Yes...it was great.  And this is coming from a Jeremy Brett fan.  I give major props to Jude Law for the great job he does as Watson.

While it does have a bit of comedy + James Bondish action thrown in, it is still at the core a Holmes mystery (with violin to boot) and a pretty good one at that.  The ending is a bit anti-climatic, but it does a good job of setting-up a series.

I just got back and it is very awesome!  Definitely succeeds as a full-on comedy and the violence is over-the-top with a ton of stage blood.  It is actually less a zombie-movie and way more a survivors-relationship movie.

There are a couple of open-source/free programs that work similar to 3ds max and others.

Blender (http://www.blender.org/) is probably the closest to 3ds max and the most feature-packed.  Overall, I think it has a better modeling system than 3ds max, but 3ds does have more advanced rendering.  It is pretty easy to learn as well. If you are wondering about what it can do, here is a short film made entirely in Blender called Big Buck Bunny (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE7VzlLtp-4).

Sketchup (http://sketchup.google.com/) is good for buildings/models and lets you import them/spatially reference them in Google Earth.

Geist3D (http://www.geist3d.org/download) is good for terrain and models.

OpenFX (http://www.openfx.org/) and Art of Illusion (http://www.artofillusion.org/) are great for raytracing and rendering.

Seamless3D (http://www.seamless3d.com/) is used for modeling is pretty simple compared to Blender.

did it really last for an hour?...felt a lot shorter

EDIT:actually do you guys have commercials during Family Guy?...Family Guy is on BBC3 here,so no commercials so that might be why it felt less than an hour

The whole thing is about 48 minutes total without commericals, but on TV is ran as 2 30-minute episodes with commericals.

I'm holding off.  You do know that the main storyline can't be played in co-op yes (at least, that's what I've been hearing).  I think there's some kind of co-op missions, but it's not the main storyline that can be co-opped.

It supposedly has 2 types of co-op missions.  One is a horde mode like in Gears of War 2, and the other is played with a persistent character that you complete different types of missions with and use your earnings to buy equipment and the like.  There isn't much information on either yet.

Is her magic staff skill high enough level to wield the staff without penalties?

Not a huge deal.  But the third DLC just came out today and its free.

Of course it could also be level limited... not sure.

The manual says that it requires level 60 to start gold and you have to have beaten the Silver campaign.

Platinum requires 100 and you need to beat the gold campaign.

Niob is 140 and have beaten platinum.

Once you have completed the game, you will get some vehicles and weapons that make the activities a lot easier.  You should try completing it through the epilogue first.  Also, try some of the missions co-op; you get full credit for it, the activities take about 1/2 the time and 1/4 the effort and you will have to do it anyways if you want the full 1000 achievement points.

As for mayhem, you might not have noticed that you have unlimited rockets for the duration of the activity.  You just need to find a place with a lot of small things to blow-up and you should be able to get some insane scores.

you can also download the a cd image from the xbox.com website, burn it and it will download all the current compatibility patches onto your xbox.
61  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saints Row 2 on: April 24, 2009, 01:07:33 AM
The new vehicles you get in your garage right away.  The clothes you can buy when ever you want.  You will have to play the game all the way to the end in order to get the new missions.  There are some multiplayer maps, too, but I haven't tried those.

There are 3 new missions in the DLC, they are pretty well done, but it goes by really fast.  I beat them in about an hour.  Tera Patrick as a homie is cool.

The cool part of the new DLC is the new coop mode.  Competitive coop is great; it plays like normal coop, but adds in a high score mechanism.  If you like to play it coop, this is a great download.  If you want it just for the new missions, I would probably recommend against it.

It seems like the humvee is a scout vehicle from the new red faction game (which volition is also making).  It has a missile launcher on top that fires as fast as you can pull the trigger.   I finally got to use the three-wheeler.  It works just like a motorcycle, only its a lot more stable.  The new vulture helicopter is basically the same as the medical copter but it has missiles and a minigun.  Overall, the new vehicles are great.

I also liked the play on the GTA 4 DLC with the new motorcycle gang that is all over the city.

The new vehicles are great.  So far, I've tried out the gun-mounted humvee, the racing car and the A-10.  The A-10 is basically the jet version of the attack helicopter.  I tried to ride the three wheeler, but my character wouldn't get on it for some reason.  I haven't tried the missions or the new clothes yet, so I can't comment on them.

I didn't notice anything that different, but it did seem to me like the police might be a little more aggressive than before.

Didn't Atlus already do that with Persona 4?  icon_wink

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean, lol, since I got on the Persona 4 bandwagon late, so it was a basic Amazon order.  GT'ers suggested I go with P3 before P4, so I played P3 first.  I liked it a ton, and didn't want to spoil the P4 experience by playing them back to back.  I started another replay of Morrowind, then bought 3 DS games, then... well all of you with backlogs know what I mean, I'm sure.   retard

I was referring to the Social Link Expansion Pack for P4 which to me fell squarely into the "all this cool stuff and no game" camp.  icon_lol

Yikes! I had no idea that even existed, that is unbelievable - $168 (plus shipping, no Super Saver Shipping option) - and no game, wow.  I haven't played it yet, but I ordered it several months ago, maybe the super deluxe spiffy Expansion Pack wasn't available then.  I know I wouldn't have ordered it by mistake because of that price though.  That is just Crazy!  icon_eek

On the Ghostbusters topic, I think I'd prefer the more realistic one, but I'm not a big fan of G-Busters, so probably will pass on both anyway.

It wasn't $168 when it first came out, it was $29.99.  The reason the price is so high now, it that it was Amazon.com exclusive and very limited on top of that.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what the phoney diet tea people told you.  Despite the nice customer service rep, it's possible they were basically trying to send you crap you didn't order in the hopes that you would eventually start paying for it.  Or maybe someone involved with the company has a sales quota or works on commission or something.  They could've got your email and address from a number of sources.

Type "Wu Yi" into Google's search box and see how fast the word "Scam" comes up.

There is actually a whole series of scam sites out there (many are supposed to be on-line ad agencies) that exist for the sole purpose of money laundering.  They take credit cards from people and charge little amounts at first to see which work.  Then they go and buy up lots of different things using the purchases to grab referral money.  I wouldn't doubt that Wu Yi is being used as part of the whole business.  The thief could use a card to buy products and send them to random addresses from a stolen list putting a temporary or compromised bank account as the referrer.  He/She/It grabs the cash (which from some products, such as porn sites can be 50-75% of the sale price) from the sales and shuttles the money off somewhere else.  The company that sold the products can then just claim that they are a victim as well, all while receiving kick-backs from the thieves.

Like Saint's Row, you can play the entire game through in co-op.  There is a distance limit though, so you do need to stay within fairly large but still limited distance from each other.  You can play out the entire single player story in co-op and both players can get all the achievements that way, but only the inviting player's /world/campaign/faction standings are saved.  The invited player only gets their money saved.

That said, playing co-op is awesome, especially when you get far enough along to get the big stuff.

I have made it through a solo section already, and I hope that there are very few of them. Considering that commanding the teams is the strong point of the series, I don't know why they would want those section in...they feel out of place.

There are actually quite a few of them about 5-6 maybe, but most are fairly short; one is quite long.  Mainly, solo house clearing.  There are, of course, the obligatory tank command section that are always a pain and those are played by yourself as well.

The game itself I thought was about probably about 14-15 (+/-2) hours long depending on how long you want to search for the secrets.
75  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: BIA Hell's Highway Impressions on: September 30, 2008, 03:38:10 AM
I finished the game over the weekend.  The single-player was excellent and the story line was great.  The graphics were not super but okay; there was a bit of draw-in and texture-shifting with my 360 version on my 1080p set.  If you like WWII games, then you will definitely like this game.  The story line in the game is nice because unlike call of duty or medal of honor, its told entirely on a personal/squad level with the larger battle just playing context for interpersonal struggles.  You get the overall story line from a series of recon opportunities that are scattered across the maps.

The game can be pretty visceral.  Women and children get killed and enemy bodies (and their various parts) can be seen flying around the battlefield during a fight.  Your teammates cannot die during a battle, although they can get knocked out.

I did have a few issues with the cover system.  You can be behind cover, but you will get killed unless you "dig-in" by hitting the LB button, even if no one is shooting at you directly.  It doesn't really matter which gun you use, either.  Except for the sniper rifle, that gun is a beast.  The game is fairly well-balanced through-out, although there are some points that are tough.  Especially if you are playing at veteran or above.  (The casual rating would be a "normal" setting on any other game).

I had a few complaints about the pathfinding AI.  Only certain specific obstacles are able to be vaulted over.  One fence (or a part of a fence) may be okay, but the one next to it may not be.  (The same thing can be said about cover).  I think that this can confuse your teammates AI and I had several times where the computer would take off running right out in front of machine-gun fire or through a house full of enemies, even though I told them to just take cover a few feet to their side.  You don't really need your teammates, so its not as big a problem as it would seem.  They are mostly there just to keep groups of enemies from shooting at you continously.

Overall, I thought the game was very good.  I'm going to try the multiplayer out once xbox live comes back up.  I don't know how long that will last though with only 6 maps.
