Maybe I am late to the party (using Steam for years) - but today I bought a game from work and was given the option to remote install (I was logged on at home). Slick, no waiting when I get home. How long has this feature been used? What else don't I know about  icon_wink

Good Job, everyone!  We made it to Level 3 guild, one step closer to getting a Guild Base,  thanks in part to some last minute heroics by a few GT members.  We can relax and breathe again - at least until we get close to the next level of Zeal Points needed for level 4... which is when the real fun begins.

I learned another Instance - one that I had been dreading, until I had done my first one;  It's Wraith Castle, it sounded extremely complicated but turned out to be quite simple and a lot of fun.  It was the same with the Pet Tutorial, looked difficult, turned out to be easy, though I had to run through it several times before I was able to do it without a hitch.  That's just me because I'm lost all the time, but it's a fairly simple route plus I marked the map to auto-path to the 4 locations needed.  A level 1 pet can be taken through the tutorial and exit level 33 which comes in quite handy on the Pet Tamer job.

I still can't beat Lola but the game gives you many alternate ways to earn the same rewards I would get from that race, so I probably won't bother with her again, lol. I also am never doing Nightmare Carnival again.  Most players enjoy that Instance and find it fun... not so much those predominantly using the mouse for controlling movement.  Again, there are so many things to do in the game, that I'm planning on attacking other Events and Instances, and avoiding that one.

And now it's time to play again!

Nice job on the Guild upgrade! I noticed we dropped to 1947 -do we keep our Level 3? I am ready for Wraith Castle - let me know when you want to give it a go!

Robbie - good to see you in-game last night. You may have to get out of the starter area before you can join VSQReserve. MyToc knows you are out there. We have a couple level 17's so I know you can get in at that level. Let's us know as you progress. We have about 36 in the guild with a number of GTer's.

Let's not forget MyToe  icon_smile. Learned a couple valuable lessons last night. In our Lighthouse instance (non Guild) one party member went AFK leaving us shorthanded. So I blind invited Myto (not telling her what was up). She wasn't ready to do a run and so my apology there. Then I conscripted another Guild member (this time I put out a request) and get level 42 Bantu. He was great! But the original party had one knucklehead pre-pubescent who wanted to run the show (even though he was 9 levels lower than the 2 top players).

Lesson to self - don't lose Guild cred by (inadvertently) sticking them with a lame instance - they are not likely to want to help again! Bantu was good about the whole thing though - and there were a couple of decent drops.

Amen! I still have to ask questions about several aspects of the game. Thanks MyToc for the great little synopsis on cash and gold! I broke down (after many hours of F2P) and bought some needed items. I have no problem paying for a (F2P) game I am enjoying as much as this title.

Pulled the trigger on this and did the install last night. My Asus GTS450 (overclocked at factory) was running about 10250 (3dMark 2006) with an X2 5600. The processor was holding it back. The GTS now runs 16300 with the six core and 8 gig RAM(versus 4). The difference, of course, is running Witcher 2, DA2, Forsaken World, NFS HP2 WITH eye candy - but hmmmm. a Radeon 6850 may be in my future. Always gotta have a little bit more.. icon_wink

Did my first instance with Mytoc's guild yesterday - was quite the blast despite being shorthanded. I am a bachelor this weekend so will have much gameplay time  thumbsup

Oh, "shorthanded"- that is quite the understatement!  Our party leader accidentally signed us up for the Advanced God's Trial, one person had a power failure upon stepping into the instance, one must have thought we were Doomed and quit, and another d/c'ed halfway through.  Essentially we did it as a 3 person party, and it was earicci's first go-round with that instance to boot.  God's Trials are frenetic enough to mind-blast most first-timers, lol, so it was EPIC.  We probably asked each other whether we should quit ten or twelve times, but we just kept going... and eventually won.  Good times, without doubt.

 icon_razz
It was still a blast. Mytoc should be called the energizer bunny - she just hung in there for about forty minutes pounding away! Now, after using some identify scrolls and ramping up my gear a bit I think I am a bit more prepared. Co-op'ing with friends is compelling as you all know.

Just wrapped up DS3.   I thought it was a very good game, and easily the best of the 3 DS titles.  A couple final thoughts:

1.  I finished at around 12 hours, and completed every side quest I came across.  The length felt just about right.  There's a good deal of replay value for those who want to play through with different characters, as each one has a vastly different style of play and you can make some very different story choices.
2.  Playing as Lucas (the melee-focused character), I ended up using my 1-handed weapon and skills almost exclusively for the latter half of the game.  In fact, I don't think I switched to my 2-hander a single time...there was never a need.
3.  I never really warmed up to the loot system.  It simply boiled down to equipping the most expensive item in your inventory.  The myriad of skills that different items affected made it incredibly difficult to tell whether a new item at the shops would actually be an upgrade or not.  Therefore, I never ended up buying anything until the very last shop.  They could have done a better job here.
4.  Bravo to Obsidian on the ending, it was fantastic.  I remember the original DS being one of the worst endings I've ever seen (literally a paragraph of text after beating the final boss that basically said "Thanks for playing, there will be a sequel"), and this one more than makes up for it.  They tied up nearly all the loose ends, and really made me feel like my characters actions had a huge effect on the world of Ehb.
5.  As with many action RPG's, things did get rather repetitive towards the end.  Especially with the multiple Return of the King-style fake endings.
6.  It looks decent, but not great.  Graphics get the job done, but they certainly aren't going to knock anyone's socks off.

Overall, this is a solid game with a lot to offer.  I'm not much for MP, so I can't speak to that aspect, but the single player experience is very well done.  I'd give it a B+ overall, and it's been the most fun I've had with a game released this year.

Nice review Gratch. I think I will give this one a go.

Based on several reviews here on GT from those that stuck with it- time to at least download the demo. I liked I and II. Let's see.

Be forewarned, DS3 is nothing like Dungeon Siege I and II.  DSI & II were basically straight-up Diablo clones, whereas DS3 is more similar to previous console style ARPG titles like Baldur's Gate:  Dark Alliance.  I'd actually say combat is far closer to something like The Witcher than your typical hack-n-slash.

I think those going in expecting the next Diablo/Torchlight/Titan Quest will be very disappointed.
Okay, that is the take I was looking for. I will at least give the demo a go. Thanks for the post.
