i felt a bit better, but i still don't see that questionable Mastercard.   the Wu-Yi people told me that the MC in question was charged $4.95.   there is no CC with a $4.95 charge on my credit report.   what gives?

I wouldn't put too much stock in what the phoney diet tea people told you.  Despite the nice customer service rep, it's possible they were basically trying to send you crap you didn't order in the hopes that you would eventually start paying for it.  Or maybe someone involved with the company has a sales quota or works on commission or something.  They could've got your email and address from a number of sources.

Type "Wu Yi" into Google's search box and see how fast the word "Scam" comes up.

There is actually a whole series of scam sites out there (many are supposed to be on-line ad agencies) that exist for the sole purpose of money laundering.  They take credit cards from people and charge little amounts at first to see which work.  Then they go and buy up lots of different things using the purchases to grab referral money.  I wouldn't doubt that Wu Yi is being used as part of the whole business.  The thief could use a card to buy products and send them to random addresses from a stolen list putting a temporary or compromised bank account as the referrer.  He/She/It grabs the cash (which from some products, such as porn sites can be 50-75% of the sale price) from the sales and shuttles the money off somewhere else.  The company that sold the products can then just claim that they are a victim as well, all while receiving kick-backs from the thieves.
82  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: What's Merc 2's coop like? Any good? on: February 15, 2009, 12:16:54 AM
Like Saint's Row, you can play the entire game through in co-op.  There is a distance limit though, so you do need to stay within fairly large but still limited distance from each other.  You can play out the entire single player story in co-op and both players can get all the achievements that way, but only the inviting player's /world/campaign/faction standings are saved.  The invited player only gets their money saved.

That said, playing co-op is awesome, especially when you get far enough along to get the big stuff.

Fratellis are great, though with no 360 until I get mine repaired, no DLC for me. frown

You could still buy the DLC from the website and have it waiting in your queue when you get your new system and log in.  slywink

You can still get a box sent out to you if you do the warranty request online.  It is a smaller option kind of hidden at the bottom on the page.  They really seem to want you to use your own box now.  I just did mine three days ago and I got the empty box in the mail yesterday and sent it back the same day.

I have made it through a solo section already, and I hope that there are very few of them. Considering that commanding the teams is the strong point of the series, I don't know why they would want those section in...they feel out of place.

There are actually quite a few of them about 5-6 maybe, but most are fairly short; one is quite long.  Mainly, solo house clearing.  There are, of course, the obligatory tank command section that are always a pain and those are played by yourself as well.

The game itself I thought was about probably about 14-15 (+/-2) hours long depending on how long you want to search for the secrets.
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: BIA Hell's Highway Impressions on: September 30, 2008, 03:38:10 AM
I finished the game over the weekend.  The single-player was excellent and the story line was great.  The graphics were not super but okay; there was a bit of draw-in and texture-shifting with my 360 version on my 1080p set.  If you like WWII games, then you will definitely like this game.  The story line in the game is nice because unlike call of duty or medal of honor, its told entirely on a personal/squad level with the larger battle just playing context for interpersonal struggles.  You get the overall story line from a series of recon opportunities that are scattered across the maps.

The game can be pretty visceral.  Women and children get killed and enemy bodies (and their various parts) can be seen flying around the battlefield during a fight.  Your teammates cannot die during a battle, although they can get knocked out.

I did have a few issues with the cover system.  You can be behind cover, but you will get killed unless you "dig-in" by hitting the LB button, even if no one is shooting at you directly.  It doesn't really matter which gun you use, either.  Except for the sniper rifle, that gun is a beast.  The game is fairly well-balanced through-out, although there are some points that are tough.  Especially if you are playing at veteran or above.  (The casual rating would be a "normal" setting on any other game).

I had a few complaints about the pathfinding AI.  Only certain specific obstacles are able to be vaulted over.  One fence (or a part of a fence) may be okay, but the one next to it may not be.  (The same thing can be said about cover).  I think that this can confuse your teammates AI and I had several times where the computer would take off running right out in front of machine-gun fire or through a house full of enemies, even though I told them to just take cover a few feet to their side.  You don't really need your teammates, so its not as big a problem as it would seem.  They are mostly there just to keep groups of enemies from shooting at you continously.

Overall, I thought the game was very good.  I'm going to try the multiplayer out once xbox live comes back up.  I don't know how long that will last though with only 6 maps.

How far along are you?  I gave up on my zerker in the middle of Ice Forest, after one of those insane mob groupings that resulted in zerker insta-death (missile guys knocked me down, where I proceeded to get pounded to pieces).

A lot of fun playing him, though.  I'm basically now saving him for multiplayer.

I was okay with the berserker up until the end of Act 3.  Attacking specific locations with melee attacks ends up just being frustrating.  The AI seems to be too dumb to figure out where you want to attack.  And the camera does not want to seem to cooperate at all when you are trying to use fierce attacks.

There just seems to be an overall lack of balance across the game.  From the random health drops (at least they should have let people store a certain amount up) to the last mini-boss just before the end of the game.  Having to target attack using only ranged attacks against a boss that has a ton of health with the berserker is torture.  That said, the final boss was a cake-walk with strong melee (I would hate to play the commando in that situation).

If you wanted to go all out with the Ion drum set, you could buy the Alesis DM5 drum module (~200-300 used, ~350 new) to turn the set into a real kit and then run the midi out to the GH drum kit and be able to use the 5 button setup on the Ion set.

Of course to do that, you would need to have the GH drum set, which would kind of beat the point of having the Ion drums in the first place.

'Battery' should be a darn tough total band song.

There hasn't been any word.  I think the odds are overwhelmingly against GH compatibility, but I think there is a small chance.

IGN and some other sites reported from e3 that all of the rock band instruments will work in GH4.  Activision even went as far as to hot patch rock band guitar compatibility into GH:Aerosmith this week.  The GH4 drum does have an additional button, but I believe that Activision said that the drum chart will be compressed to four buttons (plus kick) if a rock band (or Ion) drum set it detected.  Also if you have a real electronic drum set (or an instrument that supports midi output) you can hook that up to the midi input on the GH4 drum set and play with that instead.

To be fair though, the alternate take of Working Man is a version that has not been heard before, so I'm sure that Rush (or whoever owns the right to the master)  made them charge for that.  It supposedly has an entirely different solo than the one that made it on the disc.  I'm guessing that they found a working alternate master that they could get rights to after they had already contracted the studio band to record the album version.

This is part of the reason why I like taking the train.  It does take longer to get somewhere, but you pay 1/5 as much, you get huge seats and you can carry 5 bags with no extra charge.  So, it might not be the best way to travel for business, but it is great for vacations.  Plus, there is no silly security line with power-tripping TSA idiots.

Anyway, I'm Zutrik on the PVP server we're on, Dark Elf Assassin.

I forgot about that. I've heard good things with it, actually.

The beta launcher is great.  It even has a friends feature that tells if anyone from any of your friends list is in-game at the moment and lets you chat with them.  The only problem I still have with the patcher process is that EQ2 still requires a pretty long file scan before it lets you play.  You would think they would have implemented some kind of simple file database or list that could be checked instead.

A little embarrassed to say this, but how do you do invite someone into a group? I've always just asked then stood around till someone invited me.

I think you can right click on their name in the chat window and it pulls up a drop down window with the option.

You can also click on them and then type /invite in the chat window.

I'm a little concerned about the "new original recording" aspect, though.

I am guessing that several factors are behind it.  The first being that 1960s - 70s individual track masters are often lost or in really bad shape.  His original songs were also heavily edited to make them radio friendly and he often plays more verses in concert.  So, he probably wanted to put the full concert songs in the game.  Both would mean they would need to do a cover of the songs.

Apparently though, he is a huge fan of Rock Band, so he was willing to do the cover versions of the songs himself.
118  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Age of Conan - All Your Questions Are Belong to Us! on: May 20, 2008, 10:21:48 PM
As far as feats go, you should end up with 79 total points. You get an extra bonus point every 10 levels.

There is a calculator here:

It also lists the level rules for the feat tiers:

Each feat tier (each row is a tier) requires a certain amount of points invested in previous tiers. There are a total of 9 tiers for every class, and we start counting at Tier 9. It is a simple calculation to determine how many points you must have invested, it is: 5 * (tier - 1). For example, barring any other requirements, putting points in the final tier, Tier 9, requires 40 points (5 * (9-1) = 40) invested in any of the previous tiers.

Each tier (except for the first two) have a level requirement. Starting at Tier 3, every tier after that requires a level multiple of 10. The calculation is again simple: 10 * (tier - 2). So again, as an example, to put points in Tier 8, the second-to-last tier, we must be level 60 (10 * (8 - 2) = 60).

Any given feat may require points in another feat. You will notice these requirements by the red lines connecting the feats, as well as in the tooltip. Again, these requirements are indentical to those in-game.
