1161  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / I'm thinking about buying this rig. Am I a complete idiot? on: October 20, 2005, 11:53:04 AM
The initial price doesn't include a monitor, so with your upgrades you do realize you are not getting a monitor.  So yeah I wold go with the its expensive for what you are getting.  You can get a system without the dual video card's that will run anything out there very well for less money.

Ultimately its your money if you are happy with that big of an outlay of cash for it then go for it.
1162  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [parenting] MY SON WILL NOT GO TO SLEEP on: October 19, 2005, 04:55:56 PM
You need to stick to what you did the previous night.  Unfortunately by trying to do what you thought was the right thing by comforting him you setup a bad habit of him expecting you to be there all the time when he cries.  Luckily at this age they adjust pretty darn fast and you most likely will have a few days of "hell" to go through.  One of our best investments was a wireless camera with a tv monitor, we used this to make sure our son was alright before ever going into the room or even opening the door.

My son is five and my wife and I both check on him at night.  I make sure he is covered up and if he is I always wait until I hear him breathing before I leave the room, just to make sure. (yes I know he is fine).  We parents certainly are an odd bunch.

Ooh. I haven't heard that epithet since, oh, before you were born...

Since I was born in 1967 I really doubt it.

1165  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Sidekick 2 and LG VX9800 on: October 13, 2005, 05:22:21 PM
I like the look of the VX9800 with the phone being on the outside and then you open it to get to the keyboard and screen.
1166  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / SWG: Trials of Obi-Wan on: October 13, 2005, 05:19:55 PM
I ran into Darth Vader outside the Theed starport one day.  He was giving out Imperial missions and if a player went up and did an emote like poke or slap he would force choke them.  I thought that was kind of cool, I guess he could have outright killed them but that would have been a bit harsh (it would have been more true to the character though).
1167  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / SWG: Trials of Obi-Wan on: October 13, 2005, 01:25:55 PM
They way you wrote it and the comments placed after the features you selected certainly seemed like a troll to me.  You certainly seemed to make very pointed comments that it is what you would consider to be crap.

As far as WoW no particular reason for me mentioning it.
1168  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / SWG: Trials of Obi-Wan on: October 13, 2005, 12:08:25 PM
The initial post seems to be little more than a troll.

I play SWG and have fun doing so.  I got bored with WoW after playing through closed beta and then afte the game went live.  I have talked with a few players that are in the beta test for TOW and they are enjoying it.  There are new missions to do on the new planet and some more missions in space as well.

If you dont like it dont buy it.

1169  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Okay, it's time! Your favorite Calvin pic/ cartoon... on: October 08, 2005, 01:31:20 PM
I have an entire power point slideshow of calvin cartoons that deal with snow.  it is very funny, sometimes I put it up when I am waiting for people to be ready for the regular meeting; it is alway sgood for a giggle or two.

1171  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Star Wars: Battlefront II beta on: September 18, 2005, 05:52:10 PM
BTW, Crawley, you may want to re-read what you clicked OK to when you first installed the beta, this one does in fact have a NDA since it's still a closed beta technically.

Why do you even need to point that out?  Its a beta through fileplanet for christ sakes.  Would sure be pretty silly to try and enforce that agreement but what htey heck some people jsut hve to point the little shit out.
1172  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Online Poker on: September 15, 2005, 04:45:19 PM
I do not know which one is best but they all pretty much have a "free" mode you can play to learn with out any investment of real money.

1174  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / MS Antispyware Beta? on: September 09, 2005, 10:10:16 PM
I have it on all 3 desktops at my house.  It has prevented Trojan programs on my wife's PC many times.

I do not understand how I can keep telling her there is nothing that is truly free on the net and she just doesn't get it.
1175  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Need a Low Level Format Utility on: September 08, 2005, 04:54:49 PM
Did this logical partition just "pop" up or was this drive partitioned?  If it was partition what was installed into the second partition?  If it was formatted into a type the BIOS cannot read then I could see this happening.
1176  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Need a Low Level Format Utility on: September 08, 2005, 12:10:15 PM
A true low level format is only done at the time of manufacture.

It would help to know more about the problem, it would seem that you may have a virus or that the drive has tanked.

Drive vendors do offer utilities that iwll re-iniitialize the drive and this would be your best bet if you have tried to fix the MBR and Fdisk it.
1177  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Internet Money Making Schemes- updated with pic of check!!!! on: August 24, 2005, 12:58:44 PM
Eco maybe you can answer this questions.

Any money paid to them to upgrade the account is kept as a memberhsip fee so to speak.  The upgrades expire and have to be renewed as well.

How often do the upgrades expire?  I cannot find this information in the FAQ.

For instance you have been upgraded to the $1000 level so you have to surf less sites to earn the 1% payback a day.  When does your $1000 upgrade expire?  With the earnings at 1% it will take a bit over 3 months to earn what you invested just to be able to maintain the account level.
1178  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Internet Money Making Schemes- updated with pic of check!!!! on: August 23, 2005, 07:09:58 PM
sounds like what they are really doing is paying 1% interest per month on your money.  They add in the requirement of surfing the net with the ad's to generate revenue for themselves then use that to pay the users.  They also have the users money in an account and can most likely use that on investments etc. to generate more income.

I have heard of these before and I guy I worked with (who is into money for nothing schemes) had one installed on his PC, he used a mouse trembler program to make it look like he was always at the keyboard.  I have no idea if he actually got any money from it or not.

What is the name of the company?
1179  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hotter.....UPS girl or Bikini girl on: August 23, 2005, 12:12:18 PM
The UPS girl.

Checked out bikini girl in the link and she looks a bit like Phoebe Cates when she did Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Dude thats my skull), which immediately brought back the vision of the pool scene (is there an unoccupied bathroom nearby?).

1181  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Care to answer some questions about WOW for me? on: July 27, 2005, 08:19:47 PM
Group size is five.

You can put together a raid group but that is mostly for high level instances and puts damper on the experience quite a bit.  Lot of the raids in high end are max level so the EXP hit is a non-issue.
1182  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Car Nav Systems on: July 26, 2005, 06:31:16 PM
A friend of mine has a BMW 740IL 2000 model with built in navigation and it is cool as all get out.  Has the cool factor and its very helpful, you can program it to remember certain places or even find things like nearest golf course (it is a 740IL) or hospital.

1184  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / New Jersey to try to ban smoking while driving on: July 25, 2005, 11:15:02 PM
It is not about what you think or what you feel is right.  It is about where does government legislation end and a persons rights begin.  Keep giving up you're rights and soon enough you wont have any.
1185  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / New Jersey to try to ban smoking while driving on: July 25, 2005, 10:20:58 PM
Ok Dafones.  So lets see you shouldn't drink a soda or coffee while driving, you shouldn't eat while driving and maybe you shouldn't even hold a conversation while driving so you can put a full 100% of your attention on driving.  Whats after smoking? lets see take the radio out of the vehicle, listening is distracting.

Where do my rights end?  Shall we legislate so that a person cannot smoke in his/her house?

Maybe the government can tell us what we should be doing at any moment in the day so that way we can keep everyone else safe and not hurt anyone elses feelings.  We will be supplied a government approved schedule for every day of our life, cause they must know better.
1186  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / New Jersey to try to ban smoking while driving on: July 25, 2005, 12:42:58 PM

First they complain about cell phones and now smoking.  I find it funny since some studies found that tuning the radio is more distracting than talking on the phone.

Where the heck do we end this kind of crap?

No I am not a smoker (unless I am on fire) and I live in Georgia, so this doesn't affect me.
1187  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Just made a bid on a house! on: July 25, 2005, 11:25:36 AM
Be patient.  The only thing worse than trying to buy a home is being the seller.  Try to find out how long it has been listed.  If it has been up for a while dont worry, wait a month then come back with another offer.

If not well there are other houses.
1188  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / CAT5 vs CAT6, braided vs. solid wiring on: July 21, 2005, 07:56:47 PM
check I have seen 1000 foot rolls that come with ends and crimpers for like $49.99 + shipping which if I remember was reasonable.

I just checked and they have a network kit of 1000 feet Cat5e with ends and crimpers for $39.99 + shipping.
1189  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / CAT5 vs CAT6, braided vs. solid wiring on: July 20, 2005, 11:57:01 PM
Go with Cat-5 unless you can find somewhere to get Cat-6 as cheap.  The extra bandwidth is a moot point unless you intend to do lots of large file transfers.
1190  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Data Recovery or Bend Over Please on: July 20, 2005, 04:47:04 PM
If that data is not static but time sensitive then give it up.  Look at the time and expense it will take to recover the data and will it still be useful after that.
1191  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hybrid car info on: July 19, 2005, 01:04:56 PM
Did you take one for a test drive?
1192  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hybrid car info on: July 19, 2005, 12:14:11 AM
There was a discussion going on about the Prius.  Anyway in my Science 204 class at DeVry I need to write a paper and am working on hybrids.  Anyone own a hybrid or have experience with one?  I would like to hear it.

What was your overall experience?

What did you particularly like about the vehicle?

What were the negatives of the vehicle?

After the experience what was your overall take on hybrids and the technology behind it?

Things like that I would like to know.  Post here or e-mail me.

Some places put a limit like you must 8 dead pixel's or more before they will exchange it.
1196  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / I bought SWG...again on: June 17, 2005, 06:13:12 PM
I would be interested in hearing what the game is like now as well.  You can get a package with all the expansions for liek $24.99 I think at BestBuy.  A buddy of mine is playing it again and says it is fun to play, he ahs only just started again and has all the expansions.

Apparently you are issued some sort of ship and vehicles to travel with now.
1197  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / My PC goes to hell (help!) on: June 14, 2005, 04:33:09 PM
Go to system properties and look under the startup and recovery tab.  The default is to automatically restart the PC if there is a "system failure".  Uncheck that box.  The program you are running might be crashing for some reason and its seen as a failure and causes the system to reboot.  With that unchecked you may crash the program but it will give you an idea of the program or perhaps you will get a message that will point you in the right direction.

I turn this off on every computer I use or setup for myself.  I haven't had any ill effects from doing so.

Warlocks get the Felsteed which they summon to them.  I do not know if there is a cost since I have not played a Warlock up to 50 but everyone has todl me they are free, you do a quest or something.
1199  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW newbie on: June 13, 2005, 10:49:48 PM
The trick with a warlock is that they have no root spells.  If something gets past the pet then its usually time to run.  The voidwalker is definitely you're best buddy when you get him for a long time.

Warlocks also get a "free" mount like the pally
