Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays!

I agree with the second post. Your job can have a major effect on the overall health of your life.

Where I work we haven't had a pay raise in seven years, employees seem to mean nothing, turnover rate is at about 30%, and politics is always the top agenda.

A buddy of mine was recently fired, found a new job, and said it feels like a major weight was lifted off his shoulders. He feels free now, with a lot less stress in life. He said he never realized how much that job brought him down until he was no longer there.

I was held over Easter sunday (mandatory over-time) stayed as I had to, then on Monday when I had to take my mother to cancer treatment, they said I was being held over again. Explained to the OIC that I could always get another job, but not another mother, and I'd say over-time any day of the week except monday as I had to put my family first.
I was told "Facility needs' needed to come first. So I refused and got a written reprimand for it. Nevermind the fact that I already worked my 8 hour shift.

You definitely aren't alone in your job. I'm looking at tax season to get out of here so I have moving money from the refund. Thinking of moving to Arizona or Texas.

So Ron, yeahhh.. if you could go ahead and come in on Saturday that'd be greeat.. m'kay?

My only computer is a windows 7 starter netbook so I needed something light. Bitdefender Free fit that profile nicely. Really no options to choose from as it's all automated, but that's something I like. Antivirus you install and forget about, it works automatically in the background.
Haven't noticed the constant scanning problem though.

4  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Jack is back - 24 returning on: July 22, 2014, 11:59:59 AM
24 was always one of my favorite shows and it was sad to see it go after so many seasons.
This last season was as good as I remember it being.

Was almost kind of sad seeing the President say in a year he won't remember his daughter having died such a horrible death. Actually, that he won't even remember he had a daughter at all.

Big thumbs up to the entire season and I hope they give us at least another one.

Should it stay or should it go? When it comes to Microsoft’s Xbox business, that recurring question continues to haunt Microsoft executives. Investors have been making the case for breaking off the company’s Xbox division for some time now, and Xbox gamers continue to become enraged whenever the idea is mentioned. Now, Microsoft co-founder and former CEO Bill Gates has weighed in.

Speaking with Fox Business Anchor Liz Claman, Gates said that he would definitely support spinning Microsoft’s Xbox business into a separate company in the event that new CEO Satya Nadella made the decision to do so. “I’m absolutely for it,” he said.

If Xbox is even slightly profitable for Microsoft, what would be the sense of spinning it off into it's own company?
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [TV] Killjoys on: May 01, 2014, 09:23:21 AM
Continuing a major expansion of its scripted primetime programming schedule, Syfy today announced a new 10-episode space adventure drama series, Killjoys, which will premiere in 2015.

From the producers of Orphan Black (Temple Street Productions) and the creator of Lost Girl (Michelle Lovretta), Killjoys follows a fun-loving, hard living trio of interplanetary bounty hunters sworn to remain impartial as they chase deadly warrants throughout the Quad, a distant system on the brink of a bloody, multiplanetary class war.

SyFy has been doing some pretty decent TV shows lately. If only their original movies had the same budgets to work with.

10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: When do you buy games? on: May 01, 2014, 08:24:08 AM
As soon as there's a price cut or special running. I can't remember the last time I played full price for a game.

I picked up Battlefield 4 (PS3) a couple months ago on Amazon for $19.99 when they were running a special on it.

Picked up WWE2K14 for $29.99 as soon as it got it's price cut.

I have so many games to catch up on I don't see too many reasons to pay $60+ for a game when I can just wait a few weeks/months for the inevitable price drop, even if it's just temporarily.

What, the other Almost Human thread wasn't good enough?

I started out enjoying Almost Human quite a bit, but after a few episodes started losing interest. I think I'm about 5 episodes behind now and haven't felt like catching up like I would with Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.

Still disappointed to see it getting cancelled, but Fox is famous for that.
13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The 100 on: April 22, 2014, 12:40:27 PM
I'm loving the show so far. I wasn't expecting much out of it and didn't plan on watching past the pilot episode, so maybe coming in with such low expectations helped with that.

Of course there aren't many "teenagers" on CW's shows. Bellmany's teenager sister is really 27 or 28 in real life. He looks like he's in his 20s as well.
And the reference to Star Crossed. The main actor in Star Crossed (Roman?) is 31 I believe. I just find it funny to see 30 year olds playing as high school students. CW is famous for that.

Aside from the obvious age gap between characters and reality, I'm throwing The 100 in my "Top 3" current TV shows. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of the grounders.
Reminds me a bit of Terra Nova, another good show, cancelled before we could find out what really happened. You can't end a show like Terra Nova the way they did, leaving people hanging for more and then cancel.
Hopefully the same doesn't happen with The 100.

15  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Great Cable Purge of 2014 on: April 19, 2014, 01:41:42 PM
I've been with Hulu Plus about a year and a half now and couldn't imagine not having it. They have most of the current TV shows (Arrow, The 100, The Following, Vampire Diaries, Believe, Late Night, WWE Monday Raw and Friday Night Smackdown, etc.) but also a huge back catalog of older TV shows such as Lost and The Tudors.

Granted all those older TV shows may be available to free users as well, being able to watch most of my favorite TV shows the next day versus having to wait a year for them to hit Netflix made me choose Hulu Plus over Netflix. (I was with Netflix until they lost the Starz contract.)

Hulu Plus has some movies also, but nothing in the terms that Netflix carries.  Hulu is good for TV, Netflix is good for movies.
Even if you have both of them it's still a hell of a lot cheaper than DirecTV. I bailed on DirecTV over 2 years ago and haven't looked back.
16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Civilization: Beyond Earth - Finally an Alpha Centauri successor? on: April 13, 2014, 11:38:57 PM
I actually just started playing Alpha Centauri again. Forgot how much fun it was, even for a 15 year old game.

I had a full size random map with all factions on the hardest difficulty, ended up allying myself with Sister Miriam of the Believers and together we took out the Hive and the Peacekeepers, both of us having probably the largest military of all factions. We were combining our forces against Colonel Santiago, which of course meant Sister Miriam was using my bases for her troops to launch attacks.. and out of nowhere, Sister Miriam launched a surprise attack on me while all her troops were inside my bases.
I managed to beat the Spartan Federation back that she surrendered to me and ended up helping fight back the Believers. We slowly worked Miriam's forces back to her own bases and began launching attacks on her home turf.
Then Morgan decides he wants to attack me from the South, while I'm still trying to work on Miriam to the West. Luckily Colonel Santiago was building a considerable military force and was able to help - and just as we began working our way into Miriam's territory.. the game locked up.
Tried restarting from where I left off, and it locked up again.

Over 2 hours just to have it lockup! Maybe a Windows 8.1 issue, not sure.. but if Civilization Beyond Earth is anything like Alpha Centauri was, I plan on it being a day 1 purchase.

18  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [PS4/PC] H1Z1 post-apocalyptic MMO on: April 11, 2014, 03:30:51 AM
Sony Online Entertainment's post-apocalyptic massively multiplayer online game, H1Z1, is heading to PC first and PlayStation 4 later, SOE president John Smedley said on the latest Game Talk Live episode, and will be available in 4-6 weeks via Steam Early Access for $20.

H1Z1, where players to take on the role of an apocalypse survivor in a world swarming with zombies, was first revealed earlier today when details of the podcast were teased. The game will be a free-to-play title with microtransactions but it won't be pay-to-win and nor will it require a subscription.

"The H1Z1 virus devastated mankind and left nothing but death and destruction in its wake and a world nearly empty of human life where the remnants of humanity are in a fight against extinction against those infected with the virus," Smedley revealed. "It's been 15 years since H1Z1 was first encountered and what's left of the world before it is overrun with the Infected. Humanity has been reduced to hiding in the shadows, searching desperately for food and water and anything that can help to survive even for another day. But the Infected aren't the only dangers in the world. Everyday life in the Apocalypse means dealing with all kinds of wild animals and the brutality of other survivors, as well as finding your next meal and a safe place to sleep."

Been holding off getting a PS4 so far, but between this and Planetside 2 I may finally have to give in.
19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: April 05, 2014, 10:23:18 PM
Another developer claiming the PS4 is more powerful.

It is "physically impossible" for the Xbox One's graphical performance to catch up to what the PS4 is capable of, Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray has stated in an effort to dismiss inaccurate reports attributed to Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning.

A report on Xbox Achievements was titled, "Performance Gap Between Xbox One And PS4 Will Disappear, Says Oddworld Creator," but this is said to be inaccurate.

"Actually that is NOT what he said," Gilray told Worlds Factory. "I spoke to Lorne afterwards and what he meant when speaking to that guy was that budgets, schedules and perceivable differences would narrow, NOT that the Xbox One performance is improving to align with PS4, that is just physically impossible. The PS4 has MORE COMPUTE units, and faster memory and a whole bunch of things, that would make that physically impossible to happen."
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: March 29, 2014, 05:49:22 PM
Sony thinking about adding backwards compatibility after all?

Dying to play classic games like Viewtiful Joe or Tekken 3 on your PS4? Well, you might just be in luck. A recent rumor has indicated that Sony is working on PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility for the PS4 — sidestepping the need for game streaming completely. Even better, a number of “select titles” are supposedly running natively at 1080p.

Ahsan Rasheed, a noted insider in the gaming industry, made a number of tweets today claiming that Sony plans to support PS1 and PS2 titles on its latest console. While it’s no surprise that Sony is working on bringing its back catalog to the PS4, it was largely assumed that the PlayStation Now game streaming service would fill that role. Instead, we might have access to the entirety of the PS1 and PS2 library running on the PS4′s hardware itself. It’s easy to imagine Sony selling emulated classic titles on PSN, but this could also mean that PS1 and PS2 game discs could be played seamlessly.

More importantly, Rasheed claims that some titles will even be capable of rendering natively at 1080p. While the details like textures and shaders would likely be left untouched, the game itself could be made to run at resolutions never possible with the original hardware. For example, the Dolphin emulator can take the classic 480p GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and make it render beautifully at 1080p. If Sony is working that same kind of engineering magic on its emulator for the PS4, we can expect classic games to look better than they’ve ever looked before.

Yes Starz renewed Black Sails for a second season.

I was over all impressed by Season 1, it obviously had a decent budget, along with politics and battles to keep you interested. While it will never replace Spartacus, it's probably the next best show from Starz.

28  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: AT&T Wireless New Mobile Share Plan - Really? on: March 27, 2014, 09:18:19 PM
I'm tempted to switch my individual line to the 2GB plan, but being 6 months away from my full discount upgrade, not sure if I want to jump in yet.

My individual line is $79.99 a month ($39.99 450 mins, $30 3GB, $10 unlimited text) comes to about $87 per month after taxes. (Discount applied)

The mobile share for 2GB would be $65 per month, and it says my discount would still apply.

I only use about 100 minutes a month, but a lot of data. So I'd be losing 1GB of data, and gaining unlimited minutes, something I'll never need. Feels like paying for something I don't use. With AT&T admitting the cost to transmit 1MB of data over LTE going down by 93%, it sure hasn't reflected on their data prices.

That T-Mobile $30 plan also sounds tempting, but T-Mobile coverage was poor last time I used them, to the point of being in areas with zero service ,not even roaming.

Check Ebay as well.

On Best Buy under the deals section there's a "Clearance and Open Box" category, put in your zip code and look up the TV's. Sometimes you'll find a good deal on an open box TV.

I just picked up a refurbished 29" Phillips Smart TV for $175 shipped through Ebay. (Listing is still up if you search for ezkliquidators) Came in yesterday so haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but so far so good. First time wit a smart TV. That's what I like about The Following - it has a bit of that 24 feel, you're not quite sure what's going to happen next. While Season 1 was IMO much more unpredictable than Season 2, I'm still enjoying the show.

35  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Uganda president set to sign anti-gay bill into law on: February 25, 2014, 08:22:24 PM
Signed into law.

A Ugandan newspaper listed 200 people it accused of being gay, a day after the president called homosexuals 'mercenaries' and signing one of the world's toughest anti-gay laws.

"Exposed!" the headline of the Red Pepper tabloid read, beneath photographs of Ugandans it said were gay, as well as reporting on lurid stories of alleged homosexual actions.

"Uganda's 200 top homos named," the daily newspaper added, which listed both those who have openly declared their sexuality as well as those who had not, including gay rights activists, priests and music stars.

"In salutation to the new law, today we unleash Uganda's top homos and their sympathisers," the newspaper added.

In 2011, prominent Ugandan gay rights campaigner David Kato was bludgeoned to death at his home after a different newspaper splashed photos, names and addresses of gays in Uganda on its front page along with a yellow banner reading "Hang Them".

On Monday, President Yoweri Museveni signed a bill into law which holds that repeat homosexuals should be jailed for life, outlaws the promotion of homosexuality and requires people to denounce gays.

Museveni said he could not understand how one could "fail to be attracted to all these beautiful women and be attracted to a man" instead and described in graphic details his particular revulsion to oral sex.

"There is something really wrong with you," Museveni, a devout evangelical Christian who has been in power nearly three decades, said of gay men.

Besides I was referring to this particular point of the law:

Looks like Monday Night Raw won't be airing in Uganda anytime soon.

37  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Uganda president set to sign anti-gay bill into law on: February 24, 2014, 10:46:33 AM
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni will sign into law Monday a controversial bill that will see homosexuals jailed for life, despite international pressure, a government spokesman said.

The Ugandan anti-gay bill cruised through parliament in December after its architects agreed to drop an extremely controversial death penalty clause, although the bill still says that repeat homosexuals should be jailed for life, outlaws the promotion of homosexuality and requires people to denounce gays.

"The president will sign the anti-homosexuality bill today," presidential spokesman Tamale Mirundi told AFP.

Museveni, a key African ally of the United States and the European Union, has already been under fire from key Western donors over alleged rampant corruption, and had been under pressure from diplomats and rights groups to block the legislation.

"The president cannot be pushed by the international lobby groups... he has made it clear whatever he does will be in the interests of Uganda and not foreign interests," Mirundi said.

"Uganda is a sovereign state and the decisions taken must be respected."

"This is the moment the world has been waiting for," he told AFP.

Museveni, a devout evangelical Christian, earlier this month also signed into law anti-pornography and dress code legislation which outlaws "provocative" clothing, bans scantily-clad performers from Ugandan television and closely monitors what individuals watch on the Internet.

Is February anti-tolerance month or something?

Hepcat better not pack your speedos and short shorts on your next trip to Uganda.
38  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Arizona passes controversial anti-gay bill on: February 23, 2014, 12:24:28 AM
Arizona's Legislature has passed a controversial bill that would allow business owners, as long as they assert their religious beliefs, to deny service to gay and lesbian customers.

The bill, which the state House of Representatives passed by a 33-27 vote Thursday, now goes to Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican and onetime small business owner who vetoed similar legislation last year but has expressed the right of business owners to deny service.

"I think anybody that owns a business can choose who they work with or who they don't work with," Brewer told CNN in Washington on Friday. "But I don't know that it needs to be statutory. In my life and in my businesses, if I don't want to do business or if I don't want to deal with a particular company or person or whatever, I'm not interested. That's America. That's freedom."

Would Governor Seagal overturn it if it's signed?

Better video games or hunger strike!

Anders Breivik — who had no problem admitting he snuffed the lives of 77 people during a bombing and shooting rampage — is a big fat whiner.

He says his prison life is "hell" and he wants new video games. If he doesn't get them, he threatened to go on a hunger strike.

The 35-year-old whined in a letter to prison authorities that conditions in prison are "torture" and he needs a PS3, a softer chair, an increase in his weekly allowance and video games meant for adults instead of 3-year-olds

"Other inmates have access to adult games while I only have the right to play less interesting kids game," he wrote in November. "One example is 'Rayman Revolution,' a game aimed at 3-year-olds," he said.

He also demanded that his weekly allowance of $49 be doubled.
