-play. I would rather that then *poof*
your max level for that expansion.

Anyone attempt a big return to Wow, have any knowledge of this subject?
I'm not enjoying the newer MMO's. I'm burned out for bit on the picture post-card
visuals, and they become very fast a screen shot simulator.
I really liked Wow and its visual style. Cartoon y, yet not so much.

I'm partially in shock still from thinking of a return to Wow.
Get back into playing the Cow.

Has anyone been taking their power armor off? There was one point where I got down to my last power core but then almost immediately found a batch of 4.

I've only used it for one mission, besides the default one outside the Museum in Concord. I've played 42 hours in-game and am at Level 22 and so far, on normal difficulty, it's possible to play without it. I'm saving those Fusion Cores and the upgraded suit for later.

I use it full time now...lvl 30 with 35ish cores left.  Have both perks in nuclear physicist so they last forever.  My DR is well over 1200 even without every piece being upgraded.  Still run into things that can 2-3 shot me if I'm not careful.  Save lots and lots of aluminum if you want to go power armor.

Currently loving my build. I maxed Luck and Charisma, building some Perception now. I took Mysterious Stranger, Lady Killer, a few one offs and Idiot Savant, which is hilarious. A chance to get 3 times the XP for something, and that chance gets higher the less Int you have. Fantastic.

And yeah, power suits stay where you leave them, but your map only tracks the location of your most recently used suit, so I just keep all mine in Sanctuary. As far as I can tell, it doesn't burn your power to fast travel in power armor, so its fine.

Do not leave the fusion core in the suit or it may not be there when you get back.  This includes settlements.  Without the core it's safe to leave anywhere.

I don't really understand the hate to be's better in so many ways that Fallout 3.  The only real backwards step was the dialog system.  Rolling the skills into perks didn't hurt me one bit as I constantly ran into a 49 skill when I needed 50 or 74 skill when I needed 75 in FO3.  Settlements could use a lot of extras but the foundation is there, combat is more fluid and I actually like VATS not freezing time.  Story honestly isn't bad and better than FO3 (not New Vegas with all DLC though).  Morality system is great, tons of weapons, lots of companions that aren't worthless, lots of different factions as you advance (along with some difficult choices).  Graphics are a real step up over FO3 or NV and it's been the most bug free Bethesda game I've ever played.

Around 20 hours in though it went from a game I really liked to one of the top games I love for the year (no spoilers but I'm a huge BoS fan).

Just want to add that I understand it's not everyone's idea of Fallout or their type of game.  Some are experiencing early crash to desktop errors, others have hit a game ending bug (hope you have multiple older saves), some just hate that it's simplified at all (I do agree with this one to a point but I'm going with the steam lining point of view instead).

Me too.  Still, looks like they're going for a solid $200 now which would still be enough to cover the cost and pay for the game and season pass (using the GMG 20% coupon for PC).  I'm tempted to hold on to it for another month and try closer to Christmas when the cheap ones on eBay are gone and demand starts going up again.

The problem is we don't know what the WD's group was like the first few weeks of the outbreak either.  Most of them could have been complete clueless idiots as well.  Rick doesn't wake up and the show really doesn't start until it's two months post outbreak.

At this point no one is doing anything right.  No one is sticking together.  The family is trying to act normal (jogging, painting the room, etc) even surrounded by the military and entire portions of LA lost.  The military is killing anything that moves and acting like spoiled idiots with no real concerns.

I just hope they don't go with the theme a lot zombie books take where it started as a government plan to kill most everyone and leave only the elite (and some slaves) to take over the world.  It would be awesome to see the military portrayed as something more then 14 year olds who are living Call of Duty real life edition.  You know, maybe show them as a highly trained, highly regimented group of soldiers with control and honor?

I finished it (main story, about 75% of the major side quests) in around 30 hours.  1440p, maxed everything and never had a crash and hardly had a slowdown.  Of course PC on a SSD smile  Really liked it, doubt I will ever go back to it but I bought it on sale and I received more than enough on my time/value scale.  I would have liked a little more story and a lot  more background items.

As for the story I believe it's a prequel to the movie but even after finishing it I couldn't say 100%.  Fun diversion.

For those curious, here is the list of supported devices the Pip-Boy will work with out of the box:

Smart Phone Compatibility

We have new information on the phones compatible with the Pip-Boy Edition. The Pip-Boy included will have foam inserts that fit iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy 5, and Samsung Galaxy 4. In addition, using the customizable foam insert you should be able to fit most other popular smartphone devices.  As we wanted to stay faithful to the dimensions of the in-game model, any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device.

Emphasis mine.  Looks like I need to get my old Galaxy 3 up and running again.

It's a little disappointing given the large and growing market share of the G3, G4, iPhone 6+ and other 5.5" phones.  I'm still glad I managed to snag one but I won't be using it with my G3 unless it wedges in somehow.

Sigh, I feel like an ingrate for saying this, but it's getting to the point where I feel like I should just avoid buying new games at release and just wait on the enhanced editions that will inevitable come out a year later.

If you had watched the video you would have learned that if you have the original version they will be giving you the enhanced version for free.

Yeah, after Wasteland 2 decided to give everyone their GOTY upgraded version for free I don't see how they couldn't do the same.  I'm personally impressed with both companies and love both games.  I'm wondering though if I shouldn't go ahead and finish my run in the current game now since it's supposed to be a very/slightly different game with the changes (even to the point of a different installation).

TES Online going subscription free on 3/17, but you still will need to buy the base game and PS4/XB1 versions launching in June.   So glad I missed the hype on this one.  I might pick this up in June to play if they don't have micro-transaction

Well so far it's cosmetic choices only and it seems to be following the GW2 model (buy game, get everything, store is mostly cosmetic, no monthly sub).  I played a couple months at launch and it's improved in a lot of ways since then.  The early bugs are gone, some of the earlier quests have been enhanced and expanded, animation and combat is smoother and it's had some quality of life fixes.  It's also nice right now because the pop is probably higher than it's been since launch and the early towns are booming again.  The only problem I see with the console versions is the lack of addons/mods the PC version has...that and the cost.  You can get the imperial version for PC for around $25 on eBay right now.

At least with 4 you don't know what training he's had...his mother was involved with the movement and his dad basically started the movement.  It's possible he has had extension firearm and martial arts training while growing up.  In 3 you knew the only thing the main lead did was lift a beer and go jogging while maybe playing high school football.  Total douche with friends to match.

I really like 4 a lot and it fixed many of the problems I had with 3.  The auto drive alone is worth it.

I've been playing the alpha and the only way I can describe it is a mix of UO and Guild Wars 2 with the questionable GW2 bits stripped and replaced with WoW (or EQ2) mechanics.  None of the stuff I hated from GW2 like auto leveling down in lower areas, no clear classes, etc.  No instances which means the start zones are wall to wall people in the early areas mob camping though this goes away about 30 mins in.  Open world housing.  Large group and zone PvP influence late in the game.  No real end game because there's no real end to the translates into a decent sandbox at 50 (where the final game will release, not 55 like the Korean version) which may frustrate people.  You get a lot of goodies early (I had a mount, glider and boat by 15) and you level quick.  Still has some of the Korean grind but Trion has really done a good job adding quests and storylines for at least the early part of the game.  No good reason for Alts on the same server due to skill trees being available to all and labor points shared on all characters on that server.

Much better than I ever expected, definitely not for everyone, hardcore raiders who hate PvP should avoid.

Well, the thing is - do you want a person without Bartering to be doing all your buying and selling? Because of that, the 'money is not pooled' makes some sense.

From what I've read only the person who has the highest bartering needs to initiate the conversation with the keep the discount/bonus/etc when switching between characters based on who the first one to talk was.

I was really hoping for some basic UI mods to come pretty quickly though.  A bag or inventory mod would be great.

I've had very few issues...mostly some slight lag and a couple quests I had to log out and back in to trigger.  While I really enjoy the game I am really starting to see the console roots and it's clear it was designed for a controller.  The UI, even with add-ons, is horrid and slow and the 6 (5 plus ultimate) skill bar totally sucks.  It's sad because there's a great game underneath and it's overshadowed by the UI and lack of any real modern AAA conveniences.

In short:  Love the game, hate the UI, despise the limitations, sick of console conversions for MMOs (where the majority of players are PC)
