3321  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What kind of Jedi are you?! on: May 07, 2005, 09:34:14 PM
Interesting quiz.. I'm "the chosen one"  Cool

You are a Tainted Jedi.

You walk to the beat of your own drummer, and whichever side of the Force serves to your advantage is the side you will use. Many may not agree with your methods, but you still get the job done. You have the potential to be the greatest at whatever you do. You are the chosen one.

Your destiny is in your hands. It's up to you to choose the path you will walk.
3322  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Apartments with backyards? on: May 07, 2005, 04:04:26 AM
Interloper what area is that? Do you have your own private yard, or one that is shared with the neighbor?
Don't know what I'm going to do with my pot belly pig (ninja) if I can't find a place that will let me keep him.
Ham & bacon sandwhiches, anyone?
3323  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Apartments with backyards? on: May 06, 2005, 11:28:06 PM
Definitely worth considering, but are they as easy to rent? If so I imagine the price might be a little out of my range.
Even still thanks for the suggestion as I hadn't even thought about it until now.
3324  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Apartments with backyards? on: May 06, 2005, 11:13:26 PM
I'm sure they exist I just haven't seen any yet. I'm looking to move out on my own sometime next month and so far everything I've seen, while they look nice, none of them have any kind of yard at all. I'm planning on bringing my pot bellied pig with me (have had him since he was a baby) and the two battles ahead are getting an apartment with a backyard and getting one that will let me bring him. (I've seen some that say "All kinds of pets welcome." but as soon as you say "pig" the "all kinds of pets" has no meaning anymore.)
Looking in the daytona beach, florida area.

Any suggestions?
3325  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone picking up Stronghold 2? on: May 06, 2005, 05:21:37 PM
Stronghold 2 isn't worth 40 bucks.
There are usually 3 (THREE!) games going on online at any given time (even 7 year old starcraft has more than that), the AI is a joke especially when it comes to castle sieges (they seem to get confused really easily, especially with the ladders) and the game lags really bad when you get too many units on the screen during a castle siege, or even just a game where you might have yourself and 5 computer players. It's like being on a 28.8k modem with 5 players, except that you aren't even online. (My computer is a p4 3.4ghz 1gb ram)
The clipping is pretty bad as well.

The idea behind the game isn't that bad at all and the castle sieges are definitely fun. Not too many games let you post archers on the walls (Rome Total War is about the closest I can think of) but in Stronghold 2 you have a "Lord" which is another nice feature, you can move him into battle, keep him in your castle with castle guards protecting him, but if he is killed, you lose. Sometimes it's fun taking him to the front line (he's an extremely powerful unit) and have him fight alongside your troops until his health goes low, then send him back to the safety of the walls.
Reminds me a lot of another old game - Dominus. In that game you controlled only one character in a RTS view, your leader. The rest of the units were strictly AI-controlled, both allies and enemies. If your leader unit was killed, you lose.

Over all I'd give Stronghold 2 a 70%, just know that it's probably going to go down in price soon and when you pay $40 for a game and a week later it goes to $30 (or below) it feels like a waste of money.
Lets just hope Firefly continue to support the game through patches as it could still use a lot of improvements and fixes.
3326  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Does anyone remember Rival Realms? on: May 06, 2005, 05:14:54 PM
Thanks Sepiche, it was definitely Castles. Don't know how I came up with Rival Realms.. must have been thinking of another game back from the early 90s.
3327  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Does anyone remember Rival Realms? on: May 06, 2005, 02:49:43 AM
Yeah I remember that one too, maybe the one I was thinking of went by another name, it was at least from 92 or before because I've become an old man since then. Was definitely a DOS game.
Amazing how fast time goes by. Damn Tim McGraw was right with that "live like you were dying" song!
3328  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Does anyone remember Rival Realms? on: May 05, 2005, 10:06:36 PM
This must have been a 1992 or so game for the PC (DOS) called Rival Realms. It was somewhat of a castle simulator where you were the king of a castle and built up the walls, hired archers and swordsmen, and a lot of politics and diplomacy. Sometimes you might have someone kidnapped and the people come to you for help and then the captain of your guard says he'll go find her, but he needs 50 men. You can say "Fine, 50 it is then, but bring her back safely." or you might say "I can spare only half of that" or even "We need our men here at the castle, so you shall stay." and the choices you choose usually effect what happens later in the game.
So much politics (that actually came back to you and MEANT something) and decisions you had to make, and for such an old game, it was truly magnificent.

Don't know why I'm even posting about this.. maybe because I just picked up Stronghold 2 about 20 minutes ago and am hoping it might be something like Rival Realms but in all it's 3d glory.
Here's to hoping.
3329  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Pariah Impressions on: May 05, 2005, 06:45:07 AM
Thanks for the review, it's good to know there are bots in the game as the PC demo didn't have any.
Is it 8 players maximum for multiplayer?
3330  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / from the WTF files on: May 05, 2005, 06:42:40 AM
Hell I would have done it for 10 grand, it'd get me a decent new car or maybe even a harley davidson.
We can always legally change the name before he hits school and people start calling him Golden Palace dot com.
3331  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Armies of Exigo -- Worth $18? on: May 04, 2005, 11:30:45 PM
Personally I thought Armies of Exigo was a pretty decent game, $18 sounds like a decent price but anything more than that it probably woudn't be worth it. You can easily find Armies of Exigo on Ebay for well under $10 (even new).
The game plays and feels a lot like Warcraft, the graphics aren't up to date with most other RTS games but it still plays nicely.
The AI is pretty good at higher settings you can play skirmish against the computer with any amount of different teams.
I haven't tried online but the last time I went on there weren't many people playing it online (which was a whiel back) don't really play the game anymore because Warcraft 3 is still the king for me, but over all it really isn't that bad of a game at all.
By the way
3332  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How many players is Cossacks 2? on: May 04, 2005, 09:57:51 PM
Cossacks was a pretty decent game which allowed up to 7 players in singleplayer skirmish or multiplayer.
I've read some rumors a while back that Cossacks 2 is only 2 players though, and I have a hard time believing that.
Anyone pick up the game yet and can confirm it?
Can you ally with the AI at all, if it's only 2 players? (Let the AI control the economy for example, while you control the military side of the game.)

Looks like a great game.. I just can't imagine them limiting a RTS to only TWO players though!
3333  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / OMG! The Peter Pan Man! on: May 04, 2005, 08:58:35 PM
At the gym not only looking at a guy but also giving him a QUADRUPLE look? He must have looked pretty good!
Don't worry about the "cover up" about the woman in the tight sweat pants as I'm sure someone will help you find out who this "Peter Pan"dude is so you can go from there.
Good luck!
3334  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Resume Assistance on: May 04, 2005, 05:54:24 PM
My resume is full of so much BS even a herd of bulls would have to stop in their tracks to look at it.
Really, sometimes you have to exaggerate (not necessarily) the truth in order to impress them.

The easiest thing to do, which is also what I did, is to get a sample professional resume (just type free sample resumes on yahoo or google) and then change the name to yours, and your previous work places and experience to yours. I made a master copy of mine after finishing it (took about 20 minutes) and include it with every application I send out. Finally paid off as it looks like I've landed a new job in daytona beach come next month.

For the cover letter, you can also take the sample cover letter and change it to yours.
Like Knightshade said, make it sound like you really want to work there, and BOTH of you will benefit from you working there.
They are looking for someone who knows about games (or whatever they are looking for) and you know about games and are looking at a long-term career goal. The term "long-term" usually always catches an employer's attention. Even if you only plan on being there two months, it doesn't hurt to say you are a long-term career minded individual. That's how I landed my last job (which I've had enough of some days I feel like climbing a clock tower and.. doing something) I knew it was only a temporary semi law enforcement job until I can get back into real law enforcement. Now I'm just about back into it.

You could also compare your resume to the samples they have on the internet and modify it accordingly. Bullets always help as well.
The cover letter, IMO, is the easiest part of it all because all you have to do is copy a sample and add your own BS to finish the magic touch and MAKE them want to call you.
3335  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Talk about the most suspicious site EVER. on: May 04, 2005, 02:30:57 PM
You should check in-store since that would be your best chance, if they still carry any copies. It's been a good month since I've been to best buy I probably should have picked up a couple of the CE's when I was there but that would have been in the hundreds and I wasn't sure if I could get that money back considering how they seemed to be restocked and why would anyone pay so much on ebay.. oh well, live and learn.
3336  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Work starts at 8am on: May 04, 2005, 02:28:51 PM
Wow I wish I made $30.00 an hour! We really do make 3 bucks an hour transporting inmates around the state, on average spending 70 hours per week on the road. We'd probably be on the road more than 70 hours if DOT didn't regulate how many hours you can drive without getting some sleep time. Just got home after six days on the road and already going back again tommorow.

Thanks for all the suggestions I appreciate them. I went for an interview yesterday and am more than likely going to get the job so anyone who wants to make a whopping 3 dollars an hour in the Florida area, my job will soon be open! Don't all come rushing to the opportunity at once though as we don't want to cause a widespread panick.
Any takers? $3.00 ........... can you resist the power of the $?

Thanks although I already said I went down on my motorcycle, now they are sending someone to come pick me up so I can work the week (we work 5 days at a time) so oh well.. just brought my bike around back since it's supposed to be "in the shop" getting repaired..
3338  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone picking up Stronghold 2? on: April 28, 2005, 12:08:19 PM
So is that a yes to there being a skirmish mode?
Basicallly just something that I can play offline, like 2vs2, but instead of human players, it'd be myself and 3 computer players. Stronghold Crusader had such a feature, but the original Stronghold didn't. Hard to justify $40 for a game when it doesn't even have a skirmish, and unfortunately, some RTS games don't have one. (I read that the newest Settlers doesn't even have one.)
3339  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Work starts at 8am on: April 28, 2005, 11:33:00 AM
They'd want to see a police report or something for that, good idea though because I called in saying I went down on my motorcycle a county above me and can't take it any further.
Kind of shocked I'm doing this but to be honest I have been wanting to leave this job ever since it started (we make roughly $3.00 an hour but work 70 hours a week) had an interview on tuesday and another one tommorow. Hopefully I get into the job I want before these guys either fire me or I just say the hell with this company I'm out of here! (Before securing a new job.)

It says it's on backorder. I don't see anything wrong with it though. I got 60 claritons allergy relief for $9.99 on Ebay, which included shipping. Sounded suspcious but hey.. a box by itself with 10 pills is $10 at walgreens. Got it in about 2 weeks and if you dont get your paypal purchase within 30 days, like you said, paypal has buyer protection. You file a claim before 30 days, and if they don't send it to you then you get refunded whatever you paid. I dont think I'd ever buy on Ebay without paypal..
And on a side note, $80 doesn't seem like a "good deal" to me at all. Isn't that the suggested retail? I saw a couple boxes of WOW collector's edition at best buy the last time I went at normal retail price, while at the same time people are selling them for insane prices on Ebay.
3343  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Empire Earth II, Anyone?? on: April 28, 2005, 02:24:52 AM
I'm with Chaplin on this one, the demo felt EXACTLY like the original. Got boring real fast for me.
The original was a great game, so the sequel can't be any worse, but as far as I can tell, it's not much better either. It's just more of the same.
I'm waiting for Age of Empires III, too. Now that's a TRUE step above the last game in the series.
3344  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Serenity Trailer - HOLY CRAP!!!! on: April 27, 2005, 04:56:29 PM
I agree, definitely worth $35. Since they only created and aired one season, you get every episode with your puchase (including the 2 or 3 that weren't aired).
It's the only tv series that I've watched every episode from start to finish (from the dvd set) and can actually say I enjoyed the series.

My ears are feeling strange right now. I didn't know what earwigs were until I just looked them up on yahoo and wow, I used to catch those things as a kid and feed them to my ant colonies. I'm in Florida and they're definitely out here. Seen them in the house as well, though not lately.

Why do they call them earwigs anyway?
3346  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone picking up Stronghold 2? on: April 25, 2005, 08:42:56 PM

I'm thinking of picking this one up at EB but just want to make sure it has a skirmish mode (unlike the original Stronghold) since some RTS games these days are lacking them.
3347  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360: So ya want backwards compatability? It'll cost you on: April 25, 2005, 04:51:59 AM
I just want a videogame system that plays videogames.

Sort of like a cell phone, I just want to make a call, not control the world. I've got other stuff that can do the rest.

There are far too many people who think the "all-in-one" is better, including me.
I don't have a dvd player and really enjoy being able to play dvds on my ps2.

My cell phone is an n-gage and being on the road so much, I admit it's really great having a system that you can use as a phone, go on the internet, play games online, and among other things, use as an alarm clock, video player, calculator, etc.
I have to admit I use my mobile internet/email and the alarm clock at the hotel rooms I stay at all the time.

Sure you can get other things to do these things but why have all the clutter? Why bring an alarm clock, a calculator, a gameboy/psp (which you can't play online on the road anyway) and say my laptop for online access.. when the N-gage can do it all in ONE little piece? Saves a lot of money not to mention space.

I'm not going to have an xbox for the original xbox games, xbox 2 for the newer games, a dvd player, all hooked up to my tv at once. I just want ONE system that can do it all.

Backwards compatiblity was one of the main reasons why I sold my xbox and got a ps2 (since sony confirmed backwards compatiblity long ago) so whenever I pay $40 or $50 for a game, I know I can still play it come next generation.
I plan on selling my ps2 (for whatever it's worth) as soon as the p3 comes out and put that $ towards it.

On the subject of backwards compatiblity, I think it sucks we have to pay $100 extra for it but with the extra features it might be worth it. Since I dont have an xbox anymore I guess it doesn't really matter much though.
I just hope microsoft doesn't make the same mistake again and took precautions this time around for the next generation of xbox after xbox 360. Classics like halo are games worth holding on to next generation and it's always a plus if you can still play that old game on the new system.

3349  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Who sings the song "Sarah"? on: April 19, 2005, 12:16:38 AM
Thanks for the suggestions, it was definitely Starship "Sara" funny I haven't even heard of that band before so I would have never guessed it.

Crazy but a good idea Knightshade, women seem to eat that stuff up even if it seems worthless to us men.
3350  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Who sings the song "Sarah"? on: April 18, 2005, 06:49:03 PM
I've heard the song before and heard it again today but they didn't say who it was. Actually I'm blank right now other than I can hear the "Sarah" "Saraahhhh" it's maybe a ballad, or a really light rock song, sounds like it might be from the 80s. I tried typing "Sarah lyrics" on yahoo search but ended up with a bunch of nothing including band names with Sarah.

Anyone have any idea what song this might be? Wish I could remember some of the lyrics but can only think that how his voice sounds..
3351  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oh Noes!! Pariah Demo! on: April 17, 2005, 03:56:17 PM
No bots unfortunately. Looks like it's strictly multiplayer only. The graphics look great and there are a couple of vehicles in the game, but to be honest, I don't see it as much of a step above unreal tournmanet 2004 and even in that demo, you could practice offline with bots. Not so in Pariah. It seems to have that "been there done that" type of feel that most FPS's have.
Hopefully by the final version they'll have enabled bots.

3353  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just cant justify buying a PSP. on: April 12, 2005, 06:10:30 AM
I remember the Turbo Grafx Express used to have everything by NEC back then.
Keith Courage anyone?

One small note about surfing the internet on the N-gage, it's true the built-in browser sucks but I bought Opera to replace it and can surf just about any site out there on my N-gage. (Opera works on almost all cell phones if you have internet access with it.)
There's no doubt it's not fast like broadband at home, but being on the road so much with work it's great being able to check my email and stay up to date with what's going on without having to try to find a computer with internet access.

Seems to me like the PSP is supposed to be an "on the go" gaming system so what point is WiFi if you need a nearby modem to connect online? Taking that on a road trip and hoping to hook up with other online players seems like it's a far way off.
I know the PSP is better than N-gage, especially with graphics, but the only mobile gaming device that you can surf the net and play games online without worrying where they are is simply the N-gage.
I do indeed hope Nokia is sending me a check!
3354  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just cant justify buying a PSP. on: April 11, 2005, 10:08:46 PM
A TV would be a good idea if anything. They can make tvs as small as on watches these days.

I can't justify $250 for the PSP simply because I already have a laptop, a ps2, and a nokia n-gage which actually WORKS online! Not only with online gaming over the world, but also with browsing the internet and checking your email.
Granted the graphics are comparable to an atari 2600 compared to the PSP, it's still a good on the go gaming system (not to mention cell phone) that you can play multiplayer no problem with.

If they offer some kind of real online option for the PSP, not these "hot spots" I'm hearing about, and the price drops to about $150 then I'll pick one up.

The ps2 cds and dvds I agree is a fantasy. A normal cd is probably as big as the PSP alone.
3355  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Overcoming Jealousy.. on: April 11, 2005, 10:03:07 PM
I'm thinking the same way starshifter. It's been two years since my seperation and even at that time, I didn't trust women. It's only gotten worse over time.
Sometimes I think maybe it's better just to enjoy the single life and not have to worry 24/7 what your woman is up to when you aren't around. A friend of mine and his girl broke up recently because she was "just talking" to other men online in the chat rooms and it turned out she ended up meeting one of them and behold it "just happened". Broke my friend's heart and he had to fight to get the engagement ring back from her.

Thanks for the advice from everyone though, I'm still not sure if I'll be seeing this one again or not it feels so much more peaceful when you are alone and don't have to worry about a woman and the games she plays.
3356  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What do ants talk about? on: April 11, 2005, 09:55:38 PM
Thanks for that link dreamshadow, I'm even more fascinated with ants after reading all of that.
Unfortunatley it didn't say much under communication, at least not what's going on when ants are "talking".
I've rescued a few queen ants from our pool and the queens will dry off with the other queens while touching antennas which could go on for minutes of this "talking".. wonder what they hell they're talking/doing! I guess according to freezer they're talking about other females and saying they got the best mate and had the best sex while up in the air..
I'm going to be wondering about this for a long time.
3357  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Do they make mini stereo headphones? on: April 11, 2005, 09:52:57 PM
The kind that you can barely even see when you are wearing? I have a huge set of stereo headphones and where I work I usually have to wear them and listen to the ocean in order to sleep but I can't lay on my side or anything with them because they are so big.
The kind of headphones I'm looking for look like 2 black balls (yeah) that just fit in your ears and are barely visible.
Only problem is.. do they make such stereo-quality headphones? Not mono..? I woudn't have a clue where to look or what they might even be called. Searching for "stereo headphones" only turns up the big ones.
3358  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Overcoming Jealousy.. on: April 11, 2005, 05:09:31 AM
I've been seeing someone new lately after my last breakup (which I ended because I could never trust her) and tonight we were at a party and she was talking to some other guys and I have to say I felt like the incredible hulk in me is just dying to get out so I can rampage the place and destroy everything in site!
I seem to get really angry, like I have to control myself before I do something I'll regret and at the same time play it cool like I dont care if she's hugging this guy who she used to know and introducing me to some guys she knows.
I said I dont think this is working out we talked a bit and I said she's just too flirty with other men and it's disrespectful to me. She promised she would "tone it down" but I just left without her.

I realize this is a problem because it seems like I just can't trust women. This isn't the first, second, or even 8th time something like this has happened.
I'm a believer that there's no such thing as "Just friends" between men and women because from my own point of view, if you're friends with even a decent looking woman, you can't help but be attracted to her. Hang out with her and let her tell you her BF problems and play it along until you can move in.
Never done that myself but that's what I see these other guys as.

Anyway long post and I'm tired and ready to crash. Anyone have any ideas on overcoming jealousy and just being "cool" about everything? I think maybe tonight maybe I was wrong but I wasn't there flirting with other women in her presence and as such I want the same respect in return.
Why do so many women have boy "friends" on the side of the one they are seeing?
3359  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What do ants talk about? on: April 10, 2005, 09:08:20 PM
I'm actually being serious, have you ever seen a line of ants going back and forth and touching antennas? Sometimes you'll see two idle ants looking like they are just hanging out and their antennas are touching eachother.
I don't kill ants (unless bitten) because I'm just fascinated with them too much. For being so tiny they have the intelligence to find food, alert the others, form coordinated paths to and from where they're going, build nests and tunnels underground and sense fear. I'll even bring them food outside and within just a couple of minutes the one scout ant who found it has alerted the others and theirs tons of them all over it bringing little pieces back to feed their colony.
Just seeing two ants "talking" to eachother today on our patio I'm wondering what exactly they're doing. If it's two ants of a different species/colony they somehow know that and it's war. Yet with friendlies, they know and talk..
Just interesting in any case.
3360  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What causes those "loops" under the eyes? on: April 10, 2005, 09:04:44 PM
I'm 24 and am already beginning to see them under my eyes, they're especially visible right when I wake up.
I'm thinking it might be my job, working on the road transporting inmates. We work 15 hours on 12 hours off, sleeping habits are horrible becuase sometimes you sleep from 4pm-10am.. then the next day you might sleep from 3am-9am. It always changes and you're always on the road (no going home after work).

I really don't know what it is though and while I don't consider myself young anymore, I just don't like having these loops under my eyes! It's not *bad* but it's noticable.
Anyone else have any experience with them or what causes them? Anyway to make them go away?
