Joe Rogan has his say on it. Rogan unloaded on Fox during his podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience" -- saying, "She calls herself a woman but ... I tend to disagree."
He continues, "She used to be a man ... but now she has had, she's a transgender which is (the) official term that means you've gone through it, right? And she wants to be able to fight women in MMA. I say no f**king way."
"I say if you had a d*ck at one point in time, you also have all the bone structure that comes with having a d*ck. You have bigger hands, you have bigger shoulder joints. You're a f**king man. That's a man, OK?"
"I don't care if you don't have a d*ck any more," Rogan added ... "You're a man without a d*ck." http://www.tmz.com/2013/03/19/joe-rogan-transgender-mma-fighter-fallon-fox-ufc-mma

Don't think anyone's trying to convince you of anything, but rather just that we all have different opinions. As I said, my opinion is that The Following, as a work of pure fiction, is well written. I look at it as entertainment and nothing more. If I want realism I'll go watch cops. Obviously there's quite a few others in that same boat as the show marches on to season 2. Remember this is FOX we are talking about - they will drop a show in a heart beat if it's not performing up to their standards.
On the flip side of that coin, I know some people don't like the show.. no problem at all, but when you say it's "badly written" it doesn't mean it's a fact, it's just one person's opinion. One I'm fine with and completely respect. There were even some people out there who didn't like Firefly, if you can believe that.
I just interjected my reasoning why *I* personally like the show.
And FYI, According to Jim was one of my favorite sitcoms (second to the Bundy's!) so it just goes to show we all have different tastes.

OK, i'm almost ready to cut the cord from Time Warner. There are some shows i'll have to pay for i guess....ie: Walking Dead and others on AMC or A&E. I do watch alot of Food Network, Crime Network, FX. But i could do without them.
What i'm considering doing is Roku and Leaf HD Antenna. I like the looks of the Roku 3.
I have subscriptions through Amazon Prime, NHL Network, and MLB.TV. The only thing i'm concerned about is NFL and College Football in the Fall. I can get most of that from the HD Antenna. I can hit up my favorite sports pub down the street for ESPN specific games.
Now if i can find another way to do internet cheaper, i'd be thrilled. Living on Maui though leaves my options limited. Anyone doing the setup of Roku and OTA Antenna and can give it the thumbs up? I'd like the $140 Time Warner bill to disappear or atleast shrink to just internet service.
Jetflicks has Walking Dead, and probably just about any other show you watch that isn't carried by Hulu. Also just checked Hulu Plus - it does not carry American Idol. They have the latest 'clips' but now the full episodes. They are up to date on Vampire Diaries, Nikita, Cult, Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, Revolution, Once Upon a time, WWE Monday Night Raw, Friday Night Smackdown, The Tonight Show, and most of the other 'non cable' shows. Archived shows include every episode of all seasons of Xena, Firefly, Young Hercules, Lost, Star Trek Enterprise, Star Trek Voyager, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, Angel, and a host of others. There's actually quite a few shows that are no longer in production that I'm looking forward to catching up with on Hulu. Shows you've probably never even heard of!

from Destructoid: "Missions are short, lasting no more than a few minutes....by far the least memorable of all Gears campaigns in terms of story"
.....aaaaaand per-order cancelled, as I'm mostly a single player gamer.
As am I, but Gears has always been known for having decent bots to practice offline with in the mutliplayer modes. (Since Gears 2 anyway) With the singleplayer campaign you're going to beat it eventually anyway.. then what, trade it in or just let it collect dust? That's what makes bots so appealing to me, that no matter how many years go by, you get unlimited replay value even if MS decides to shut the servers down (not that they've ever done that..) you get a different experience each time as the game lives on forever. I'd still be playing Tribes Aerial Assault (PS2) bots if my BC PS3 didn't die.

I use MX Video Player Pro as my primary video player on Android. I've yet to see a video format it can't handle.
Do have to make a one-time payment for it though. You can check out the free version first to see if it's what you're looking for.

so,this is crap is it?
for some friggin' reason it starts next week on Sky 1 here...but to be honest, its probably better like that,i can't imagine i would like a 4 month break in the middle of the season, especially when you are trying your best to like the show, and then it disappears like that...it's bad enough when shows have just a few weeks break in the middle of seasons(Arrow!!)
Taking a break for a third of the year in the same season didn't exactly help people retain interest in the show. If you look at their FB page, a lot of people are saying the same thing. While I thought Revolution was pretty decent, honestly after all this time I've lost interest in it. I can understand taking these massive breaks in between seasons.. but not only in the first season where you have to build your fan base and establish the show. Wonder what kind of numbers they're going to pull off when it comes back on, can't imagine ratings going up after all this time.

It's no more unrealistic to me than say, Walking Dead and it's zombies or Battlestar Galactica and their Cylons (both of which I love) watching it simply for what it's intended, as entertainment.
I'm not sure why you keep insisting that fiction doesn't have to be well written to be good. That really just comes down to opinion. I think The Following is well written, hence.. one of the reasons why I turn in each week. (And probably part of why it was picked up for a second season so fast.)

The SyFy television network this week officially greenlit Helix, a new scripted series from Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Thursday's announcement confirms earlier reports of Moore's involvement, though the network has yet to name a release date, saying only that the show will debut "later this year."
SyFy described Helix (a working title) as "an intense thriller" about a team of scientists from the Center for Disease Control. After being sent to the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, they soon become entangled in a far more apocalyptic affair, facing "a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation." http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/8/4078404/syfy-confirms-helix-show-from-battlestar-galactica-creator-ron-mooreSounds like it could be interesting, especially since it's coming from Moore.

And a Judge sees common sense.. New York City’s ban on large-size soda drinks was blocked by a judge after industry groups including the American Beverage Association sued to stop the plan, calling it an unfair burden on small businesses.
The city’s Board of Health in September approved Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan to limit the size of sugary soft drinks sold in restaurants, movie theaters, stadiums and arenas to no more than 16 ounces (473 milliliters) a cup.
Groups representing beverage makers, restaurants and theaters filed a petition in New York State Supreme Court in October, the state’s trial level court, seeking to block enforcement of the measure, calling the ban “unprecedented interference” with consumer choice.
New York Supreme Court Justice Milton Tingling in Manhattan approved the group’s request, issuing a permanent injunction preventing the city from implementing the plan, which had been scheduled to begin March 12. The city may appeal the ruling.
The groups said the decision by the Board of Health to approve the ban was overreaching and ignored the rights of New Yorkers to make their own choices. The plan is “grossly unfair” to small businesses such as hot-dog vendors and pizzerias because convenience and grocery stores can still sell the larger sizes, lawyers for the groups told Tingling during a hearing in January. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-03-11/new-york-city-soda-size-limitations-barred-by-state-court-judge.html

While I enjoyed AOE 2 for multiplayer, it had some of the worst singleplayer AI I've seen in an RTS.
I remember playing skirmish maps and having the AI send formations of troops at me - except - they never stopped to engage until they reached their destination. My troops would hack and slash away at them and they'd never fight back. Instead of having an "auto attack" to defend themselves while moving, they would keep moving no matter who was attacking them.
Made skirmish a headache. Hopefully there are still a good number of people playing online to warrant another purchase.

Not at all.. just that I keep an open mind when watching these shows that more than anything, they are meant to entertain audiences. Sometimes you have to go a little farther because if you base everything as it would be in real life, it'd probably make for a pretty boring and slow show.
Even in the walking dead thread people bring up how it's "not realistic" (since when is a zombie realistic?!) of course it's not, it's fiction.
Since I don't mind it being "unrealistic" since it serves as entertainment, makes watching all the more enjoyable.

If you want realism, watch COPS!
The Following is a work of fiction, it's not supposed to be real. it's entertainment.
When you can accept the fact that it's a work of fiction meant to entertain us, then perhaps people will warm up to a it a bit more.
So far I'm absolutely loving the show. The last episode with the amount of Followers he had, Kevin Bacon slowly falling apart, really bringing me into it. It's no "24" (probably my all time favorite TV show) but out of all the stuff out there now.. it's getting harder to juggle Jupiter's Cock as being my favorite anymore.

Dennis Rodman wants Obama to call NK: It’s a real-life scenario so bizarre and outlandish it seems like it was dreamed up by the writers of “South Park” or “30 Rock”: Retired NBA player turned C-list reality star Dennis Rodman travels to North Korea, becomes the first American known to publicly meet with dictator Kim Jong Un, then returns to the U.S. proclaiming his admiration for the leader on ABC's “Meet the Press.”
Rodman sat down for an interview with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, a situation that would have been mind-bogglingly weird even if the “All-Star Celebrity Apprentice” cast member hadn’t just returned from one of the world’s most isolated and oppressive countries.
Oh, but he had. Throughout his conversation, Rodman brimmed with praise for the young leader – voted Sexiest Man Alive by the satirical website the Onion last year – calling Kim a “great guy” and delivering a message to President Obama on his behalf:
“He wants Obama to do one thing: Call him. He said, ‘If you can, Dennis, I don’t want [to] do war. I don’t want to do war.’ He said that to me.” http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-dennis-rodman-kim-jong-un-north-korea-20130304,0,756685.story

A deaf man in North Carolina, communicating to a friend via sign language, was stabbed multiple times after he was mistaken for flashing gang signs, police said.
Terrance Ervin Daniels, 45, was brutally attacked "in the upper body" with a kitchen knife on Jan. 9 in Burlington, N.C., while he and another deaf friend were signing to each other while walking down the street.
Suspect Robert Jarell Neal, 22, saw the men and "mistook the sign language for gang signs," Sgt. Mark Yancey of the Burlington Police Department told ABCNews.com.
"An altercation ensued and the victim was stabbed several times,"Yancey said. http://abcnews.go.com/US/deaf-man-stabbed-sign-langauge-mistaken-gang-signs/story?id=18213488Just.. wow.

I just picked one up with Nintendo Land and Super Mario U. Really though i've got it for Monster Hunter and Lego Undercover. Both out in a few weeks and look great. Bayonetta 2 looks good but I alos have a 6 year old and he is loving it, even just playing the game on the game controller is great for him.
So far I am impressed with it but it does need more exclusives from Nintendo. They always seem slow to get them out.
Nintendo exclusives can only go for so long to sell systems. Think inevitably Nintendo might go the way of Sega and get out of the hardware business, releasing their games on other systems instead.

Particularly the murder channel,
Fox News? Seriously, that's the thing that kills it. My wife watches American Idol, we like Arrow, she likes Vampire Diaries. Getting even these handful of shows reliably and legally is what keeps me doing this stupidly expensive dance...I wonder if I did the math if it'd be cheaper to buy them from some source (or if they are all available) than paying for TV? I dunno.... Pretty sure Hulu Plus has all of those. At least Arrow and Vampire Diaries as I watch both through Hulu. The newer episodes don't show up until the next morning though.. so if you're okay with waiting a couple hours compared to the broadcast, it's an $8 well spent per month. I cut my $100+ DirecTV bill about 2 years ago for a combination of Hulu Plus and Jetflicks. Pretty much has everything I need. I had NetFlix for a while too but all their TV shows were outdated (unlike Hulu that has the current episodes) and there weren't many newer movies being released on it. If there's a new release I have to see, I'll just pick it up at Redbox for a dollar and change.

Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Sequestration
|
on: March 02, 2013, 01:17:30 AM
|
Gary Johnson weighs in: To listen to the parade of Obama administration officials warning of civilization-ending consequences from the measly $85 billion in spending “cuts” sequestration will bring, one can only reach one of two conclusions: Either they are just making stuff up to make the cuts as painful as possible, or the federal budget is so out of control that a mere 2.4 percent reduction in projected spending is more than the system can handle.
Frankly, it is both. Absolutely, in their zeal to make Republicans pay the maximum political price for what is actually both parties’ fault, it is almost comical to watch one Cabinet official after another step up to the microphone and tell us that a 2.4 percent reduction (that isn’t really a reduction) will cause airplanes to fall out of the sky, our national defense to be disabled and our children to starve. That game is among the oldest in Washington. Cut the Park Service budget, and suddenly they can’t find the money to keep the Lincoln Memorial or Yellowstone open.
This sideshow is entertaining, but it misses what may be the most important lesson to be learned from this sequester debacle. While there is certainly a heavy dose of Chicken Little falling-sky rhetoric coming out of the bureaucracy, it is probably true that the rather indiscriminate sequester formula is presenting some challenges for some agencies.
How can that be? How many governors, state legislatures, city councils, small businesses and families have had to absorb 2 percent cuts in their budgets over the past five years or so, and have done so because they didn’t have the luxury of simply borrowing or printing more cash? What’s the problem? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/mar/1/sequestration-ignores-the-real-spending-problem/

Could we finally be on the way to a sequel after over a decade? Broken Lizard members Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme (Farva and Mac, respectively) recently did an interview with the site Guy Speed [Via Screen Crush] to promote an upcoming comedy special, and they revealed where they're finally at with the sequel:
“There will be a Super Troopers sequel. We put it off for a while and then came back to it. We wrote the script and handed it in to Fox and now we’re just negotiating the time and the place and hopefully shoot it some time this year. I have to start growing my mustache now.”
That's good news if you're hoping to see the Broken Lizard gang put on the state trooper uniforms once again. Assuming Fox does actually move forward with the project, that is. http://www.movies.com/movie-news/super-troopers-2/11401

Who gets to decide what's "decent" to criticize Sony about? You? Considering the last two Playstations had backwards compatibility, and Sony had gone on the record as saying BC would continue forever, it's almost something that was expected. They had years to figure out how to do BC right, and failed. Why wouldn't Microsoft offer BC with the next Xbox? Through their emulation on the 360, they had to basically hand code every game to be compatible with it.. that took a lot of time and effort. When MS thought that "nobody cared about BC" and got the back lash they did over it, they pumped out even more BC. Like Sony, MS has had years to figure out how to get BC right this time as well. While there's nothing official yet, I do remember reading a leaked document somewhere that MS felt 20% of their user base were interested in BC and it's something they'd need to serious look at. That would leave Sony as the only console this generation as not supporting the last. No support for CDs?
Finding it hard to justify paying $60+ on any PS3 game these days knowing it won't be compatible come next generation. As soon as MS announce the Nextbox being BC, I think I'll start investing more money in my 360 that's been collecting dust for months.
CD's? Come on. Sony has given lots of reasons to criticize. Pick something decent. And the new MS console is going to be backwards compatible? Since when? I haven't heard about that yet. You're talking like it's practically official. Got some insider information?

Considering I was playing PS2 games on my BC PS3 well past a year of it being out, no doubt I'd do the same with the PS4. Sadly, my 60GB PS3 died and when upgrading to the Slim, lost my PS2 support. Some of the games I played online when I had it.. couldn't believe that games like Tribes Aerial Assault still had people playing online.
And how many of us still load up Quake 3, Doom, or any other PC game 15 years old from time to time? It's a good thing your PC, no matter how new the hardware, still supports those legacy games.. just as Sony had claimed the Playstation brand would do 'forever'.
I'm old fashioned and still use CDs. If given the option of a physical CD or digital purchase, I go with the CD every time.. yes know we're a dying breed, but we're still out there!

No support for CDs? As technology advances, the storage mediums of today die and new ones are born. The upcoming PlayStation 4 will cease support of a format that Sony's home consoles always have: compact discs. http://www.psu.com/a018538/PS4-will-not-support-CDsThe PS3 started out having everything.. full backwards compatibility, 4 usb ports, memory card reader, ability to install Linux.. hell of a machine. Over time, Sony took more and more out of the system. While I'm sure very few of us have played a CD on the PS3, it's (as the other features removed) still a nice feature to have for those that did use it. Finding it hard to justify paying $60+ on any PS3 game these days knowing it won't be compatible come next generation. "PSone runs on the PlayStation 2 through emulation rather than actual hardware. PlayStation 3 will offer the same compatibility for PS2 software and the format will continue forever. Anyone remember that one? Sony had all these years to get BC right this time, and instead it's as if they didn't even try. Even if they offered a "premium" version that cost a little more with BC it'd be worth it.. for those of us who want it. For those who don't, you aren't "paying" for it. I'm half way tempted to move over to the 360 fully because of this, or just stick with PC gaming since games from 15 years ago still work today.. even Quake 1. It's nice to know that when you pay $50+ for a game that it'll still work come the next generation. Seems the only way to future proof your investment is with a PC. And yes, if you couldn't tell, I'm really disappointed over this!

It wouldn't be surprising.
Microsoft has been getting away with charging people for multiplayer for years - and it continues to grow into a giant money maker for them. No doubt Sony wants to cash in on that pie too. (And if that turns out to be true, I'll likely just go back to PC gaming where it's always been free.)
Actually the more I think about it, the more I wonder if handheld gaming (android, iOS) could be the future. It's already all digital and the games are instantly available to millions - many are free or cost less than $10 then give you completely free online multiplayer. I've been hooking my HTC Vivid up to my flat screen via HDMI, then using the MOGA game controller to play. Some of the games look so good (Modern Combat 4 in particular) you'd be hard pressed to think they weren't playing on my PS3 or 360.
