1241  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / *Sigh* My first gripe with Steam on: April 24, 2005, 04:58:45 PM
You should be able to change your account info.

My first steam experience was buying a brand new sealed copy of Halflife 2 only to be told my key was already in use.  Luckily I bought it at Target and was able to return it for another copy.  My second copy worked fine.  I was not going to jack around with waiting for another CD and all the other hoops I would have to jump through to use software I had just purchased.
1242  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Quitting WoW - what's the best MMORPG for me? on: April 24, 2005, 04:54:32 PM
looking at your requirements and complaints you are not going to find any MMO currently out that will satisfy you.
1243  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Guild Wars Beta Impressions? on: April 17, 2005, 05:43:33 PM
Like most games this game is a bit boring solo.  If you are playing with a friend it s a lot better.  I played with some five man grops that were all friends of mine and it was a good time.  Solo is bleh since just about everything is an instance.
1244  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW 1.4.0 patch notes on: April 11, 2005, 03:35:58 PM
Kills are supposed to be tallied at the end of each day arent they.  They a pool of points and at the end of each day they points are then divided up amongst all players participating right?
1245  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Which Game to Get? on: April 06, 2005, 11:45:38 PM
Guild wars is NOT geared toward soloing.  The instances you go into require a group to be able to complete it.  If you cannot find players for a group you can "rent" NPC's to fill positions.  You can only have one type of an NPC rented at a time.  The available NPC's are limited sometimes to only certain classes being available; for instance only 3 NPC's in an area.  The NPC's are only so good since they are AI.  In my limited beta experience the healers were pretty good at thier role, other types only so-so.
1246  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Guild Wars? on: April 05, 2005, 11:12:33 PM
There is no monthly fee.  It is not an MMORPG of the true sort.  the only place where you are with other people is in the "city/town" zones before you start out on a quest.  The quests and this includes travelling to a new area are all instanced for your group.  You can solo but will be doing so accomponied by NPC's you can "rent" sort of to fill places in the group not filled by regular people.  The instances are set for a certain number of players and you really need to at least have close to what it calls for to complete it.  From what I understand of it the instances are handed off from the server where you meet up to the players computers that is why there is no fee; it does not require a huge backend infrastructure to support it.  The graphics are very good the quests I have done are very linear with a few deviations for bonus quests.

I wouldnt compare guild wars to any mmorpg out there its just not the same.
1247  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Which Game to Get? on: April 05, 2005, 06:33:21 PM
If you do not want any subscription fee's then guild wars is the best choice.  If you go and get a pre-order box you can play it on the upcoming beta weekend april 15th - 17th.  Pre-order box is $10 at BestBuy and you get a code to invite a friend to the beta weekends.

WoW is solo friendly to a point.  You wont be doing any instance dungeons by yourself, groups can be pretty easy to find.  Draw back on this is a monthly fee to play.

EQ2 is not solo friendly.  You need groups to do more than the simplest of quests.  It has a pretty complex crafting system setup, certain crafted items are required to "level" up your skills.  You can craft them or buy them from some one.

COH.  Havent played this one.
1248  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Happy Patch Day! [WoW] on: April 02, 2005, 02:16:27 PM
Actually L/E went as far to say that WoW was "dead to him".
1249  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Hey Rob Merrit on: March 30, 2005, 06:23:47 PM
ooh Commodore 64 my first computer.  I thought I was the shiznet after I got my first floppy drive for it and did not have to use that tape drive any more.

Not too mention that I had more power than my freind who had a Vic 20.
1250  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Dell LCD Monitor Questions on: March 30, 2005, 06:20:27 PM
I took advantage of a recent slick deal and picked up the DELL 1905FP and Axim X30 with bluetooth and 802.11B for $500.

I replaced my 21" viewsonic with this Dell and it is great.  I feel like I have gained half of my home office back with that huge thing off my desk.  THe monitor looks great and everything so far has worked just fine, I even tested out the USB ports on the monitor.  I have it hooked up via the digital cable to my Radeon 9600.  I have run half life 2 and WoW at the default res of 1280 x 1024 and no problem.

One tip when you first turn the monitor on check the brightness mine was set all the way to 100 so I lowered it to 50.  Even after that I still had to lower the Gamma in the games down to default setting or they were too bright.  Colors look fantastic and I havent noticed any pixel problems.  I ordered this on a friday afternoon and both boxes showed up on Teusday morning.

I am very happy with this purchase.

Check out every now and then Dell has been having lots of deals on LCD's.  I got this one for $310 after coupons.

1251  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / time to upgrade? on: March 12, 2005, 03:38:47 PM
newegg has 6600GT AGP cards for under $200 now.
1252  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / A nice map, but something weird. on: March 03, 2005, 08:39:07 PM
Thats nice L/E and I never believe stories from a friend of a friend who say Ferris Bueller pass out at 31 flavors last night.

In short you have an axe to grind with Blizzard about WoW and never miss a chance to post a negative.  You quit the game move the heck on.

I am sure that the guy was absolutely innocent and the smite gods just bore down on him for no reason what so ever.

He got into an area he did not belong in by a bug (not his fault) then he explored it (his fault) knowing he most likely did not belong and he got caught.
1253  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Gripes on: March 03, 2005, 08:30:49 PM
Horizons tried something like that I think.  The problem you run into is trying to add new content all the time.  What about the newer players or the ones that play slower?  they then miss out.

I can hear it now "On to Gnomeregan everyone!, Uh dude they cleaned the place up and nothing is left, its a tourist attraction now.."  "On to the deadmines! Uh Dude....tourist attraction".

It certainly is a good idea, I just do not think it is in any way possible to do this in an MMORPG.
1254  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / A nice map, but something weird. on: March 03, 2005, 06:52:26 PM
In beta the areas were well known and just about impossible to get past the guardians that were not ready for play.  NOt too mention the guardians would shout warnings as well.  The guy knew it went in anyway due to bug or not its an exploit.  he got banned for 24 hours big deal it will teach him not to do what he knows he shouldnt.

1256  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Broadband modem suggestions on: March 02, 2005, 06:53:26 PM
daehawk,  I had bellsouth DSL free for a year so I kept both.  My cable company had been bought by a larger one and I had 2 IP's grandfathered to me that I did not want to lose.  The dsl was free so I used both for that time.
1257  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Broadband modem suggestions on: February 27, 2005, 03:57:11 PM
actually daehawk it varies.  I had cable and DSL at the same time for over a year.  I downloaded a bit faster on the cable connection but had consistently a lower ping to servers on the DSL side.  By a faster download a good sized file might take a minute longer to download on the DSL versus the cable, something like a gamedemo I mean.

I ditched cable and switched to satellite and DSL; in doing so I lowered what I pay by about $25/month.
1258  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Just cancelled my WoW account. on: February 27, 2005, 03:50:05 PM
Oh boy L/E sure convinced me, who can argue with a bold font.

L/E you dont like how blizzard is handling WoW and you exercised you're consumer right to take you're business elsewhere.  Move on.
1259  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Just cancelled my WoW account. on: February 23, 2005, 11:54:24 PM
I asked becuase you're posts are more like trolls;  "EDIT: And that you'd have to dig for full patch notes is pretty indicative of a communication problem, no? " than a discussion.

Doesnt upset me at all.  I think you are a customer that will never be satisfied by anything any company would do.
1260  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Just cancelled my WoW account. on: February 23, 2005, 11:28:30 PM
L/E since you quit the game why are you still posting in this thread?

Go and play Lineage 2.
1261  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Loot Rules on: February 07, 2005, 02:18:32 PM
Group loot is not free for all.  The only thing that everyone can loot is the coins.  The items rotate like round robin.
1262  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Lineage players be nice to your girlfriends! on: February 04, 2005, 04:23:21 PM
I agree that its a bit silly to have some one arrested for deleting a game character or items belonging to a character.  You should also look at it from the pont of view that some one else proposed.  At what point does the deletion of virtual material cause harm?

If roommates share a PC and one deletes the others term paper what then?  There is definitely harm and distress there.

Can you define the attachment the player had to the character and items.  The es-girlfreind knew what she was doing and intentionally acted with malice in mind.

Because people stop posting it doesnt mean you won, perhaps you just wore them down.
1263  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Lineage players be nice to your girlfriends! on: February 02, 2005, 09:38:11 PM
You're baseball analogy is wrong anyway.  He took HIS ball and went home, his own property after being injured by being hit in the head.
1264  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / MX1000 mouse question on: January 25, 2005, 12:10:49 AM
I bought it from newegg for $62 to replace my MX700.  I do like it.  It is a bit different in some aspects.  The default setup for the buttons and controls is definitely different.  Stays charged for a very long time with the auto off function and this has had no impact at all in gaming (there is no lag for it to turn on etc).  Took a day or two to get used to the change in buttons but it was no big deal, took me as long to get used to the MX700 over my standard mouse.
1265  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Strange problem... PSU, video card (6600 gt), or heat? on: January 10, 2005, 05:13:50 PM
I had this very same issue when I had a TI4200 installed.  My monitor would go black the powersave light would come on and I would have to hard reboot the PC.  I replaced the video card with a Radeon 9600 and problem went away.

Recently I bought the Albatron 6600GT AGP card from newegg and the problem came right back.  I also noticed a sound stutter at the time of lockup.  I removed my sound card (turtle beach santa cruz) and the problem went away.  I am now using the built in sound on the motherboard (realtek).

After a day and a half of use the 6600 GT card started showing issues clipping, 3-5 second lockups and purple/green bars woudl show in the terrain in WoW.  I RMA'd the card back to newegg and got a refund.

I think there is an issue with Turtle Beach sound cards and possibly the Nvidia drivers si the only thing I can think of.  I was running the latest drivers on both sound and video and no overclocking anything.

1266  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW: enchanting? on: December 20, 2004, 09:29:41 PM
Enchanting is a huge suck hole of resources.  You can do some nice stuff with it.  I have a mage that has tailoring and enchanting.  You can make items right away with tailoring that you can use.  With enchanting you can make them a bit better.  In order to get what you need to enchant items you have to disenchat or break green, blue or god forbid purple items.  You would normally be selling these for money so if you dont have a gruildor group of people to supply you with items to break this can really impact your finances.

Enchanting doesnt really have skill that supports it.  Tailoring is in the same boat although some tailoring items require leather so you could take skinning to get it.  Like mining supports smithing and engineering, skinning supports leatherworking, herbalism supports alchemy.

1268  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Anyone try the new logitech mx1000 wireless mouse? on: December 18, 2004, 03:00:15 PM
I current use the MX700 and got the bug to spend some cash so I bought the MX1000 from Newegg for $62 yesterday.  Hopefully it will show up on Monday.

1269  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Can you be on a 56k modem and still have your phone free? on: December 18, 2004, 02:58:59 PM
I talked with someone that used one of those things and he said you could answer the phone and see if it was a call you wanted to take.  If you hung up quick enough you would not get dicsonnected but if you stayed on the phone you lost the internet conenction.

1271  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW and thier idiot quest programmer on: December 17, 2004, 10:47:42 PM
he did miss quests, there are quests that ask you to go to Loch modan for a delivery from the human lands.  Its pretty easy to fidn somewhere to go and some thing to do in WoW.  You must not be looking very hard if you cant find any quests.

1274  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [WoW AAR] They said it couldn't be done... on: December 10, 2004, 04:14:02 AM
They toned the deadmines down a bit.  During beta most everything in there was elite.  It was definitely a rough place to go through.  YOu would see multiple groups of 5 going through areas together and if one group fell the second once close behind.

1275  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WOW - Can you get there from here??? on: December 10, 2004, 04:09:37 AM
You fly over a gnomish airfield.  During the beta I think people tried but never were able to get to it.

yes you will.  The horde and alliance mix in many areas like booty bay and ratchet.  I havent played since beta there is a town south of the shimmering flats that is neutral as well.  There are ares with town for both sides etc so you will see plenty fo the other sides areas.

1279  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / World Of Warcraft to debut week after HL2? on: October 27, 2004, 09:16:14 PM
Falatar read a little higher the game is fun to play.  It will be ready when they want to release it.

Where is the fun in ganking someone for no reason?  The PvP actions I have seen  by players is the usual take a bunch of maxed out players and attack a small town where the NPC's and players are too low of a level to have any chance.  Thats how PvP has worked so far from what I have seen.  Since there is no reward at all, why even bother?

1280  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / World Of Warcraft to debut week after HL2? on: October 27, 2004, 08:08:26 PM
Olaf get the chip off your shoulder and reread my post I dont give a darn about PvP as I have no intention of playing that way.  PvP has absolutely no reward at all right now, you get no experience nor do you get a monetary reward so its really a waste of time.  In that regard I dont care if they balance PvP I dont think most players want to play that way anyhow.
