Presuming I know what everyone's talking about , it's also hinted at (although the final act itself is not shown) in the teaser trailer for Episode 3. i've watched the Episode 3 trailer several times now, and i'm fairly certain that the spoiler we're talking about here isn't suggested in any way. like others have said though, it's something that's not all that surprising.

just got back from the theater...absolutely great movie! it definitely has a different tone than anything Pixar has done in the past and targets an older audience, but they've done it perfectly yet again. i'll continue to stand by my opinion that the geniuses at Pixar can do no wrong. even if you're not a fan of animation or Pixar's earlier films, i still recommend going to see The Incredibles...you won't be disappointed

i finished that mission using the mouse and keyboard without too much trouble...it is very possible. i just ignored the guys for the most part and focused on getting the targets as quickly as possible. if a guy got too close, i just bumped him with the chopper and didn't have to worry about him anymore. it did take a few tries, but it's not bad once you get the hang of controlling the helicopter.

Holy crap...
If you do not want a pretty heavy spoiler, do NOT watch that trailer. It gave away something I suspected, but to have it confirmed was both cool and a slight bummer. But that game looks monumentally kick ass, and if The Collective are the ones behind it then I'm there. i noticed that pretty significant scene too...although i figured it was coming anyway. looks like a game with the potential to be pretty cool though.

i gave the demo a try this afternoon and have to admit that i'm pretty impressed. the graphics and physics are extremely well done, and the racing is a lot of fun. although it's far from a realistic racer, the physics do add a different feel to the game that works pretty well. there were a few times where i hit small bumps that sent my car flipping through the air, but those were rare. i'll be keeping an eye on the final game once it hits the shelves

Curse you West Coast!! indeed it is...if you were there right before you posted, it was a little after 2am for those of us in the east. i have been known to play that late on a weekend, but it doesn't usually happen during the week. ...and don't ask why i'm still up now...

I'm d/l everything right now so I can maybe play once in a while. I may need a bigger hdd when this is all said and done. no kidding...my UT2K4 install is up to about 8GB now. i'm still enjoying the game enough that it's all worth it though. just makes me glad i went with that 160GB HDD when i built my rig. i just keep installing games without having to worry about taking anything off...and the result is a partition with 35GB of gaming goodness right now

there seems to be 2 links for the community bonus packs, the first being the link you have that says "community bonus pack 2 volume 1 and 2 and the other a link that says cbp1. is those the same mod or do i need them both? also the "community bonus pack 2 vol. 1 and 2" link takes me to just 1 single download, is that correct? is vol. 1 and 2 together in the same download? i guess this can be a little confusing, so i'll try to make some sense out of it all... Community Bonus Pack 2 was released a few months back in two "Volumes" and consists of all-new maps for UT2K4...you have to download both Vol 1 and Vol 2 to have all of CBP2 (two large, separate files). Community Bonus Pack 1 was originally created for UT2K3, but a version modified for UT2K4 was recently made available. we now have both CBP1 and both volumes of CBP2 installed on the server. the thing that confuses this issue now is that they've changed the site that the CBP2 link goes to...it now goes to an overall site for both CBP2 and CBP1, so we'll have to get zaxxon to fix the link. here are the new links to download pages for all the CBP content... Community Bonus Pack 1Community Bonus Pack 2 - Volumes 1 & 2both of those links provide multiple mirror for the content, so you should be able to find one that gives a good d/l speed. now we just need for zaxxon to fix the links in the first post

i'm not an avid keyboard shopper, and have never really cared for the "Natural" layout, but $25 from Newegg (s/h included) seems like a decent deal. that's for the plain Natural keyboard without any extra buttons...they also have the 'Multimedia' version for a few dollars more.

ok guys i think i'm gonna grab a copy of the collectors edition in a few days and join you. am i correct in that all i have to do is use those links you got in the first post and download them to be updated for the server? if so, i'll holler when i pick a copy up and i'm ready to play. that is correct! because you're picking up the ECE at the store, you won't need to download the ECE Bonus Pack (you'll already have it), but you will need to get the rest of the maps. it all adds up to a pretty hefty set of downloads, but it's well worth it in the end. i think i speak for everyone when i say we always look forward to new blood on the server

Also the company's grasp of English is pretty bad. Hurts to read the text lol. i haven't tried the demo yet, but i noticed this just looking at screenshots for the game. i really hope they hire an editor before the final release...in my opinion, bad grammar can really kill a game like this...

The fact that diablo w was before baldurs gate on that list and you are ok with it has just damned you to rpghell also! Preprare to spend an eternity playing final fantasy clones! for the record...i've never been able to get into the Diablo games at all, while BG (and every other Infinity engine game) are some of my favorites. i'd rather spend an eternity pulling out my own toenails and using the pieces to gouge out my eyes than miss out on games like BG in favor of playing poor FF clones forever. BG will get it's chance in the other side of the brackets soon... and my picks for this round... Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Turtle Beach sound cards
|
on: October 22, 2004, 05:30:16 AM
|
the benefits aren't limited to someone with a surround system though. like jessie said, EAX adds environmental effects to sounds...things like reverb, echoes, dampening of sounds that you're hearing through walls/objects. it's really kind of hard to describe without hearing it for yourself, but it really does make a big difference...and each new version of EAX has made everything sound a little more realistic. if you don't have a surround sound system, you still get many of the EAX benefits...and you would be surprised how well some games are able to mimic surround using only 2 speakers now. it's all pretty impressive and developers are getting better at taking advantage of the abilities all the time. when i got my new pc about a year ago, i made the switch from an old SBLive! to an Audigy2-ZS, and the difference is amazing...way more than i expected as for cost, you can pick up an Audigy2 for about $70 at Newegg...or you can get the Audigy2-ZS for $92. the most obvious difference between the two is 7.1 channel surround support with the ZS (only 6.1 with the regular Audigy2)...not an issue if you don't have a surround setup. it really is a great card though, and i do think you'd notice an improvement over your old TB-SC...even without a surround setup. maybe someone else who has made the change will jump in and back me up...

the Audigy2 is a great card...regardless of what people may say based on older products. i've been using an Audigy2-ZS for about 10 months and it's been absolutely perfect...no driver/software issues, and the sound is incredible. the SC may have sounded good a few years ago, but there's really no comparison to hearing the latest games with EAX 4.0HD on a nice surround system...

I notice a couple of you have the Antec Sonata Case. I really like the look of that case and am thinking of getting one. Are they as quiet as Antec claims? I don't know what your threshold but its pretty damn quiet in my opinion. Sitting here now, with no noise in the background and the house completely quiet and I can *barely* hear it and that's when I'm trying to. Great case. i'll second this opinion...the Sonata is very quiet, is built extremely well, and looks great. the only audible noise coming from my Sonata is the soft sound of the stock Intel HSF on my cpu...replace that, and i'd have a near-silent system (not far off now). i've had my Sonata for about 10 months now and would recommend it to anyone

for the record...i started with the list that crumsteel just posted and made a few corrections. for example, "Map Pack 1" and "Map Pack 2" refer to "Community Bonus Pack 2, Vol 1 & 2," and all of those 1on1 maps make up the "DM-1on1 Map Pack." the map names on that list aren't exact either, so i tracked down the right ones and included the links. the only one i didn't link was the ECE pack because it's a large file that's easy to find...use whatever link gives you the fastest download what i'm trying to say is that everything in my list and crumsteel's are essentially the same...i just used some more accurate names in mine. it's all the same stuff though (plus i added the WinXP maps)

So, does your BB have any video store competition disarm or is my theory completely off the rocker? i live in a pretty densely populated area right along a strip of shops and restaurants, so there is some competition. within 5-10 minutes drive of my apartment, i think there are 2 BBs, one Hollywood Video, and a couple Family Video stores. the BB stores might be trying to compete with FV...i've never been there, but i think they do have pretty low rental rates. i know that HV still charges about $3-4 for a rental. i guess that could be enough competition to drive rates down...
