Lowe's  Storage Engineer III
July 2011 - Present

As a Storage Engineer for Lowe's Companies I am the sole physical presence here in the San Antonio Data Center.  The Lowe's date center in San Antonio is development, test, QA, Disaster Recovery, and some production.  I am responsible for all physical work within the data center to support the storage environment.  Locally I manage 5 Petabytes of storage (backup excluded), 20 Brocade Directors, remote links between data centers for both mainframe and open systems.  My daily duties are to assign san ports, run cabling, provision storage for projects, and work with our Intel/Unix teams on any issues.  I perform all storage work for our monthly D/R exercise and have created custom procedures for targeted D/R events.   I have initiated projects at Lowe's that have reduced costs to the company by approximately $500,000 by optimizing equipment utilization and placement in the data center.  I merged SAN fabrics to migrate servers and storage to newer SAN hardware to retire the SAN equipment due for maintenance, lowering costs.  I created a second fabric to provide high availability to the open systems environment.   I mentored Lowe's Command Center persons to teach them the SAN provisioning process.  I work with the Mooresville engineering team to vet code/firmware prior to upgrades to our environment.  I have worked on multiple "Proof of Concept" initiatives to include; Ficon with TerraData, Isilon, Zlunix on open systems, NETAPP, and implementing DCX4S with FCIP for replication (mainframe and open systems).   Monitor a small team of contractors that provision storage to ensure SLA's are maintained and requests are expedited appropriately.   In the San Antonio Data Center I currently support; VMAX, DMX-4, VNX, Clariion CX4's, Isilon, Data Domain, Avamar, and NETAPP storage units; our SAN is exclusively Brocade.

Below is a summary of the hardware that I actively and have worked with:

Symmetrix – 8000 series, DMX800/1000/2000/3000, DMX3/4, VMAX
Clariion – CX300/500/700, CX3-40/80, CX4-240/480/960, VNX (Unified and block)
NAS – NS120, NS40, NS960, NSG8, NSX
SAN – Brocade, McData, Cisco
Backup – EDL, DLM, Data Domain (hardware)

I think the player base is dwindling.  The whole garrison raid/group finder thing just has a lot of areas now empty on servers.  I am mainly on twisting nether and even with server merges it is low on population.  People get in farm what they want and log off.  Garrisons are called fortress of solitudes everything you need is there; gather what you want craft queue up from there.  What do you need main cities for anymore?  For me its become almost a single player game.  Now they have the new time sink of the ships in your harbor to send out on missions.

48  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: World of Warships on: August 09, 2015, 03:30:55 PM
I play pretty much every day.  I really like the IJN destroyers, with torpedoes that can run 10K they can surprise enemy ships big time.  Its a fun game very team oriented.  Lone wolf tactics tend to get you dead.

Don't bother with the "My goal is" statement no one who is hiring cares what your goal is they care what you can do for them.

Keep it to one page if you can.

You have to get their interest in the top third of the first page or they wont read any farther.

Don't downplay yourself.  Military people do this all the time including myself.

My resume is two pages with everything important on page one and work history on page 2.

Thanks for the keys been playing this game and enjoying it.  So is my son, he is 14 and its "cool" to be in a beta to him.  Its a good game having fun although I am still struggling with how accurate some players on at distance (like 15Km) with first salvo hits.  Making torpedo runs can be frustrating due to the range and your team mates doing stupid things.  Torpedo's don't care what they hit they go boom so FF is always an option with them and some players just don't care if they hit a team mate with them.

Ron you may want to look at GM in Austin.  They got rid of all the contractors and hired a whole lot of people; two of my co-workers went there.  The pay for one guy was very good as a starting storage engineer and the benefits were excellent.  They are still hiring.  My other co-worker is an AIX person and she works 3 12 hour days from home doing AIX support; yes its full time for her.

Remember, Hero, these keys are for recruitment purposes only. Posting them publicly, selling, or auctioning them off may result in deactivation of the keys, and will leave your team’s roster empty.

Please note that these keys will only work in NA Battle.Net account region.

I have the Saitek X45 stick and throttle.  I have had this for years as I used to use it with my CH rudder pedals when I played Aces High.

In other news I am up to just over $36K credits by traveling and selling my mappings.  Important tip is to map your scanner to a second fire group and set it off in sectors you jump into.
60  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elite: Dangerous on: February 16, 2015, 09:59:09 PM
My food mission did pay me as it was a go find us 2 tons of algae so we can eat and bring it back.  I have seen the missions of hey can someone please help and we cant pay you.

I have also had no missions on the bulletin board at all.  Had to fly somewhere else to get something to do.

There are the go here and kill this guy mission but I don't want to take those on yet as they always say you are on your own (illegal).  I haven't had any dogfighting other than the practice mission.
61  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elite: Dangerous on: February 16, 2015, 04:14:05 AM
I had no trouble with that mission.  Although what I did different was I targeted it and fired on it at a much greater distance.  I don't think I could really even see the thing so maybe its too close or you need to target it to hit it.  Didn't look like you had it targeted in the video.  T is target front target (default anyway).

I have done a few missions in solo mode just cargo delivery or deliver flyers.  I bought algae and prevented a famine for a station.  Missions are only paying 1k to 4k credits so I have about 16K in the bank.  Got interdicted twice so far; once by military that ignored me after yanking me out of cruise and another by pirates I think.  They had my shields gone in 3 volleys and my screen was cracking.  I ran as fast as I could until I could charge up and hit super cruise again.  Still in solo play, want to get more credits in the bank before going online.

Flying into a station was pretty darn cool.  Although my first time into a station where you fly in through the dock then look for your pad went a bit awry.  Apparently I entered through the exit side and big ship was flying out as I entered.  I was pretty proud of myself for being able to maneuver up and around the big cargo ship without bumping into it or the station.

ok I caved and just bought this.  Am downloading it now while watching tutorials on how to play.  Dusted off my Saitek X45 HOTAS (literally) and connected it up, calibrated just fine in windows (kind of surprised there).  See you guys in space at some point here.

Any tips for someone just starting out?

Regardless of home user upgrade rate, they have to support older versions of Windows for years because of the enterprise side of the business. Big corporations/government don't upgrade their OS quickly, so I don't see support is a reason.

That's a primary reason of the free upgrade.  It is expected that businesses will upgrade much faster onto windows 10 within that year of "its free".

67  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / upgrade xbox 360 game to xbox one on: December 26, 2014, 04:23:53 PM
is there a way for the newer games to be upgraded from 360 to Xbox one?  I got my son the Xbox one for Christmas and thought the newer games could be upgraded?  COD AW, TitanFall etc.

What about games you bought from MS that are downloaded like MineCraft?  Do I have to buy that over again?
68  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The end of a gaming era on: December 11, 2014, 04:46:37 PM
I wasnt talking about Sony taking care of the Playstation I was referring to Sony being around as a company.  Sony cannot continue to exist on just revenue from the playstation.

Sony isnt the company it used to be.  It seems the innovation is gone which is a loss.  There was a video I saw of its museum of products which is pretty cool to see.  The last two things in it were the PS3 and PS4, thats kind of telling.
69  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The end of a gaming era on: December 11, 2014, 04:17:33 AM
One thing you might want to look into is that Sony as a company is doing terribly.  They have re-structured and sold off some of their divisions.  They have no new gee whiz that's really new technology coming out.  They have glasses similar to google glass and an electronic credit card that can replace all your own cards; both of those are in the already done category.  Sony's only real money maker is the PS4.  If you look back at all the innovative things Sony has done in the past its looking pretty bad for them.
70  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor on: November 26, 2014, 06:13:29 AM
you can group up with people cross servers now.  You cannot trade items with them or do things like enchant gear etc. but you can form a group with friends that are not on your server.  You can run instances and raids that way as well.

I pretty much solo play all the time and my warlock is 100, rogue 97, pally tank 96 etc.

Garrisons add a bit of a change to the game as you can pick and choose core buildings to put up either for gear benefits or to help your trade skills.  There are certain buildings that everyone will get, fishery, mine, herb garden, and if you have a combat pet levels to 25 you can get the menagerie.  If you get into the Garrison I highly recommend you build the lumber mill as soon as you can; by harvesting wood you will generate resources that you will need for buildings and missions.

In San Antonio Texas 3268 sq feet for 214,000 in a community that has 3 pools and an elementary school inside it.  That's $65/ sq foot for a brand new home.  4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, garage, media room (pre-wired) and a balcony.

Based on what you are saying about home #1 it may not even appraise for the amount they may be asking so you wont get a home loan for it.  With everything that happened in the home markets appraisals can be tough.

If you really like the first and are MEH on the second.  You may want to look some more, you are going to be there for a while and may not want to be in a home you regret.

While people always say "I can make improvements here" be honest with yourself.  Are you the kind of person that will take on a home improvement project and get it done?  Have you ever done that before? it can be a stressful gig.

Maybe you should explain that the Spanish court behind this:

The court ordered google to remove links to the data not the data itself.  The data has to be considered old or out of date.

The search engine operator has to examine such requests thoroughly to determine if the information displayed about the person is still relevant. If it isn’t, the links to webpages containing that information must be removed, unless there are particular reasons not to do so, such as when knowing the linked information about a public figure is in the interest of the public, the court said.

It probably wont fly because of "Google said it was “very surprised” by the ruling that goes against the opinion of the EU advocate general who said last year that there was no universal right to be forgotten."
